William G. ‘Bill’ Stamps

LEXINGTON — William G. “Bill” Stamps, 75, died April 15, 1999, at his home in Lexington.

He was born icon July 17, 1923, to William P. and Pearl Gunsolley Stamps at South Sioux City, where he graduated from high school in 1942.

He then went to work for laundries in South Sioux City and North Platte prior to moving to Lexington in 1950, where he worked for the Lexington Laundry until his death.

On March 15, 1947, he married Doris Farris at Sioux City, Iowa.

Mr. Stamps was a member of the Masonic Lodge. His hobbies included woodworking before arthritis prevented him from doing it. He loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving him is his wife; a daughter, Linda (Charlie) Brogan of West Point; three sons, Richard of Bellevue, Robert of Lexington and Mark (Melissa) of Waco, Texas; three sisters, Juanita Spencer of South Sioux City and Orene Stusse and Vesta (Larry) Brown, both of Sioux City; four brothers, Charles (Onna Dale) Stamps of South Sioux City, Tom (Lois) Stamps of Warner-Robbins, Ga., Jim Stamps of Kansas City, Mo., and Roger (Glenna) Stamps of Johnston, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Robert, Chad, Gus, Samantha, Stanley and Mark Stamps, Michelle Mitchell, Lonny and Cory Keegan, Dana Loebig, Jon Schmeeckle, and Stephen and Jenny Brogan; and five great-grandchildren, Sidney and A.J. Stamps, Darian Mitchell and Tyler and Amanda Loebig.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ervine.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Lexington with the Rev. Karla Sheffy officiating. There will be Masonic rites at the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Omaha Valley Cemetery at Homer.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Myra Annable

OGALLALA — Myra Huseman Annable, 51, of Ogallala died Oct. 3, 1999, at the Ogallala Community Hospital following a long battle with cancer.

She was born icon Nov. 21, 1947, to Walter and Florence Frese Huseman at Alta, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Alta. She attended St. John’s Lutheran School through the eighth grade and graduated from Alta High School in 1965. She attended Concordia Teachers College at Seward and graduated in 1971. She taught at St. Paul’s Lutheran School from 1971 to 1981 and at Keystone District 12 from 1981 to 1998.

On June 21, 1975, she married Terry Annable at Ogallala.

Mrs. Annable was the first teacher elected as a lay voting delegate to the Lutheran District Convention in Seward. She was chosen as Ogallala’s Business and Professional Woman of the month twice. She collected Precious Moments figurines, cookbooks, she loved to cook, raised beautiful flowers and liked photography and crafts. She and her husband loved traveling together.

Survivors include her husband; two sisters, LaVonne (Tony) Otto of Aurelia, Iowa, and Janice (Al) Warneke of Juniata; three brothers, Norbert (Iris) Huseman of Alta, Malvern (Wendy) Huseman of Edmonton, Canada, and Loren (Linda) Huseman of Tiffin, Ohio; 24 nieces and nephews; and 18 great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, her twin sister, Myrna and Darlene Neulieb.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogallala with Pastor David Dobbertien officiating. Burial will be in the Ash Hollow Cemetery at Lewellen.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Gubser Funeral Home.

Ival ‘Ed’ Ash

BROKEN BOW — Ival “Ed” Ash, 76, of Broken Bow died Oct. 4, 1999, at his home.

He was born icon March 14, 1923, to LeRoy and Alta Westbrook Ash at Gates. He grew up in the Gates and Merna areas and attended school at Merna. He was a mechanic and lived and worked in various towns. He lived in Broken Bow for the last 30 years. He also worked for the County Highway Department for 10 years. He enjoyed fishing and driving around.

Mr. Ash is survived by two sisters, Velma Applegarth of Broken Bow and Jane Cottam of Hastings; two grandchildren, Kevin and Tasha Ash; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; his son, Ival Jr.; a sister, Ruth; and four brothers, Harold, Leo, Lewis and LeRoy.

