Ina Nelson
GORDON — Ina Nelson, 87, Gordon, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Wesleyan Gospel Church in Gordon with Pastor Ruby Long officiating. Interment will be at the Gordon Cemetery. Memorials can be given to the donor’s choice. Chamberlain-Cicmanec Mortuary of Gordon is in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 3, 1910, in Cottonwood, S.D. to Julius and Mercie (Ogden) Frohman. She moved with her parents to Sheridan County in the 1920s. After her marriage to Fred “Fritz” Nelson, she lived in California. She returned to the Gordon area prior to his death.
She had worked in a Gordon drug store as a sales clerk for many years.
She was a member of the Wesleyan Gospel Chapel and the Gordon Good Samaritan Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Neva Frohman, Folson, Calif.

Ellwood L. Ziegler Sr.
DENVER — Ellwood L. Ziegler Sr., 73, died Feb. 7, 1998, in Denver. Services were held Feb. 11 at University Hills Lutheran Church with interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Memorials can be given to Denver Lutheran High School, 3201 W. Arizona, Denver, Colo., 80219, or Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado, 7535 E. Hampden Ave., Suite 310, Denver, Colo., 80231.
He was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Chicago and spent the last 71 years of his life as a resident of Denver. After participating in the battles of Leyte Gulf and Pelellieu on the USS Kadashan Bay, he was honorably discharged at the conclusion of World War II from the U.S. Navy as a Baker 1st Class. Ellwood married Bonnie Avis Shields May 12, 1947, in Denver. They celebrated their 50th anniversary last May.
Survivors include his wife Bonnie; son Dr. Woody Ziegler and wife Amy, York, Neb.; daughter Karen Anderson, Portland, Ore., Dr. Rob Ziegler and wife Susie, Scottsbluff, Neb.; Tim Ziegler and wife Sheryl, Lincoln, Neb.; Tina Schettler and husband Michael, Aurora; 12 grandchildren; sister Mrs. Joan Bolle, Littleton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.

Wayne R. Ayers
SCOTTSBLUFF — Wayne R. Ayers, 88, of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home Chapel, with the Pastor Brian Zinck officiating. Inurnment will be at the Mitchell Valley Cemetery south of Mitchell. Jones Mortuary in Mitchell is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born in Scottsbluff to Daniel and Lillie (Garner) Ayers on Nov. 15, 1910. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1928. He married Ethel A. Littlejohn in 1933. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. They moved to Sidney in 1947, where he was in the insurance business for many years.
He was a member of the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sidney and of the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff since 1995. He enjoyed a long life and a host of friends in Sidney and in Scottsbluff. He was loved and will be missed.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Bill Zinck of Shell Knob, Mo.; two grandchildren Brian Zinck of Sallisaw, Oka. and Dana Phibbs of Tulsa, Oka.; and five great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Ethel in 1995.

Steven Thomas Brooks
SCOTTSBLUFF — Steven Thomas Brooks, 57, of Scottsbluff, was called to Glory while resting at his own home surrounded by the love of God, his wife and brothers and sisters in the Lord, Feb. 9, 1999, after a short but valiant battle with cancer. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park. The family requests no flowers as a memorial has been established to the Steve Brooks Memorial Fund. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
He was born to Chester and Sara Louise (Olson) Brooks Dec. 30, 1941, at Torrington, Wyo.
Music was his love since the age of nine. As his career in music grew, he had several country music bands over the years and recorded and released a number of records from Nashville and recording studios of his own in Torrington and Scottsbluff, as well as touring the midwest and south west with his bands. The last twelve years of his life were spent committed to his call to be a Prophet of God and sharing the Truth in both word and song.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Elaine (Johnson) Brooks; two sons Steven Chester Brooks and wife Danielle and Rebel Dean Brooks, both of Ogden, Utah; two daughters Spring Renee Smith and her husband Jason of Rock Springs, Wyo. and Melody Margret Brooks of Brigham City, Utah; two stepsons James Wesley Huper and Brent Allen Huper and his wife Toni of Gering; one stepdaughter Kathy Sue Lovan and husband David of Springfield, Ore.; parents Chester Brooks and Sara Louise Brooks of Torrington, Wyo.; three brothers Roger and his wife Mary of Brandon, S.D., Monty and his wife Twila of Scottsbluff, and Samuel Brooks and his wife Jo of Torrington, Wyo.; one sister Mikey James of Columbus, Ind.; fifteen grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends, brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Donald E. Clark
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Donald E. Clark, 65, of Torrington, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at the Bethel Baptist Church, with Pastor Rick Carroll officiating. Military burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Memorials directed to the Bethel Baptist Church or to the Lighthouse Ministries would be appreciated by the family. The Colyer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born on Aug.15, 1933, in Rockeagle, Wyo. the son of Edward and Lillian (Richardson) Clark. He attended school in Veteran, Wyo. and graduated from Veteran High School in 1951. He went on to attend the University of Wyoming and was a member of Gamma-Alpha Chapter in Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1961. He was awarded Sharpshooter in 1953; a Korean Service Medal in 1953; a United Nations Service Medal in 1953; a National Defense Medal in 1953; and in 1954, he was promoted to Corporal. He married Betty Rexius in 1953, in Greeley, Colo. and they were later divorced. In 1973, he married Juneil (Jill) Schamp in Torrington, Wyo. He worked most of his life as a Surveyor at South Goshen Soil Conservation District in Torrington.
He was a member of the Sunnyside Baptist Church in Cheyenne and an active member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Connie and Dennis Wiedeman of Gering; three sisters and brothers-in-law Lois and Bob Waggoner, Janice and Herman Domson, all of Torrington, and Marilyn and Bill Howell of Algonac, Mich.; stepdaughters Dawn Obert, Kim Applebee, Sundy West and Darla Schamp; stepson Travis Kent; two grandchildren; ten stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Grant Edward Clark and a brother Bob Clark.

