Carl "Bud" Wilson
York resident, 86
Carl M. "Bud" Wilson, 86, of York, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000 in Fairmont.
He was born July 11, 1914 at Hordville to Nelson and Julia (Karloff) Wilson. He was a 1933 graduate of Polk High School and farmed west of Benedict most of his working years, except for a short time in the '40s when he lived in California. He moved to York in the early '60s and was a salesman for Hydrotex Farm Lubricants. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Davison) Wilson of York; daughter, Rita (LeRoy H. "Pete") Friesen of Hampton; step-daughters, Kathryn (Chuck) Abels and Lois (Gerald) Pesek, both of Omaha; step-sons, Kenneth (Vera) Renquist and Kermit (Cindy) Renquist, both of York; seven grandchildren and their families; sister-in-law, Doris Wilson of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Dorothy Renquist Wilson, second wife Dorothy Peterson Wilson, son Gary Wilson and brother Woodrow Wilson.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Metz Chapel in York with the Rev. Dick Woolard officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery west of Benedict. Memorials in care of the family. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday at Metz Mortuary in York, which is in charge of arrangements.
Betty Monson
Sutton resident, 66
Betty June Monson, 66, of Sutton died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at the Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
She was born June 20, 1934, near York to Burdette and Wave (Hager) Jones. She attended schools in Fairmont, McCool, York and Sutton, graduating from the Sutton High School in 1951. She began working at the Grafton Bank in Grafton after graduating from high school.
On July 20, 1953, she was married to Lemoine "Hap" Alfred Monson in Clay Center. They made their home on a farm south of Sutton, then moved to a farm south of Saronville where they lived for 33 years. Her husband died Nov. 3, 1988.
She worked as the Village Clerk for Saronville for a number of years. She prepared taxes for Bottorf and Maser Law Firm in Sutton. For the last 24 years, she has worked for the City State Bank in Sutton.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the Sutton American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary of Harvard, and the Women's Bowling Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Donita (Steve) Furman of Clay Center and Deb (Doug) Rainforth of Doniphan; son, Doug (Billie) Monson of York; three sisters, Melba Minich, Barbara (Bobbie) Bolte, both of York, and Velda Alberts of Saronville; two brothers, Rick Jones of Sutton and Gary Jones of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter; Denise; and a son, Dennis.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Sutton with the Rev. Elizabeth Hanley officiating. Burial will be in the Saron Lutheran Cemetery near Saronville. Memorials may be given to the family. Kohler Mortuary in Sutton is in charge of arrangements.
Roger Kircher
Grand Island resident, 76
Roger A. Kircher, 76, of Grand Island died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at his home.
He was born June 20, 1924, at Indianola to Albert and Ola (Elms) Kircher. He grew up and attended school at Red Willow, graduating in 1942.
He entered the U.S. Army in December of 1943 and served in the European Theater of Operations and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Marcella Yager on June 20, 1944.
He managed the Uerling Grain Elevator in Indianola and went on to manage others in Nebraska, as well as in Missouri and Minnesota. He and his wife retired to Grand Island in 1985.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association, American Legion and VFW. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the B.P.O. Elks.
Survivors include two sons, Rex Kircher of York and Gary Kircher of Endicott, N.Y.; three daughters, Gloria Stett of McCool, Marcia Dubord of Friend, and Julie Cannafax of Kansas City, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gayle and Ken Kircher, both of Indianola; and one sister, Roberta Watkins of McCook.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella; one son, Thomas; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Following services, Kircher's body will be cremated with burial of the ashes at a later date in the Indianola Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Oscar Woodward
York resident, 85
Oscar C. Woodward, 85, a longtime York resident, died late Sunday afternoon, Nov. 12, 2000 at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont.
Oscar was born on March 25, 1915 at Utica to Homer A. and Elizabeth A. (White) Woodward and attended school at Thayer. He worked at the Fairmont Creamery in York prior to starting his own business, Oscar's Refrigeration, which he operated in York for many years. Oscar was united in marriage to Nettie E. Kliewer on March 16, 1948 in Kansas. Mrs. Woodward passed away on June 25, 1983.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon (and her husband, Bob) Wiemer of Lincoln; one daughter-in-law, Connie Woodward of Hastings; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Nettie E. (Kliewer) Woodward in 1983), one son (Kenneth Dale Woodward in 1994), one brother (Bartel), and two sisters (Amanda and Lillian).
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Lewis Funeral Chapel in York with Pastor David D. Welch officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery at York. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Lewis Funeral Chapel in York.
Memorials may be made in care of the family. Lewis Funeral Chapel of York is in charge of arrangements.
Don Swartz
Arkansas resident, 72
Don Swartz, 72, formerly of Aurora, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at his home in Bella Vista, Ark.
