Agnes "Peggy" Cinfel

Agnes "Peggy" Cinfel, age 89, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday January 15, 2002 at the Columbus Manor. Family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday at McKown Funeral Home. Private Family Services will be held at a later date with burial in the Clarkson Cemetery in Clarkson, Nebraska.

Agnes "Peggy" Cinfel was born December 22, 1912 in Czechoslovakia to Frank and Anna Jirsak. She was united in marriage to Elmer Cinfel on January 21, 1930. They lived in Clarkson and Leigh area before moving to Columbus in 1954. They farmed and owned their own business.

She is survived by:

Burnell J. Witt

Burnell J. Witt, 74, of Columbus died Wednesday February 6, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 00 am Saturday, February 9 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 5: 00 pm Friday at St. Bonaventure Church with a Vigil service at 7: 00 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday morning from 9-10 am at St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Burnell J. Witt was born March 18, 1927 to Arnold & Ida (Woerth) Witt. He attended a rural grade school near Scribner and graduated from Guardian Angel High School in West Point, NE. He married Margaret Knobbe at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Monterey, NE, on August 25, 1948. Burnell farmed 3 years in West Point and then 10 years in Howells. He moved to Columbus in 1961 and sold insurance for Frankllin Life Insurance Company. In 1965 he bought 155 acres of bare land 7 miles south of Columbus and started Witt Feed Yard as well as continuing to farm. Burnell is a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 57 year member of the Knights of Columbus where he is a 4th degree member, active in perpetual adoration, lifetime member of Sertoma where he was past-president, member of the Platte Valley Cattleman, Nebraska Cattlemen, and the National Cattlemen's Association.

James E. Classen

Funeral services for James E. Classen will be10: 30 a.m. Saturday; February 16, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. The Rev. Tom Weisbecker will officiate.Visitation will be Friday 6-7 pm at the McKown Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 7: 00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Burial at a later date will be in the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska.

James E. Classen was born December 22, 1927 in Humphrey, Nebraska to Englebert & Magdeline (Werner) Classen. He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. He served in WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. He retired in 1967 as a Chief Petty Officer. He received his Masters Degree in Education. He taught in the Columbus Public School System. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. He was a life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars #3704 where he was a past Commander and the past District Commander of District #15. He also belonged to the American Legion Hartman Post #84 and the Disabled Veterans.

John F. Lassek

John F. Lassek, age 52, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday February 10, 2002 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 11: 00 a.m. Friday February 15, 2002 at the McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with Reverend Christopher Grimmond officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is from 5: 00 - 8: 00 p.m. Thursday with 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Friday from 10: 00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

John F. Lassek was born May 15, 1949, in Columbus, Nebraska to Stanley and Clara (Kuta) Lassek. He attended St. Anthony grade school and graduated from Scotus High School. John worked construction most of his life and was currently self-employed. He enjoyed fishing, camping and watching sprint car racing.

Mary Lange

Mary Lange, age 85, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday February 3, 2002 at the Columbus Manor. Memorial Services are 10: 30 a.m. Saturday February 9, 2002 at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with Reverend Douglas Zurek officiating. Graveside services are 1: 30 p.m. Saturday at the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul, Nebraska. Family will receive friends from 9: 30 a.m. until service time at McKown Funeral Home.

Mary Lange was born September 7, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio to Charles and Anne Sucharyk. In 1936 she graduated from John Hay High School in Cleveland, Ohio. On June 19, 1937 Mary was united in marriage to Louis A. Lange in Cleveland, Ohio. The couple lived in Cleveland before moving to St. Paul, Nebraska in 1979 to be near family. Louis died in 1983. Mary moved to Columbus, Nebraska in 1990. She was a homemaker and employed as a bookeeper. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Women of the E.L.C.A. Circle, and Eastern Star.

She is survived by:

Evelyn Edna Sock

Evelyn Edna Sock, age 89, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday February 1, 2002 at the Genoa Long Term Care Center. Funeral Services will be held 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday February 5, 2002 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation is from 3: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Monday with a Vigil Service at 7: 00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sock was born February 6, 1912 in rural North Bend, Nebraska to Charles and Mattie (Zehr) Burmood. She later moved to Bellwood, Nebraska where she attended school there. The family then moved to Columbus. Evelyn was a beautician for a short time and then was employed at West End Grocery. On April 1, 1937 she was united in marriage to Joseph Sock at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. At that time they purchased the West End Grocery and operated the store until 1950.
Evelyn was a member of St. Isidore Church, and for many years was an active member of the Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters for over 50 years, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Election Canvassing Board, and was a charter member and one of the first officers of the Eagles Auxiliary. She also volunteered with the St. Isidore's School lunch program. Evelyn loved flowers and plants, playing cards where she belonged to two bridge clubs, and visiting with people. She had a special way with children and enjoyed having them around.

Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Monday January 14, 2002 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Sunday at St. Anthony Church with a Vigil Service at 7: 00 p.m. Sunday also at the church. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. at McKown Funeral Home.

Benedict Joseph Niedbalski was born March 9, 1925 in Fullerton, Nebraska to James and Barbara (Liss) Niedbalski. He was raised and attended school in Platte Center, Nebraska. On June 21, 1952 he was united in marriage to Eleanor Rose Staroscik at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. The couple lived in Columbus where he worked for Henke Machine for 26 years until retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
