Kendra Ann Homann

Kendra Ann Homann, 8 week old infant daughter of Jim & Deana (Rast) Homann, died Friday August 17, 2001 at Childrens Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services are 2: 00 pm Monday at McKown Funeral Home with the Rev. Will Sanborn officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 12 noon until service time at McKown Funeral Home. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery.

Kendra was born June 22, 2001 in Omaha.

Wayne Gertsch

Wayne A. Gertsch, age 80, of Columbus, died Saturday; April, 21, 2001 at the Columbus Comunity Hospital. Funeral services will be 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday; April 25 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church will the Rev. Tom Weisbecker officiating. Interment with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 2-9 at McKown Funeral Home. A vigil will be held Tuesday evening at 7: 00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Wayne was born October 19, 1920 in Creston, Nebraska to Calvin & Mattie (Pilling) Gertsch.
He married Carolyn Eva Laudenklaus on September 20, 1944 at Brownwood, Texas.
He received his education at District #8 in Colfax County and at Kramer High School in Columbus. He worked as a farm hand prior to joining the U.S. Army in September 1942 where he was assigned to the 13th Armoured Division and received his training at Camp Walters, Texas. He spent a year in Germany 1945-46 receiving his discharge as a Cpl. Sgt on February 26, 1946. Folowing his discharge from the service he was employed for 25 years by the Bertchold Cattle Company and 10 years by Behlen Manufacturing. After his retirement he was self employed as an auto mechanic.

Lydia M. Henry

Lydia M. Henry, age 87, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday April 18, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Funeral Services are 10: 00 a.m. Monday April 23, 2001 at the McKown Funeral Chapel in Columbus. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is from 3: 00 p.m. until 8: 00 p.m. Sunday and from 8: 00 a.m. until servicetime Monday all at McKown Funeral Home.

Lydia Henry was born August 26, 1913 in Leigh, Nebraska to Edwin and Louise (Johannes) Culver. She grew up and attended school in Leigh. Later her family moved to the Richland area. On November 11, 1931 she was united in marriage to John W. Henry in David City, Nebraska. The couple lived and farmed in and around St. Edward and Columbus until 1958 when they moved to Columbus.
Lydia enjoyed traveling, bingo, gambling and fishing.

She is survived by:

Elizabeth Jarecki

Elizabeth L. Jarecki, age 85, of Columbus died Sunday April 1, 2001 at her home. Funeral Services will be held 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday April 4, 2001 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Fr. Tom Weisbecker officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is from 3: 00 p.m. - 9: 00 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. A Rosary will be recited at 3: 30 p.m. Tuesday and a Vigil Service will be held at 7: 30 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Elizabeth L. Jarecki was born September 24, 1915 in Elyria, Nebraska to Joseph and Valeria (Podraza) Kiolbasa. She attended schools in Merrick County. On November 22, 1933 she was united in marriage to Emory S. Jarecki at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks. The couple farmed in the Columbus area until moving to a farm near Lindsay in 1942. Following retirement in 1971 they moved back to Columbus. Elizabeth was a homemaker and a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church and St. Bonaventure Guild in Columbus.

She is survived by:

Mildred M. Becker

Mildred M. Becker, 92, of Columbus died Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus. Funeral services are 11: 00 am Saturday at McKown Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Neely officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10: 00 am until service time. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery.

Mildred M. Becker was born March 24, 1910 in Harrison County, Iowa to B.N. and Ethel (McNeil) Morlan. She was raised and attended schools growing up in Knox County, Nebraska. On January 14, 1931 she was united in marriage to Ernest Becker in O'Neill, NE. Mildred raised her family and helped her husband manage the Zest Drive-In that they owned. She was a member of Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus.

Carol Bignell

Carol Jean Bignell, age 64, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday September 15, 2002 at Creighton University Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Thursday; September 19, 2002 at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus, Nebraska. The Rev Michael V. Klatt and Ernest G. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 4-8 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday morning 9: 30 a.m. until service time at the church. There will be a 10: 15 p.m. family prayer service.

Carol Jean Bignell was born April 3, 1938 in Louisville, Nebraska to W. Martin and Leona (Borgelt) Wilson. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1955. She married Dwight Bignell on August 11, 1956 in Fremont, Nebraska. She has lived in Columbus since 1974. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and was a Caretaker at Peace Lutheran Church.

Maurice A. Drum

Maurice A. Drum, age 79, of Columbus died Friday, October 25, 2002 at Columbus Manor. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Maurice A. Drum was born March 30, 1923 in Columbus, Nebraska to Neal and Anna (Kuck) Drum. He grew up near Oconee in Platte County and attended District #11 School. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp and helped build the McNary Dam in Oregon. He married Elois Marange. Maurice lived in Oregon, Montana, Arizona, & Nebraska where he was a self-employed painter. Maurice enjoyed music and belonged to the Old Fiddler's Band in Oregon.

He is survived by:

Mary A. Chohon

Mary A. Chohon, 91, of Silver Creek died Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus. Funeral services are 10: 30 am Saturday, November 23, 2002 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. Visitation is after 6 pm Friday at St. Lawrence Church and on Saturday from 9: 30 am until service time. There will be a Vigil service at 7: 00 pm Friday at the church in Silver Creek. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Mary A. Chohon was born September 29, 1911 in Nance County to Philip James & Anna (Boro) Zegar. She was raised in Nance County and received her education in Nance County. On January 21, 1930 she was united in marriage to Leo Chohon at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church - Krakow. The couple moved to a farm near Silver Creek where Mary raised chickens, geese and ducks. She was a devoted wife and mother. In her spare time Mary enjoyed gardening, crocheting, embroidery and playing bingo. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the St. Lawrence Altar Society.

Loretta H. Davis

Loretta H. Davis, 86 of 2571 47th Ave. Columbus, NE., died Monday May 13, 2002 at the Columbus Manor.

Memorial Services are 11: 00 AM Thursday at The Columbus Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with President Gregg Warnick officiating. The Family will receive friends from 10: 00 AM until service time at the Church on Thursday

Loretta H. Davis was born November 20, 1915 in San Francisco, Ca., to William and Violet (Silva) Foley. She grew up in San Francisco, and later married Eugene P. Davis on October 2, 1950 in Heyward, Ca. After the birth of their son, the family moved to Southern California where Loretta worked in the Dental Field. After her retirement, she moved to St. George, Utah where she worked at the Dixie Medical Center and later volunteered for many years as a Pink Lady at the hospital. She loved fishing, hiking in the mountains, rock hounding and traveling. In 1995 she moved to the Nebraska area.

She is survived by 1 son Gene (Remy) Davis of the Philippines and 3 Grandchildren
