Keith Fisher

Keith A. Fisher age, age 78 of Columbus died Tuesday; August 5, 2003 in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral services are 10: 00 a.m. Saturday; August 9, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. The Rev. Bill Ritter will officiate. Burial with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard will be in the Columbus Cemetery.

Keith A. Fisher was born February 5, 1925 in Superior, Nebraska to Ora and Hazel (Shuck) Fisher. He graduated from Superior High School in 1943. He served in the United States Army from June 22, 1943 until January 7, 1946. He saw action in the European Theatre where he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. In 1955 he moved to Columbus, Nebraska from Freeport, Kansas. He worked at the Champlin Oil Refinery until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign War Post #3704 and the Eagles Club.

Marie Happ

G. Marie Happ, age 85, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday August 31, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday September 3, 2003 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Weisbecker officiating. Burial is in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation is 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Tuesday with a 7: 30 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

G. Marie Happ was born March 1, 1918 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the only child of Harley R. and Goldie E. (Bedell) Parker. She moved with her parents from Ottumwa, Iowa to Rock Island, Illinois. She attended public school in Rock Island graduating in 1936 and attended Business College in Ottumwa. She worked 6 years for the U.S. Department of Justice, Lands Division in Davenport, Iowa and Clinton, Iowa. She also worked at Bowlby's Music House in Rock Island and was secretary to the Chief of Police in Rock Island for 18 years until retiring on October 1, 1971. She married Henry J. Happ on December 23, 1952 in Rock Island, Illinois. Henry also retired on October 1, 1971 from International Harvester Farmall Works at which time the family moved to Columbus, Nebraska. Marie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, Columbus Community Hospital Auxiliary and St. Bonaventure Church.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Theresa (Jerry) Hilton of Columbus, Nebraska and Lisa Aldrete of Waterford, New York; granddaughters, Patricia Wielgus of Omaha, Nebraska and Katie Hilton of Columbus, Nebraska; grandson, Greg (Shannon) Wielgus of Fredericksburg, Virginia and a great grandson, Dallas Higginbotham.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Henry Happ on September 26, 1989 and a granddaughter, Mae Ann Wielgus.

Memorials may be directed to the family choice.

Louis "Fish" Shank

Louis "Fish" Shank, age 89, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday August 6, 2003 at the Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Saturday August 9, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Reverend Timothy White officiating. Burial is in the Columbus Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Saturday morning from 9: 30 a.m. - 10: 30 a.m. at the church. A Family Prayer Service will be held 10: 15 a.m. Saturday also at the church.

Louis "Fish" Shank was born July 10, 1914 in Red Oak, Iowa to Harry & Emily (Maier) Shank Sr.. He lived in Red Oak and then the family moved to Columbus where Louis graduated from Kramer High School in 1932. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942-1945. Louis married Ruth Kallweit on February 6, 1943 in Little Rock, Ark. After the war, Fish and Ruth moved back to Columbus where he worked in the dry cleaning business until he retired in 1979. Louis "Fish" Shank was in the Columbus Volunteer Fire Dept, 1st Hose Co. for 31 years. Life Member of VFW Post 3704., 50 year member of Hartman Post #84 American Legion. He and his brother Harry activated the Columbus National Guard. He also worked part time at the Columbus Races.
He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Dorothy M. Brian

Dorothy M. Brian, 92, of Columbus died Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus. The family will be having having private services at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Omaha.

Dorothy M. Brian was born May 15, 1911 in Oskaloosa, Kansas to William and Luella Goucher. She grew up in Kansas and graduated from high school in Kansas City. She married Clyde Wayman Brian in Kansas City. They lived in Kansas City before moving to Omaha. She lived in Omaha until 1993 when she moved to Columbus following her husbands death. She was a homemaker and and also helped refinish several of her and her husbands rental properties in Omaha. She was an avid gardener and was a sponsor trainer for a horse riding club.

She is survived by two daughters; Dorothy (George) Ryck of Columbus and Dian (Paul) Wischmann of Lincoln.

