Leo James Chohon

Leo J. Chohon, 98, of Silver Creek died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at Genoa Long Term Care. Funeral services are 10: 00 am Friday January 11 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek with the Rev. Dave Korth officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday after 6: 00 pm at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek with a Vigil at 7: 00 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9 am until service time at the Church. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.

Leo James Chohon was born February 7, 1903 in Columbus to John & Mary (Jaworski) Chohon. He was raised in Platte County and later St. Bernard. He attended schools in Tarnov. On January 21, 1930 he married Mary Zegar in Krakow. He moved to Silver Creek in 1936 where he farmed. He remained on the farm until Dec. 2001. Leo played the violin, enjoyed Polish polka music, and dancing. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek, the St. Lawrence Cemetery Board, and the Holy Name Society.

Michael Delarme

Michael Delarme, age 46 of Washington, Iowa died Friday September 28, 2001 at his home.
Memorial Services are 10: 00 a.m. Friday October 5, 2001 at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. There is no visitation. Following the services Mr. Delarme's Cremains will be buried at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus.

Michael Delarme was born November 15, 1954 in Columbus, Nebraska to Howard and Amelia (Kolbush) Delarm. He graduated from Columbus High School. He graduated from nursing school with an R.N. Degree. Michael worked as a nurse in Omaha, Nebraska, Burlington, Iowa & was currently residing in Washington, Iowa. He was a talented musician, photographer & a gourmet cook.

He is survived by:

Sister: Joan Timms of Hastings, Nebraska
Many Nieces and Nephews.

Dale Harney

Dale Eugene Harney, 67, of Columbus died Monday September 17 at Bryan LGH-West in Lincoln. No services are scheduled at this time.

Dale E. Harney was born September 24, 1933 in Norwood, MO to Carl and Camilla (Christensen) Harney. Dale graduated from Pilger High School in 1951. Dale served in the US Army in Germany from 1953-1956. He married Lila Hubbard in May of 1958 and later married Betty L. Tank on June 5th, 1992 in David City. Dale worked as the manager for Standard Feed before retiring.
Dale was active as a Boy Scout Leader and served on the ambulance squad in Leigh. His two great loves in life were fishing and the Huskers.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents and one grandson in infancy.

Bernard Stachura

Bernard F. Stachura, 89, of Columbus died Saturday September 22 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 am on Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan with the Rev. Dave Korth officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with a Vigil service beginning at 7 pm at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Church from 9: 30 am until service time. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Bernard F. Stachura was born June 2, 1912 in Polk County Nebraska to Stanley & Mary (Cuba) Stachura. Bernard lived his entire life on the family farm in Polk County, Nebraska where he was engaged in farming until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, and the outdoors. He was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Nebraska.

Bernard is survived by his Sister: Catherine Stachura of rural Columbus.

Doris Brazeal

Doris Brazeal, age 81, of Columbus died Thursday; September 13, 2001 at her home in Columbus. Funeral services will be 10: 00 a.m. Tuesday; September 18, 2001 at Federated Church in Columbus. The Rev. Don Wilson will officiate. The church is located at 2704 15th Street. Visitation will be held Monday from 3: 00 - 8: 00 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Tuesday 9: 00 a.m. until service time at the Church. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.

Doris was born August 11, 1920 in Cooper, Iowa to E. Leroy & Glennnie (Harshbarger) Schnepp. She attended high school in Shenandoah, Iowa and graduated from Peru State Teachers College. She then taught at various country schools. On September 9, 1940 she married Garnett "Gary" Brazeal in Dennison, Iowa. They moved to Columbus in 1945 where they owned and operated the Brazeal Furniture Store until 1962.

Doris has been a member of the Federated Church for over 50 years, and has taught several Sunday School and Bible School classes. She held several offices in the Church, including serving as an Elder. She served in several organizations in Columbus, including leadership positions in the Garden Club and membership in the Book Club and ChristCare. She served on the Columbus Tree Board and in 1996 was given the Citizen Volunteer Award for distinguished service to the community. Doris also served on the Nebraska AARP, holding office as State Representative and as Vice Chairman of the State Legislative Committee. In 1996, at the request of the AARP she was instrumental in assisting the F.B.I. in prosecuting and convicting fraudulent telephone solicitors aimed at the elderly. She was later given a letter of commendation from the F.B.I. for her service.

Victor C. Weber

Victor C. Weber, age 89, of Columbus died Monday; May 27, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Osceola, Nebraska. Funeral services are 1: 00 p.m. Thursday; May 30, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. The Reverend Gary Main will officiate. Burial will be in the Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 3-8 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home.

Victor C. Weber was born January 2, 1913 in Platte County, Nebraska to John and Hattie (Schroeder) Weber. He received his education in the rural Platte County schools in the Monroe area. He farmed north east of Monroe until 1948 when he moved west of Columbus where he has lived since. He owned and operated several service stations in Columbus including the Sindclair and Champlain Stations. He then worked with his son at Mel's Automotive and later at the Mower Shop until his retirement.

Becky Wells

Becky Rachel Wells, age 10, of Columbus died Saturday; May 11. 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 00 a.m. Tuesday at the McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. The Rev. Joseph Miksch will officiate. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Monday with a 4: 00 p.m. all at the McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Monday morning 8: 00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery located in Oakdale, Nebraska.

Becky Rachel Wells was born August 21, 1991 in Columbus to Robert A. Wells and Patty (Yates) Stubbert. She received her education at home through Columbus Public Schools.

Walter F. Gehring

Walter F. Gehring, age 83, of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday May 16, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 2: 00 p.m. Tuesday May 21, 2002 at the Bible Baptist Church in Columbus. Burial will be in the Roselawn Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is 3: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Monday and from 8: 00 a.m. - 12 noon Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 1: 00 p.m. until service time at church.

Walter F. Gehring was born January 6, 1919 in rural Platte Center to Henry and Tena (Hassebrook) Gehring. He attended District #72 School. On October 2, 1941 Walter was united in marriage to Grace Kruse in Tyler, Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII from 1942 - 1945. Following the war Walter lived in Columbus & worked for Fleischer- Schmid Manufacturing. In 1949 he started Gehring Construction specializing in concrete work. In 1970 he started the Ready Mix Concrete Plant in Columbus. In 1979 Walter retired from Gehring Construction and was currently serving as Chairman of the Board. Walter was a member of the Bible Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher for 46 years, Sunday School Superintendent, & was a Church Board Officer. Walter enjoyed compiling Bible studies for the encouragement of others.

Joe Dean Blevins

Joe Dean Blevins, age 61, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday May 3, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Services are10: 00 a.m. Monday; May 6, 2002 at the McKown Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry McCready will officiate. Visitation is Sunday 3-8 p.m. and Monday 8: 00 a.m. until services time all the the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Joe Dean Belvins was born September 8, 1940 in Enon, Arkansas to Lonnie and Evelyn (Peden) Blevins. He received his education and graduated from Green Forest High School in Arkansas. He married Norma Gowler on June 4, 1960 in Yankton, South Dakota. He had lived in Norfolk, Nebraska before moving to Columbus in July 1990. Joe previously worked for Ablers Transfer for 13 years. He was currently working as a driver for Consolidated Freight Way where he has worked for the past 20 years. Joe was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
