Eugene "Hec" Imhoff

Eugene "Hec" Imhoff, 89, of Columbus died Tuesday October 2 at the Columbus Manor. Funeral services are 1: 00 pm on Friday October 5 at McKown Funeral Home with Rev. Don Owen officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home and on Friday from 12 noon until service time. Burial will be in the Gruetli Cemetery in rural Monroe.

Eugene Imhoff was born on September 28, 1912 to William and Mary (Schneeberger) Imhoff in Duncan, NE. He was raised in Duncan and attended District 37 school. He farmed before going to work for Union Pacific Railroad. On December 28, 1968 he married Beulah Wolverton. He worked for the railroad for 31 years before retiring in 1974. He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ and the Platte County Historical Society. He loved to travel, collecting postcards, and he liked to read.

Jeremy Shank

Jeremy Shank, 22, of Columbus died Friday April 26, 2002 in Lincoln. Services are 10: 30 am Tuesday April 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. Visitation is on Monday from 5-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at the Church from 9: 30 until service time. There will be a family prayer service at 10: 15 am Tuesday at the Church. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Jeremy Shank was born July 17, 1979 in Aurora, NE to Tom & Pam (Zywiec) Shank. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1998 where he played football for the Discoverers. He received his Associates Degree from Central Community College-Platte Campus in 2000 where he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. He was a volunteer with the Head Start program where he enjoyed reading to children. He was currently a senior at Wayne St. College where he was majoring in Chemistry and Biology and served as a Teacher’s Assistant in the Chemistry department. He enjoyed athletics, camping (bonfires), hunting, and fishing. He loved martial arts and participated in Taekwondo for many years.

Grace Melliger

Grace L. Melliger, age 95 of Columbus died Wednesday; August 29, 2001at her home in Columbus.Funeral services are 1: 00 p.m. Tuesday; September 4, 2001at Grace Episcopal Church in Columbus. The Rev. Andrew Wright will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday 8: 00 am until 11: 00 am at the McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 12: 00 noon until service time at the Church. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery located in Albion, Nebraska. A lunch will be held prior to the burial at the church. All family and friends are invited.

Grace L. Melliger was born November 7, 1905 in Albion, Nebraska to Fred A. and Fanny (Thome) Field. She received her early education at rural Boone County Schools and graduated from Albion High School in 1925. She married Ray Kincanon in 1926. To this union one son was born. In 1943 she married George L. Lemon. George died in 1968. In June of 1977 she married Albert Melliger in David City, Nebraska. Albert died in 1984. Grace owned and operated the "Hut Cafe" in Albion for 5 years. Grace moved to Columbus in the early 1950's. She then owned the "Town Pump" in Columbus for 23 years until her retirement. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Columbus, Nebraska.

George R. Machacek, Jr.

George R. Machacek, Jr., 59, of Columbus died Tuesday February 12, 2002 at University Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services are 10: 30 am Friday at St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3-5 pm at McKown Funeral Home & after 6 pm at St. Isidore Church with a Vigil service beginning at 7: 30 pm. Visitation will continue Friday morning at the Church from 9: 30 am until service time. Burial will be in All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Columbus with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.

George was born January 1, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska to George and Lillian (Soukup) Machacek, Sr. He grew up in Omaha and graduated from Omaha Central High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1961 - 1965. George married Cindy Binkowski on May 3, 1965 in North Carolina. After his time in the service they moved to Omaha where he worked for Wayne Feeds. In 1974 he moved to Columbus and continued to work for Wayne Feeds until his retirement on August 15, 2001. He enjoyed travel, yard work and baseball. George was a member of St. Isidore Church, V.F.W. #3704 and Hartman Post #84 American Legion.

Elsie L. Martin

Elsie L. Martin, 52, of Hebron formerly of Columbus, died Sunday February 24, 2002 at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron. Funeral services are 10: 00 am Thursday February 28, 2002 at McKown Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Washington officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3-8 pm and on Thursday from 8 am until service time at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.

