Daniel F. "Goose" Egr was born February 25, 1939 in Prague, Nebraska to Frank J. and Adeline A. (Woita) Egr. He was baptized in the Catholic faith at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church. Dan attended District #83 and later graduated from Prague High School in 1956. While in high school, he acquired the nickname "Goose" for his hook shot in basketball. After graduation, he joined the US Navy, serving two years on the USS Chilton until his discharge in 1958.

On January 28, 1961 Dan was married to Joyce Anne Miller at the home of her parents. Dan drove trucks, ran construction equipment and farmed, but his true passion was feeding cattle. Dan was quick witted and loved to visit with people. His family said if he didn't pick on you he probably didn't like you. His favorite saying was "If you never lie, you don't have to remember what you said". Joyce didn't think that applied to his wife though. His last years were spent looking out of the kitchen window at the birds and wildlife because of cancer and COPD. He was a frequent flyer at Lakeside Hospital where most of the people who worked there knew him by name. He especially loved Dr. Fitzgibbons who he said knew how to keep him alive (more than the specialists).

Dan recently found his faith again and looked forward to Fr. Scholl's visits and communion. He loved to tease his grandchildren and often commented how they were so nice to him. This past school year, his grandsons, Owen and Max kept him going as Dan helped to care for them. They always tried to help him even when he didn't want help. Daniel had beaten lung cancer but succumbed to COPD and entered eternal rest June 12, 2011 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha. He was a parishioner of St. James Church, had served on the Yutan School Board, a member of Saunders County Livestock Feeders and was a past member of American Legion Post #262.

Dan is survived by wife Joyce; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Ann Egr, Wahoo, NE, Darin and Sue Egr, Daniel J. and Danielle Egr, all Yutan, NE; grandchildren Mahala, Dylan, Alexis, Madison, Oliver, Cole, Caden, Kendyl, Max and Owen; father Frank J. Egr, Wahoo; brother and sister-in-law Clarence and Nancy Egr, Prague, NE; nephew Chris (Karen) Egr, Weston, NE; niece Carmen (Troy) Kulek, Gretna, NE. He was preceded in death by his mother Adeline A. Egr.
