Bryce Leroy Barber

Bryce Leroy Barber, 12 week old son of Jesse and Nicole Barber, died Sunday July 7, 2002 at Children's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 2: 00 p.m. Wednesday July 10, 2002 at McKown Funeral Chapel in Columbus with Reverend John Hellwege officiating. Burial will be in the Bellwood Cemetery in Bellwood, Nebraska. Visitation is on Wednesday from 1: 00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Bryce Leroy Barber was born April 5, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital to Jesse and Nicole (Randall) Barber. Shortly after birth he was sent to Childrens Hospital where he was diagnosed with a heart disease. Bryce came home for 3 weeks before he returned to Childrens Hospital .

Derald D. "Sarge" Deckert

Derald D. "Sarge" Deckert, age 74 of Columbus, Nebraska, died Friday; July 5, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday; July 9, 2002 at the McKown Funeral Home. The Rev. William Effa will officiate. Burial with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard will be in the Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be Monday 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home and continue 9: 30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

Derald Duane Deckert was born September 13, 1927 in Tilden, Nebraska to Elmer and Mabel (Clark) Deckert. He married Ruth Shenshew on May 11, 1952 in Norfolk, Nebraska. He served in the US Army from 1946 until retiring in 1967 when he joined his family in Columbus, Nebraska. Sarge served during WWII, Korean and served two tours in Viet Nam. While in Columbus he worked for 15 years at Dale Electronics and 7 years at Little Bo's. He was a member of Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post #3704 in Columbus.

Jeffrey C. Beadles

Jeffrey C. Beadles, 55, of Columbus died Monday July 29, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha as the result of an accident.

Jeffrey Coe Beadles was born October 18, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan to Arnold and Norma (Jackson) Beadles. He grew up in Pompano Beach, Florida where he attended high school. He later went on to graduate from Rets electronics school in Florida. He had lived in Nebraska for the last 6 years.

Leland "Lee" F. Bruckner

Leland "Lee" F. Bruckner, age 78, of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday December 19, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Monday December 23, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Mark Bridgman officiating. Burial is in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Sunday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Monday from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Leland F. "Lee" Bruckner was born May 10, 1924 in Columbus, Nebraska to William and Anna (Janicek) Bruckner. He attended District #9 School. He married Christine "Marie" Wood October 2, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska. Lee served in the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII from April 1943 - November 1945. The couple lived and farmed in Polk County until 1978. During this time he aslo worked at the Alfalfa Mill and drove a truck for Gerhold Concrete. In 1978 they moved to Columbus. His wife Christine died in 1979. Lee married Laurel Wilde on January 18, 1980 in Omaha. In 1983 the couple moved to Becher Place Apartments, which he managed until 1998. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Eagles Club, Hartman Post #84 American Legion, Lifetime Member of the V.F.W. Post #3704. Lee enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing and bowling.

David De Leon Martinez

David De Leon Martinez, 53, died Sunday February 10 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services will be held in Repueblo De Oriente-Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Visitation will be on Tuesday February 12 at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus from 6: 30-8: 30 pm. Burial will be in the Dolores Cemetery in Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

David De Leon Martinez was born November 27, 1948 in Repueblo De Oriente-Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Paz De Leon Pruneda and Alicia Martinez Valdez. He grew up in Mexico before immigrating to the U.S. in 1952. He lived in California before coming to Columbus where he worked as a supervisor for CSS Farms.

Doris L. Gregorius

Doris L. Gregorius, age 93, of Columbus died Monday; April 21, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday; April 23, 2003 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation will be 4: 00 - 8: 00 p.m. Tuesday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 8: 00 -10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Doris L. Gregorius was born April 23, 1909 in Kearney, Nebraska to Albert R. and Tracy (Webster) Winslow. She graduated from Gibbon High School in 1928. She played piano for silent movies and dances in Gibbon. while in Gibbon she also played in a dance orchestra called the Dreamland Entertainers. Doris worked for the Nebraska Continental Telephone Company in Kearney until being transferred to Columbus in 1932. She married William Gregorius, Jr. on June 30, 1934 in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived in various cities in Nebraska until moving to Columbus in the late 1940's. Doris worked at the city water office and city clerk office. She also worked for the Platte County Fair as the office manager for 35 years and bookeeper for 40 years. The 1984 Fair Book was dedicated to her for her years of service. She was inducted into the Platte County Agricultural Society Hall of Fame. Doris was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Hospital Auxiliary where she did volunteer work.

Jack L. Grobeck

Jack L. Grobeck, age 77 of Sun City West, Arizona formerly of Omaha died Saturday; April 12, 2003 in Columbus, Nebraska. Funeral services are 11: 00 a.m. Wednesday; April 16, 2003 at St. Isidore Catholic Church located at 3921 20th Street in Columbus. The Rev. Joseph A. Miksch will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 pm with a 6: 30 pm vigil services all at the McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning 10: 00 am until service time at the church.

Jack Grobeck was born August 13, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska to Lawrence and Goldie (Hansen) Grobeck. He received his early education in Omaha and graduated from South High School in 1942. He served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. Following his military service Jack attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he received his Bachelors Degree in Business. He was married to Doris Donnelly in Elk Point, South Dakota on May 26, 1953.

Lydia Eller

Lydia Eller, 86, of Bellevue, formerly of Columbus died Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at Midlands Hospital in Bellevue. Services are 1: 30 pm Friday, May 2 at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3-6 pm at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Duncan.

Lydia Eller was born September 5, 1916 on a farm near Bruno, NE to Joseph & Anna (Cernaahlvec) Proskovec. She grew up in Butler County. On May 20, 1940 she married Arthur "Bud" Eller in Franklin, NE. She worked 25 years as a bookkeeper for KC Auto Supply in Columbus. She moved to Fremont for 12 years before moving to Bellevue. She collected porcelain frogs and enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the Eagles Club.

Christopher N. Hiller

Christopher N. Hiller, 81, of Lincoln died Sunday April 20, 2003 at his home in Lincoln following a lengthy illness. Services are 11: 00 am Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3-5 pm at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6: 30 pm at St. Peter's Church in Bellwood with a Vigil service at 7: 30 pm Tuesday, also at the Church. Interment will be in St. Peter/Mary Cemetery in rural Bellwood. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth's Hospice or made to the wishes of the family.

Chris was born November 8, 1921 at the family home 2 3/4 miles northeast of Bellwood to Peter and Rose (Hilger) Hiller. He was raised and lived in the Bellwood area until 1956, attending Marietta School. He married Lois Treadway on March 4, 1946 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Bellwood, celebrating their 57th anniversary this year at home with their family. Chris was a farmer and carpenter in the Bellwood area until they moved to St. Edward, NE in 1956. He continued to farm and do carpentry work there until 1985 and moved to Nelson, NE. They lived in Nelson for about 5 years where Chris worked for his son at Hiller Lumber in Nelson for a while and then worked for a farmer. In December of '89 they moved to Columbus where they lived until May 2000 when they moved to Lincoln. While living in Columbus he worked for CK Planing Mill, Quail Run Golf Course, and at Columbus High School as a janitor. In Lincoln Chris worked for Lincoln Public Schools as a janitor until his health got worse. Chris was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather as his family meant so much to him. He was an avid baseball player, coach, manager, and later on just a fan. He also played softball, loved to fish, and woodworking. He enjoyed playing the slots, the yearly trip to Vegas and in later years to the casinos around here. He like gardening and having a nice yard and flowers.
