Alvina Eusterbrock

Alvina Eusterbrock, age 63 of Columbus, died Wednesday; July 31, 2002 at her home in Columbus. Funeral services are 9: 30 a.m. Saturday; August 3, 2002 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Bill Bond officiating. Burial will be in the All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the McKown Funeral Home with a 7: 00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue Saturday morning 8: 00 a.m. until 9: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home

Alvina Eusterbrock was born August 27, 1938 in West Point, Nebraska to Frank and Lillian (Sindelar) Reznicek. She received her education in West Point where she graduated from Guardian Angel High School. She married Raymond Eusterbrock on January 20th, 1959 in Snyder, Nebraska. In June 1959 she moved with her husband to Columbus where she has lived since. Along with raising her family she also worked at Becton-Dickinson and Wal-Mart. She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church.

Velma V. Goering

Velma V. Goering, age 87, of Platte Center, Nebraska died Wednesday February 20, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Saturday February 23, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church Grand Prairie in rural Platte Center, Nebraska with Reverend Peter Jark-Swain officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is from 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and from 9: 30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the Church. A family prayer service will be held at 10: 15 a.m. Saturday also at the church.

Velma V. Goering was born March 24, 1914 in Platte Center, Nebraska to George and Ida (Lutjens) Kallweit. She graduated from Platte Center High School in 1932. On March 1, 1938 Velma was united in marriage to Milton H. Goering at Zion Lutheran Church - Grand Prairie. The couple lived & farmed near Platte Center. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Velma was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She was a charter member of the Upper Ten Extension Club. Velma enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking and writing. She provided flowers for the alter at Zion Lutheran Church for many years.

Theresa Antonia Huhman

Theresa A. Huhman, age 94, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday December 15, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Thursday; December 19, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with Reverend Tom Weisbecker, Reverend Mark Bridgman and Monsignor John Huhman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 4: 00 p.m. and a Vigil Service will be held at 7: 00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Thursday morning from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Theresa A. Huhman was born July 5, 1908 in Aloys, Nebraska to Herman and Clara (Maly) Ortmeier. She grew up in the West Point area. She received her education at Monterey, Nebraska. She married Emil J. Huhman on January 20, 1932 in Monterey, Nebraska. They farmed in Cumming County before they moved to Columbus in 1955. While in Columbus she cooked at various restaurants. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Legion of Mary and Holy Hour. She was a 4-H Leader for many years and enjoyed quilting, gardening cooking and baking and keeping track of her family.

Irma Arlene Faiman

Irma Arlene Faiman, 74, of Rapid City, SD, formerly of Columbus, died Friday, December 27, 2002 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Funeral services are 1: 00 pm Thursday, January 2, 2003 at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation is on Thursday from 11 am until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Clarkson. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Children's Home Society, 3549 Fontenelle Blvd., Omaha, NE 68104-9975.

Irma Arlene Faiman was born November 19, 1928 along with her twin-sister Wilma, to Alois and Emma Totusek. Irma lived on a farm near Clarkson, NE while attending District #38, a rural school, graduating from high school at age 16. Attending college at a young age, Irma began teaching at 16 years of age, and graduated from college with honors, and a BA in education.

On August 8, 1954 she married Elden Roy Faiman of Lindsay, NE. Irma continued to teach full time until they adopted two boys, Timothy and Steven from the Nebraska Childrens Home. She dedicated most of her time to raising a family while continuing to teach as a substitute for many years.

Irma was a member of several civic committee's, a devoted member of the Newman Grove United Methodist Church, a dedicated teacher, and dedicated mother and wife.

Irma loved the outdoors, enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and rabbits, going to church, and organizing family outings and get-togethers.

She lived in Lindsay, NE till the passing of her husband in 1990 at which time she moved to Columbus, making new friends but always keeping in touch with those she left behind. She recently moved to Rapid City, SD, in May 2002, to be closer to her grandchildren, affectionately known as "granny".

Irma loved watching people and analyzing them. A devoted Christian, Irma was the type of person anyone could talk to, as she had a "listening ear". Believing this was her "calling in life", she faithfully studied and read the written word of our Lord and Savior, a guidance in her day to day life. Now the Lord has called her home, as her work on earth is done.

Mildred A. Jelinek

Mildred A. Jelinek, 78, of Columbus formerly of Clarkson, died Wednesday October 31 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 11: 00 am Saturday at McKown Funeral Home with the Rev. Dorsie Ivy officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10 am until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery.

Mildred A. Jelinek was born April 20, 1923 in Colfax County to Frank & Anna (Zrust) Kozisek. She was raised in Colfax County and attended District 30 schools. She married Frank Jelinek on May 10, 1944 in Schuyler. Her and her husband lived in the rural Clarkson area where they farmed. They moved to Columbus in 1975. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved gardening, flowers, and traveling.

Clem Gronenthal

Clem Gronenthal, 87, of Columbus died Thursday October 25 at Columbus Community Hospital. Services are 10: 00 am on Monday October 29 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation will begin on Sunday at 5: 00 pm at St. Isidore Church with a Vigil Service set for 7: 00 pm. Visitation will continue on Monday morning from 8-9: 45 am at McKown Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lindsay Holy Family Cemetery.

