Darold B. "Ole" Olson

Darold B. "Ole" Olson, age 77, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday October 18, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday October 22, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be 3: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Monday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to donors choice.

Darold B. Olson was born May 14, 1925 in Columbus, Nebraska to Emil and Anna (Borchers) Olson. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1943. Darold served as a Radio Man 2nd Class in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII from August 1943 to April 1946. He married Florence M. Mimick on October 26, 1948 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Darold worked at Becton-Dickinson for 31 years from June 1954 to June 1985 when he retired. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus #938, Perpetual Adoration, Hartman Post #84 American Legion, D.A.V., Red Cross and the Becton-Dickinson Alumni Association.

Eugene Bernt

Eugene Bernt of Columbus died Saturday October 26, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Services are10: 30 a.m. Tuesday; October 29, 2002 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph A. Miksch will officiate. Burial with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home. A vigil will be held at 7: 00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning 8: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Eugene A. Bernt was born November 7, 1917 in Polk County, Nebraska to Albert and Hilda (Zeleny) Bernt. He received his education at Polk County District #68. In 1941 Eugene entered the U.S. Army and served during WWII until 1946 when he returned home. Eugene was united in marriage to Helen Miksch on April 8, 1947 in Platte Center, Nebraska. He farmed in Platte County for over fifty years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church where he had served on the Parish Council, and was a member of Holy Name Society and a Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. Eugene served on the District #3 School Board for 12 years and was a 4-H leader for 15 years.

Joseph Mick

Joseph Mick, 95, of Bellwood, Nebraska died Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at Columbus Manor/Beverly Healthcare. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday October 25, 2002 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood with Reverend Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial is in the Presentation Cemetery - rural Bellwood. Visitation is 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Thursday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 9: 30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Joseph F. Mick was born September 19, 1907 to Joseph and Minnie (Sprunk) Mick. He attended rural Butler County School. He was the 3rd Generation of the first settlers of the Alexis Township in Butler County. He married Lydia Gabel, January 7, 1931 at Sacred Heart Church in Shelby. They were married for 46 years before Lydia passed away on September 30, 1977. He later married Leona Janicek November 10, 1978 at St. Joseph Church in Rural Bellwood. Leona passed away August 2, 1987.

Joseph was a lifelong farmer and cattle feeder. He enjoyed his family, fishing, gardening and working with diamond willow furniture. He also enjoyed attending cattle auctions and days at Columbus Sales Pavillion where he loved the fellowship of the other cattle buyers. Joseph was a member of St. Peter's Church and St. Joseph Church in Bellwood.

Helen B. Kwiatkowski

Helen B. Kwiatkowski, 86, of Columbus died Sunday, October 27, 2002 at Columbus Manor. There will be a Memorial Mass at 10: 00 am Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Miksch officiating. The Recitation of the Rosary will be at 9: 30 am on Wednesday at the church. There is no visitation.

Helen B. Kwiatkowski was born July 17, 1916 in Nance County to Frank & Balbina (Tarnick) Podraza. She was raised in Nance County and attended District 32 school. In May of 1954 she married Sigmund Kwiatkowski at St. Peter's Church in Fullerton. They lived in Omaha before she moved to Fullerton to take care of her parents. Helen moved to Columbus where she worked as a cook at the Avenue Bar. She was a member of St. Isidore's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by a sister, Frances Jarecke.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one sister Emma Mekosh.

Dorothy Greer

Dorothy Greer, 78, of Duncan died Sunday, December 15, 2002 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Funeral services are 11: 00 am Wednesday, December 18 at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation is on Tuesday evening from 7-9 pm at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Wednesday morning from 10: 00 am until service time. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.

Dorothy Greer was born March 13, 1924 in Fullerton, Nebraska to Pete and Helen (Urkoski) Liss. She received her education in Fullerton, NE, Silver Creek, NE and St. Bonaventure School in Columbus, Nebraska. She married Clarence Greer in 1943. They lived in Whibey Island, Washington; Pensacola, Florida and Eugene, Oregon during his Navy career. After Clarence's death Dorothy moved to Duncan, Nebraska in the 70's. She enjoyed her animals, gardening and homemaking.

David A. Janky

David A. Janky, 54, of Columbus died Monday; December 30, 2002 at his home. Services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday; January 3, 2003 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. The Rev. Mark Bridgman will officiate. Graveside services will be at 1: 30 pm Friday in the Ss. Peter/Mary/Presentation Cemetery-rural Bellwood. Visitation will be after 5: 00 p.m. Thursday at the church. A vigil will be held on Thursday evening at 7: 00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue Friday morning 9: 30 a.m. until service time, all at the church.