Elsie Martin was born November 3, 1949 in Columbus, Nebraska to Edgar and Tonie (Dietrich) Shockley. She grew up in Genoa, Nebraska where she attended school. Elsie married Jimmy Martin on August 3, 1974 in Columbus, Nebraska. She worked for Behlen Manufacturing for 21 years. Elsie enjoyed camping and animals.

Clara T. Micek

Clara T. Micek, 89, of Omaha died Saturday February 23, 2002 at Mercy Care Center in Omaha. Funeral services are 10: 00 pm Wednesday February 27, 2002 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks with the Rev. Don Cleary officiating. Visitation will after 5: 00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Church in Clarks with a Vigil service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9 am until service time at the Church. Burial will be in the Clarks Cemetery.

Clara T. Micek was born April 28, 1912 in Genoa, Nebraska to John S. and Josie (Klimek) Tomasiewicz. She attended Nance County School. On November 15, 1937 Clara was united in marriage to Frank Micek at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church - Krakow, rural Genoa. The couple lived and farmed north of Clarks until Frank's death on August 15, 1961. Clara moved to Omaha for a short time before returning to Clarks where she was the housekeeper for Fr. John Korus. In 1965 she moved back to Omaha where she has resided since. While living in Omaha she was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, gardening, and her family.

Edra Mikkelsen

Edra Mikkelsen, age 86 of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday; March 10, 2002 at her home in Coumbus. Funeral services are 2: 00 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. The Rev. Gary Main will officiate. Visitation will be from1: 00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be 2: 00 p.m. Thursday at the Danbury-Marion Cemetery in Danbury, Nebraska.

Edra Mikkelsen was born July 19, 1915 in Danbury, Nebraska to Ralph "R.C." and Irene (Ruby) Boyer. She received her education in Danbury where she graduated from Danbury High School. While in high school she was a member of the National Honor Society. Edra received a Regents Scholarship to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She later received her bachelors degree from Chadron State and her masters in education from the University of South Dakota. She married Delno "Pete" Davis in 1933 in Nebraska. She worked as a teacher in several public school systems including Hays Center, Niobrara, and Pierce. While teaching she lived in many locations including Tilden and Crofton. Her husband Pete died in 1975. On January 18, 1981 she married Rev. John Mikkelsen in Lincoln, Nebraska. Edra traveled extensively. During her travels she taught at many locations including teaching English at the University of Moscow. For the past 20 years she has lived in Columbus. For many years she taught Sunday school, bible study and youth groups in the United Methodist Church. She was very active in youth ministerial camping and served on the Methodist Camp Council. Edra was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus where she was active in the Keystone Group and the Friendship Circle. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she has served as Worthy Matron and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Dennis R. Kennedy

Dennis R. Kennedy, 58, of Columbus died Saturday September 8, 2001 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 am on Wednesday, September 12 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation will be after 5: 00 pm on Tuesday at St. Anthony's with a Vigil service to follow at 7: 00 pm. Visitation will continue from 8: 00-10: 00 am on Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery in Columbus.

Dennis R. Kennedy was born January 23, 1943 in Worcester, Mass. to David and Louise (Donahue) Kennedy. He attended schools there and graduated from South High. After serving in the U.S. Navy he attended Peru State College where he graduated in 1967. On April 6, 1968 Dennis was united in marriage to Lana Tracy in Omaha. He worked for Associate Finance Company in Omaha before going to the Otoe County National Bank in Nebraska City and First Security Bank of Holdrege. In 1984 Dennis joined First Nebraska Bank in Columbus serving as CEO of the First Nebraska Bank Systems. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, served on the Church Finance Council, Elks Club, Hartman Post #84 American Legion, Chamber of Commerce and served on the Columbus YMCA Board of Directors. Dennis enjoyed golfing, tennis and was a very good card player.

Memorials are directed to ARC of Platte County, People First of Nebraska, or to the Rainbow Center of Columbus.