Clem was born August 23, 1914 in Platte Center, Nebraska to John and Emma (Schroeder) Gronenthal. He received his education at Platte Center. He served in the Civilian Corp and later in the U.S. Navy from April 7, 1942 until his discharge on November 11, 1945. On February 26, 1946 he was married to Mildred Schumacher at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cornlea, Nebraska. He farmed in the Lindsay area until he retired and moved into Columbus. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, the Knight of Columbus Council #12086, and the American Legion .

Ruth E. Grimes

Ruth E. Grimes, age 86, of Columbus died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at the Columbus Manor.
Funeral services will be private.

Ruth was born April 3, 1914 in Columbus, Nebraska to E.G. & Rosebell (Phillips) Brown. She was married in Grand Island, Nebraska to Lowell B. Grimes. Ruth graduated from Columbus High School in 1932. She worked as a life guard and gave swimming lessons for many years. She also worked at K.C. Auto, Levines Clothing, and Gene Neater Studio. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus.

She is survived by 2 sons: Keith of Florida and Robert of Columbus
1 sister: Helen Dover of Florida
1 Brother: Jay Brown of Virginia

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and several brothers and sisters.

Dorothy Jeffryes

Dorothy Jeffryes, 48, of Columbus died Monday March 5, 2001 at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Funeral services are 10: 00 am Thursday, March 8 at the First Baptist Church in Columbus with Rev. Denison Conner officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 5-9 pm at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Thursday at the church from 9 am until service time. The burial will be at 1: 00 pm Thursday at Palestine Baptist Cemetery in rural Genoa.

Dorothy was born August 7, 1952 in Front Royal, Virginia to Hugh Robert "Sugar" & Mabel (Jenkins) Deal.
She received her education at Ann Arundle High School in Maryland. She married Danny Jeffryes at the Severn Baptist Church in Severn, Maryland. Following her marriage she moved to the Columbus, Nebraska area. They lived a short time in Oklahoma and Colorado before returning to Columbus where they have lived since. Dorothy owned and operated Jeffryes Day Care for over 20 years. She enjoyed ceramics, crafts and cross stitching. She enjoyed spending time with her family at the cabin and watching their bowling events.

Eula Gray

Eula Gray age 64 of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday March 11, 2001 while on vacation in Cairns, Australia. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church located at 2710 14th Street in Columbus, Nebraska. The Rev. Gary Main and Pastor Adrian Atkins will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home.

Eula was born September 10, 1936 in Shelton, Nebraska to Charles & Adina (Stearley) Sealing

She received her early education at rural schools in the Shelton area. She attended Hastings College and later graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in education in 1988. Eula married Charles Gray on August 31, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois at the Chapel in The Sky. She began her career as an elementary teacher until she retired to raise her family. Presently she worked as a substitute teacher at Columbus High School and had also been an ESL instructor at the Columbus Public Library.

She was active in Community service as a member of the Columbus Lions Club, was past president of the Alpha Rho Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Christian Women's Club, Garden Club, Columbus Women's Club, Columbus Recreational Trails, former member of the USTA Tennis League and served as secretary of the Columbus Family Y where she remained a frequent presence.

She is survived by her husband Charles, her children Richard (Colorado Springs, CO), Alan (Auburn, NE), and Linda (Denver, CO), sisters Margaret Triplett (Gibbon, NE), Charlene (Paul) Johrde (Bedford, NH), Helen Curtis (Clermont, FL), brothers Raymond (Debbie) Sealing (Camp Verde, AZ), and Gaylord (Helga) Sealing (Shelton, NE). 5 Grandchildren

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Arnold.

Eula was an amazing person and touched many lives. Whether she was traveling, scuba diving, trekking across Colorado, or riding her bike across Nebraska she always enjoyed life to the fullest. Because of Eula’s love for the Sandhill Cranes, the Nebraska wildlife and all of nature, memorials are suggested to the Rowe Crane Sanctuary, 44450 Elm Island Road, Gibbon, NE 68840.

Donald Jaixen

Donald E. Jaixen, age 73, of Platte Center died Monday; July 30, 2001 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Funeral services are 10: 00 am Friday, August 3, 2001at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center with Fr. Rod Kneifl officiating. Burial will be in the St. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery located in rural Platte Center with military honors by American Legion Parry Post 283. Visitation will be Thursday 3-5 pm at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6: 00 pm at the church. A Vigil will be held at 7: 30 pm at the Church.

Donald E. Jaixen was born December 4, 1927 in Rural Platte County to John & Eulalia (Mark) Jaixen. He attended St. Anthony Grade School in rural Platte County and graduated from Platte Center High School in 1945. He married Delores Bolton on November 17, 1956 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Platte Center. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from July 26, 1951 until his discharge on June 6, 1953. He farmed in rural Platte County and was a rural mail carrier for 36 years until his retirement November 30th, 1990. Don was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Platte Center where he served as an usher. He was past president of District #84 School Board and served as chairman on the Shell Creek Township Board. Don was past Commander & Adjutant of the American Legion Parry Post #283 where he was a life member. He was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association, and was the grader operator for Shell Creek Township. He was a member of several card clubs and enjoyed taking care of his yard.
