Donald J. Focher, age 68, was a resident of Prague, NE. He passed away on October 19, 2010 in David City, NE. On October 19, 1942, Donald was born to Joseph Jr. and Agnes (Paseka) Focher in David City, NE. He grew up near Bruno, NE and attended a nearby country school. He later graduated from David City High School in 1961. From his high school days forward, he farmed with his father near Bruno. On January 25, 1964, Donald married Darlene Bohac at St. Vitus Catholic Church in Touhy, NE. They lived on a farm near Bruno where he farmed raising grain, cattle, hogs and sheep. He also worked for Economy Housing, Proskovec Construction, Morris Havlovic and Timpte Incorporated throughout the years. He was a longtime parishioner at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Plasi.

Donald was preceded in death by his father Joseph Focher Jr., grandson Jonathan Engle, nephew Gary Macholan, brother in law Dewayne Bohac. He is survived by his wife Darlene, children and spouses Denise and Mark Janak, Brainard, NE, Deann Engle and special friend Jason DeBolt, Ceresco, NE, Dale and Lori Focher, Bruno, NE, Doreen and David Gibbons, Schuyler, NE, and Dean Focher, Prague, NE; grandchildren Sarah, Michaela and Jacob Janak, Michael Engle, Bethany and Zane Focher, Colin and Matthew Gibbons; mother Agnes Focher, David City, NE; father and mother in law Adolph and Rose Bohac, Valparaiso, NE.

Marie was born on December 8, 1911 at Edholm in Butler County to Depot Agent Albert Havel and Mayme Hajek Havel. She attended District #1 rural school and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1929. She taught in Butler County, Districts #53, #60 and #6 for eight years. Marie married Joseph Rezac on June 1, 1937 and had three children: Kathleen, Darryl, and Darlene. She taught in rural school Districts #35, #62 and #91 in Saunders County until graduating from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont in 1969. She then taught fourth grade at North Ward and West Ward Schools in Wahoo for nine years. After retiring in 1977 from the public school system, she taught at St. John’s Parochial School in Weston for an additional 8 years for a total of 37 years of teaching!

Marie and Joe lived on a farm west of Cedar Bluffs for 29 years before moving to Wahoo in 1966. Marie was a member of two extensions clubs since 1937, Dandy Bunch and Platte View Club. She served as County Chairman for three years and many committees; she received recognition in 1997 for completing 60 years of extension service. She was active in 4-H as a child on the 1920’s, led 4-H school clubs in the 1930’s and was a leader of a 4-H club near Cedar Bluffs in the 1940’s. Marie was elected to the Saunders County Historical Society Board in 1975 in which she was very interested and served for 20 years. She served as secretary for seven years and was honored by the board with a lifetime membership for her work done in obtaining and restoring the depot and caboose. She was a member of the Wahoo Women’s Club, St. Ludmilla’s Catholic Organization, and St. Wenceslaus Church.

Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; granddaughter, Alecia Marie Kaiser; and sister Helen Divis. She is survived by her daughters and son, Kathleen Pearson, Darryl and Joyce Rezac, and Darlene and Phil Kaiser, seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Ricke D. Furrow

Ricke Dwayne Furrow was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on August 1, 1953 to Richard and Utha (Swett) Furrow. He graduated from Fairbury High School and later graduated from Kearney State College with a Bachelor Degree. Ricke was a registered land surveyor and worked for Hoskins-Western-Sonderager in Lincoln from 1976 to 1982. From 1982 to 2004 he worked for Lamp Rynearson & Associates in Omaha, NE. On November 15, 1975, Ricke married Christy J. Klevemann in Beatrice, NE. They lived in Lincoln from 1976 to 1981. Their home has been in Weston, NE the last 29 years. He died on October 13, 2010 near Weston, NE. Ricke was an avid reader of science fiction and liked to play character role programs on the computer. He had recently become interested in wood working.