Four Grandchildren

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, two sisters, and one half-sister.

Betty J. Hiemer

Betty Hiemer, 62, of Columbus lost her battle with cancer on Thursday, August 21, 2003 at Columbus Community Hospital. Services are 10: 00 a.m. Saturday; August 23, 2003 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Rev. Del Lape will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 4-8 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. A vigil will be held 7: 00 p.m. Friday evening also at the church. Visitation will continue Saturday morning 8: 00-9: 30 a.m. at the McKown Funeral Home.

Betty was born May 24, 1941 in Platte County to Howard & Evelyn (Sprunk) Gleeson. She lived on a farm south of Duncan and attended School District #16. She moved with her family to a farm in the Monroe area and graduated from Monroe High School. She then attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She married Myron G. Hiemer on November 29, 1968 in Columbus. She worked for Consumers Public Power (now NPPD) in various positions for several years. She then worked for R. W. Beck, Inc. for 32 years in various administrative positions until July 31, 2002. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Troy (Debbie) Hiemer of Columbus; one stepdaughter, Tammi (Rich) Hayes of Osceola; one stepson, Todd Hiemer of Lincoln; grandsons, Nathan and Kyle Hiemer, Nolan Hayes; granddaughters, Natalie Murphy and Tasha Hayes; one brother, Gerald (Karen) Gleeson of Monroe; brother-in-law, Willard (Loyola) Hiemer of Shelby; two sisters-in-law, Janet Hiemer and Coleen Agena of Lincoln and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William; one sister, Janice Walsh.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, St. Anthony Catholic Church or the donor's choice.

Evelyn Irene Seberger

Evelyn Irene Seberger, age 85, of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday August 23, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 11: 00 am Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at McKown Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Adams officiating. Visitation is on Monday from 5: 00 - 8: 00 pm at McKown Funeral Home and Tuesday from 8: 00 am until service time, also at the funeral home. Graveside services are 3: 00 pm Tuesday at Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association or to the donors choice.

Evelyn Irene Seberger was born December 16, 1917 in Big Stone, South Dakota to Ernest and Lydia (Speckeen) McDaniel. She grew up in South Dakota and moved to Nebraska when she was 15. Evelyn married Laurance Seberger on January 14, 1937 at Shelby, Nebraska. She worked various jobs and lived most of her life in Mead, Nebraska before moving to Columbus in 1982. Evelyn was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and canning.

She is survived by:

Frances Olafson

Frances Olafson, age 75, of Silver Creek, Nebraska died Wednesday August 27, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 10: 00 a.m. Saturday August 30, 2003 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek with Reverend Frank Jindra officiating. Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Silver Creek. Visitation is after 5: 00 p.m. Friday with a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Lawrence Church in Silver Creek. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 9: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. also at the church.

Frances Olafson was born January 16, 1928 in Silver Creek, Nebraska to Joseph P. and Rose (Jareske) Mecek. She grew up in Fullerton, Nebraska. She moved to Silver Creek during her high school years and graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1945. On May 29, 1950 she married Glen Olafson at St. Lawrence Church in Silver Creek. She was a homemaker and worked for D&L in Columbus for many years. She loved flower gardening. She was a member of St. Lawrence Church and past member of the St. Lawrence Altar Society.

Jack C. Fitch

Jack C. Fitch, age 64 of, Duncan Lakes died Tuesday; August 19, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Nebraska.

Jack Cloyd Fitch was born in Omaha, Nebraska on July 13, 1939 to Robert D. and Nadine (Cloidt) Fitch. He grew up in Holdrege, Nebraska where he graduated from high school in 1957. He attended Kearney State College, University of Nebraska and graduated from the Colorado School of Mines. Jack served in the United States Army from 1962- 1964. He was married to Mary Ella Smithson on September 14, 1964 in Holdrege, Nebraska. They lived in Glenwood Springs, Colorado until moving to North Platte. In 1980 they moved to Duncan Lakes. Jack was a longtime employee of Nebraska Public Power District where he worked as a land surveyor until his retirement in 1996. Jack also maintain a residence in Brewster, Nebraska where he owned and operated Arrowhead Surveying. Along with his private practice he served as the Blaine County Surveyor. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #323 in Brewster where memorial are directed to American Legion % Billy Guggenmos, HC 63 Box 19 Brewster, NE 68821

