Mary Ellen Kobus

Mary Ellen Kobus, age 74, of Columbus died Wednesday; September 11, 2002 at her home in Columbus. Funeral services are Saturday; September 14, 2002 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. The Rev. Christopher Grimmond will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday after 4: 00 p.m. at the Church. A Vigil will be held at 7: 00 p.m. Friday also at the church. Visitation will continue Saturday morning 9: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. at the church.

Mary Ellen Kobus was born September 14, 1927 in Beatrice, Nebraska to Oville and Mary (Brandt) Peters. She graduated from Diller High School in 1943. On April 24, 1947 she married Joseph Kobus in Fairbury, NE. She moved to Columbus where she worked as a dental assistant. She has lived in Columbus ever since. Along with raising her family she also worked at Becton-Dickinson and Tooley Card and Gift. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Stanley A. Paprocki

Stanley A. Paprocki, 73, of Columbus died Monday, September 30, 2002 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Services are 10: 30 am Thursday at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday after 5 pm at St. Isidore Catholic Church with a vigil service to begin at 7 pm., also at the church. Visitation will continue on Thursday morning from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the donors choice.

Stanley A. Paprocki was born January 21, 1929 in Tarnov to Stanley and Mary (Gourka) Paprocki. He grew up in Tarnov where he attended St. Michael's Grade School and he graduated from St. Francis High School in Humphrey. On May 8, 1951 he married Colette Zach at St. Mary's Church in rural Humphrey. He farmed until 1967. He moved to Columbus where he worked for D & L until his retirement. Stanley was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church where he served as an usher and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus-St. Isidore Council & the Nebraska Horseshoe Pitching Association. He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, fishing, his grandchildren, and making various metal sculptures.

Sophie C. Ptacek

Sophie C. Ptacek, age 81 of Columbus, died Sunday; September 8, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Thursday; September 12, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Miksch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation is 4: 00 p.m. - 9: 00 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 4: 00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 8: 00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Thursday morning 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Sophie C. Ptacek was born November 22, 1920 near Brainard, Nebraska to Anton and Matilda (Sedlak) Navratil. She grew up in the Brainard area. On November 17, 1941 she was united in marriage to Vladimir J. Ptacek at Holy Trinity Church in Brainard. The couple lived and farmed west of Bruno until moving to Columbus in 1967. Sophie was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church and the St. Bonaventure Guild. She enjoyed traveling and her family.

Dolores "DeDe" Zoucha

Dolores "DeDe" Zoucha, 68, of Columbus died Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at Beverly Health Care. Services are 9: 00 am Saturday, September 14, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Friday after 4 pm at McKown Funeral Home. There will be a rosary at 4 pm & a vigil service at 7 pm Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 8-8: 30 am, also at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

DeDe was born September 21, 1933 in Columbus, Nebraska to George and Mary (Sliva) Zoucha. She attended country schools and St. Anthony School. She worked at Woolworth's and at Becton-Dickinson for 36 years. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Ladies Guild, Perpetual Adoration, Prayer Line, Hospital volunteer and Red Cross volunteer. She enjoyed painting, reading, crocheting and flowers.

Thomas V. Schmidt

Thomas V. Schmidt, age 64, of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday September 28, 2002 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday October 2, 2002 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial will be in the Ss. Patrick & Joseph Cemetery near Platte Center, Nebraska. Visitation is after 5: 00 p.m. Tuesday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Isidore Church. Visitation continues Wednesday from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Donors Choice.

Thomas V. Schmidt was born February 8, 1938 in Platte County, Nebraska to Otto and Loretta (Beller) Schmidt. He attended District School in Platte County. On August 22, 1964 he was united in marriage to Patricia Hoelscher at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Tom farmed west of Tarnov until present. The couple moved off the farm to Columbus in 1999. Since moving to Columbus he also worked part time for MARC. Tom was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Michael's church choir, and past president of Husker Co-Op. He loved collecting John Deere antique tractors, bowling, traveling, and camping.

Frank Stachura

Frank E. Stachura, 69, of Columbus died Wednesday August 29, 2001 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 9: 30 am on Saturday September 1 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation will be on Friday after 3 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a vigil service at 7: 30 pm at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8-9 am at McKown Funeral Home. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post # 84 American Legion Honor Guard. A lunch will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Frank Emanuel Stachura was born April 4, 1932 on the family farm near Duncan, Nebraska to Emanuel and Caroline (Sock) Stachura. He married Julia E. Yrkoski on September 22, 1954 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church-Krakow. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving in the Military Police. He worked in shoe sales and repair for 25 years. He later worked in school maintenance at Platte College and Scotus High School until retiring. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3704 and St. Isidore Catholic Church. Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, World War II history, traveling and wintering in Texas.

Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Thursday January 3, 2002 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Nebraska with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation is from 3: 00 p.m. - 5: 00 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6: 00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Church. A Vigil Service will be held 7: 00 p.m. Wednesday at the Church. Visitation will continue Thursday morning from 8: 30 a.m. until service time at the Church.
