Reynold "Rey" A Wicks, 82 of Columbus, died Wednesday September 12, 2001 at Columbus Community Hospital.
Funeral Services at 10: 30 AM Saturday September 15, 2001 at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus, with Fr. Chris Grimmond officiating. Burial is at St. Bonaventure Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is Friday from 3: 00 pm until 8: 00 pm and Saturday from 8: 00 am until service time all at McKown Funeral Home.
Reynold was born July 4, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York to Charles and Lillian (Keyes) Wicks. He lived in Brooklyn until World War II when he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp., serving in Italy. He married Verla M. McDermott on August 8, 1945 in Clovis, New Mexico. He worked as a truck driver for Union Pacific Railroad Motor Frieght in Nebraska and Colorado until his retirement. They lived in Central Nebraska & Denver, Colorado before retiring to Columbus in 1981. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Denver and Columbus. He also was a active union member.

Mary B. Kerkman
Mary Kerkman, age 34, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday April 3, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Services are 10: 00 a.m. Saturday April 6, 2002 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial is in the Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery near Platte Center, Nebraska. Visitation will be after 5: 00 p.m. Friday with a Vigil Service at 7: 00 p.m. at St. Isidore Church. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9: 00 a.m. until service time, also at the church. Memorials may be made to the Mary Kerkman Memorial Fund.
Mary B. Kerkman was born December 27, 1967 in Norfolk to Victor and Lorraine (Rynaski) Kathol. She received her early education at St. Boniface School in Elgin and graduated from Pope John High School in 1985. She attended St. Mary's College in Omaha and the University of Nebraska-Kearney. On July 11, 1987 she married Doug Kerkman at St. Boniface Church in Elgin.
Mary lived in Elgin before moving to Columbus in 1996. She worked the past 6 years at Double O Trucking where she was currently the Business Manager. She was a member of St. Isidore Church, the Nebraska Trucking Association, and the YMCA.

Robert Keener
Robert Keener, 69, of Norfolk formerly of Columbus, died Wednesday November 14, 2001at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. Services are 10: 30 a.m. Saturday; November 17, 2001 at the McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. The Rev. Joseph Miksch will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 9: 30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Leigh Cemetery.
Robert was born May 13, 1932 in Sylva, North Carolina to Abraham and Berdell (Cope) Keener. He followed the rodeo circuit to Aksarben in Omaha, Nebraska. On March 11, 1967 he married Beverly Sohl in Columbus, Nebraska. He worked for 17 years at Behlen Manufacturing where he received the Million Mile Drivers Safety Award in 1989. In 1991 he retired from Behlens. He enjoyed horse racing, blue grass and country music and western movies. For many years he cut and sold firewood to area residents.

Emil C. Kula, age 80, of Bellwood, Nebraska died Friday; December 28, 2001 at David Place in David City, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 10: 00 a.m. Monday; December 31, 2001 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Bellwood, Nebraska. The Rev. Jeremy Hazuka will officiate. Burial will be in the Presentation Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 3-5 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6: 30 p.m. at the Church. A vigil will be held at 7: 00 p.m. on Sunday also at the Church. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 9: 00 a.m. until service time at the Church.
Emil was born September 11, 1921 in Nance County, Nebraska to John and Ann (Shepoka) Kula. He received his early education at Nance County School #43. He then attended Fullerton High School.Emil served in the Civilian Conservation Corp prior to his enlistment in the Army. He served in the United States Army during WWII from September 10, 1942 until October 30, 1945. On January 15, 1947 he married Irene F. Lesiak at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Krakow. He farmed from 1948 until 1954 when he began working at the Co-op in Bellwood. He worked there for 18 years until his retirement in 1983.He also worked for several years for Van Berg Farms. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Bellwood, American Legion #327 in Bellwood, and a life member of The VFW Post #3704 in Columbus . Emil had served on the Church and School boards for several years. He was a volunteer fireman for 12 years.

Kari Ann Kunneman, 21, of Columbus died Sunday February 3, 2002 in rural Polk County. Services are 10: 30 am Wednesday February 6, 2002 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Tuesday after 5 pm at St. Isidore Church with a vigil service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Burial will be All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
Kari Ann Kunneman was born October 7, 1980 in Columbus to Richard and Mary Lou (Hoppe) Kunneman. She attended St. Isidore Elementary School and graduated from Scotus Central Catholic High School in 1999. While at Scotus, Kari was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated in the top 10 percent of her class. She also participated in Cross Country and Soccer during high school. She was a member of Barb's School of Dance. She worked at First National Bank and the Quail Run Golf Course during her summer break from college. Kari was currently a junior at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, majoring in nursing. While in Lincoln she worked at Scheel's All Sport. She enjoyed going to the UNL Rec Center to run and work out. She enjoyed her pets, going home to see family, spending time with her friends, shopping, baking, and going to the cabin in Schuyler.

Daniel R. Kralik, 60, of Columbus died Sunday January 20, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services are 10: 30 am on Thursday January 24 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Visitation begins on Wednesday after 4 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a Vigil service at 7 pm at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Thursday from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery in Columbus.
Daniel R. Kralik was born November 27, 1941 in Wahoo to Rudy and Alice (Kacirek) Kralik. He lived on the farm in David City until he was 8 and moved to Madison. He graduated from Madison High School and Norfolk Junior College. He worked for the Singer Company in Norfolk. He married Bonnie Nelson on November 18, 1967 in Orient, IA. He lived and worked in various towns throughout Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. Dan came to Columbus where he has lived for the past 30 years. He owned and operated Kralik Sew & Vacuum Center/Dan's Used Cars with his wife and family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family cookouts, and going to the casinos. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, the Eagles Club, and had been in the Army National Guard.

Edward T. Kava, age 76, of Silver Creek, Nebraska died Wednesday October 17, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Saturday October 20, 2001 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek with Fr. Dave Korth officiating. Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation is after 4: 30 p.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Church in Silver Creek. A Vigil Service will be held 7: 00 p.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Church. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9: 30 a.m. until service time also at the church.
Edward Kava was born November 11, 1924 in Genoa to John and Tillie (Liss) Kava. On June 17, 1952 he married Patricia Zywiec at St. Anthony's Church in Columbus. Ed lived in and around the Genoa and Silver Creek areas where he farmed for several years. He also worked at Behlen Manufacturing for 14 years until his retirement. Ed was a talented musician and played the violin and button accordian for the Kava Orchestra for many years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, music, and animals. Ed was a member of St. Lawrence Church in Silver Creek.