Emery ‘Tack’ Conway
SCOTTSBLUFF — Emery “Tack” Conway, 86, of Ogallala, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, in Scottsbluff. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Gubser Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Carlton officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery, with military honors graveside. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Gubser Funeral Home in Ogallala is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Nov. 21, 1912, at Mt. Vernon, Mo. the son of Andrew and Lillie (Mullens) Conway. He came to this area as a young boy and worked for farmers and ranchers in the area before enlisting in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Following his discharge he returned to the Ogallala area and continued his work on area farms and ranches until his retirement.
He was a member of the V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn Conway of Ogallala; one son Darrell Conway of Bridgeport; two daughters Connie and husband Rob Santagelo of Pennsylvania and Pat and husband Rollie Albro of Ogallala; one stepdaughter Phyllis and husband Virgil Beavers of North Platte; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charles Hawkins
SIDNEY — Charles Hawkins, 78, a longtime Sidney area resident, died Monday morning, Feb. 8, 1999, at Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney, with Pastor Richard Bahnson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, with military graveside honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Gehrig and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Carl Kling
SCOTTSBLUFF — Carl Kling, 85, of Scottsbluff, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, with the Rev. Doug Human officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Friends who wish may call at the funeral home today from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., and at the funeral. A memorial has been established to the Church of the Nazarene in Scottsbluff.
He was born May 13, 1913, at Breman, Germany to George and Sophie (Stump) Kling. At an early age, he moved with his family to Scottsbluff where he grew up and received his education at rural Scottsbluff schools. He married Mildred Bauer on October 28, 1933, at Bridgeport. He worked for Great Western Sugar for 13 years before working for the City of Scottsbluff as a welder for 37 years until his retirement. In 1960, he built the time capsule which is on display at the Scottsbluff Public Library and will be opened in the year 2000. He had resided in Scottsbluff all of his life.
He is survived by his wife Mildred Kling of Scottsbluff; sons and daughters-in-law Kermit and Patricia J. Kling of Scottsbluff, Bernard and Jean Kling of Oshkosh, Jerold and Linda Kling of Scottsbluff, and Gordon and Shirley Kling of Scottsbluff; daughter Nancy Shaw of Potter; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Carl Roger Kling, three brothers and three sisters.

Robert ‘Bob’ Peter Nelson
BRIDGEPORT — Robert “Bob” Nelson, 86, of Bridgeport, died Feb. 8, 1999, at Heritage of Bridgeport. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12 at Redington Community Church, with the Rev. Richard Parker and Associate Pastor Don Notz officiating. Burial will be in the Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery at Bridgeport. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel, with the family being present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2813, Bridgeport Rescue Unit or the donor’s choice.
He was born June 18, 1912, at Potter to Peter and Florence (Herboldsheimer) Nelson. He graduated from Potter High School. He was united in marriage to Alby Rose Kubes on Jan. 9, 1934, at Julesburg, Colo. The couple moved to the Redington valley in 1938. He loved their Angus cattle, Cheyenne County wheat farm, motor home camping, farming and drives with his wife. One of the most memorable times in their married lives was a six week trip to Alaska in 1975.
He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2813 in Bridgeport, a director of Federal Land Bank Board of Cheyenne County, Good Sams of North Platte, Box Butte Sams of Alliance and 4-Fun Sams of Bridgeport.
He is survived by his brother Roy Nelson of Sidney; sister Myrtle Smith of Sidney; sons and daughters-in-law Don and Gloria Nelson of Yoder, Wyo., Coly Nelson of Sidney, Bart and Arlene Nelson of Glenrock, Wyo., Jerry and Linda Nelson of North Platte and Ward and Barb Nelson of Bridgeport; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alby, son Roger, two sisters and an infant grandson.

Rick Rhoades
DENVER, Colo. — Rick Rhoades, 47, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Scottsbluff, died Feb. 8, 1999, in Denver. Funeral arrangements are pending at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff.

Johnny Schmidt
SCOTTSBLUFF — Johnny Schmidt, 76, of Scottsbluff, died Feb. 8, 1999, at Regional West Medical Center. Memorial services are pending at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff.

John Willard Wright
KIMBALL — John Willard Wright, 24, died Feb. 8, 1999, west of Kimball. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball, with the Rev. Jack Sample officiating.
Burial will be at the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10 at the Cantrell Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to the John Willard Wright memorial fund.
He was born Aug. 21, 1974, in Alliance, son of Ellen and James
Wright. He graduated from Hyannis High School. He worked in the Hyannis area as a ranch hand and in TV repair. He had also served in the U.S. Navy. He moved to Kimball in November 1997, and worked for ASI and Beef & Brunch. He and Christine Carlson were married on October 30, 1998. John and Christine are expecting a child in July.
He is survived by his wife Christine of Kimball; his parents Ellen and James Wright of Hyannis, Neb.; brothers Marvin Wright, Michael Wright, William Wright, James Wright, Charlie Wright and Larry Wright; sisters
Betsy Wright, Rose Smith, Pam Wright, Retta Skillings, Theresa Kirkpatrick and Lila Mae Proctor; grandparents John and Verla Bohac of Kimball; mother-in-law and her husband Trudi and Toby Madrid of Kimball; and father-in-law and his wife Gene and Denise Carlson of Greeley, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Allen Wright.