Christina A. Levos

Christina A. Levos, age 19 of Shelby, died Tuesday; August 5, 2003 at the University Medical Center in Omaha. Services 10: 30 a.m. Friday; August 8, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby. The Rev. John Rooney will officiate. Visitation is Thursday 4-8 p.m. at the church. A vigil will be held at 7: 00 p.m. Thursday evening also at the church. Visitation will continue Friday morning 9: 30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Christina A. Levos was born May 18, 1984 in Columbus, Nebraska to Eugene and Patty (Starzec) Levos. She has lived her entire live in Shelby. She graduated from Shelby High School in 2003. While in high school she was involved in volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, dance and music. She enjoyed swimming, stuffed animals and her kittys. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby.

She is survived by:

Rose C. Kurtenbach

Rose Catherine Kurtenbach, 97, of Columbus died Friday, August 15, 2003 at Countryside Home in Madison. Services are 10: 30 am Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Visitation is on Monday from 4-8 pm at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. There will be a Rosary at 4: 00 pm and a Vigil service at 7: 00 pm Monday, also at the church. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Rose Catherine Kurtenbach was born January 15, 1906 in St. Bernard, Nebraska to Michael and Gertrude (Cremer) Schaefer. She grew up there and on October 26, 1926 she married Anthony Kurtenbach in St. Bernard. Rose raised her family and worked as a housekeeper at various places. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Legion of Mary, Franciscan Missionary Union and the St. Bonaventure Ladies Guild. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and flowers.

She is survived by her children; Maynard (Margie) Kurtenbach of Omaha, Jean (Al) Beiermann, Joan (Ed) Heimann, Alvin (Elaine) Kurtenbach, and Kathy (Gerry) Engelbert, all of Columbus; 24 Grandchildren, 61 Great-Grandchildren, and 8 Great-Great Grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, a great-grandson Christopher Graham, 2 great-granddaughters Jill Kurtenbach and Angie Beiermann, 8 brothers; Chris, Matt, Frank, Bill, Ben, Joe, Nick, and Ted and 7 sisters: Isabelle, Susan, Josephine, Gertie, Lizzie, Clara, and Mary.

Anna M. Keefer

Anna M. Keefer, age 95, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday October 1, 2003 at Morys Haven. Funeral Services are 10: 00 a.m. Saturday October 4, 2003 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with the Reverend Del Lape & Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial is in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is 4: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Friday with a 4: 00 p.m. Rosary & a 7: 00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Saturday morning from 9: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. at the church.

Anna M. Keefer was born July 22, 1908 in Platte Center, Nebraska to John and Agatha (Kiolbasa) Kaipust. She married Herman T. Keefer on August 12, 1929 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center. They lived all their married life in Columbus. She worked at Columbus Laundry, Columbus Theatre and St. Anthony Rectory for many years. She was a member of St. Anthony Church and St. Theresa Sodality.

Irene Sprunk

Irene E. Sprunk, 79, died Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at Columbus Community Hospital. Services are 10: 00 am Saturday, August 30, 2003 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 3-6 pm at St. Isidore Catholic Church and on Saturday from 8-9: 30 am at McKown Funeral Home. There will be a Rosary on Friday at 4 pm at St. Isidore's and a Vigil service at 8 pm, also at St. Isidore Church. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Irene E. Sprunk was born September 1, 1923 in Clearwater, Nebraska to William and Anna (Kaster) Thiele. At an early age she moved to Columbus and graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1941. She worked at Loup Public Power from 1941-1951. On October 3, 1951 she married LeRoy Sprunk in Columbus. They lived on a farm in rural Monroe. She belonged to St. Isidore Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, music, flowers, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.