He was born on a farm on June 8, 1928, to William J. and Rose M. (Riek) Swartz. He attended a country elementary school and graduated from Lushton High School. He attended Milford Community College and specialized in Auto Body Work for 45 years, a trade he followed until retirement in 1990. He worked for Vetter Bros. Dodge for 35 years and 10 years in management for Stan Allen Motors Buick, Chevrolet and Pontiac in Aurora.
He was married to Marie Nuss on Dec. 10, 1954, in Aurora. The couple lived in Aurora. In 1977 they moved to Central City and to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1994.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He joined the Presbyterian Church in Bella Vista.
Survivors include his wife Marie of Bella Vista, Ark.; two daughters, Donna (Michael) Baur of Waverly and Beverly (Jamison) Conkling of Hutchinson, Kan.; one sister, Darlene (Don) Miltner of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Carol Swartz of Grand Island; one granddaughters, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Higby Mortuary Chapel in Aurora. The Rev. Dale Sallans will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in York. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Fund or to St. Mary's Hospice in Rogers, Ark.
Dale Klone
York resident, 84
Dale E. Klone, 84, of York died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in York. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.
Lawrence Reetz
York resident, 83
Lawrence Reetz, 83, of York died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Hastings.
He was born Jan. 11, 1917, at York to Frederick and Helena (Roehrs) Reetz. He married Ella Epke on Jan. 21, 1940, at the family home at Waco. Lawrence was raised in the Lutheran faith. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Waco for over 60 years. He was a lifelong farmer in York County and a sports enthusiast.
He is survived by his son, Dale H. (Sherry) Reetz of York; two grandchildren, Andy (Leslie) Reetz of Hickman, and Cari (James) Harless of Lincoln; three great-grandsons, Nathan Harless, Jakson Reetz, William Reetz; and one great-granddaughter, Allison Harless. Also surviving is a sister, Velma Maronde of York and a sister-in-law Louise Reetz of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers, one sister and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at St. John's Lutheran Church south of Waco with the Rev. Paul Kern officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation. Visitation has begun at Metz Mortuary in York.
Olive Schoch
Fairmont resident, 92
Olive I. Schoch, 92, of Fairmont, widow of Harry Ralph Schoch, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in Lincoln. She was born to Frank and Myrtle (Avery) Martin on Sept. 24, 1908, at Fairmont.
Survivors include a son, Wayne (Ruth) Schoch of Rogers, Ark.; a daughter, Maxine Laschanzky of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, at Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., Sunday, at the Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Memorials may be sent to the family. Graveside services will be held at the Fairmont Public Cemetery. The Rev. Betsy Galloway-Carew will officiate.
Dale Anderson
Wakefield resident, 77
Dale Anderson, 77, of Wakefield died earlier this week. Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 24, at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Survivors include Jeanette Shellington of York.
Roy Minnick Jr.
Stromsburg resident, 83
Roy L. Minnick, 83, of Stromsburg died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1916, to Dr. Roy I. and Gertrude Minnick at Stromsburg. He attended Stromsburg schools and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1934. He served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps.
On July 5, 1942, he was married to Rosalie Nordquist. He then attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree on July 13, 1948. He and Rosalie then moved to North Platte where he operated R & R Hardware Store. Roy then began his career as pharmaceutical salesman and he and Rosalie moved to Kuester Lake in Grand Island. Rosalie died on March 27, 1979.
He remained in Grand Island until April 23, 1981, when he was married to Dorothy Marie Christensen at the Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg. They made their home in Stromsburg.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Stromsburg; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one nephew.
Preceding him in death were wife, Rosalie; daughter, Metha K. Monson; and two brothers, Bob and Jack Christensen.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Keith Drozek officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 26, at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Lydia Schibbelhut
Waco infant
Lydia Grace Schibbelhut, the infant daughter of Greg and Wendy Schibbelhut of Waco, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln.
She was born Tuesday, Nov. 21 2000 at 5:10 a.m. She became a child of God through baptism and shortly thereafter passed from the loving arms of her family into her Savior's waiting arms. The family looks forward to a happy reunion in heaven.
Survivors include her parents; sisters, Emma, four, and Julia, two; maternal grandparents, Rev. Karl and Barbara Gurgel of Lake Mills, Wis.; paternal grandparents, Professor John and Lydia Schibbelhut of New Ulm, Minn.; maternal great-grandparents, Gerhard and Anna Seefeldt of Hartford, Wis.; paternal great-grandmother, Eva Schibbelhut of Lamar, Colo.; aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Madeline.
Private family services will be held Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will take place at the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Barre Mills, Wis., at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the building funds of the Nebraska Lutheran High School or the Trinity Lutheran School in Waco.
