Clifford R. Tichota

Clifford R. Tichota, 45, of Columbus died Sunday, December 1, 2002 at Creighton University Medical Center. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-5 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home.

Clifford R. Tichota was born May 8, 1957 in Schuyler, Nebraska to Bohumila and Ruth (Bauman) Tichota. He received his education in Leigh area rural schools and Columbus Public Schools. He previously worked at Behlen Manufacturing and at D & L.

David G. Brandl, Sr.

David G. Brandl, Sr. died Sunday, November 17, 2002 at his home in Columbus. Funeral services are 10: 30 am Wednesday, November 20 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation will be after 4 pm on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning from 8-10 at McKown Funeral Home. There will be a Vigil service on Tuesday at 7: 00 pm at McKown Funeral Home. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.

David G. Brandl, Sr. was born May 5, 1928 in Cornlea, Nebraska to Joe and Mercedes (Deegan) Brandl. He grew up in the Cornlea & Humphrey area and attended school in Cornlea and Humphrey High. He served in the U.S. National Guard from 1949 - 1952. On May 31, 1951 David was united in marriage to Darlene Hecker in Columbus, Nebraska. The couple lived and farmed north of Monroe for 50 years until retiring and moving to Columbus in 1996. David was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and previously served with the Civil Defense. His hobbies included C. B. radios, fishing and spending time with his family.

Jeffrey B. Bargen

Jeff Bargen, 30, died Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at his home in Columbus following a lifetime battle with Cystic Fibrosis, a lung disease. Funeral services are 10: 30 am Friday, November 15 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Rev. Dave Korth officiating. Visitation will begin on Thursday after 5 pm at St. Bonaventure Church with a Vigil service at 7 pm at the church. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Jeff Bargen Scholarship Fund, St. Bonaventure Church, or the donor's choice.

Jeffrey B. Bargen was born November 25, 1971 in Seward, Nebraska to Denny and Jody (Krueger) Bargen. He was diagnosed early with Cystic Fibrosis, a lung disease. Jeff attended West Park, St. Isidore & St. Bonaventure Elementary Schools in Columbus and graduated from Columbus Scotus Catholic High School in 1990. While in high school he participated in basketball, golf, Scotus Athletic Letterman's Club, and was a Scotus Royalty Candidate. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated from the College of Business Administration with a Degree in Finance. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity at the University of Nebraska. Jeff's hobbies and interests included watching various sporting events on television, golfing, snow skiing, computers, music, and driving sports cars. On November 7, 1999 he received a double lung transplant at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. Jeff was employed at Financial Design in Columbus.

Eva H. Anderson

Eva H. Anderson, age 100, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday November 24, 2002 at the Beverly Health Care in Columbus. A Memorial Service will be held 10: 00 a.m. Saturday November 30, 2002 at McKown Funeral Chapel in Columbus with Dr. Norman Anderson and Dr. Howard Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Grand Island, Nebraska. Memorials may be directed to the Gideons.

Eva H. Anderson was born February 8, 1902 in Chicago, Illinois to Mike and Eva Husle. She received her education in Chicago. She was married to Theodore G. Anderson in 1921 in Chicago. She lived for many years in Florida before moving to Columbus in 1974. Eva was known in Columbus for helping others with their shopping and could be seen riding her 3-wheeled bike around town. She was a member of the Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus.

She is survived by:

Erna Rose Badstieber

Erna Rose Badstieber, 91, died Friday, November 22, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 9: 00 am Saturday, November 23 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Weisbecker officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday at McKown Funeral Home and on Saturday morning from 8-8: 30 am. There will be a Rosary at 4 pm Friday and a Vigil service at 7 pm Friday, both at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Platte Valley Humane Society, St. Bonaventure Endowment Fund, or the donors choice.