Ricke is survived by his wife Christy J. Furrow; children and spouses John E. and Michelle Furrow, Norfolk, NE, Sarah E. Furrow and Erik Ausk, Crofton, NE, Jeremiah D. and Kelli Furrow, Samantha D. Furrow and fiancé Erik Osmera, all of Lincoln, NE; grandsons, Jacob, Gabriel and Elijah; granddaughters Lillian and Isabella; parents Richard and Utha Furrow, Endicott, NE; sister Cindy Rogers, Albuquerque, NM; brothers Thomas (Marla) Furrow and Russell Furrow, all of Fairbury, NE; nieces, nephews and their families.

Evelyn M. Houska, age 93, was a long time resident of rural Wahoo. She was born on July 14, 1917 in North Bend, NE to Albert and Emma (Bauer) Dvorak. Evelyn went to grade school in the North Bend area and graduated from North Bend High School. She was a very hard working woman who loved working on the farm, bowling, traveling, baking, and gardening. She also enjoyed listening to polka music and going to polka dances. Evelyn was married to Joseph Houska, Sr. on January 12, 1938 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, North Bend, NE. Joseph preceded Evelyn in death on January 14, 2004. Evelyn lived on a farm west of Wahoo for many years until moving to the Haven House in Wahoo in the late 1990's. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, St. Ludmilla's Guild, Altar Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters, and Saunders County Czech Singers. Evelyn was also a long time member of the "Pioneerettes" and "Wonka Oil" bowling teams in Wahoo who traveled and competed all over the country.

Evelyn is survived by her son Joseph Houska, Jr. of Wahoo, daughters in law, Bernice Houska of Wahoo and Janet Houska of St. Louis, MO, brother and sister in law, Richard and Lois Dvorak of Stuart, NE, sister and brother in law, Mary Ann and Duane Knuth of North Carolina, grandchildren and spouses, Denise and Darren Morton of Lincoln, NE, Loran and Karen Houska of Wahoo, NE, Lori and Marc Buckminster of Wahoo, NE, Greg and Barb Houska of St. Louis, MO and William Houska, Jr. of St. Louis, MO, great grandchildren, Cassie and Kyle Morton, Megan Houska, Taylor Buckminster, Breana and Trey Houska. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, William Houska, brothers, Joe Dvorak and Albert Dvorak, Jr., sisters, Wilma Ondracek and Emily Roh.

Milo L. Meduna was born near Weston, Nebraska on December 17, 1930 to James and Catherine (Chapek) Meduna. He attended a rural grade school near Weston and farmed and lived south of Weston his entire life. Milo served in the US Army during the Korean War with the 185th Army Engineers. He entered the service December 11, 1952 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal at Colorado Springs, CO on September 23, 1954. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. On April 19, 1958, Milo was united in marriage to Elaine Stava at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bruno, NE. Milo passed away October 10, 2010 at the South Haven Living Center in Wahoo at the age of 79 years. He was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Weston and a 55 year member of American Legion Post #308. Milo was always ready to carry on a good conversation with anyone. He was a good Samaritan and would stop to help anyone broken down along the road. Milo successfully fought off both stomach cancer and a heart bypass.

Milo is survived by his wife Elaine, son and daughter in law John and Carol Meduna, Crescent, IA; daughters and sons in law, Constance and Arthur Paquin, Carlisle, IA, Theresa and Michael Glanz, Rose and Steve Daharsh, Joyce and Kenneth DeLay, and Jane and Mathew Fesler, all of Wahoo; ten grandchildren; brother Raymond Meduna, Wahoo; sisters and brothers in law, Rose and Wesley Shepard, Lincoln, NE, and Betty and Floyd Hutzenbiler, Rockville, MD; Dorothy (Dan) Meduna, Weston, NE; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Daniel Meduna and sister in law Dorothy (Ray) Meduna.