A memorial has been established to the American Heart Association.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Jerry Ruzicka officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.

Pansy E. Chapman

MCCOOK — Pansy E. Chapman of McCook, formerly of North Platte, died Oct. 3, 1999, at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 93.

She was born icon Sept. 5, 1906, to Delaware and Elsie Englehart Decker at Decatur County, Kan. She grew up in the Prairie Chapel Community in Decatur County, where she received her elementary education at Traer and Cedar Bluffs. The family moved to Orleans where she graduated from high school in 1924.

On July 13, 1925, she married Verne H. Mace and he died in 1928. She was a bookkeeper for the Mead Ordinance Plant at Mead during World War II. In 1944, she returned to North Platte and worked at the Hansen and Fuenning Accounting Firm for 14 years.

On March 17, 1955, she married Rufus Gill Chapman and he died June 28, 1985. She retired in 1974. She moved to McCook in 1988.

Mrs. Chapman is survived by a son, Howard (Joan) Mace of McCook; a sister, Della Merrill of Wauneta; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Frances Blackwell and Lulu Hunt; and a brother, Zenas Decker.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Phil Ewert officiating. Burial will be in the Oberlin Cemetery at Oberlin, Kan.

June E. Windrum

June E. Windrum, 75, of North Platte died Oct. 5, 1999, at her home after a long bout with cancer.

She was born icon Nov. 1, 1923, to Harry R. and Beulah Jennings Ankeny at Lincoln. She attended Lincoln High School, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the University of Colorado. During her college years she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

On Oct. 5, 1942, she married Keith Windrum at Lincoln. She accompanied her husband to several bases. While her husband was overseas she served as a hospital volunteer. After the war the couple successively made their home in Lincoln, Gothenburg and North Platte. The couple had three children.

Mrs. Windrum was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the PEO sisterhood. She left these gifts to her family and friends; hospitality, a sense of gratitude, a deep commitment to the well-being of her children, unconditional love and a legacy of appreciating the simple joys of life. She loved bridge, traveling and RV camping. She was a loving wife and mother and a friend to all.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Catherine (Ron) Marquart of Lincoln and Carol (Tim Fickenscher) Windrum of Omaha; a son, Steve (Joan) of Gothenburg; two brothers, Harry (Betsy) Ankeny of Denver and Robert (Joann) Ankeny of Sun City West, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Lonn and Jesse Marquart, Roman (Jen) Windrum and Carmen Windrum and fiancee, Mike Ackerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clayton Ankeny.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Great Plains Medical Center/Hospice.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in North Platte with the Rev. Sam Patterson officiating. The body was cremated. Family inurnment of the cremains will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.Odean Colonial Chapel is in charge.

James B. McCrone

James B. McCrone, 87, of North Platte died Oct. 2, 1999, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born icon May 30, 1912, to T.S. “Scott” and Mollie Green McCrone at Denver. They moved to a ranch five miles north of North Platte when he was one. He attended grade school at rural School District 5 and graduated from North Platte High School in 1930.

After graduation, he spent a year in Oregon working in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He then went to work for an uncle in Youngstown, Ohio, who ran a combination grocery store, meat market and post office. A year later he returned to the family ranch to raise registered Hereford cattle with his father and brother, Charles.

On May 10, 1941, he married Nellie Katherine Peterjohn of Hershey. In 1945, they moved to a farm in the Platte Valley community and continued to raise Herefords and farm until he retired in 1980.

Mr. McCrone was on the Platte Valley School board and was a member of the Suburban Ditch board for 10 years. He was a ditch rider for seven years. He was a member of the North Platte Presbyterian Church. He treasured his family, grandchildren and the land he worked. He enjoyed travel, studying current events and morning coffee with friends at the North Platte Bakery.