Erna Rose Badstieber was born August 20, 1911 to George and Mathilda (Schleifer) Rambour Sr.. She was raised in Platte County. Erna graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1929. She married Albert Badstieber on October 2, 1946 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Erna worked writing ads for a local radio station. She also worked for Columbus Brewing Company and volunteered for the Platte Valley Humane Society for over 20 years.
Albert Badstieber died March 11, 1959.
Erna is a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Franciscan Missionary Union, Christian Guild, Platte Valley Humane Society and Platte County Historical Society.

She is survived by:

William W. Sprunk, Jr.

William W. Sprunk, Jr., 81, of Platte Center died Monday, October 21, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 00 am Thursday, October 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center with the Rev. Rod Kneifl officiating. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 3-5 pm at McKown Funeral Home and continue after 6 pm at St. Joseph Church in Platte Center with a Vigil service at 7: 30 pm, . also at the church. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9 am until service time at the church. Interment will be in Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery in Rural Platte Center.

William W. Sprunk was born December 13, 1920 in Platte County, Nebraska to William and Clare (Beierle) Sprunk. He attended Platte County District #3. He farmed with his father before entering the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the Pacific Theatre. He was united in marriage to Betty Jazwick on October 4, 1942 in Dotham, Alabama. Upon his discharge in 1945 he returned to Platte Center where he farmed until retiring. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center where he served as as Usher and Church Trustee and was also a member of Parry Post #283 American Legion in Platte Center. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his grandchildren, and spending time with his family.

Marcel F. "Sport" Liebig

Marcel F. "Sport" Liebig, age 73, of Platte Center, Nebraska died Sunday November 17, 2002 at his home. Funeral Services are 10: 00 a.m. Wednesday November 20, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center with Reverend Rod Kneifl officiating. Burial will be in the Ss. Patrick/Joseph Center near Platte Center with military honors by Parry Post #283 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be 2: 00 - 4: 00 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 5: 30 p.m. with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Joseph Church in Platte Center. Visitation continues from 9: 00 a.m. until service time Wednesday also at the church.

Marcel "Sport" Liebig was born December 3, 1928 in Platte Center, Nebraska to Adolph and Mary (Schumacher) Liebig. He graduated from Platte Center High School in 1947. He entered the United States Air Force in 1951 and served during the Korean War until 1955. He was married to Viola Purchal on August 5, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center, Nebraska. They lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Sterling, Colorado where he worked in the oil fields. They then returned to the family farm in Platte Center and farmed. In 1963 they began operating Liebig Meat Processing which he has continued to help operate with his family. Marcel was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, church usher, past member of the Platte Center District #25 School Board, life member of the American Vets, American Legion and the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He will always be remembered by his family as a man of Faith and Integrity.

Dora M. Wilbur

Dora M. Wilbur, age 88 of Columbus, formerly of Silver Creek, Nebraska died Monday November 25, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek. The Reverend Bev Minor will officiate. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Tuesday at the McKown Funeral Home in Silver Creek. Visitation will continue 9: 30 am until service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery.

Dora M. Wilbur was born July 14, 1914 in Platte County, Nebraska to Phillip and Margaret (Leith) Mason. Dora attended schools in Platte County. She moved to Silver Creek in 1927. On November 13, 1945 Dora married Raymond G. Wilbur United Methodist Church in Silver Creek. She belonged to the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek since 1931. She also belonged to the Senior Citizens Club in Silver Creek. After moving to Columbus she joined the First United Methodist Church in Columbus.

Dora is survived by her sister in law Florence Mason of Fremont, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband

Justine Jacobitz

Justine Jacobitz, age 87, of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday November 23, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10: 30 am Tuesday, November 26 at McKown Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 6-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 9 am until service time. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.

Justine "Teen" Mae Jacobitz was born June 8, 1915 in Superior, Nebraska to Bert & Winona (Rhoads) Bricka. She graduated from Superior High School. On February 15, 1942 she married Melvin Emil Jacobitz in Mankato, KS. Justine lived in Superior, Freeport, KS, and had resided in Columbus for the past 47 years. In her early years she sang with a trio in Cuba, KS and also with Lawrence Welk. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for 43 years where she was a past-president, the First United Methodist Church, and enjoyed playing cards and card club.

She is survived by:
