Retta G. Glaze, 97

(Nov. 18) CHADRON - Retta G. Glaze, 97, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Crest View Care Center in Chadron. She was born June 22, 1903, at Dawes County, Neb. Her parents were Dalson and Mary S. (St. Germaine) Homan. Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive her. Her sister, Olive Hass of Chadron, also survives her.

Mrs. Glaze's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, with Rev. Larry Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Gordon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Carol Lynn Stairs, 17

(Nov. 19) ALLIANCE - Carol Lynn Stairs, 17, died Saturday, November 17, at Box Butte General Hospital. She was born March 22, 1984, in Minneapolis, Minn. to Gary and Connie (Monroe) Stairs.

Her survivors are her parents, three sisters Emma Stairs, Cary and Donald Whattler, Shannon and Rolando Escamilla; and two brothers, Gary Stairs, Jr. and Kyle Stairs all of Alliance. She also is survived by her grandfather, Mark Monroe of Alliance; aunts and uncles, Hope and Keith Baker of Alliance, uncle Daryl and Tammy Monroe of Rosalie, three nephews, Donald Whattler, Jr., Christopher and Mathew Escamilla of Alliance; and all those who were blessed to know her on her short journey through this life. Two brothers, one sister and one nephew preceded her in death.

A wake and rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 19, at 128 South Potash. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Fr. Bryan Ernest officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 126, Alliance, NE 69301. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Burton R. Tracy, 75

(Nov. 19) AUSTIN, Minn. - Burton R. Tracy, 75, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at Franklin Health Care Center at Franklin, Minn. He was born June 11, 1926, at Wyville, Wis. His parents were Ernest and Bessie (Winter) Tracy.

He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1949 in the Phillipines and New Guinea. He married Melda Mracek of Alliance, July 3, 1946, at Denver, Colo. He worked as a plumber. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. He is survived by his wife, Melda "Boots" Tracy of the home; daughter LaVaughn Mullenbach of Brownsdale; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren. He also is survived by one brother, Bill Tracy of Bwloit, Wis.

Della Mae Fraser, 78

(Nov. 19) ALLIANCE - Della Mae Fraser died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Box Butte General Hospital. She was 78. She had lived in San Antonio, Texas, before moving to Alliance in September of 2002.

She was born April 20, 1924, at San Antonio, Texas, to Orville and Sarah (Trevino) Whitcomb. She married David W. Fraser on Feb. 13, 1970, at San Antonio, Texas. She was a member of the Eagles, the VFW Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edwin H. and Tracy Dunn of Dallas, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Marvin Gorsuch of Alliance, Neb.; son and daughter-in-law, Carlton and Lisa Fraser of Lititz, Pennsylvania; daughter and her partner, Christina Fraser and Heather of Chickamauga, Ga.; and daughter, Paula Fraser of Galveston, Texas. Twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive her. Her parents, one brother, and her husband preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at 10:15 a.m. at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at San Antonio, Texas. Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice, P.O. Box 21, Alliance, Neb. 69301. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Irene E. Russell, 90

(Nov. 20) GERING - Irene E. (Lanning) Russell, 90, former Box Butte County teacher, died Thursday, Nov. 16, at Northfield Villa in Gering. She was born May 31, 1910, at Hildreth. Her parents were Joy and Mary (York) Lanning.

She graduated from Alliance High School in 1928, and then taught school in rural Box Butte County. She was married to Francis W. Russell on Dec. 20, 1929, at Alliance. The couiple farmed in Banner County until 1943, then moved to Cheyenne, and then moved to Scottsbluff in 1950. She was a bookkeeper for many years, taught Sunday School, and served on several boards.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Federated Women's Club, Delphian Study Club and Gra-Mar Auxiliary, and was active in the Scottbluff Jaycee Senior Center.

She is survived by two sons, Elton Russell of Scottsbluff and Richard Russell of Clearwater, Fla.; her daughter, Barbara Eisenach of Mitchell; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.She also is survived by sister, Iris Houdyshell of Nampa, Idaho, and her brother Ronald Lanning of Pine Bluffs, Wyo.

Mrs. Russell's funeral will be at 10 a.m. today, Nov. 20, at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, with Rev. David Rowe officiating. Burial will be in Alliance City Cemetery. Memorials many be made to First United Methodist Church at Gering.

Charles W. "Chuck" Marlatt, 80

(Nov. 20) ALLIANCE - Charles W. "Chuck" Marlatt died Saturday, Nov. 18, at his home. He was 80 years old. He was born Feb. 3, 1920, to Charles L. and Allie L. (Wilson) Marlatt in Sterling, Colo. During WWII, he served in the United States Navy from 1941 through 1946.

He married Bertha Luft on March 3, 1946, at Sterling, Colo. He had lived in Alliance for the past 39 years where he retired as an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the United Transportation Union and the Amateur Radio League.