Rita C. Paseka was born August 2, 1922 near Morse Bluff, Nebraska to Mike and Anna (Bratrsovsky) Pabian. She grew up in the Cedar Hill area near Morse Bluff attending a nearby country school and also Linwood High School. She was united in marriage to Joseph C. Paseka on February 13, 1945 in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Anne at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. They made their home on a farm northeast of Prague where she lived the rest of her life. She worked as a homemaker and farm wife raising a big garden and many chickens and ducks to feed her family. Chicken was her favorite to serve. Rita loved baking, making rye bread and strudel. She loved playing bingo and cards and doing crossword puzzles. Being with her grandchildren was a great joy for her.

Rita passed away October 7, 2010 in Wahoo at the age of 88 years. She was a parishioner at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was a member of the Rosary Society, First Catholic Slavok Ladies Association and the American Legion Post #254 Auxiliary.

Rita is survived by her daughters and sons in law, JoAnn and Larry Johnson, Malmo, NE, Janice and Richard Wielage, Mead, NE; sons and daughters in law, Ronald and Debra, Richard and Beverly, Raymond, Robert and Mary Ann, Roger and Joyce, and Randy and Christina, all of Prague, NE; 28 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; sister Anne Nesladek, North Bend, NE. Preceded in death by husband Joseph C. Paseka; brothers, Mike, Thomas, Victor and Frank Pabian; sister Marie Schuler.

Glenn O. Mumm

Glenn O. Mumm was born December 1, 1923, the youngest of eleven children, to Henry and Anna (Henningsen) Mumm on the family farm west of Yutan, NE. He attended a country school and graduated from Yutan High School in 1941. His parents both died before he was 18 years old and he started working on the family farm. On February 20, 1949, he was married to Ruth Carlson at the Reformed Church in Yutan. They farmed near Leshara, NE for a short time before moving to a farm southeast of Ithaca, NE. In the early 1960's they moved to their farm southeast of Wahoo. Glenn was a lifetime farmer and was always happiest when driving one of his tractors. He was generous and always ready to help a neighbor repair their farm equipment to help them get back to the field. Through the years, he and Ruth's door was always open to his nieces and nephews. He loved his grandchildren very much and always attended their activities. Glenn passed away on October 5, 2010 in Wahoo at the age of 86 years. Glenn was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, served on the board of the Ithaca Farmers Coop and the Stocking Precinct Board and was a regular Red Cross blood donor.

Glenn is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Kay and Michael Jurgens, Ann and Gregory Crockett, his grandchildren, Brett and Janelle Jurgens, and Lauren and Grant Crockett, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; grand daughter Alexis Grace Crockett and ten brothers and sisters.

Richard L. Tweedy was born near Verdel, Nebraska on his family's farm on April 9, 1949 to Fred and Emma (Buskirk) Tweedy. His father died when Richard was only two years old. The family moved to Saunders County and he attended schools in Weston and Ithaca, Nebraska. Richard started working at an early age. He worked for Consolidated Blenders in Mead, which was known as the alfalfa mill, for many years. On Mar. 26, 1968, he was united in marriage to Norma Vanek in Yankton, South Dakota. They made their home in Mead and Ashland, Nebraska for many years. After living in Omaha for seventeen years, they moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa four years ago. Richard worked with his son Ross, calling their business TNT Construction, doing commercial and residential roofing. Richard always kept a positive attitude and was always willing to help anyone in need. When the local mission would be closed, he and Norma helped many people with a place to stay and something to eat. Richard had recently been baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith.

Richard is survived by his wife Norma; sons and daughters in law, Rodney, Greensboro, NC, Richard and Anne, Colon, NE, Russell and Tina, Orlando, FL, and Ross of Council Bluffs, IA; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters Delores LaCroix, Crofton, NE and Sharon (Lawrence) Kaiser, Ceresco, NE; brother Kenneth Tweedy, Ames, NE; sister in law Pearl Tweedy; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marion, Ben and Harold; sisters, Darlene LaCroix, Etta Barber, and Donna Milliken; and infant siblings, Fred Jr. and Betty Ann.
