Lois E. Hoback

Lois E. Hoback, 67, of Utica died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Seward.

She was born Dec. 1, 1932, at Nebraska City, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Gude. She graduated from St. Bernard Academy High School in Nebraska City, and was retired from the Houchin Bindery in Utica.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; son, Robert (Kimberly) Hoback of Westminster, Colo.; daughter, Diane (Dennis) Weber of Friend; two brothers, Joseph (Deloris) Gude of Plainfield, Ind., and Donald (Clara Lou) Gude of Cassville, Mo.; brother-in-law, Don Fritz of Carson City, Nev.; sister, Mary Lou (Norman) Ehmke of Sand Springs, Okla.; sister-in-law, Jewell Hoback of Marcola, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David; her daughter, Annette; and one brother, Herbert Gude.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Utica, with the Rev. Father Maurice Current officiating. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 4, at the church. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Church Cemetery, Utica. Visitation will be held Sunday, from 1-8:30 p.m., and on Monday, from 1-5 p.m., at Volzke Mortuary and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Theresa Naber

Theresa Marie Naber, 35, of York, passed into eternal life on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Theresa Marie Glassburner was born July 26, 1965, in Seward, to Jerry and Ruth (Kohel) Glassburner. She lived in Stromsburg most of her life where she graduated from high school in 1983. She then moved to York and was united in marriage to Chad R. Naber on Sept. 30, 1984. To this union two daughters, Nichole and Danielle, were born. They were divorced in 1991. Theresa shared her life with Dallas Critel for the past 10 years and they have one daughter, Shelby Lynn. Theresa had various jobs in the York area. She was employed at Redman Homes when she became ill in December of 1999.

Survivors include three daughters: Nichole Ann Naber, Danielle Marie Naber and Shelby Lynn Naber of York; significant companion, Dallas Critel of York; father Jerry Glassburner of Aurora; mother Ruth (Kohel) Glassburner of Oshkosh, Wis.; brother, James Glassburner of York; sister, Catherine Perryman of Oshkosh, Wis.; grandparents, Frank and Elsie Glassburner of Council Bluffs, Iowa; five nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is also survived by many friends.

Her maternal grandparents and one uncle preceded her in death.

Services will be held today, Monday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m., at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in York, with the Rev. Doug Waltemath officiating.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.

Rose Medinger

Rose E. Walsh Medinger of Schuyler, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at the Alegent Health Memorial Hospital in Schuyler.

She was born on Jan. 6, 1929, in Primrose, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Miller) Feik. She attended classes at rural Primrose schools.

She was married to Philip Walsh on May 16, 1945, in Primrose. He died on Dec. 15, 1967.

On Aug. 12, 1985, she was married to Richard Medinger in York. She lived in Arizona for several years before moving to Schuyler in 1996. She was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Schuyler and St. Augustine's Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Medinger of Schuyler; two sons, Ivan (Sharon) Walsh of Grand Island, and Glen (Janet) Walsh of York; two daughters, Bernadette (Roger) Reetz of Pueblo West, Colo., and Florence (Rex) Charlton of York; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Marge) Feik of Greensborough, N.C., and Leonard (Dollie) Feik of Mead; and two sisters, Marcella Walsh and Theresa (Frank) Berger, both of Spalding.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Philip Walsh, and her brothers, Peter, Jake, and Fritz Feik.

Memorials may be made to St. Augustine's Parish Hall Building Fund or the family's choice.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 21, from noon until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:30-10:45 a.m. at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel in Schuyler. A Rosary will be held Monday, Aug. 21, at 7:30 p.m., at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m., at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in York, on Tuesday, Aug. 22.

F. K. Hopkins

F. K. Hopkins, 75, of Bradshaw died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, in York.

He was born April 9, 1925, in Palco, Kan., to Frank and Alma (Long) Hopkins. He completed his education at Haskell Creek Rural School near Ord. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He moved to Bradshaw in 1946 and worked on the construction of the Farmer's Co-op Elevator. On Feb. 14, 1947, he was married to Mildred Anderson, a Bradshaw native, at Grand Island. He worked as the Bradshaw Schools custodian for 41 years. Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Bradshaw; son, Michael of Lincoln; daughter Patrice (Ron) Weiss of York; and grandsons, Ryan Hopkins of Lincoln and Christopher Weiss of York. Additional survivors include his aunts, Elda Anderson of Ord, and Maxine Patterson of Encino, Calif.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bradshaw United Methodist Church with the Rev. Seth Leypoldt and Phil Towle officiating. The burial will be at the Utica Cemetery. There will be cremation, with no visitation. Metz Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Alice M. Styskal McRae

Alice M. (Styskal) McRae, 84, of Omaha, died Aug. 26, 2000, at Skyline Nursing Home in Omaha.

She was born July 19, 1916.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. McRae; parents; and one brother, John.

Survivors include one son, Robert John (Marisol) McRae of Surrey, B.C.; one brother, Frank Styskal of Waco; and sisters, Adeline Erks and Rose Sherman of York; and several nieces.

Funeral services were held at St. Bernard's Church at Omaha, on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Mark Johnson

Mark A. Johnson, 44, of York, died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2000 as a result of an automobile accident near York.

