Duane Korus

Duane Anthony Korus, age 68, of Columbus died Wednesday April 25, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 11: 00 a.m. Saturday April 28, 2001 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Chris Grimmond officiating. Burial will be in the Sts. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery - Platte Center, Ne. with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.
Visitation is after 5: 00 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with a Vigil Service at 7: 00 p.m. Friday at church. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 10: 00 a.m. until servicetime at the church.

Duane Anthony Korus was born June 13, 1932 in Platte County, Nebraska to Alois and Josephine (Zabawa) Korus. He attended school in Platte County. On January 1, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Greisen at St. Anthony Catholic Church rural Platte Center, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from August 1952 until August 1954, stationed in Okinowa. Duane lived and farmed near Platte Center until 1976 when he moved to Columbus.He also worked at Behlen Manufacturing from 1972 until his retirement in 1994. He was a member ot St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, was an avid gardener, enjoyed selling his produce, reading, and his grandkids.

Brennan Lindhorst

Brennan Lindhorst, age 11, of O'Neill died Monday; April 30, 2001 at Avera St. Anthony Hospital in O'Neill, Nebraska. Funeral services are 10: 30 Friday; May 4, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center. Fr. Rod Kneifl will officiate. Burial will be in the Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery located in rural Platte Center. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a 7: 30 p.m. rosary. Visitation will continue Thursday from 4-9 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center with a 7: 30 p.m. rosary. Friday morning visitation will be held from 9: 30 a.m. until service time also at the church.

Brennan was baptized May 13, 1990 at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Osceola, Nebraska. He attended school at Exeter and Ravenna Public Schools and was currently in the fifth grade at St. Mary's Elementary School in O'Neill. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and an alter server. He enjoyed playing Nintendo with his family and friends, and participated in baseball and basketball. His favorite sport was football, being a big Packer and husker fan. He also liked fishing and horses. Brennan had an inoperable brain tumor for the last 15 months.

Pauline Kavanaugh

Pauline Kavanaugh, age 82, of Columbus died Tuesday; April 24, 2001 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services will be 10: 00 a.m. Saturday; April 28, 2001 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, located at 18th Ave. & 15th Street in Columbus. The Rev. Tom Weisbecker will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitaion is Friday after 3: 00 p.m. with a 7: 00 p.m. vigil all at the McKown Funeral Home located at 2922 13th Street. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 8: 00 a.m. until 9: 30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Pauline was born January 10, 1919 in Burchard, Nebraska to John and Mary (Byrne) Carson.
Pauline married Dr. Daniel S. Kavanaugh DDS on March 5, 1942 in Table Rock, Nebraska.
She attended the College of St. Mary in Omaha and then worked at the County Extension Office in Pawnee City. In 1946 she and her husband moved to Columbus. She worked at the Nebraskaland Insurance, formerly known as Miller Allied Insurance and Potts Insurance. Pauline also worked at the Platte County Courthouse and also served as Deputy Register of Deeds from 1979 until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Bonaventure Parish for 55 years where she volunteered at the rectory. She was a 50 year member of Catholic Daughters of America and a member of Legion of Mary and Perpetual Adoration.

Josephine "Jozefa" Kleszcz

Jozefa "Josephine" Kleszcz, age 70, of Silver Creek died Wednesday April 4, 2001 at Genoa Community Hospital. Services are 10: 30 pm Monday April 9, 2001 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church-Krakow with the Rev. Robert Nienaber officiating. Visitation will begin after 5 pm Sunday at McKown Funeral Home in Silver Creek. There will be a 7 pm Wake service also at the funeral home in Silver Creek. Visitation will continue from 8: 30-9: 45 Monday at McKown Funeral Home in Silver Creek. Burial will be at Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery.

Jozefa "Josephine" was born June 10, 1930 in Wola Wielka, Poland to Jozef "Joseph" and Bronislawa "Bernice" (Kramarczyk) Bakowska. She received her education in Poland. She married Czeslaw "Chester" Kleszcz in 1951 in Poland. Following her marriage she lived in Borowa, Poland until March of 1986. Following the death of her son she moved to Chicago where she lived until July of 2000 when she moved to Silver Creek, Nebraska. While living in Chicago, she worked as a housekeeper. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.

