Emilia B. Micek

Emilia B. Micek, 88, of Columbus formerly of Duncan, died Monday November 12, 2001 at the Columbus Manor. Funeral services are 10: 30 am on Thursday November 15 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan with the Rev. Dave Korth officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3-5 pm at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6 pm at St. Stanislaus Church in Duncan. There will be a Vigil service at 7: 30 pm Wednesday at the church. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9 am until service time at the church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Duncan.

Emilia was born November 9, 1913 in Platte County, Nebraska to John and Mary (Maslonka) Slusarski. She received her education at St Stanislaus Grade School and District 16 Country School. She lived in Platte County all her life and married Alphons Micek October 24, 1937 in Duncan, NE. She raised a family and worked as head cook for the lunch program for St. Stanislaus School. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, St Anns Sodality, Franciscan Order-3rd Order of St. Francis, and Legion of Mary. Memorials may be directed to the donors choice.

Malinda Sue Tucker

Malinda Sue (Frewing) Tucker, age 34, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday November 14, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. Funeral services are 2: 00 pm on Monday at the Bible Baptist Church in Columbus with the Reverend Frank Koch officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-7 pm and on Monday from 8-12 noon at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 1 pm until service time at the Bible Baptist Church. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Tucker was born June 9, 1967, in Columbus to Arthur and Ann (Crunk) Frewing. She was their third child.

She attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Columbus High School in 1985. She began working at NPPD during her senior year and worked there about two years. She married Tim Tucker, of Columbus, on June 8, 1986 at the Bible Baptist Church. They have eight children.

She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for three years. She played the viola and sang for church. She made beautiful plaques for anyone sick or who had lost a loved one. She was a devoted mother and always found time to help others. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.

She is survived by her husband, Tim Tucker; eight children, Jeremy, 14, Richard, 9, Roy, 5, Daniel John, newborn, Joanna, 13, Dorothy, 11, Melody, 4, Laura, 1 1/2; her parents of Bellwood; three brothers, Arthur Jr. and Stanley both of Columbus and Albert of Norfolk; two sisters, MaryAnn (Mrs. Ricky) Anderson and Margaret (Mrs. Robert) Walker both of Columbus.

Lyle Soden

Lyle Soden, 72, of Columbus died Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at his home in Columbus. Services are 10: 30 am on Saturday, November 24 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. The family will receive friends 9: 30 am until service time Saturday at the Church.

Lyle L. Soden was born December 19, 1928 in Wisner, Nebraska to Malcolm and Alice (Milligan) Soden. He graduated from Wisner High School in 1948. Lyle served in the United States Navy from May 30, 1946 until March 30, 1948. He married Velma Smith on April 8, 1951. Lyle worked over 30 years as an insurance salesman. He married Vicki Hash on May 21, 1971 in Columbus, Nebraska. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Lyle was an avid woodworker.

Lyle is survived by his wife Vicki of Columbus, two daughters; Gina (Dave) Czapla of Columbus, Michelle (Russell) Sims of Columbus, a son, James C. (Kim) Soden of Kearney, a step-daughter Wendy (Dave) Ohnoutka of Lincoln, one sister, Wauneta (Walt) Schmidt of Lincoln, 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

Lyle is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.

Gerald E. Loeffler

Gerald E. Loeffler, 80, of Platte Center died Thursday October 18 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 am Tuesday October 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center with the Rev. Rod Kneifl officiating. Visitation is from 3-5 pm on Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6 pm Monday at St. Joseph Church in Platte Center. There will be a Vigil service Monday evening at 7 pm at St. Joseph's. Burial will be in Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery.

Gerald E. Loeffler was born Feb 21, 1921 in Lindsay, NE to Henry and Mary (Schuele) Loeffler. He was raised in the Lindsay area and attended schools in St. Bernard. He married Constance "Connie" A. Dohmen on April 11, 1944 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay. He farmed until 1957 before moving to Illinois where he worked for several years before returning to the Platte Center area where he owned and operated Midway Construction. Gerald was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center, the Knights of Columbus, and was the Township Treasurer for 12 years. He enjoyed travel, fishing, and playing cards. Memorials can be made to the donors choice.

Cynthia "Cindy" Jo Weverka

Cynthia "Cindy" Jo Weverka, 44, of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday September 8, 2001 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 am Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with Reverend Gary Main officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 4: 00-8: 00 pm and Tuesday morning from 8: 00 am until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.

