Ronald D. Liebschwager

Ronald D. Liebschwager, 59, of Albuquerque, New Mexico died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at his home in Albuquerque. Graveside services are 10: 00 a.m. Monday, August 5 at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Military honors are by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mr. Liebschwager was born December 28, 1942 in Columbus to Fred H. and Viola (Klaudt) Liebschwager. He went to Columbus High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1961. On December 28, 1986 he married Sheila Reed in San Angelo, TX. He lived in Columbus from 1942-1974, San Angelo from 1974-1987, Wichita Falls, TX from 1987-1988, Corpus Christi, TX from 1988-1997, and Albuquerque, NM from 1997-2002. He was a retired mechanic and supervisor for Poole Well Service. He was an avid antique and classic car buff. Ron was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus.

Meldon T. "Pete" Petersen

Meldon T. (Pete) Petersen, 90, 3014 8th St., Columbus, died suddenly Tuesday July 2, 2002 at his home. Funeral services are 9: 30 am Saturday July 6 at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Rev. Michael V. Klatt officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home and on Saturday from 8: 30 am until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 9: 15 am Saturday, also at the church. Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa with Military Honors by Ballou Post #332 American Legion Honor Guard.

Mr. Petersen was born September 23, 1911 at Prairie Rose, Iowa, son of Christen and Botilda (Carstensen) Petersen. He grew up and graduated from high school at Elkhorn, Iowa, then attended business college in Omaha. Later, he worked at a lumberyard in Exira, Iowa. While there he met Adele Oldaker and they were married in Exira on February 26, 1939. In 1943, Mr. Petersen was drafted into the U. S. Navy and served at Bremerton (Washington) Naval Air Station from 1943 to 1945, when he was discharged. In 1948 Mr. and Mrs. Petersen moved to Norfolk when he became a salesman for Dutton-Lainson Company. In 1958 they moved to Columbus. He retired from Dutton-Lainson but continued to work part time in Columbus for many years.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Eagles.

He is survived by two daughters, Julie (Mickey) Hile of Frederick, Maryland, Mary Beth (Ernest) Pope of Southlake, Texas; five grandchildren, Keri Youngner of Grayslake, Illinois; Martin Hile of Lovettsville, Virginia; Michelle, Melissa, and Michael Pope of South Lake, Texas; and five great grandchildren, Seth and Tessa Youngner of Grayslake, Illinois, and Calli and Clark Hile of Lovettsville, Virginia.
His parents; his wife Adele; four brothers, Ivy, Ansel, Jethro, and Cortland; and one sister, Otellia, preceded Mr. Petersen in death.

Kay Sindelar

Kay Sindelar, age 57, of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday July 4, 2002 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Monday July 8, 2002 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with the Reverend Harold Kurtenbach and the Reverend Christopher Grimmond officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is 3: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Sunday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Monday from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Kay L. Sindelar was born April 6, 1945 in Hunter, North Dakota to Oscar J. and Helen (McClaflin) Korup. She graduated from Valley City High School in Valley, North Dakota in 1963. She moved to Columbus in 1964 where she has continued to live since. Kay was married to Larry Sindelar on September 28, 1968 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus, Nebraska. Along with raising her family Kay has worked for the past 14 years as a secretary for Judge Stenke in the Platte County District Court. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where she was a member and past president of St. Theresa Sodality.

Arthur T. "Art" Greisen

Arthur T. "Art" Greisen, age 78, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday July 7, 2002 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday July 10, 2002 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Greisen officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is after 6: 00 p.m. Tuesday with a 7: 30 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Isidore Church. Visitation continues on Wednesday from 9: 30 a.m. until service time at church.

Mr. Greisen was born April 8, 1924 in Platte Center, Nebraska to Hilger and Josephine (Wegner) Greisen. He married Rose Marie Pinger on September 10, 1947 in Lindsay, Nebraska. Art farmed with his father Hilger and brother Harry until 1985 when he retired and moved to Columbus. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church.

Jack J. Fajman

Jack J. Fajman, age 65, of Omaha formerly of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday July 9, 2002 at Beverly Health Care in Omaha. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday July 12, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Weisbecker officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation begins after 4: 00 p.m. Thursday with a 6: 30 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Bonaventure Church. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 9: 30 a.m. until service time also at the church.

