Ross Gerber

Ross Edward Gerber, age 85, of Columbus, Nebraska formerly of Nebraska City, Nebraska died Saturday July 14, 2001 at the Columbus Manor in Columbus. Memorial Services are 2: 00 p.m. Wednesday July 18, 2001 at the McKown Funeral Chapel in Columbus with Reverend Gary Main officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Peru, Nebraska. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1: 00 p.m. until servicetime at McKown Funeral Home.

Ross Edward Gerber was born May 1, 1916 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Edward and Bertha (Ross) Gerber. He graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1935. In 1939 he was united in marriage to Roberta Cowell in Fremont, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II.
Ross was a Contractor and co-owner of Colbert & Gerber Construction in Nebraska City for 35 years until retiring and moving to San Benito, Texas. The couple lived there for 15 years until moving to Columbus in 1994. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the V.F.W., the American Legion, and the 40 & 8 Club in Nebraska City. Ross enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

Minnie L. Janssen

Minnie L. Janssen, age 89, of Columbus died Monday; July 9, 2001 at the Columbus Manor. Funeral services will be Friday 10: 00 am at St. Lukes Congregational Church UCC. The Rev. Nancy Peebles will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday 4-8 pm at the McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Friday morning, 9: 00 am until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus, Nebraska.

Minnie was born June 10, 1912 in Platte Center to Harry and Elsena (Husmann) Kamm. She grew up in Platte Center. On October 20, 1930 she married August Janssen. She resided in Platte Center and Columbus throughout her life. In 1954 she moved into Columbus where she has lived since. She worked many years at Gloor Bakery. She was a member of St. Luke's Congregational Church UCC in Columbus and the Rhoda Circle.

Minnie is survived by her children and grandchildren:

Alma H. Hasselbalch

Alma H. Hasselbalch, 93, of Columbus died Saturday July 7, 2001 at the Countryside Home in Madison. Services are 2: 30 pm Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4: 00-8: 00 pm at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church from 1: 30 pm until service time. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.

Alma H. Hasselbalch was born November 29, 1907 in Cordova, NE to Otto and Ida (Fillinger) Hasselbalch. Alma graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus. She lived in North Platte and then Columbus. She worked as a cashier for JC Penney for 23 years, and as the Platte County Selective Service Officer for 15 years. After her retirement, Alma worked as a volunteer and operated the Hospital gift shop for 20 years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus, member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Hospital Auxiliary.

Alma is survived by 3 nieces; Colleen Willman and Mary Goc both of Columbus, and Christine Carr of Sheboygan, WI, and one brother-in-law; Carl Spidle of Blair, NE. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and 2 nephews.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Prairie Village, or to the Donors Choice

Dorothy Hahn

Dorothy "Dottie" Hahn, 73, of Columbus died Tuesday, February 20 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services will be 10: 00 am Friday, February 23, 2001 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan. Visitation will begin after 3: 00 pm Thursday at McKown Funeral Home. There will be a vigil at 7: 00 pm Thursday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue from 9: 00 am until service time Friday at the church in Duncan. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus.

Dottie Hahn was born March 5, 1927 on a farm near Brainard, NE to Theodore and Lillian (Sypal) Svoboda. She attended Dwight Assumption Catholic School. On October 11, 1948, Dottie married Carroll J. Hahn at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard. She was a homemaker on her and her husbands farm near Columbus. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, and cooking.

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan.

Willard Lee Graham

Willard Lee Graham, age 72, of #22 E. Sandy Ridge Road, Duncan Lakes, rural Duncan, Nebraska died Friday December 28, 2001 at his home. Mr. Graham's body was cremated. Memorial Services are 10: 30 a.m. Saturday January 5, 2002 at Metz Mortuary Chapel in York, Nebraska with Reverend Gary Main officiating. Private family burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in York, Nebraska. Family will receive friends on Friday from 4: 30 p.m. until 7: 00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus.

Willard Lee Graham was born September 30, 1929 at home in York, Nebraska to Marion Wm. and Clara E. (Thelander) Graham. He attended York City Schools and graduated from York High School in 1947. On June 30, 1950 he was united in marriage to Jane D. Wendell at her home in York, Ne. This union was blessed with a daughter Shelley S. and a son Mark A. Graham. He had worked for the Burlington Railroad. He was in the army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 - 1953. Upon his return from the service he became a printer with the T. C. Lord Co., Gillen Inc. and North Printing Co. in York. On June 1, 1970 he joined the printing department of Nebraska Public Power District office at Columbus, Ne. He later became the printing foreman until his retirement in 1987. He and his wife Jane then moved to Duncan Lakes near Duncan, Ne. to spend their retirement years. He was a member of the York Legion Bolton Post #19, the United Methodist Church in Columbus and has been an active member of the Duncan lake Community Association. His hobby of carpentry and helping friends with their projects brought him great joy.

Raymond E. Hall

Raymond E. Hall, age 75 of Columbus died Wednesday February 14, 2001 at his home. Funeral Services will be held 10: 00 a.m. Saturday February 17, 2001 at the St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Fr. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial will be at the All Saints Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.

Visitation is from 3: 00 p.m. - 9: 00 p.m. Friday at the McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. A Vigil Service will be held at 7: 00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8: 00 a.m. - 9: 30 a.m. also at McKown Funeral Home.

Ray was born December 23, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to William and Eva (Spake) Hall. He moved to Columbus as a small child and then back to Chicago where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater from 1944-1946. Following his discharge Ray settled in Columbus. He married Donna Snyder on September 6, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in rural Bellwood, Nebraska. He worked for the John Deere Dealership for 33 years and then for Columbus Irrigation for 15 years.

Ray was a member of the V.F.W. #3704, St. Isidore Catholic Church, Holy Name Society & was involved in other church functions.

He is survived by:

Joan (Schwartzer) Goodman, 46, of Lincoln, formerly of Columbus, died Saturday December 1, 2001 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln. Funeral services are 10: 00 am Wednesday December 5, 2001 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Christopher Grimmond officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Tuesday at St. Anthony Church with a Vigil service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 9-10 am, also at St. Anthony Church. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Joan Goodman was born March 5, 1955 in Columbus to Frank and Kathleen (Holys) Schwartzer. She attended St. Anthony Parochial School and graduated from Columbus High School in 1973. She was previously married to Steven Goodman. Joan lived in Lincoln where she was currently the training manager for Wendy's Restaurants. She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lincoln. Joan was a devoted mother and grandmother, enjoyed crocheting, reading, and music.

Barbara A. Hirschbrunner, age 73, of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday December 27, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services 11: 00 a.m. Monday December 31, 2001 at McKown Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Paul L. Rowoldt officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is from 3: 00 p.m. - 5: 00 p.m. Sunday and on Monday from 8: 00 a.m. until service time at McKown Funeral Home.

Barbara A. Hirschbrunner was born March 19, 1928 in Winnebago, Minnesota to Gerald and Mable (Dunlap) Benschoter. She attended Winnebago Public Schools. Barbara married LuVerne R. Carlson on December 2, 1946. She later married Charles L. Hirschbrunner. Barbara was employed at Dale Electronics for over 31 years until retiring. She was a member of the Dales Retirement Club.

She is survived by:
