Dorothy E. Dush

Dorothy E. Dush, age 90, of Silver Creek, Nebraska died Friday; January 18, 2002 at the Central City Care Center. Funeral services are Monday, 10: 30 a.m. January 21, 2002 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek, Nebraska. The Rev. Dave Korth will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday after 5: 00 p.m. at the church with a 7: 00 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue Monday morning 9: 30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Dorothy E. Dush was born November 18, 1911 in Osceola, Nebraska to George and Ann (Gembica) Sutko. She graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus. On October 19, 1938 she married Andrew Dush at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. Following her marriage she lived near Duncan for a brief time before moving to the farm near Clarks in 1943. She continued living on the farm until she entered the Central City Care Center with her husband. They both lived there until his death on March 15, 1995. Along with raising her family she worked for several years at Swift Packing in Columbus. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek.

Evelyn M. Lueke

Evelyn M. Lueke, 78, of Columbus died Monday, January 21, 2002 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln. Services are 10: 30 am on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Weisbecker officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3-9 pm at McKown Funeral Home with at Vigil service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Burial is in the Calvary Cemetery in rural Columbus.

Evelyn M. Lueke was born December 13, 1923 in Columbus to Frank & Lillian (Berney) Dietz. She lived her entire life in Columbus. She graduated from St. Bonaventure School in 1941 and attended Business College in Omaha. On February 14, 1946 she married Milton Lueke at St. Bonaventure Church. She worked for Consumer Public Power District for many years. She later worked for the Platte County Court and served as the Clerk of the District Court in Platte County for 12 years. She was an avid football fan and enjoyed dancing.

George L. Keller

George L. Keller, 75, of Geneva, NE died Wednesday January 9, 2002 at the Hebron Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 00 am Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Rev. Roland Jank officiating. Visitation is from 4-8 pm Friday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and from 9 am until service time at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.

George was born July 1, 1926 in Richland, Nebraska to Henry and Anna (Morkert) Keller. He grew up in the Richland, Schuyler and Columbus area. He attended Kramer High School in Columbus. He married Neoma Eckmann on July 12, 1949 in Pierre, South Dakota. He worked as a professional salesman for many companies including Consumer Public Power. He lived in Columbus; Salina, Kansas and Aurora before settling in Geneva in 1999. He enjoyed antiques and was an avid sportsman.

Willard "Bud" Griffiths

Willard "Bud" Griffiths, age 63 of Columbus, died Monday; January 21, 2002 at the University Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday; January 25, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. The Rev. Gary Main will officiate. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 4-8 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home and Friday 9: 30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Willard "Bud" Griffiths was born December 3, 1938 in Columbus, Nebraska to Thomas and Grace (Davis) Griffiths. He received his education at Kramer High in Columbus, Nebraska. On October 31, 1959 he married Fran Sweenie at the Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus. They lived in Iowa for a short time before returning to Columbus where they have lived since. Bud owned and operated Griffiths By Products until 1980 when he began driving for a mail contractor. In 1987 he began working for Dizco Mail Contracting. He worked there until 1996 when he retired. Bud was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He enjoyed baseball and was coached several youth baseball teams over the years. Bud was currently a co-owner of Fran's Ceramics with his wife.

Leonard J. Kropatsch

Leonard J. Kropatsch, age 87, of rural Osceola, Nebraska died Friday January 18, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Osceola. Funeral Services 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday January 22, 2002 at St. Stanislaus Church in Duncan, Nebraska with Fr. Dave Korth officiating. Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation begins after 4: 00 p.m. Monday with a Vigil Service at 7: 00 p.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Church in Duncan. Visitation will continue on Tuesday morning from 9: 30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Leonard J. Kropatsch was born September 17, 1914 to Hubert and Paulina (Hapday) Kropatsch on the family farm near Osceola, Nebraska. He attended District #39 School. On August 27, 1940 he was united in marriage to Tillie A. Germata at St. Andrew's Catholic Church rural Osceola, Nebraska. Leonard lived and farmed in rural Osceola until moving to the Good Samaritan Home in Osceola on September of 2001. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Holy Name and past member of the District #39 School Board. Leonard enjoyed listening to Polish Music.

Christine Liss, 85, of Duncan died Monday January 28, 2002 at Genoa Long Term Care. Funeral services are 10: 30 pm Friday February 1, 2002 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan with the Rev. Dave Korth officiating. Visitation will begin on Thursday at 5: 00 pm at St. Stanislaus Church in Duncan. There will be a vigil service Thursday evening at 7: 00 pm at the church. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9: 30 am until service time. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Christine E. Liss was born August 27, 1916 in Polk County to George and Catherine (Matya) Boruch. She was raised in Polk County and attended country schools there. She married John Liss on April 20, 1942 in Duncan. She raised her family and worked for Dale Electronics for 15 years. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan, St. Ann's Society, and the Lions Club.

Letha Higgins

Letha J. Higgins, age 87 of Columbus, Nebraska formerly of Kearney, Nebraska died Sunday, October 7, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 2: 00 p.m. Friday October 12, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation is from 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and on Friday from 1: 00 p.m. until service time at the church.

Letha J. Higgins was born February 24, 1914 in Elm Creek, Nebraska to James Thomas and T. Pearl (Teller) Fox. She graduated from Elm Creek High School. On April 22, 1936 Letha was united in marriage to Maynard Higgins in Minden, Nebraska. The couple lived in the Kearney area where she worked for J.C. Penney in Kearney for many years until retiring. In 1977 they moved to Columbus, Nebraska. Letha was an avid reader & enjoyed sewing and altering. She loved people, her pets and cooking. Letha attended the Methodist Church.

Gerald E. Loeffler

Gerald E. Loeffler, 80, of Platte Center died Thursday October 18 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 am Tuesday October 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center with the Rev. Rod Kneifl officiating. Visitation is from 3-5 pm on Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6 pm Monday at St. Joseph Church in Platte Center. There will be a Vigil service Monday evening at 7 pm at St. Joseph's. Burial will be in Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery.

Gerald E. Loeffler was born Feb 21, 1921 in Lindsay, NE to Henry and Mary (Schuele) Loeffler. He was raised in the Lindsay area and attended schools in St. Bernard. He married Constance "Connie" A. Dohmen on April 11, 1944 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay. He farmed until 1957 before moving to Illinois where he worked for several years before returning to the Platte Center area where he owned and operated Midway Construction. Gerald was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center, the Knights of Columbus, and was the Township Treasurer for 12 years. He enjoyed travel, fishing, and playing cards. Memorials can be made to the donors choice.

Mary L. Ryba, 94, of Columbus died Monday October 8 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 am Thursday, October 11 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation will begin at 4: 00 pm Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with a Vigil service at 7: 00 pm at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9: 30 am until service time at the Church. Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Duncan.

Mary L. Ryba was born November 2, 1906 in Loup City, NE to John and Eva (Drozd) Czarnek. On September 22, 1929 she was united in marriage to Leo Ryba in Loup City. The couple lived and farmed near Duncan. Mary was a homemaker and a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan.

Mary is survived by one son, Emil (Glenda) Ryba of Columbus and one daughter Dee Bowman of Columbus. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Joann, son Lawrence, seven brothers and six sisters.