Jack J. Fajman was born December 11, 1936 in Leigh, Nebraska to Lumir and LaVonne (Miller) Fajman. He attended school in Leigh, Nebraska. Jack served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 - 1957. He married Donna Camp on November 9, 1956. Jack worked in the trucking and auctioneering business all his life. In 1993 he moved to Omaha, Nebraska and later married Elizabeth Shotkoski on April 20, 1996.

Florence L. Kresha

Florence L. Kresha, 57, of Columbus, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. Services are at 10: 00 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with Rev. Christopher Grimmond officiating. Burial is at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be from 3: 00 p.m. - 5: 00 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home & after 6: 00 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil service. Visitation continues on Wednesday from 8: 00 a.m. - 9: 30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Florence L. Kresha was born February 17, 1945, in Genoa to Peter & Helen (Starostka) Kula. She grew up in Silver Creek and graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1963. Following high school she worked for Becton-Dickinson in Columbus. On May 4, 1968, she married Edwin Kresha at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. They moved to Columbus where she became a homemaker. After her husbands death in 1975, she worked in the Scotus Cafeteria and was later employed at Wal-Mart.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where she enjoyed doing volunteer church work, served as an EME, past president and secretary of St. Theresa Sodality, perpetual adoration, and was involved in the St. Isidore Youth Group. She was a cub scout leader and den mother, member of the Scotus Mothers Club, and the National School Food Service Association. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, baking, gardening, and visiting her children and granddaughter.

Derald D. "Sarge" Deckert

Derald D. "Sarge" Deckert, age 74 of Columbus, Nebraska, died Friday; July 5, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday; July 9, 2002 at the McKown Funeral Home. The Rev. William Effa will officiate. Burial with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard will be in the Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be Monday 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home and continue 9: 30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

Derald Duane Deckert was born September 13, 1927 in Tilden, Nebraska to Elmer and Mabel (Clark) Deckert. He married Ruth Shenshew on May 11, 1952 in Norfolk, Nebraska. He served in the US Army from 1946 until retiring in 1967 when he joined his family in Columbus, Nebraska. Sarge served during WWII, Korean and served two tours in Viet Nam. While in Columbus he worked for 15 years at Dale Electronics and 7 years at Little Bo's. He was a member of Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post #3704 in Columbus.

Duane Howard Farrar

Duane Howard Farrar, age 67, of Newman Grove, Nebraska died Saturday July 6, 2002 at his daughter's home in Columbus, Nebraska. A Private Family Service will be held at the Newman Grove Community Building in Newman Grove, Nebraska.

Duane Howard Farrar was born August 15, 1934 in Newman Grove, Nebraska to Howard and Agnes (Mrsny) Farrar. He attended Newman Grove Public School. He married Shirley Ellen Homan on April 30, 1957 in Schuyler, Nebraska. He lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin 5 years where he worked for Geuder, Peaushe and Frey and Norco Plastics. He then moved to Columbus and worked for Dale Electronics. He then moved back to Milwaukee for a short time and then returned to Columbus and worked for Behlen Manufacturing, Lindsay, Manufacturing and I.B.P. until retiring in 1994. Duane enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

Becky Sue Kush

Becky Sue Kush, age 43, of Monroe, Nebraska died Wednesday July 17, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday July 19, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Reverend Douglas Zurek officiating. Burial will be in the Gruetli Cemetery - rural Monroe, Nebraska. Visitation is 5: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. on Thursday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue on Friday morning from 10: 00 a.m. until service time at the church. A Family Prayer Service will be held 9: 30 a.m. Friday also at the church. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Becky Sue Kush was born October 8, 1958 in Columbus, Nebraska to Melvin K. and Donna M. (Simpkins) Heins. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1976 and received her LPN Degree from Platte College in 1977. She married Robert (Bob) E. Kush. The couple lived in Columbus several years before moving to Monroe. Becky worked as a nurse at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Ne. the Central City Nursing Home, Columbus Manor, and most recently at Morys Haven Nursing Home in Columbus. Becky passed away after a 2 year battle with cancer. She devoted her life to her nursing profession. Becky also enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, remodeling and collecting Santas and Angels.