Josephine is survived by her daughter: Mary (Albin) Ziemba of Silver Creek, 4 sons; Zbyszek and his wife Veronica of Norridge, Illinois, Romek and his wife Maria of Tarnov, Poland, Mark & his wife Urszula of Borowa, Poland, Stanistaw and his wife Jola of Debica, Poland, 2 brother-in-laws: Stanley and his wife Danusia Kleszcz of Lodz, Poland; Jan and his wife Paulina Kleszcz of Borowa, Poland. One sister-in-law: Zuzanna (Mrs. Ted) Bakowska of Wola Wielka, Poland. And 18 grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 son: Christopher Kleszcz, 2 infant twin daughters, 2 grandsons; 1 brother Tadek Bakowski, 2 sisters: Majka Dydo and Helena Poczatko

Louis E. Mick

Louis E. Mick, age 88, of Bellwood died Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Mory's Haven in Columbus. Funeral services will be 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001at St. Peters Catholic Church in Bellwood. Fr. Jeremy Hazuka will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peters-Presentation Cemetery in rural Bellwood. Visitatation will be Monday 3-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. The Vigil will be held a 7: 00 pm Monday evening at the funeral home in Columbus. Visitation will continue Tuesday 9: 30 until service time at the church in Bellwood.

Louis was born April 10, 1912 in Bellwood, Nebraska to Joseph F. & Minnie (Sprunk) Mick. He received his education at District #13 and Bellwood High School. On November 24, 1936 he married Barbara Liss at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan. Louis farmed for over 42 years in the Bellwood area. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, and the Eagles Club. He served on the Alexis Township board and on the Bellwood Co-op Grain Board.

Kenneth Oakeson

Kenneth V. Oakeson, 79, of Columbus died Wednesday April 25, 2001 at Genoa Long Term Care. Funeral Services are 10: 30 am Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Ernest Smith and Rev. Steven Williams officiating. Visitation is from 3-8 pm on Thursday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues at Peace Lutheran Church on Friday from 9: 30 until service time with a family prayer service at 10: 15. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.

Kenneth was born October 16, 1921 to Julius and Anna (Olson) Oakeson in Gregory County, SD. He enlisted in the US Navy on Dec. 16, 1941 and served on the U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He received the Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon with one Blue Star, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the American Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars and the WWII Ribbon. He was discharged on October 9, 1945.

On July 17, 1948 he married Irene (Bruckner) Oakeson in Gregory County, SD. He worked for Minnegasco for 33 years before retiring in 1982. He enjoyed all sports, fishing, and camping. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, American Legion Post # 84 where he served as past Commander, and was a life member of the VFW Post 3704. He was one of the organizers and coached Little League baseball and Pony League baseball for many years.

He was preceded by his parents, 3 Brothers-Ove, Reinhold, and Donald, 3 sisters-Judith Velder, Martha Hummel, and Dorothy Ellis.

Hilbert G. Hefti

Hilbert G. Hefti, 86, of Columbus died Monday, September 9, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Services are 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Reverend Timothy White officiating. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is 3: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home and 9: 30 a.m. - service time Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. A Family Prayer Service will be held 10: 15 a.m. Thursday also at the church. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Salvation Army, or Donors Choice.

Hilbert G. Hefti was born January 16, 1916 in Colfax County to Fred & Bertha (Hoessel) Hefti. Moved to Columbus in 1921 and graduated from Kramer High School in 1936. He married Mildred Nash on October 30, 1937 in Syracuse, Nebraska. From 1943 to 1946 he served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during WWII. He returned to Columbus where he worked as a manager for Gerhold Company and Central Sand and Gravel for 46 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Eagles Club, and a lifetime member of the VFW and Hartman Post #84 American Legion.

He is survived by:

Luella C. Foltz

Luella C. Foltz, age 81 of Columbus died Friday; January 17, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday; January 21, 2003 at the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. The Rev. Tom Weisbecker will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5: 00 p.m. at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. A vigil service will be held 7: 00 p.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning 8: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. at the McKown Funeral Home.

Luella C. Foltz was born October 17, 1921 in St. Bernard, Nebraska to Frank and Marie (Glaser) Pfeifer. She received her education at St. Bernard School. She married Alfred P. Foltz on August 18, 1942 at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Luella and Alfred farmed in the St. Bernard area until 1949 when they moved into Columbus. She worked for many years at Dale Electronics until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, sewing and spending time with her family.

Visitation will be after 6 pm on Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with a Vigil service at 7 pm, also at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Thursday morning from 9: 30 am until service time at the Church in Tarnov. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
