Everett Clayton Eggert
SAN MATEO, Calif. — Everett Clayton Eggert, 72, former area resident, died Jan. 4, 1998, in San Mateo, Calif.
He was born
Aug. 11, 1925, on the family homestead north of Paxton in Arthur County to George Henry and Mary Catherine Thun Eggert. In 1930, the family moved to a farm north of Hershey. At the age of 15, following his father’s death, he took full responsibility for his mother and brother.
The family also lived on farms around North Platte and they later moved to a farm north of Sutherland.
Mr. Eggert loved flying and got his pilot license at Trego Aviation in North Platte. He enjoyed farming, duck hunting and milking his herd of dairy cattle. He also gave freely of his time and love to his many nieces and nephews.
In 1963, he moved to California, where he married Maria Ziegiler of Germany on May 12, 1970. He worked for the San Mateo Times. Following his retirement, he worked for the Mercedes Benz Co. and parttime for the San Mateo Times.
He was a devoted husband and father. He had a great love for his native Nebraska and returned whenever possible to visit family and friends.
Surviving him is his wife; a son, Christopher of Los Angeles; two sisters, Mildred Lunkwitz of North Platte and Thelma Guthard of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Russell (Margorie) Eggert of Lemoyne; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Raymond, George and Joe, who died Dec. 29, 1997.
The body was cremated. Memorial services will be at a later date in San Mateo.

Geraldine Neese
VENANGO — Geraldine Neese, 70, former postmaster at Venango, died Jan. 6, 1998, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Denver.
She was born
Aug. 28, 1927, at Holyoke, Colo. She grew up near Venango and graduated from Venango High School in 1945. She attended the University of Nebraska for two years.
On June 18, 1947, she married Marvin Neese at St. Francis, Kan. They made their home in the Venango community the rest of their lives. He preceded her in death in 1988.
Mrs. Neese retired as Venango postmaster in 1989, after working for the postal service for 43 years.
She was a member of the Venango Community Church and the Venango American Legion Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Ronnie.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Venango Community Church with Pastor Eugene Layne officiating. Burial will be in the Venango Cemetery.

Alta L. Manners
Alta Lorraine Manners, 87, of North Platte died Jan. 6, 1998, at a local nursing home.
She was born
Sept. 10, 1910, to Martin and Anna Strom Andrews in Gage County.
On Jan. 2, 1930, she married Dee L. Manners at Lexington. He preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1978.
Mrs. Manners was a laundress for Riteway Laundry for 45 years. She was a member of the Four Square Church for many years, and most recently she attended Calvary Assembly of God Church.
Surviving her is a son, Jim (Kathleen) of Bellevue; two grandsons, Russ (Mary Ann) of Omaha and Mike (Elizabeth) of Coon Rapids, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Ryan and Mark of Omaha and Zachary and Lucas of Coon Rapids, Minn.
Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by an infant son; her parents; a sister, Mabel Freeze; and three brothers, Johnny, Lester and Roy Andrews.
A memorial has been established.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Adams and Swanson Chapel with the Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery south of Maxwell.
There will be no visitation as the casket will be closed.

L. Wilson Spangler
CALLAWAY — L. Wilson Spangler, 88, of Callaway died Jan. 5, 1998, at the Callaway District Hospital.
He was born
May 7, 1909, in Cass County to Charles and Anna Hollenbeck Spangler. In 1918, he moved with his family to the Red Fern Table near Callaway, where he had made his home since. He attended Red Fern School and graduated from Callaway High School with the class of 1926.
On May 26, 1930, he married Clara Miller in Denison, Iowa. They farmed as well as ranched their entire lives. She preceded him in death on June 22, 1974, in Broken Bow.
Mr. Spangler was a member of the United Methodist Church in Callaway. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and never missed the kids’ ball games or other Callaway sporting events.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn (Fred) Morrison of O’Neill; three sons, Irvin (Gladys) of Callaway, Allen of Gretna and Dean (Carol) of Oconto; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister, a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church, the Callaway District Hospital, the Callaway Good Samaritan Nursing Home or to the donor’s choice.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Callaway with Rev. Fred Andersen officiating. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery at Callaway.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway.
Jorge Torres Jr.
LEXINGTON — Jorge Torres Jr., infant son of Shannalee Ahrens Rodriguez and Jorge Torres, died Jan. 5, 1998, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
He was born

