William Heinlein, 81

(Dec. 19) PASA ROBLES, Calif. - William "Bill" Heinlein, 81, formerly of Alliance, died Monday, Nov. 26, at Pasa Robles. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Jones) Heinlein, sons, Tom and Rob; and daughters, Gina, Rita, Amy and Jolene, all of California. Cards may be sent to the family at 632 Laura Way, Pasa Robles, CA 93446. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

Ed Farrenkopf, 88

(Dec. 19) BROOKFIELD, Mo. - Ed Farrenkopf, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Pershing Memorial Hospital at Brookfield. He was born Aug. 10, 1913, at Brookfield. His parents were John and Mary (Schaefer) Farrenkopf.

He married Helen Lisac July 22, 1935, at Marceline, Mo. She died Nov. 28, 1984. He married Mary Elizabeth Walsh-Lateau Feb. 22, 1997 at Brookfield. He graduated from Immaculate Conception School in 1929. He was a business owner and a real estate broker and salesman. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and Linn County Amateur Radio Club. He is survived by his wife Mary of Brookfield; one son Dennis of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; daughters Rita Schrock of Alliance and Joan Cochran of Wichita, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Mr. Farrenkopf's funeral will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, at the Immaculate Conception Church, with Fr. Thomas Duggan officiating. Burial is at St. Michael's Cemetery at Brookfield.

Alberta Jean Shockley Fankhauser, 70

(Dec. 20) CHADRON - Alberta Jean Shockley Fankhauser, 70, died Sunday, Dec. 17, at Chadron. She was born Dec. 18, 1929, at Crawford. Her parents were Thomas and Alma Shockley. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Fankhauser of the home in Chadron; five sons, Arnold Fankhauser and Larry Fankhauser, both of Chadron, Frederick Fankhauser of Waverly, Jim Fankhauser of Black Hawk, S.D., and Dan Fankhauser of Seattle; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She also is survived by brothers Joe Shockley of Denver and Clarence Shockley of Hudson, Wyo.; half-brother Jerry Emerson of Portland, Ore.; and half-sister June Parker of Hudson, Wyo.

Mrs. Fankhauser's memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 20, at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, with Pastor Red Romell officiating. Burial will be privately. Memorials may be made in care of Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337. Chamberlain Drabbels Funeral Home of Hay Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Tristan G. Huss infant

(Dec. 20) HEMINGFORD - Tristan George Huss, infant son of Dan and Jenna Huss of Hemingford, was born at rest on Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

Tristan is survived by his parents, sister Samantha Larson and brother Layne Larson, grandparents, Rob Huss of Hemingford, Sheila and Moose Walker of Alliance, Ed and Carri Parker of Mead, Colo., Bob Grant of Fort Collins, Colo., great-grandparents, Mary Ward of Logan, Utah, Fern Johnson and Pat Crouse of Alliance, Harold P. Johnson of Alliance, aunt and uncles, Kim and Steve Quick of Rifle, Colo., Dave Huss of Alliance and Devon Walker of Alliance, and numerous cousins.

Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Alliance Berean Church with Pastor Dave Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. Memorials may be given in care of the family at 640 CR 70, Hemingford, NE 69348. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dona F. Lickliter, 74

(Dec. 20) LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Dona Lickliter died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Sunrise Hospital. She was born on Aug. 28, 1928, at Alliance to Clifford and Faye (Gebhart) Hofmann.

She was married to Joseph Lickliter in May of 1943 at Pineville, Ky. She is survived by her children, Joanne (Gerald) Scott of South Pittsburg, Tenn., Steve (Diane) Lickliter of Hemingford, Marcia (Joel) Nissen of Las Vegas, and Douglas Lickliter of Hemingford; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her sisters Zoe Faber and Jerri Nyffler of Alliance, and Susan Hansen of Las Vegas; and brothers Bill Hofmann of Las Vegas and Monte Hofmann of Chadron. She was preceded in death by her husband, son David Lickliter, parents, sister Norma Hennings and brother Herbert Hofmann. After cremation, a celebration of life was held Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Las Vegas.

Arthur D. Wilder, 89

(Dec. 21) POTTER - Arthur Dale Wilder, 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Beverly Health Care in Sidney. He was born March 24, 1911, at Akron, Colo. His parenbts were Thomas John and Lily Grace (Sly) Wilder.

He married Pearl Rounds. They were divorced. On Aug. 23, 1952, he married Pauline Mae Nish at Hyannis. The couple resided at Dix before moving to Potter in 1959. Mrs. Wilder died in 1991. He worked for the railroad for more than 40 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Potter United Methodist Church and Historical Committee, and founding member of the Potter Senior Citizens Center. He also served a a Scout Master for five years.

