Harold B. Wenburg

LEXINGTON — Harold B. Wenburg, 96, of Lexington died Dec. 7, 1997, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

He was born icon March 16, 1901, at Fullerton to John H. and Hilma Linden Wenburg. He grew up in the Oconto area and he had lived in the Cozad and Lexington areas since 1919.

On April 22, 1946, he married Elizabeth Wilson at Norton, Kan. She preceded him in death on Aug. 21, 1997.

Mr. Wenburg farmed for 25 years prior to driving truck for area hay mills, retiring in 1970. He enjoyed yard work and gardening and being with family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Margie (Tom) Nelson of Lexington; five sons, Harold (ReNelda) Wenburg of Cozad, Floyd (Alice) Wenburg of Lexington, Kenneth (Juanita) Wenburg of Elm Creek, Kenneth (Mary) Statler of Desert Center, Calif., and Gary (Linda) Statler of Westminster, Colo.; a brother, John of Cozad; 24 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two sons, a grandson, his parents and two brothers.

Memorials are suggested to the Plum Creek Care Center at Lexington.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington, which is in charge.

Ralph Oatis Wooter

ARTHUR — Ralph Oatis Wooters, 79, died Dec. 7, 1997, at his home in Arthur.

Survivors include a daughter, Cinda (Bill) Ross of Garden City, Kan.; two sons, Gerald (Linda) of Ponca City, Okla., and Dale (Connie) of Henderson, Nev.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Stutzman of Broken Bow, Velma (Vern) Ims of Pharr, Texas, and Florence (Jim) Riley of Geneva, Ill.; two brothers, Frank (Una Jae) of Sacramento, Calif., and Eldon “Bud” (Charlotte) of Lincoln; and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, in 1996; his parents; a baby sister; and two brothers, Melvin and Wayne.

Memorials have been established to Home Health Care and the Arthur County Rural Fire and Ambulance.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Arthur Baptist Church with the Rev. Glendon Epp officiating. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 1-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala, which is in charge.

Virginia Lee ‘Ginger’ Bryant

Virginia Lee “Ginger” Bryant, 65, of North Platte died Jan. 8, 1998, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

She was born icon Oct. 3, 1932, at Dalton to Harry Clyde and Mary Matilda Robb Swain. She was raised by Charlie and Minnie Bowen as her foster parents after her mother died in July 1936. She graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1952.

On May 24, 1958, she married Boyd Bryant in Oshkosh. The couple lived in Sarben until January 1965, when they spent a short time in Omaha. They moved to North Platte in September 1966.

Mrs. Bryant was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Military Order of Cooties Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Moose, Eagles and American Legion auxiliaries. She loved camping, fishing and traveling.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Rebecca (Robert) Wyatt of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Susan (Richard) Arellano of Sidney; a son, Charles (Yvette) Bryant of Loveland, Colo.; three sisters, Rose Estes of Pasco, Wash., June Weller of Commerce City, Colo., Mary Anne (Elmer) Raddatz of Lincoln; two foster sisters, Ella May McConnick of Oshkosh and Blanch Monroe of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, Clyde (Jane) Swain of Sprague, Wash., and Howard (Toots) Swain of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Gladis Sexon of Mullen; and two grandchildren, Anthony D. Wyatt and Alissa S. Arellano.

She was preceded in death by her parents and foster parents; two brothers, Lynn and John; and a foster sister, Dolly Wickham.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. CT Monday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. MT Monday at the Paxton Cemetery at Paxton.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.

Sonia S. Delahunty

GOTHENBURG — Sonia Delahunty, 36, died Jan. 7, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born icon March 2, 1961, at Cozad to Milford and Dorothy Barth Jacob. She graduated from Cozad High School in 1979 and attended Kearney State College. She was a graduate of Queen Anne’s Beauty Academy at Kearney.

On Aug. 6, 1983, she married Tom E. Delahunty and they made their home in Kearney for a brief time before moving to Gothenburg. They later moved to their present homesite southeast of Gothenburg. She had been employed with His and Hers Hair Studio in Gothenburg.

Mrs. Delahunty was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and the Altar Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Mothers of Pre-Schoolers.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Christopher and Joseph, both at home; her mother, Dorothy Jacob of Cozad; three brothers, Gary (Connie) Jacob, Raymond (Carol) Jacob and Randy (Kathy) Jacob, all of Cozad; a sister, Linda (Dirk) Greene of Imperial; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Valetta and Tom Delahunty of Gothenburg.

She was preceded in death by her father.

A memorial has been established.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Gothenburg. The casket will not be open at the services.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Don O’Brien as celebrant. Burial will be in the Willow Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. today at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

Sara Marie Lowe

PLANO, Texas — Sara Marie Lowe, a native of North Platte, died Jan. 6, 1998, in Plano, Texas. She was 20.

She was born icon Oct. 26, 1979, in North Platte.

A 1996 graduate of Plano East Senior High, she was planning to attend college in the spring to study computer science. She was employed with VIDA-Tech in Richardson, Texas.

Miss Lowe is survived by her parents, Michael and Gail Lowe of Plano; a sister, Jennifer Lowe of Plano; grandparents, Ruth Giesenhagen of North Platte and Wayne and Bonnie Bayliss of Indianola; and aunts and uncles, Stephen Lowe, Debra and Steve Thalken, Susan and Merle Stillwell, Steve and Cindy Bayliss, and Marvin and Roy Bayliss.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ted Dickey Funeral Home in Plano.

Dennis W. Shimmin

OGALLALA — Dennis W. Shimmin, 59, of Ogallala, died Jan. 7, 1998, at the Regional West Medical Center at Scottsbluff.

