Rose Ann Tuma

Rose Ann Tuma, age 92, of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday August 25, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday August 29, 2001 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial is in the St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation is Tuesday after 3: 00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7: 00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Rose Ann Tuma was born August 18, 1909 in Clarkson, Nebraska to Edward and Katherine (Patava) Loukota. She graduated from Clarkson High School in 1928. On September 8, 1930 Rose was united in marriage to Jerry Frank Tuma in Schuyler, Nebraska. The couple lived in Colfax County until moving to Octavia in 1948. They also lived in Madison, Nebraska for 3 years until 1965 when they moved to Columbus. Rose was a homemaker and worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Columbus as an aid for 9 years. She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Workman.

She is survived by:

Son : Gerald (Bernadette) Tuma of Schuyler, NE
Son : Ronald (Rita) Tuma of Columbus, NE

Charles J. Stack

Charles J. Stack, 66, of Columbus died Saturday, December 29, 2001 at his home. Memorial Services are 11: 00 am Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus with the Rev. Mike Neely officiating.

Charles J. Stack was born March 21, 1935 in Butte, Montana to Charles H. and Ione (Craver) Stack. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Montana College and his Master of Education Degree from the University of Montana. On April 30, 1960 Charles was united in marriage to Donna White at Butte, Montana. He lived in Omaha for 20 years before moving to Columbus in 1996. Charles was Manager of Organizational Effectiveness & Change Management for Nebraska Public Power District in Columbus. He was a member of Highland Park Evangelical Free Church and active in Promise Keepers. He was a board member for the Boy's Club, Children U.S.A. board member & active with School Booster Clubs. MERYL A. POTTS

Meryl A. Potts, 88, of Columbus died Saturday, December 8, 2001 at the Columbus Manor. Funeral services are 10: 30 am Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Visitation is on Tuesday from 4-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home and continues on Wednesday from 9: 30 am until service time at the church. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.

Meryl was born June 11, 1913 in Newman Grove, Nebraska to Bertel and Agnes (Duhachek) Nelson. She received her education in Newman Grove. Following her education she moved with her family to California. On December 7, 1937 she married Ralph Potts in Yuma, Arizona. She and Ralph continued living in the Los Angeles area until 1947 when they returned to the Tilden, Nebraska area. In 1957 they moved to Columbus where they lived for many years before moving to Arizona for 5 years. In the early 1990's they returned to Columbus where she has lived since. Along with raising her family, Meryl worked for 12 years at Dale Electronics. She was also a hostess for many years at Louie's Restaurant in Columbus. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. She belonged to the Western Guild Circle and delivered Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and gardening.

Sarah "Sally" A. Ogden

Sarah "Sally" A. Ogden, age 56, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday December 26, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday December 28, 2001 at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with Reverend Gary Main officiating. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is from 8: 30 a.m. until service time Friday at McKown Funeral Home.

Sally was born March 25, 1945 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Ira and Alice (Ford) Talbot. She was raised in Norfolk, Nebraska. She received her education at Norfolk High School. She maried Raymond Ogden on November 8, 1962 in Madison, Nebraska. Along with running a day care center she also worked at Dale Electronics.

Chester D. Snow

Chester D. Snow, age 83 of Tilden, Nebraska formerly of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday December 8, 2001 at Beverly Health Care in Tilden. Graveside Services will be held 11: 00 a.m. Wednesday at the Tekamah Cemetery in Tekamah, Nebraska. Services will be performed by Reverend Harun Gatobu and the Tekamah Masonic Lodge.

Chester D. Snow was born January 28, 1918 in Competition, Missouri to Pleas and Margaret (Finley) Snow. He graduated from Tekamah High School in Tekamah, Nebraska. On August 1, 1938 he was united in marriage to Arlene Elliott in Logan, Iowa. The couple lived in farmed in Tekamah until moving to Columbus in 1965 where Chester worked for Behlen Manufacturing. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

His is survived by:

Eva Catherine Shirey

Eva Catherine Shirey, 95, of Columbus died Thursday, December 20 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Friday December 28 at St. John the Baptist Church in New Haven, IN. Visitation will be on Sunday December 23 from 2-6 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a vigil service set for 4 pm with Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in New Haven.

Eva was born January 24, 1906 in St. Mary's, Nebraska to Charles and Catherine (Haferland) Magsamen. She grew up in Pierce and worked at the Immaculata Monastery in Norfolk. In 1937 she married Elmer Shirey. The couple lived in Fort Wayne, IN where she was a homemaker. After her husband retired they moved to Wildwood, Fl where she lived for 42 years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wildwood. She was a past member of Barracks 3426 Women's Auxiliary, Wildwood Homemakers Club, Wildwood Garden Club, and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Women's Council.

Survivors include one sister, Catherine Herchenbach of Columbus and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, seven brothers, and four sisters.

Memorials are suggested to St. Isidore Church or St. Vincent de Paul Church in Wildwood, Fl.

Patrick Martin

Patrick Martin, 94 of Columbus, formerly of Gothenburg, died Saturday November 24 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus. Funeral services are 10: 30 am on Wednesday at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation will begin on Tuesday after 4 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a Vigil service at 7: 30 pm. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning at St. Isidore Church from 9: 30 am until service time. Burial will be in All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.

Patrick E. Martin was born January 16, 1907 in Belgrade, NE to John Edward & Catherine (Walsh) Martin. He married Ida Jane Jeannette Crockett on September 18, 1933 in St. Paul, NE. He worked on Kingsley Dam while living in Sutherland before moving to Gothenburg where he worked on the Tri-County Canal as a mechanic on the huge Monighan drag line. He later worked for the Hailey Chevrolet dealership in Gothenburg for many years as the shop foreman. He served as a policeman in Gothenburg before working many years at Monroe Auto Equipment Co. in Cozad until his retirement. He was a very active and enthusiastic trap shooter, winning over 90 trophies. He was a registered gunsmith and restored guns for many years. He was a member of the Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Gothenburg and St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Memorials are directed to the donors choice.

Louis Maca

Louis Maca, age 64, of Columbus died Tuesday November 6, 2001 in Pacific Junction, Iowa. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday; November 9, 2001 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, Nebraska. The Rev. Christopher Grimmond will officiate. Burial will be in the All Saints Cemetery located in Columbus, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday 3-5 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home and after 6: 00 p.m. at the St. Anthony Catholic Church. A Vigil will be held at 7: 00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Church. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 8-10 a.m. at the McKown Funeral Home.

Louis F. Maca was born March 3, 1937 in Columbus, Nebraska to Louis and Tillie (Svoboda) Maca. On February 21, 1955 he married Irene Hughes at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Imogene, Iowa. He was an independent truck driver and has lived in Columbus since 1973. Louis was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Eagles Club, and the N.R.A.

Hildegarde "Hodgie" Odgaard

Hildegarde "Hodgie" Odgaard, age 84, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday November 30, 2001 at her home. Services 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday December 4, 2001 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Monday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Hildegarde P. "Hodgie" Odgaard was born August 23, 1917 in David City, Nebraska to John and Mary (Sabata) Theewen. She graduated from Dwight Assumption High School. On June 28, 1942 she was united in marriage to Medrick C. "Odie" Odgaard in Santa Barbara, California. The couple spent most of their lives in Columbus where they owned and operated several businesses including the Columbian Bar, Keen Korner Restaurant and Lounge, J & M Bar, and the Tip Top Bar. She retired in 1995. Hodgie was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, DAV Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a devoted wife and mother.