He is survived by his two sons, Bill Wilder of Omaha and Allen Wilder of Longmont, Colo.; four daughters, Jane Hofeldt of Ainsworth, Donna Bruns of Sunol; Alrene Marshall of Vesta, Texas, and Joan Colberg of Perrysburg, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews in the Alliance-Crawford area.

Mr. Wilder's funeral was Monday, Dec. 18, at Potter United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mary Frohs officiating. Burial was in Potter Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Potter Senior Citizens Center or the Potter United Methodist Church.

Greg Jordan, 53

(Dec. 31) BAYARD - I, Greg "Jordy" Jordan, 53, of Bayard, passed away from this Earth on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at my home in Bayard with my family and friends by my side. I was born Gregory G. Jordan on December 2, 1949 at Alliance, Nebraska. My parents Warner Lee and Aldine (McNair) Jordan lovingly brought me into this world.

I attended school in Alliance, graduating from Alliance High School in 1968. I married the love of my life, Cheryl (Hight) Smith, on November 1, 1975 at the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff. We moved to Chadron where I was employed by KCSR Radio and the Chadron Record newspaper for a few years. We moved back to Bayard and I started to work for Great Western Sugar Company. I also managed the Bayard Wilbert Vault Company for ten years before going to work for the Morrill County Roads Department as a heavy equipment operator, a job I currently held. I was a lay reader and warden of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Bridgeport and I was serving as a west ward city councilmen for the City of Bayard. I was an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle rider and enjoyed the freedom of the open road. It has been said of me that I never knew a stranger. I leave to mourn my passing my loving wife of 27 years Cheryl (Hight) Jordan of Bayard; my son Jefferi Mark (Celeste) and their children Jadon and Jessie Smith of Bayard; my son James Dean Smith of Bayard and his children Landon, Trey, and Sara Smith of Pembroke Pines, Florida; my mother Aldine Jordan of Alliance; my sisters Joyce (John) Wauters of Burlington, Iowa and Sharyn (Jim) Rohm of Greeley, CO; my brothers Gary (Elaine) Jordan of South Hadley, Massachusetts and Brad Jordan of Alliance; my mother-in-law Shirley M. Hight of Bridgeport; my brother-in-law Mark (Donna) Hight of Cody, Wyoming; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, a host of friends, and my beloved dog Amos. My maternal and paternal grandparents, my father, and my father-in-law preceded me in death.

My body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 4, at The United Methodist Church in Bayard, with Mother Mary Lou Reynolds, Rev. Linda Battello, Rev. Joan Phillips, and Rev. Dottie Wolfe officiating. I strongly encourage everyone to dress comfortably and casually for the service. My ashes will be buried at the Chimney Rock Cemetery south of Bayard following the memorial service. Instead of sending flowers, please make memorial contributions to Prairie Haven Hospice or to my family so they can designate a memorial at a later date. The Jolliffe Funeral Home of Bridgeport is in charge of my arrangements.

Betty Ann Kleensang, 73

(Dec. 31) ALLIANCE - Betty Ann Kleensang, 73, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Box Butte General Hospital after a long hard fought battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 10, 1929, to Henry and Anna (Armbrust) Nickels of rural Hay Springs.

She received her education in Hay Springs and then went to Rapid City, S.D., where she received her degree in business. Betty met Virgil Kleensang when he came west and worked for her father Henry Nickels. They were married March 10, 1950 at Alliance. They made their home in Wayne County, Nebraska. In 1955 they moved back to Hay Springs on the Nickels Ranch where they are to date. To this union three children were born, David, Linda, and Alan. She is survived by her husband Virgil; son and daughter-in-law, David and Bernita Kleensang; and daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Leonard Smith, all of Hay Springs. Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Becky, Candace and Colby Kleensang, Jackie Smith, Lynden Smith, Sarah and husband Jon Kah, Lucas and wife Jamie Smith and great-grandson Nathan. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son Alan.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 3 at Zion Lutheran Church at Hay Springs, with Pastor Michael Wittrock officiating. Burial will be in the Hay Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice at P.O. Box 21, Alliance, NE, 69301. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Marion E. Kamerzell, 80

(Dec. 30) HEMINGFORD - Marion E. Kamerzell, 80, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at the Hemingford Community Care Center. He was born Dec. 2, 1922, at Melbeta, to John and Katherine (Temple) Kamerzell.