He was born icon on July 17,

1938, at Mullen to Bruce W. Shimmin and Elma M.

Zickefoose Shimmin.

He was baptized when he was 13 in the Dismal River after a Country Revival Meeting. He attended Sunday School at a country school house. He later joined the Methodist Church in Crawford and transferred to the Lewellen United Methodist Church.

He attended several country schools in McPherson County and graduated from McPherson County High School at Tryon in 1955. He worked his way through college at Kearney State and graduated in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in education, majoring in music and minoring in history.

He taught music at Genoa for two years. Then he and the superintendent both moved to Crawford where he taught for a year.

He became interested in western and frontier history at Ft. Robinson State Park. He worked for Horace Mann Insurance Co. a short time before becoming assistant superintendent at Ft. Robinson State Park in 1966.

The Nebraska park system was expanding and they purchased the area which is now Ash Hollow State Historical Park. Mr. Shimmin applied for and was appointed the superintendent there in June 1968 and served as its only superintendent. He started cleaning, developing plans and organizing archaeological work. The highlight was the opening of the new visitor center in 1978.

On June 9, 1973, he married Rita Dikeman at Lewellen, where they lived until August 1997 when they moved to Ogallala.

He was a past member of the board of directors of the Garden County Community Foundation and the Lewellen Branch of the Volunteers of America. He was a member of the Nebraska State Historical Society, the Oregon-California Trails Association, the Lewellen United Methodist Church and was on the board of directors of the Nebraska National Trails Museum.

Mr. Shimmin had many interests including rebuilding old engines, being part of the community choir, his green house and especially the history of Nebraska and the Oregon Trail.

Survivors include his wife, Rita, of Ogallala; his parents and one brother, Riley, (Carolyn) Shimmin of Livingston, Mont.; a nephew, Kory (Rachelle) Shimmin of Great Falls, Mont.; a niece, Kristy (Jack) Fish and a great nephew, Jacob Fish, of Lincoln, Mont.; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, David, in 1966.

Memorials have been established to the Lewellen Volunteers of America and the United Methodist Church of Lewellen.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Lewellen United Methodist Church with the Revs. Joy and Rich Savage officiating. Burial will be at the Ogalalla Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Visitation will be Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Draucker Funeral Home.

Draucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mark William Colborn

Mark William Colborn, 73, of North Platte died Jan. 6, 1998, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

He was born icon July 2, 1924, at Palmer to Mark Eugene and Clarice Mahalia Bartholomew Colborn. He grew up in the Palmer and Stanton area and graduated from Stanton High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in October 1942 and was discharged in December 1945.

He returned to the Stanton area before going to Colorado to attend college. He graduated from Colorado School of Mines with a degree in mechanical engineering.

On Dec. 20, 1951, he married Margaret Marie Fosler at Lincoln. They lived in Colorado until 1959, when they moved to Lincoln. She preceded him in death in June 1971.

Mr. Colborn worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads, and in November 1975, he moved to North Platte to be district traffic engineer.

On Dec. 31, 1975, he married Judith Hunting in Lincoln and she soon joined him in North Platte.

He retired from the Nebraska Department of Roads in July 1989.

He was a past member of the IOOF Walla Walla Lodge and a special buddy to “Reuben” and “Cinder.” He also volunteered at the Lincoln Connection.

Survivors include his wife, Judith “Judy” of North Platte; three sons, Steven (Patricia) Colborn of Sandy, Utah, Lee (Cristina) Colborn of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Bill (Viola) Hunting of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Joan (Kevin) Poole of Elmwood; two brothers, John and Robert Colborn, both of Lincoln; two sisters, Jeanne Steinshouer of Lafayette, Colo., and Mae Hoffman of Fort Collins, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, Brian, Brad, Mark, Cristopher, Ashley, Richard, Rachael, Stacy, Jason and Katrina; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Maggie and Madeline; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Ardyth Boyles, Rene Renshaw, Maxine Baer and Doris Whalen.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church with Dr. Howard E. Grant Jr. officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, with military honors by the North Platte Veteran’s Organization.

Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Odean Colonial Chapel at C and Sycamore and prior to services at the church Friday.

Josephine ‘Josie’ Druery

Josephine “Josie” Barbara Druery, 77, of North Platte died Jan. 6, 1998, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Ore.

She was born icon Oct. 24, 1920, at Elgin to George William and Katherine Augusta Reicks Baumgartner. She grew up on a farm south of Sutherland and attended country school.

She married Cecil Clyde Osborne and they lived in Sutherland.

In February 1947, she married John Wolsey Druery at McCook. They made their home in North Platte, where she had lived since. In April 1997, she went to live with her oldest daughter in Eugene.

Mrs. Druery was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Geraldine (Ray) Lawson of Eugene, Donna (Ronald) Sorden of Cinebar, Wash., and Joyce (Brian) Howard of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Leonard Baumgartner of Hastings and Ted (Margaret) Baumgartner of Stapleton; two sisters, Alfreda Bourg of Roseland and Rita Schroeder of Omaha; nine grandchildren, Terry, David and Debbie Stiles, Larry and Dan Sorden, Ronda Waggoner, Sara Monsees, Karenann “Kay” Hernandez and John Howard; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; a sister, Margaret Pohl; and two brothers, Ben and John Baumgartner.

A memorial has been established for the Scleroderma Foundation, 89 Newburry St., Danvers, MA 01973.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C and Sycamore.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski Jr. as Celebrant. Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C and Sycamore.