Cynthia Jo Weverka was born November 3, 1956 in Ord to Elmer and Lorrena (Gydesen) Weverka. When she was 5 her family moved to Columbus where she attended Highland Park School. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1975. She started work at the Y-Knot Cafe and then worked for a short time at D & L before working for Becton-Dickinson for the past 20 years. Cindy enjoyed reading romance novels and being with her family.

Bernard Stachura

Bernard F. Stachura, 89, of Columbus died Saturday September 22 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 am on Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan with the Rev. Dave Korth officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with a Vigil service beginning at 7 pm at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Church from 9: 30 am until service time. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Bernard F. Stachura was born June 2, 1912 in Polk County Nebraska to Stanley & Mary (Cuba) Stachura. Bernard lived his entire life on the family farm in Polk County, Nebraska where he was engaged in farming until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, and the outdoors. He was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Nebraska.

Bernard is survived by his sister Catherine Stachura of rural Columbus.

Raymond Prouty

Raymond A. Prouty, 92, of Lincoln formerly of Columbus, died Tuesday September 25 at the Lancaster Manor in Lincoln. Funeral services are 10: 00 am on Friday September 28 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home and continues on Friday from 9: 00 am until service time at the Methodist Church. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.

Ray A. Prouty was born January 19, 1909 in Holt County to Harry and Nelly (Hendricks) Prouty. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1928 then went on to attend Wesleyan University in Lincoln where he sang in the mens chorus. Ray traveled to the Great Lakes area following college where he preached and sold Bibles. On December 24, 1934 he married Ruth Crowley at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Ray worked for 3 years at a lumberyard in Rock Rapids, Iowa before joining the Champlin Petroleum Company where he later served as manager of the Champlin Pipeline Terminal in Richland. He came to Columbus in 1955 and retired in 1971. He designed and built his home at Duncan Lakes. After his wife's death in 1982, he moved into Columbus Place apartments where he started and teamed with another resident to write a newspaper for the complex called the Advocate. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the Memorial Committee and was the sunday school superintendent and was active in the Columbus Noon Lions Club where he was past President and 40+ year member.

Dennis Pytel

Dennis Pytel, age 86, of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday April 27, 2002 at Mory's Haven in Columbus. Funeral Services are 10: 00 a.m. Friday; May 3, 2002 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Rev. Christopher Grimmond will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday 5-8 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home with a 7: 30 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 8: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be at the St. Michaels Cemetery in Tarnov with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.

Dennis Pytel was born September 2, 1915 in Tarnov, Nebraska to Stanley and Sophia (Gdowski). He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942 - 1945. Following his discharge Dennis lived in Omaha doing construction jobs for 18 years before moving to Columbus where he did various jobs. He was a member of St. Anthony Church, Holy Name, and V.F.W. #3704. Dennis enjoyed fishing and baseball.

Clara Krings

Clara Krings, age 97, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday December 3, 2002 at the Countryside Home in Madison, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday December 6, 2002 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial is in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Thursday with an 8: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Friday morning from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Clara Krings was born August 14, 1905 in Platte Center, Nebraska to John and Emma (Schroeder) Gronenthal.. She atttended St. Anthony Parochial School rural Platte Center. She was married to Edward Krings on June 17, 1930 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center, Nebraska. The couple lived on a farm near Humphrey until 1947 when they moved to Platte Center where they continued to farm until retiring and moving to Columbus in 1966. Her husband Ed passed away May 2, 1993. Since 1998 Clara had lived with her children until August 2001 when she moved to the Countryside Home in Madison.

She is survived by:

Edward Carl Sempek

Edward Carl Sempek, age 76, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday December 2, 2002 at his home. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Thursday December 5, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Weisbecker officiating. Burial is in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation is 3: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Wednesday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. Thursday also at the funeral home.

Edward Carl Sempek was born January 3, 1926 in Humphrey, Nebraska to Carl and Theodosia H. (Micek) Sempek. He attended District #42 School in Platte County and helped on the family farm. On April 25, 1950 he married Genevieve M. Laska at St. John's in rural Lindsay. He farmed in the Lindsay, Monroe, and Columbus area until 1974. Edward worked for the Platte County Highway Department from 1976 until retiring in 1988. He enjoyed attending antique farm machinery and tractor shows, gardening and flowers, and spending time with his granddaughter Angela. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church.