Survivors include his wife; his daughter, Kathleen (John) Nuzum of Gillette, Wyo.; his son Michael (Jane) of North Platte; a sister, Eleanor (Clyde) Hill of Cedarville, Calif.; and his grandchildren, Scott, Becky, Amy, Katie and Jacob Nuzum, and Aaron, Sara and Elizabeth McCrone.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles.

Memorials are suggested to the North Platte American Legion Baseball program and the Presbyterian Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Amy Jo Hawley officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Odean Colonial Chapel is in charge.

Alveda C. Myers

OGALLALA — Alveda C. Myers of Ogallala, sister of Helen Moller of North Platte, died Oct. 3, 1999, at her home. She was 81.

She was born icon Feb. 4, 1918, to Adam and Lizzie Heldt Jensen at Omaha. She was baptized on Feb. 27, 1918. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith May 28, 1933. She graduated from Ashland High School at Ashland in 1935. After graduation she moved to Ogallala to join her parents and sister, who had relocated to western Nebraska earlier that year. She worked at the JC Penney store.

On March 15, 1939, she married Boyd Myers at Ogallala. The couple made their home on the Jensen family farm northeast of Roscoe. In 1980, the Myers’ retired from farming and continued to enjoy life on the farm. Her husband died in 1990. She moved to Ogallala in 1994.

Mrs. Myers belonged to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Ladies Aid and Adult Bible Class. She was also a community volunteer in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Meals on Wheels and Bloodmobile. She enjoyed the neighborhood ladies card club until March of this year, when she became ill with cancer.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Toney) Krajewski of Ogallala and Mary (Jim) Ardissono of Issaquah, Wash.; a son, Warren (Melissa) of Issaquah, Wash.; a sister, Helen Moller of North Platte; an aunt, Erma Williams of Papillion; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Mary Elizabeth Jensen.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Dobbertien officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala.

Rosemary Murray

MADRID — Rosemary Murray, 85, formerly of Madrid, died Oct. 2, 1999, at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.

She was born icon Nov. 13, 1913, to Charles and Myrtie McCullough Softley at Elsie where she graduated from high school in 1930. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan for one year before returning to Perkins County, where she taught in rural schools for nine years. She then taught school in Madrid for five years. During this time she attended Kearney State Teachers College and received her degree in elementary education.

On Sept. 13, 1946, she married Art Murray. They made their home in Madrid and she helped her husband run the Madrid Herald newspaper. She later taught school for six more years. She moved to the nursing home in Grant in 1995.

Mrs. Murray was a member of both the Elsie and Madrid United Methodist churches.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Murray of Madrid; her son, Glen of Grand Island; two sisters, Elaine Schweer of Denver and Dorothy Sharp of Midland, Ore.; two brothers, George (Clara) Softley of Phoenix, Ariz., and Warren (Minnie) Softley of Elsie.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982; her parents; and a brother, Ralph Softley.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Elsie United Methodist Church with Pastor Bonnie Linton-Hendrick officiating. Burial will be in the Elsie Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge.

Marion Edna Reynolds

KEARNEY — Marion Edna Reynolds of Kearney, formerly of Broken Bow, died Oct. 3, 1999, at St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Village in Kearney. She was 91.

She was born icon May 10, 1908, to Holly and Mabelle Copp Baker on the family homestead at Brewster. She graduated from high school in Ord and attended Grand Island Business School.

In 1928, she married George J. Wilkinson. They had a daughter. Her husband died in 1955.

Later she married Virgil Reynolds.

Mrs. Reynolds was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church on June 9, 1956, and was a lifelong member of the Broken Bow congregation.

Survivors include her daughter, Elaine (Eldon) Martindale of Elm Creek; a granddaughter, Claire (Gayle) Olson of Elm Creek; three grandsons, Jay (Kathie) Martindale of Brewster, Mark (Doris) Martindale and Glen (Jennie) Martindale, both of Elm Creek; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both her husbands; her parents; four brothers and a grandson.

A memorial has been established to the Brewster Ambulance Fund.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. Burial will be in the Brewster Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
