Ruth Rohrich

Ruth Rohrich, 84, of Grand Island died Saturday August 2, 2003 at Bryan LGH-East in Lincoln. Services are 2: 00 p.m. Wednesday August 6, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center, Nebraska with Reverend Rod Kneifl officiating. Burial will be in the Ss Patrick/Joseph Cemetery rural Platte Center. Visitation is after 5: 00 p.m. Tuesday with a 7: 30 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 1: 00 p.m. - 2: 00 p.m. at the church.

Miss Rohrich was born June 9, 1919 in Butler County, Nebraska to William and Amelia (Miksch) Rohrich. She was a caregiver all her adult life. Ruth enjoyed flowers, gardening and baking.

She is survived by:

Three Nieces: JoAnn Hoffer of Columbus, Nebraska, Margie Williams of York, Nebraska and Janice Bonsak of Shelby, Nebraska

Two Nephews: Gene Scholz of Omaha, Nebraska and Jerome Scholz of Shelby, Nebraska.

She was preceded by:

Her parents, four sisters Mary, Rose, Anna and Bertha, three brothers Ed, Bill and John.

Irene A. Kubas

Irene A. Kubas, 73, of Silver Creek died Saturday, October 4, 2003 at Litzenberg County Hospital in Central City. Services are 10: 00 am Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. Visitation is after 5 pm Tuesday at St. Lawrence Church. There will be a Vigil service at 7: 00 pm Tuesday, also at the church. Visitation continues from 9 am until service time on Wednesday at the church. Interment is in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Irene A. Kubas was born January 16, 1930 in Polk County to Hubert and Paulina (Wieser) Bernt. She grew up on the farm in Polk County and attended country schools. She married Marion Kubas on April 11, 1961 in Silver Creek. She was a homemaker and enjoyed going to the horse races with her husband. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek.

Jacob C. Pocwierz

Jacob C. Pocwierz age 80 of Columbus, died Monday; October, 6, 2003 at his home in Columbus. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday; October 10, 2003 at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. The Rev. Mark Bridgman will officiate. Burial with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard will be in the All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 4-8 p.m. with a 7: 00 p.m. vigil services at the McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Friday morning 8: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Jacob Casmer Pocwierz was born October 28, 1922 in Stanton, Virginia to Casmer and Bertha (Keller) Pocwierz. He attended school in Brooklyn, New York and received his G.E.D. at Fort Benjamin, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and the Korean Conflict from 1941 - 1964 receiving the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Following his discharge from the service, Jacob worked at Behlen Manufacturing for 20 years until retiring in 1985. He was a member of the St. Bonaventure Church, Hartman Post #84 American Legion, and the V.F.W. #3704.

Mary Ellen Irwin

Mary Ellen Irwin, age 81, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday October 1, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held 11: 00 a.m. Monday October 6, 2003 at the McKown Funeral Chapel with Reverend Thomas Volker officiating. Burial will be in the Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus. The family will receive friends from 2: 00 p.m. - 5: 00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mary Ellen Irwin was born April 12, 1922 in Schuyler, Nebraska to Rudy and Ella (Booth) Greser. She received her education in Schuyler. On September 10, 1939 she was united in marriage to Cecil Irwin in Schuyler. The couple lived in Columbus, Chicago, Kentucky and St. Louis. They returned to Columbus in 1984. Mary Ellen previously worked for Becton-Dickinson and Schwesers.

Alphonse E. Kozak

Alphonse E. Kozak, 85, of Columbus died Saturday, September 27, 2003 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Services are 10: 30 am Wednesday, October 1 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Del Lape officiating. Visitation will begin on Tuesday at 5 pm at St. Anthony Church. There will be a Vigil service at 7: 30 pm Tuesday, also at St. Anthony Church. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Alphonse E. Kozak was born January 19, 1918 in Platte County to Peter and Catherine (Michalski) Kozak. He was raised and attended schools in Nance County. He married Helen Dubas. She passed away in 1948. On April 10, 1951 he married Leona Dubas in Fullerton. He farmed until 1978 then went to work at Behlen Manufacturing for 10 years. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, Holy Name Society, and the Knights of Columbus. He loved deer hunting, gardening, and polish music.

Funeral Services are 1: 00 p.m. Wednesday October 8, 2003 at St. Luke's Congregational Church - UCC in Columbus with Reverend Nancy Peebles officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Creston, Nebraska. Visitation is 5: 00 p.m. - 8: 00 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home and 12: 00 noon - service time Wednesday at the Church.

Ruth E. Hoffman was born December 24, 1927 in Leigh to Joseph & Kathe (Correll) Hanak. She married Miles Hoffman on October 26, 1947 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Creston. She lived most of her married life in Columbus. She was a homemaker and worked at Dale Electronics. Ruth enjoyed visiting friends and family. She was a member of St. Luke's Congregational Church-UCC, and the VFW Auxiliary.

Clarence W. Diederich

Clarence W. Diederich, age 89, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday September 19, 2003 at the Countryside Home in Madison, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday September 23, 2003 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Tom Weisbecker officiating. Burial is in the All Saints Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be from 3: 00 p.m. - 5: 00 p.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home and after 6: 00 p.m. Monday at the Church. A Vigil Service will be held at 7: 00 p.m. Monday at St. Bonaventure Church. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 8: 00 a.m. - 10: 00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Clarence W. Diederich was born January 18, 1914 in St. Bernard, Nebraska to Joseph and Helena (Kurtenbach) Diederich. He attended St. Bernard School. Clarence worked as a cook for the Civil Conservation Corp in Humboldt, Nebraska for 3 years. On June 29, 1937 he was united in marriage to Kathryn Parker at St. Mary's Church in Dawson, Nebraska. The couple moved to Detroit, Michigan where he worked as a tool & die machinist until 1961. They then moved to Humphrey, Nebraska where he owned & operated Diederich's Tavern until 1970 when they moved to Columbus. Clarence worked for Behlen Manufacturing in Columbus until retirement. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his lawn. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and perpetual adoration.

Deloras Cook, 65, of Monroe died Monday, September 22, 2003 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Services are 10: 30 am Thursday, September 25, 2003 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a Vigil service at 7: 00 pm, also at the funeral home. Visitation continues on Thursday from 8-10 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Deloras Cook was born February 8, 1938 in Omaha. She grew up in Madison, Nebraska and graduated from Madison High School in 1956. She married Norman Cook on February 23, 1957 in Madison. She lived her married life in Monroe where was a homemaker. She belonged to St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Her hobbies include gardening, dancing, reading, collecting antique glassware, and spending time with her family.

Gaylene Graham

Gaylene Graham, 69, of Columbus died Sunday September 14, 2003 at Columbus Community Hospital. Memorial services are 10: 30 am Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Bill Ritter officiating, Inurnment is in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9: 30 am until service time at the church.

Gaylene M. Graham was born May 2, 1934 in Columbus to Albert and Roxie (Fouts) Houser. She attended District 4 grade school and graduated from Kramer High School in 1951. She married Keith Graham on April 30, 1960 at the First United Methodist Church. She worked for George Ewert, B-D's, and was a homemaker prior to going to work for Vishay Dale Electronics, for whom she worked 26 years in the payroll/accounting office. She retired in 1999. She was a 4-H leader, member of the Hospital Auxiliary, a volunteer at the hospital gift shop, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren.