David A. Janky was born November 16, 1948 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Albin A. and Dorothy (Nozicka) Janky. He grew up in the Bellwood area. He attended St. Anthony in Columbus and graduated from Scotus Central Catholic High School in 1967. He then attended and graduated from The University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1971 with a degree in mechanized agriculture. He went to work for Fleischer Manufacturing and later worked for Beverly Health Care, both in Columbus. On September 10, 1983 he was married to Debra Zavodsky at St. Joseph Catholic Church in rural Bellwood. He had been active in Junior Achievement, Optimist Club, and St. Bonaventure Church where he served as an usher. He enjoyed sports.

Harold Sebastian Weiland

Harold Sebastian Weiland, age 70, of Columbus died Sunday; December 22, 2002 at his home after a 3 year battle with lung cancer. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday; December 27, 2002 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard will be in the All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home and after 6: 00 p.m. at St. Isidore Church. A vigil will be held Thursday at 7: 00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue Friday morning 9: 30-10: 30 a.m. at St. Isidore Church.

Harold Weiland was born September 7, 1932 in Madison, Nebraska to Tony and Minnie (Feiling) Weiland. He received his early education at St. Leonards Parochial School in Madison, Nebraska. He graduated from Madison High School in 1950. He married Patricia Kloppel on December 30, 1953 at St. Leonards Catholic Church in Madison. He farmed with his father and worked in Omaha before entering the United States Army on January 20, 1953. He served until January 19, 1955 when he returned to Madison where he farmed. In 1967 they moved to Columbus. He owned the Evergreen Trailer Park until 1996. He also worked at Henke Machine and then operated independently as roller mill serviceman. In 1977 he began Weiland Pumping which he continued to operate with his family. In 1999 he sold the roller mill repair business. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and a honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #12086.

Edmund Paul Cieloha

Edmund Paul Cieloha, age 84, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday; December 30, 2002 at the V.A. Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday; January 3, 2003 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Miksch will officiate. Burial will be in the All Saints Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be Thursday 4-8 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. A vigil will be held at 7: 00 p.m. Thursday evening. Visitation will continue Friday morning 8: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. all at the funeral home.

Edmund P. Cieloha was born May 18, 1918 in Nance County, Nebraska to John and Josephine (Swertzic) Cieloha. Edmund served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II from March 1942 - January 1946. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Ksiazek on June 9, 1947 in Clarks, Nebraska. Following his discharge from the service Edmund lived and farmed in Nance County and worked for the Rail Road for 8 years. He was a member of St. Isidore Church, Holy Name Society, and the Hartman Post #84 American Legion. In 1985 the couple retired and moved to Columbus. Ed loved Polish music and keeping up on current events.

Roman Sock

Roman Sock, age 72, of Silver Creek, Nebraska died Saturday February 1, 2003 at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek with Reverend Dave Korth officiating. Burial is in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Silver Creek. Visitation is after 5: 00 p.m. Monday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Lawrence Church. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 9: 30 a.m. - service time also at the church.

Roman Sock was born May 7, 1930 in Nance County to Philip & Helen (Jarecki) Sock. He grew up in Polk and Merrick counties and attended District #23 and District #40 schools. Roman worked construction before entering the US Army from January 1951 until Dec 1952 during the Korean Conflict, serving in Korea. He returned home where he starting farming. In 1956 he started a land leveling business, but continued to farm and feed cattle. In 1968 he purchased Havens Elevator and operated it until 1975. He continued farming until 1985 when he entered the horse racing business which he was a part of until August of 2002. He enjoyed fishing and reading. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, American Legion Post #263, and the Horse Racing Association.

Michael L. Noonan

Michael L. Noonan, 66, of rural Columbus, Nebraska died Monday, February 3, 2003 at his home. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday February 7, 2003 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Weisbecker officiating. Burial will be in the Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery rural Platte Center, Nebraska with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Thursday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation continues Friday morning from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. also at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Family Choice.

Michael Leo Noonan was born August 14, 1936 in West Point, Nebraska to George and Catherine (Prinz) Noonan. He grew up in Boone and Madison county and graduated from Newman Grove High School. Following graduation Mike farmed near Albion and also worked at Behlen Manufacturing in Columbus. In 1960 he entered and served in the U.S. Army. Mike then worked at Sherwin Williams, Diers Supply and Red Country International until 1970 when he started his own mechanic shop at his home. He loved working outdoors, John Deere Tractors, and working in his shop. Mike was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and the Platte Eagles Aerie #1834.