Survivors include his parents; a sister, Tamina Maria Daake of Cozad; a brother, Niko Christian Ahrens of Lexington; grandparents, Tom and Marie Lauby of Lexington and Bruno and Zanaida of Sinaloa, Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Harvey Ahrens, and great-grandmother, Gladys Reed.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ann’s Cemetery with the Rev. Neal Nollette officiating.

Patricia J. Adams
OMAHA — Patricia J. Adams, a former North Platte resident, died Jan. 5, 1998. She was 63.
Surviving her is a son, Sherwood (Barbara) of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Sherlyn (David) Rothbun of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Anna Stearns of North Platte; special relatives, Wayne and Kay King of Sutherland, Robert and Norma Wright of Chappell, Beverly Coburn of Sutherland, Shirley Sanders and Lynn and Vernita Adams; four grandchildren; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Adams; her parents, Albert and Margueritte Stearns; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert W. and Mickey Stearns; and a brother, Howard D. Stearns.
Memorials are suggested to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Memorial services were Jan. 9, 1998, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Omaha. There was private inurnment.

Dortha Ellen McDonald
Dortha Ellen McDonald, 84, of North Platte, died Jan. 29, 1998, at North Platte Care Centre.
She was born
Nov. 5, 1913, at Frederick, Ill. to Harry James and Cora May Little McDonald.
As a child she lived in Bushnell and Beardstown, Ill., Alliance and several towns in Oklahoma. She graduated from Seminole High School and attended Hills Business College in Oklahoma City.
After working in Oklahoma City for a time, she moved back to Nebraska to work on her mother and step-father, Walter F. Clute’s ranch. She worked at the hotel in Hyannis before moving back to Oklahoma City and then to Colorado Springs, Colo.
In the late 1940s she came to North Platte and has lived here since. She worked at Tom-Tom Coffee Shop, Tucker’s Restaurant, Capri Restaurant and Sirloin Stockade until she broke her hip.
Ms. McDonald was a member of the First Christian Church and past member of the Eagles.
A memorial has been established to the Shriners’ Crippled Children Transportation Fund.
She is survived by a daughter, Loretta Rhea Gamble of Oklahoma City and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, an infant son and a brother, William Lewis McDonald.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Howard E. Grant, Jr. officiating.
Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 8:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C and Sycamore.
Jeanna Lynne Standage
Jennifer Lyn Standage
HYANNIS — Jeanna Lynne Standage, 14, of Ashby died Jan. 29, 1998, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Jennifer Lyn Standage, 16, of Ashby died Jan. 29, 1998, at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance. The sisters died as a result of an automobile accident at Ashby on Thursday.
Jennifer was born
March 1, 1981 at North Platte and Jeanna was born
October 12, 1983, at Ogallala to Michael and Robyn Dubs Standage.
Jennifer was a junior at Hyannis High School where she was a member of H.A.F.A. Club, varsity volleyball, basketball and track , high school band and all other high school activities. She was a member of Swede Valley Lutheran Church and youth group.
Jeanna was in the eighth grade at Hyannis School, where she was a member of the junior high volleyball, basketball and track teams, as well as band and all other school activities. She was also a member of Swede Valley Lutheran Church.
Memorials can be given to Mick Standage Family Memorial Fund and can be sent to Community First Bank in Hyannis or Bank of Keystone in Whitman.
They are survived by their parents; two sisters, Jessica and Jackie, who was a twin to Jeanna; grandparents, Evelyn Standage of Ogallala and Art and Carol Dubs of Ashby, great-grandparents, Ben and Geneva Ewoldt of Seneca; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hyannis High School, with Pastor Lloyd Lenz officiating. Burial will be in the Hyannis Cemetery.
