Opal Vera Benedict

Opal Vera Benedict, age 91 of Ogallala, Nebraska formerly of Bellwood, Nebraska died Saturday October 20, 2001 at her home in Ogallala. Funeral Services are 1: 00 p.m. Friday October 26, 2001 at the Bellwood Methodist Church with Reverend Gary Main officiating. Burial will be in the Bellwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 11: 00 a.m. until service time Friday at the church in Bellwood.
Opal Vera Benedict was born September 25, 1910 in Norton, Kansas to John and Violet (Adrian) Powell. She grew up in Nelson, Nebraska. Following high school Opal attended Hastings College and the Mary Lanning School of Nursing. After her graduation she began a long career as a surgical nurse. On October 11, 1947 Opal was united in marriage to Maurice Benedict in Bellwood, Nebraska where they made their home for over fifty years. The couple kept a summer home at Lake McConaughy near Ogallala since the late 1960's and moved to Ogallala to make their home in 1999. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the I.O.O.F. Rebekah Lodge, Butler County Extension Society, the Bellwood Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by:

HELEN BOROWIAK

Helen J. Borowiak, 83, died Thursday October 25 at Genoa Long Term Care. Services are 10: 30 am on Monday October 29 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Krakow. Visitation begins at 4: 00 pm on Sunday at McKown Funeral Home in Silver Creek. There will be a Ss. Peter and Paul Altar Society rosary at 4: 00 pm and a Vigil service at 7: 00 pm at the funeral home in Silver Creek. Visitation will continue Monday morning at the church from 9: 30 am until service time. Burial will be in the Ss. Peter and Paul cemetery.

Helen was born April 4, 1918 in Spalding, Nebraska to Andrew and Anna (Konwinski) Kurek. She received her education at Ss. Peter and Paul Parochial School in Krakow. On April 7, 1937 she married Frank Borowiak in Krakow. She lived in the Silver Creek area before moving to Chicago from 1956-1962. She returned to Columbus where she worked at Becton-Dickinson for 6 years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and St. Theresa Sodality. She also belonged to the Altar Society at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church-Krakow.

She is survived by:

Sister: Clementine Chalupka of Schaumburg, IL

Maxine Bryan

Maxine M. Bryan, age 77, of Columbus, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at the Columbus Comunity Hospital. Graveside services will be held at a later date.

Maxine was born December 4, 1923 in Lincoln, Nebraska to David & Bonnie (Darnell) Hammond.
She graduated from high school in Roseville, California
She was married to Franklin James Bryan in Reno, Nevada on January 10, 1938.
She lived in Clifton, Kansas before moving to Lincoln where she lived for 26 years. She then moved to Oklahoma where she lived until 1990 when she moved to Columbus. She worked in the family business of custom grain harvesting and worked for a sod farm in Lincoln.

Louis Barnas

Louis Barnas, age 81 of Columbus, Ne. formerly of Tarnov, Ne. died Wednesday July 25, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Monday July 30, 2001 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Tarnov, Ne. with Reverend Rod Kneifl officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Tarnov, Ne. Visitation is after 4: 00 p.m. Sunday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation continues on Monday from 9: 30 a.m. until service time at the church in Tarnov.

Louis Barnas was born April 29, 1920 in Tarnov, Nebraska to Stanley and Sophia (Syslo) Barnas. He attended St. Michael's School in Tarnov. Louis farmed in the Tarnov area and drove truck for Central Sand and Gravel until retiring. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Tarnov.

Ann Clara Braun

Ann Clara Braun, age 87, of Columbus died Friday, March 9, 2001 at the Columbus Manor. Funeral Services will be held 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2001 at the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Fr. Tom Weisbecker officiating.
Burial will be at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be after 3: 00 p.m Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. A rosary will be recited at 3: 30 p.m. Monday and a Vigil Service will be held at 7: 00 p.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from
8: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Ann Clara Braun was born October 21 1913 in Lindsay, Nebraska to Henry and Anna (Boesch) Luetkenhaus. She attended Holy Family School in Lindsay. On June 4, 1935 she was united in marriage to Cyril Braun at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay. The couple moved to Columbus from Rock Island Illinois in 1952. Ann worked for St. Mary's Hospital for 15 years. Following that she did babysitting for many years. Ann enjoyed playing cards.