Mark was born on March 11, 1956 in South Pasadena, Calif. Mark grew up in California, and worked for several construction contractors there prior to moving to Nebraska. Mark lived and worked in Stromsburg for a number of years prior to moving to York in 1986. He worked for a number of contractors in the York area, including doing painting with Jim Pogue, working for Jensen Lumber Company, and working for Greg Holoch Builders prior to starting his own business, M. Johnson Carpentry in the summer of 1995. In addition to being a "perfectionist" Finish Carpenter, Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

He was a member and Past Officer of York B.P.O. Elks Lodge #1024 of York; a member of Abate of Nebraska and Abate of California; a member of the Waco Trap Range at Waco, Nebraska and a Lifetime Member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association.

Survivors include his parents, Leo and Vilma Johnson of St. George, Utah; his sister, Cris (and her husband, Jeff) Howell of Kingman, Ariz.; his brother, Mike Johnson of Yuba City, Calif.; a son, Jake Johnson of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; his companion and special friend, Dai Smith of York, Nebraska; many other friends and relatives. Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents.

According to Mark's wishes, his body will be cremated. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, September 11, 2000 at the First Lutheran Church - 14th and Delaware Avenue in York, Nebraska with Pastor Dick Woolard officiating.

There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be made in care of the family and sent to Lewis Funeral Chapel - 1015 Lincoln Avenue, York, Nebraska 68467, who is in charge of arrangements.

Lucille G. Ward

Henderson resident, 87

Lucille Gwendolyn Roach Ward, 87, of Henderson died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Henderson Care Center in Henderson.

She was born to Fred Isaac and Clara Bea (Hohman) Roach on Sept. 18, 1913, in Corning, Iowa. She was one of 13 children in the family.

She moved with her family at the age of four years from Sargent to Grand Island in 1917. She attended Stolly Park Grade School and graduated from Grand Island High School. Following graduation, she worked in Grand Island for Augustine Printing Co. and Brown Fruit Co., and also helped with a family-owned root beer business in the summer months. She enjoyed her family life in Grand Island.

At the age of 28, she moved with a friend to Salt Lake City, Utah, and worked as a nutritional dietitian at a large hospital. There she met and married Edgar Lee Ward on May 13, 1941. They moved to Enid, Okla., and started their family. To this marriage, 10 children were born. In 1962, she and her nine children remaining at home moved to Henderson.

She was employed by Grace Children's Home as the cook for the many children they cared for. She left Grace Children's Home in 1973 and was employed at EPCO Plastics in Henderson until failing health required that she retire in 1979. She then turned her attention to her gardening, cooking and care for her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing her recipes, garden and friendship with anyone who stopped, including family, friends, and even strangers. She always offered an open invitation to her home where visitors were well cared for and well fed. She will be sadly missed by both family and friends who will always cherish warm memories of her in their hearts.

Lucille was baptized at Westside Church in Enid, Okla. In 1953, she was baptized and confirmed and attended First Baptist Church of Grand Island. Following her move to Henderson in 1962, she affiliated with and attended the EMB church, now called Faith Evangelical Bible Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Clara Roach; husband, Edgar Lee Ward; sons, Stephen Edgar Ward and Fred Richard Ward; brothers, Billie Ray Roach, Lee Edward Roach, LeVern Henry Roach, and Fred James Roach; and one sister, Doris Bea Roach.

She is survived by her children: Sherry and husband Robert Poplin of San Diego, Calif., Del Raye and husband Vernon Ollenberger, Balko, Okla., Penny Farris of Augusta, Kan., Clark Ward of Ida Grove, Iowa, Niki Lage and husband James of York, Timothy Rex Ward of Lincoln, Pola Ellis and husband Steve of Charter Oak, Iowa, and Tina Richards and husband Gene of McCool Junction; brothers, Harold Roach of St. Paul, Robert Roach of LaMiroda, Calif., and Jack Roach of Central City; sisters, Marion Dahlke of St. Paul, Dorothy Worrell of Burley, Ida., Ruth Henning of Lincoln, Joyce Hodtwalker of Grand Island; 24 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at 1:30 p.m. at Faith Evangelical Bible Church in Henderson with Pastor Rob Pearson officiating. Gwyn Goertzen accompanied the congregational singing of "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages." Casket bearers were Frank Rollins, Victor Jones, Duane Ward, Trenton Lage, Gregory Cross and Jack Roach. Interment was in the church cemetery south of Henderson with Farmer and Son Funeral Home of Geneva in charge of arrangements. Memorials are directed to American Diabetes Association or the Faith Evangelical Bible Church in Henderson.

Connie Arlene Hevelone

Lincoln resident, 62

Connie Arlene Hevelone, 62, of Lincoln died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000.

She was born on Aug. 11, 1938, in Auburn to John and Francis (Staley) Keyt. She married Dan D. Hevelone at First Christian Church in Beatrice on Feb. 2, 1956. She worked as a bank teller at Union Bank and Trust Company for 15 years. She was a member of Crestwood Christian Church in Lincoln

Survivors include her husband, Dan; twin daughters, Terri L. (Dale) Haack of York and Traci J. (Wayne) Gilmer of Omaha, and five grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Sarah L. Haack.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St., Lincoln, with the Rev. Duncan Miller officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, and 9 a.m. until services Wednesday, at the funeral home. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to Crestwood Christian Church Foundation or the Scleroderma Research Foundation.

Aurora resident, 85

Oddetta Jones, 85, of Aurora, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary of York.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 22 at Community Bible Church in Lushton.
