Drexel "Andy" Engel

Drexel "Andy" Engel, age 79, of Silver Creek, Nebraska died Monday, March 8, 2004 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 2: 00 p.m. Wednesday March 10, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek with Reverend Bev Minor officiating. Burial will be in the Jackson Cemetery in Duncan with military honors by American Legion Post #263 Silver Creek. Visitation is from 1: 00 p.m. - 2: 00 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Drexel "Andy" Engel was born November 29, 1924 in Platte County, Nebraska to Frederick and Bertha (Johansen) Engel. He grew up in Silver Creek and graduated from Duncan High School. Andy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952. On September 26, 1953 he was united in marriage to Donna Faye Wyman in Silver Creek. Andy was a farmer/rancher in Merrick County and Craig County, Oklahoma. He also was a horse trainer and a cattle buyer for Swift Packing Company. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek and served on the Pastoral Committee. He was a member of the American Legion and the Horseman Breeders Professional Association.

Timothy McArthur

Timothy W. McArthur, 19, of Leigh/Columbus died Saturday March 24, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha. Memorial Services are 1: 30 pm Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.

Tim was born November 5, 1981 in Paramount, CA to Lloyd and Candy (Hempeck) McArthur. He lived in California until he was 11 when he moved with his father to Louisville, Kentucky. He moved to Leigh in July of 1995 where he attended school. He had lived and worked in Columbus. Tim enjoyed water sports.

Tim is survived by his parents, his Grandmother Rose Fogden of Leigh, one sister Kristal Lee McArthur of Sanger, CA, and one half-sister, Amy Shoppe of Long Beach, CA.

Ted Mimick

Theodore M. "Ted" Mimick, age 67 of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday May 21, 2001 at his home of natural causes.
Funeral Services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday May 25, 2001 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is after 6: 30 p.m. Thursday at St. Isidore Church. A Vigil Service will be held at 8: 00 p.m. Thursday at St. Isidore Church. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8: 00 a.m. until 10: 00 a.m. at McKown
Funeral Home in Columbus.

Ted Mimick was born February 6, 1934 in Columbus, Nebraska to Peter P. and Rose (Siemek) Mimick. He graduated from St. Bonaventure High School and received his Associates Degree in business from Platte College. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from October 1953 - September 1957. He then married Joan Mikkelsen on January 30, 1966 in Columbus. Ted lived in Columbus where he was a independent building contractor and he was the original developer of the Prairie Lane Sub Division in Columbus. He was a member of the Hartman Post #84 American Legion, V.F.W. Post #3704, the Eagles Club, 18 year member of Alcoholics Anonymous and was past president of Columbus Home Builders Association.

Arthur C. Magnuson

Arthur C. Magnuson, 84, of Columbus, died Friday, August 30, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Services are 10: 30 am Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 4: 00 - 8: 00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday morning from 9: 30 am until service time at the church. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.

Arthur C. Magnuson was born September 8, 1917 in Polk, Nebraska to Arvid and Anna (Johnson) Magnuson. His family moved to Columbus where he attended Columbus Public Schools. He attended aircraft mechanics school in Lincoln, Nebraska. Art worked in Buffalo, New York before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served during WWII from 1942 - 1946 serving stateside and in the Pacific Theatre. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Art returned to Columbus in 1947. He married Evelyn Fey on June 30, 1948 in Papillion, Nebraska. Art worked at Behlen Manufacturing from 1947 until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years and Hartman Post #84 American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening.

Clara T. Micek

Clara T. Micek, 89, of Omaha died Saturday February 23, 2002 at Mercy Care Center in Omaha. Funeral services are 10: 00 pm Wednesday February 27, 2002 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks with the Rev. Don Cleary officiating. Visitation will after 5: 00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Church in Clarks with a Vigil service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9 am until service time at the Church. Burial will be in the Clarks Cemetery.

Clara T. Micek was born April 28, 1912 in Genoa, Nebraska to John S. and Josie (Klimek) Tomasiewicz. She attended Nance County School. On November 15, 1937 Clara was united in marriage to Frank Micek at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church - Krakow, rural Genoa. The couple lived and farmed north of Clarks until Frank's death on August 15, 1961. Clara moved to Omaha for a short time before returning to Clarks where she was the housekeeper for Fr. John Korus. In 1965 she moved back to Omaha where she has resided since. While living in Omaha she was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, gardening, and her family.

Rev. Gerald C. Messman

Rev. Gerald C. Messman, age 97, of Lincoln, formerly of Duncan, Nebraska, died Friday; March 1, 2002 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday; March 5, 2002 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood, Nebraska with The Most Reverend Fabian W. Bruskewitz and the Very Reverend Robert A. Roh officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Cemetery in rural Bellwood, Nebraska. Visitation will be Monday after 5: 00 p.m. at the church in Bellwood. A rosary will be held at 7: 00 p.m. also at the church. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 9: 30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Rev. Gerald C. Messman was born August 15, 1904 in Zwevegkem- West Flanders, Belgium to Frank and Emma (Vervaecke) Messman. He attended boarding school in Belgium before beginning his college education. He studied Classics at St. Umandus-Courtrai, Belgium from 1920-25. He then attended Petit Leminaire Roulers from 1925-1927 where he studied Philosophy. From 1928-31 he attended American College in Louvain, Belgium. He was ordained July 12, 1931 at the American College by Rt. Rev. Bishop J. Murray for the Diocese of Lincoln. He began serving as Assistant Pastor in Hastings, Nebraska on September 14, 1931. He then served as Pastor in Benkelman, Stratton, Cambridge, Roseland and served the mission church in Logan all in southern Nebraska. On October 30, 1949 he was appointed Pastor of St. Peters Church in Bellwood. During his tenure in Bellwood the current church was built. On September 8, 1959 he was appointed Parish Priest Consultor. Rev. Messman retired to Duncan, Nebraska on July 1, 1975. He lived in Duncan until moving to Lincoln in 2001.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

Hilda Micek

Hilda Micek, 84, of Shelby died Saturday, September 14, 2002 at Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Funeral services are 10: 00 am Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in rural Bellwood. Visitation is after 5 pm Tuesday at St. Joseph Church with a vigil service at 7 pm, also at the church. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 9 am until service time at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Hilda L. Micek was born August 18, 1918 in Butler County, Nebraska to John and Minnie (Seidel) Poeffel. She received her education at Blue Mound Country School in Butler County. On February 24, 1941 she married Andrew Micek at St. Joseph Catholic Church in rural Bellwood. She her entire live in the Shelby area. Along with raising her family and helping on the family farm, she enjoyed gardening, crafts and baking. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph Altar Society.

Matthew William Moore

Matthew William Moore, 31, died Thursday July 10, 2003 at his home in Columbus. Funeral services are 9: 00 am Saturday, July 12 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark Bridgman officiating. Visitation is on Friday from 3-6 pm at McKown Funeral Home and after 7: 30 pm Friday at St. Bonaventure Church with a Vigil service at 8: 00 pm. also at the church. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 8 am until service time at the Church. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Columbus High Sports Booster Club.

Matthew William Moore was born August 29, 1971 in Columbus. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1990. He attended Platte College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Matt was employed by Dico's 13th Street Printing and the Columbus Telegram. He was an artist and enjoyed coaching midget football, girls softball, and little league baseball. He was a big time sports fan & enjoyed his nephews and niece.