She was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Francisican Missionary Union, St. Bonaventure Guild, Perpetual Adoration, Mission Club, and Behlen Credit Union Auxiliary. Ann also spent many hours doing volunteer work for the church.

Charles S. Dush Sr. died Wednesday March 7, 2001 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services are 10: 30 AM Monday March 12, 2001 at St Stanislaus Church in Duncan, with Fr. Dave Korth officiating. Visitation is after 4: 00 PM Sunday at St Stanislaus Church. There will be a Vigil at 7: 00 PM Sunday at Church. Visitation will continue for 9: 30 AM until service time Monday at Church. Burial is at the St Stanislaus Cemetery in Duncan with Military Honors.

Don R. Byers, Jr.

Don R. Byers, Jr. age 72 of David City formerly of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday June 24, 2001 at the Butler County Hospital in David City, Nebraska.
Funeral Services will be 10: 00 a.m. Wednesday June 27, 2001 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Dan Keller officiating. Burial will be in the Osceola Cemetery in Osceola, Nebraska. Visitation is from 3: 00 - 9: 00 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. A Vigil Service will be held 7: 30 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8: 00 - 9: 30 a.m also at the funeral home.

Don R. Byers, Jr. was born June 14, 1929 in Osceola, Nebraska to Don R. & Joyselan (Snider) Byers. He graduated from Osceola High School in 1947 and attended college in York, Nebraska. On December 30, 1948 he was united in marriage to Margaret R. Staroscik in Osceola, Nebraska. Don served in the U.S. Navy stationed in San Diego, California from 1948 - 1950. The couple lived in Columbus where he worked for Minnegasco for 40 years until retiring on July 1, 1991. He was a past member of St. Bonaventure Church, 45 year member of Knights of Columbus #938, 4th Degree Knight & served as Grand Knight for the 3rd Degree from 1974-1976.

Judy A. Braun, age 55, of Hastings, Ne. formerly of Columbus died Monday, February 5, 2001 at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.

Funeral Services are 10: 30a.m. Thursday February 8, 2001 at the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Burial will be at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5: 00p.m. - 8: 00p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home. A Vigil service will be held at 7: 00p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 8: 00a.m. - 10: 00a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Judy A. Braun was born January 21, 1946 in Humphrey, Nebraska to Remy & Alice (Dohmen) Braun. She graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1964 and attended Norfolk Jr. College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She moved to San Francisco, California & worked there until moving to Hasting, Nebraska in 1988. She spent most of her time doing volunteer work. Judy loved the art & nature & was an avid painter.

John Robert Curry

John Robert "J.R." Curry, age 17, of Columbus died Saturday; February 17, 2001 as a result of an auto accident near Columbus, Nebraska. Funeral Services will be 11: 00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. The Rev. Don Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday 4-8 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and Tuesday 10: 00 until service time at the church.

J.R. was born February 17, 1984 in Columbus, Nebraska to John & Debbie (Andrews) Curry.
J.R. received his early education at North Park Elementary, Columbus Middle School and Immanuel Lutheran School. He attended Mt. Michael Prep School and was currently a junior at the Columbus High School. He was a member of Federated Church. J.R. was involved in many activities. He was a member of The Flight Club Soccer Team since 1993. He also played on the Columbus High School soccer team and ran cross country. He was currently a member fo the Columbus swim team. During the summer J.R. had worked at the Columbus Aquatic Center as a life guard and as a private swimming instructor. For several summers he worked during the detasseling season. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trips to the family cabin.