His survivors include his wife Bertha, son and daughter-in-law Chris and Diana Marlatt of Kearney, daughter Carolyn Shannon of Alliance, daughter Jill Marlatt and her companion Ed Adams of Dunn Loring, Va., and his daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Ken Kirchhoff of Fort Collins, Colo. Also surviving him are his grandchildren Allen Peltz and his wife Angie of Thornton, Colo., Butch Peltz and his wife Kim, Shannon Moran and her husband John and Lindsey Marlatt all of Kearney, Angela Shannon of Lincoln, Andrew Shannon of Alliance, Amy Kirchhoff, Betsey Kirchhoff and Brian Kirchhoff all of Fort Collins, Colo.; great-grandchild Morgan Peltz of Kearney and a nephew Lanny Marlatt of Santa Rosa, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and 1one sister.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Reverends Richard C. Mueller and Martin T. Schnare officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, with the family being present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice or the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Harvey "John" Humphrey, 72

(Nov. 20) CHADRON - Harvey "John" Humphrey, 72, died Saturday, Nov. 18, at Rapid City Regional Hospital, S.D. He was born April 20, 1928, at Pontiac, Mich. His parents were Thomas and Helen (McLardy) Humphrey.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Chadron; sons John Humphrey of Chadron and Edmund Humphrey of San Antonio, Texas; and four grandchildren. He also is survived by his brothers, Thomas Humphrey of Searcy, Ark., William Humphrey of Ft. Worth, Texas, Edward Humphrey of Clarkston, Maine, Addison Humphrey of Pontiac, Mich., and Kenneth Humphrey of Tawas, Mich.; and his sister, Allie Groth of Waterford, Mich.

Mr. Humphrey's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, with Rev. K.F. Kaleuati officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery at San Antonio, Texas. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.

Larry L. Hamaker, 72

(Nov. 20) CRAWFORD - Larry L. Hamaker, 72, died Friday, Nov. 17, at his home in Crawford. He was born Jan. 7, 1928, at Crawford. His parents were William Carl and Rose Mae (Childers) Hamaker.

He was a member of the Crawford Eagles Club and the Northwest Nebraska Shooters Club. His wife, Juanita, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Becky Chubb of Crawford; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He also is survived by his brother, Ray Hamaker of Crawford; and three sisters, June Blanton and Doris Hilderbrand, both of Crawford, and Rose Kuntz of Ft. Morgan, Colo.

Mr. Hamaker's funeral, with full military services provided by the Veterans Honor Guard, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the Congregational Church in Crawford, with Rev. Michael Stotts officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Legend Buttes Health Services of Crawford

Betty J. Coupens, 74

(Nov. 20) ALLIANCE - Betty J. Coupens, age 74, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Alliance. She was born Feb. 14, 1926, in Alliance to James Calvin and Nell (Davis) Annable.

Betty was a lifetime Alliance resident and worked for over 50 years as a beautician with many years operating her own salon. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and for many years was active in the C.C.D. Program, Ala-teens and the teen center. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Her survivors are children and their spouses, Mike and Peggy Coupens of Colorado Springs, Colo., Pat and Linda Coupens of Alliance, Susie and Junior Tritle of Alliance, Barb and Steve Moran of Grand Island, Neb., Evie and David Freimuth of Dayton, Ohio, brother, Richard Annable of Littletown, Pa., and sister Ruby Hill of Hot Springs, S.D. Sixteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren also survive her. Her parents, husband and 3 sisters preceded her in death.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, November 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Father Bryan Ernest will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A wake service will be Tuesday, at 7 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church. The family prefers memorials to St. Agnes Academy Foundation or to Good Samaritan Health Care Center. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John G. Lathrop, 77

(Nov. 20) CRAWFORD - John Garrett Lathrop died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at Boswell Hospital, Sun City, Ariz. He was born March 10, 1924, at Crawford. His parents were Wright W. and Lucille (Knapp) Lathrop.

He graduated from Crawford High School in 1942, and served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1945. He married Yuvonna Jean Hemingway Aug. 25, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1999. He worked for the Nebraska Department of Water Resources from 1954 to 1956, then was self-employed in several businesses. The couple moved to Sun City when he retired in 1990. He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles Club and Elks Club. He is survived by his sons, Dan Lathrop of Crawford and Joe Lathrop of Valley; and five grandchildren. He also is survived by one sister, Dode Harris of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Mr. Lathrop's memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Methodist Church at Crawford. Memorials have been established to the Crawford Fire Department, Prairie Prehistoric Development Center or the donor's choice.

Millie Miller, 93

(Nov. 20) SCOTTSBLUFF - Millie Miller, 93, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare in Scottsbluff. She was born April 28, 1908, at Frank, Russia to Adam and Emelia (Naeb) Heimbichner.

Her family immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in May 1914. She married Henry Miller in July of 1936. They moved to Alliance in 1965 coming from Bayard. She returned to Bayard 10 years ago and lived there until becoming a resident of Beverly Healthcare in 2000. Her survivors are her daughter Joyce Feese of Bayard; grandchildren, Douglas Worth, Cindy Worth-Benger, Sherry Worth-May and Pam Worth-Loeb; eight great-grandchildren. She also is survived by nine brothers and sisters. Her parents, husband, one brother and 2 sisters preceded her in death.

Private family services will be held with burial in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice or the Bayard Volunteer Fire Department. Bates-Gould Funeral Home of Alliance is in charge of arrangements.

Bruce Roberts, 47

(Nov. 21) CRAWFORD - Bruce Roberts, 47, died Sunday, Nov. 19, at his home in Crawford. He was born June 6, 1953, at Chadron. His parents were Charles and Lenita (Childers) Roberts.

He is survived buy his wife, Rosa Roberts of the home at Crawford; his father, Charles Roberts of Mesa, Ariz.; his sons, Benjamin Roberts and Clinton Roberts, both of Lincoln; and his daughter, Lenita Roberts of Crawford. He also is survived by two brothers, Rodger Roberts of Crawford and Rick Roberts of Hay Springs; and sister Janet Moore of Denver.

Mr. Roberts' funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, with Pastor Dan Williams. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made, in care of Security First Bank of Crawford.