His family moved to Bennett County, South Dakota in his early childhood where he grew up on a farm and attended Martin, S.D. schools. He graduated from Bennett County High in 1940. He served in the Marine Corps during WWII in the South Pacific and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. He received and honorable discharge in September of 1945. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company from the time of his discharge until his retirement. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, John and Sherrilyn Kamerzell of Vacaville, Calif., James and Mary Kamerzell of Tucson, Ariz., and David and Jeanne Kamerzell of Windsor, Calif.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his brother James of Gordon; sisters, Geraldine of Littleton, Colo., and Barbara of Gladstone, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Bates-Gould Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Mercer officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

LeVora T. Rodgers, 91

(Dec. 30) VALENTINE - LeVora T. Rodgers, 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Pine View Good Samaritan Center. She was born Nov. 3, 1911, at Springfield, Mo., to Garnet Eugene and Clara (Hancock) Townley.

She was a business woman and gift shop owner. She is survived by her daughter, Patsie Horner of Valentine; granddaughter Terrie Carr of Valentine; grandsons, David Horner of Texas and Daniel Horner of New York; great-grandsons, Robert, Thomas and Charlie Carr of Valentine, A.J. and Jace Horner of Texas, and Daniel and Dylan Horner of New York. She also is survived by her nephews Lee Abbott of Hawaii and James Abbott of Arizona, both formerly of Alliance. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Rodgers; and sister, Eugenia T. Abbott.

Family graveside services were held Friday, Dec. 20, at the Alliance Cemetery. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was in charge of arrangements.

Esther B. Covalt, 93

(Dec. 30) BRIDGEPORT - Esther B. Covalt, 93, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Heritage of Bridgeport. She was born Sept. 11, 1909, to Nelson and Bessie (Laird) Waggoner on the family farm at Peru.

She came to Broadwater with her parents in 1917. She attended Broadwater schools graduating with honors in 1928. She attended Peru State Teachers College and received her teachers certificate in September of 1928. She taught the Silverthorn School in 1929 and District 151 in 1930. On May 30, 1930, she was married to Floyd G. Covalt. They ranched with his father until 1937, when they moved to their own ranch where they lived until his death in 1986. She moved to Bridgeport in 1987 and to The Heritage of Bridgeport in 1999. She was well known throughout the quarter horse world. She was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Assn. and a charter member of the Nebraska Quarter Horse Assn. She and her husband raised quarter horses for fifty years. She attended many shows each year in several states and they sold their horses in forty-nine states, England, Scotland and Canada. She enjoyed many community activities belonging to extension, card clubs and especially enjoyed helping with the Morrill County 4-H Horse Club in local, district and state shows. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Broadwater. She is survived by her son, Phillip (Peggy) Covalt of Broadwater; seven grandchildren, Dallas and Tammy Covalt of Broadwater; Ronda and Paul Yates of Lodgepole; Valerie and David Furman of Eaton, Colo.; Terry and Robert Rothwell of Hyannis; Lee and Steve Welsh of Flagstaff, Ariz.; June and Tom Cooper and Lori Olsen of Denver, Colo.; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, She also is survived by her brother-in-law, Lewis Covalt of Angora and sister-in-law, Stella Weber of Longview, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Evelyn (Sally), parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Covalt's funeral will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 30, at Messiah Lutheran Church at Broadwater, with Pastor John Reinmuth and Ann Bairn, PMA officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Broadwater. Memorials have been established to Rose Hill Cemetery or to the Bridgeport Rescue Unit.

Sister Ann Mary Connors, 95

(Dec. 30) ALLIANCE - Sister Ann Mary Connors 95 died Saturday, December 28, 2002 at Marian Residence. She was born April 10, 1907 in Minot, N.D., to Mathew and Mary (Lydon) Connor.

She graduated from Minot High School in 1925. She received her BA degree from Marycrest College at Davenport, Iowa. She then attended Minot State College, Creighton University, Marquette University and received her MA degree from Regina Mundi in Rome, Italy. She professed her final vows as Sister of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity on Aug.12, 1929. She began teaching in 1934,in Columbus, Ohio. She then continued teaching in West Virginia, New York, North Dakota. In 1943 she moved to Marycrest at Denver, Colo., and was a provincial secretary until 1960 when she resumed teaching in Nebraska and North Dakota. She retired in 1983 in Denver, and moved to Alliance in 1996. Her five brothers preceded her in death. She is survived my numerous nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Marian Residence, with Fr. Bryan Ernest officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 1, at Marian Residence. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
