Sadie M. Rhoades

CALLAWAY — Sadie M. Rhoades, 87, of Callaway died Oct. 2, 1999, at Callaway District Hospital in Callaway.

She was born icon March 20, 1912, to Andrew D. and Stenna R. Vistrup Christensen at Broken Bow.

On Aug. 11, 1930, she married Alpha R. Rhoades at Merna. Her husband died July 12, 1990.

Survivors include three daughters, Madeline McFate of Callaway, Joyce Fowler of Buena Vista, N.M., and Patricia Strand of Ainsworth; three sons, Claude of Anselmo, Walter of Brewster and Marion of Thedford; two sisters, Marie McDermott and Julia Fritz, both of Broken Bow; 22 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by an infant son and her parents.

A memorial has been established to the family for dialysis in Nebraska.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Pastors Emmitt Fowler and Dennis Woodward officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Govier Brothers Mortuary.

B. Bernece Zeigler

PAXTON — Bessie Bernece Zeigler of Paxton, formerly of North Platte, died Oct. 2, 1999, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. She was 71.

She was born icon Oct. 20, 1927, to Ralph Curtis and Nellie Lowery Newbrey at Lexington. She grew up in the Lexington and Cozad areas, where she attended school.

On Dec. 27, 1943, she married Orville Dwayne Zeigler. They made their home in North Platte. She was a homemaker and a wonderful wife and mother to her seven children. She worked hard at canning fruit and vegetables for her family.

Mrs. Zeigler is survived by two daughters, Virginia (John) Spencer of Brady and Marilyn (Karl) Miller of Paxton; four sons, Gordon (Phyllis) and David, both of North Platte, Lyle (Penny) of Pembine, Wis., and Mark of Olympia, Wash.; two sisters, Janet (Fay) Smith of North Platte and Lois (Bob) Bullock of Gothenburg; a brother, Wallace Newbrey of Tuscon, Ariz.; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Michael Dwayne; her parents; two sisters, Mary Quinn and Louise Newbrey; and five brothers, Grover, Fred, Leon, Robert and Jay Newbrey.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in North Platte with Pastor Steven Jergensen officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.

Kenneth E. Marsh

Kenneth Earl Marsh, 85, longtime resident of North Platte died Sept. 21, 1999, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born icon Nov. 1, 1913, to Charles and Edith Marsh at Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1932. He was an excellent student with strong interests in bookkeeping. He served in World War II from 1942 to 1945 with honor and distinction, rising to the rank of master sargeant. He was in the Battle of the Bulge where he was in command of a tank squadron.

He was a liquor salesman for the Western-United Distilling Company for most of his life. He traveled extensively in Nebraska and thoroughly enjoyed his profession and made friends throughout the state. He was an avid Cornhusker fan and attended most of the home games before his health declined.

Mr. Marsh is survived by two nephews, Kerry Lease of Washington and Ron Lease of Utah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Virginia; and two brothers, Chuck and Harry.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors. The body was cremated, there will be no visitation.

Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge.

Irene McNeal

Irene McNeal, 80, of North Platte died Oct. 8, 1999, at her home.

She was born icon July 13, 1919, to Everett John and Bessie Opal Gullion at Lewellen. She grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1937.

On July 11, 1949, she married Darold M. McNeal at Lincoln. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1996.

In 1940, she started working at Hoover’s Jewelry Store where she worked for 11 years until 1951, when she quit work to raise her family.

Mrs. McNeal was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church and the Elks Club. She was an avid reader who utilized the North Platte Public Library her entire life. Her time spent with family and friends were most precious to her and she will be missed by those loved ones.

Survivors include her children, Cindy and Royce Norman of North Platte, Randi and Rory Zink of Lincoln, Karen and Douglas Miller of Lincoln, Susan and Dan Arnold of Grand Island and Jeffrey and Michele McNeal of Lincoln; eight grandsons and five granddaughters; her mother, Bessie Gullion of North Platte; a sister, Bonnie Benningfield of Indianapolis; a brother, Ray “Skip” Gullion of North Platte; sister-in-law, Rae Gullion of North Platte, Marge Gullion of Oslo Cove, Ind., Darlene Brooks and JoAnn Goldsmith, both of Arvada, Colo., and Marilyn Fleming of Idaho; brother-in-law, Terry McNeal of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her father; three brothers, Glenn, Gayle and Don Gullion; and a grandson, Lucas Norman.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Noah Palmer of Bethel Evangelical Free Church officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.

Helen Mae Drullinger

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — Helen Mae Fischer Drullinger, sister-in-law of Darrell Drullinger and Joyce Piskorki and daughter-in-law of Roberta Drullinger, all of North Platte, died Sept. 22, 1999, in Cedarville, Ohio.

She was married to Dave Drullinger, a native of Chadron. She worked part time at Cedarville College where her husband is a member of the faculty. She was a member of the Washington Height Baptist Church of Dayton.

Mrs. Drullinger is survived by her husband; a daughter, Carla Drullinger; a son, Randall; her mother, Clara Fischer; three sisters, all of Oregon; a brother of Oregon; and a grandson, Daniel Drullinger.

A memorial has been established to the Cedarville College, PO Box 601, Cedarville, OH 45314.

A gathering for family and friends to honor her memory will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of North Platte.

Twila Mae Lutes

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Twila Mae Lutes of Fort Collins, Colo., formerly of North Platte, died Oct. 8, 1999, at her home. She was 64.

She was born icon Dec. 6, 1934, to Paul and Lottie Fattig Heldenbrand at North Platte.

On Dec. 28, 1951, she married Joseph Peter Lutes. Her husband died March 21, 1987.

Mrs. Lutes was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was also the secretary for 40 years.

Survivors included her son, Leon of Sheridan, Ind., and three grandchildren, Tricia Burns and Steven and Jonathan Lutes, all of Indiana.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Memorial Fund in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins, CO 80524.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Collins with Pastor Rick Schrader officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Lone Star Cemetery at Ringgold.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins.

Michael Angelo Ray Perez

LONGVIEW, Texas — Michael Angelo Ray Perez of Longview, Texas, grandson of Mary Ann Castro of North Platte, died Sept. 28, 1999, at Longview. He was 18.

He was born icon May 16, 1981, to Edilberto Sr. and Victoria Gonzales in Pueblo, Colo. He attended grade school at Buffalo School in North Platte. He moved from North Platte eight years ago, returning last year to attend his sophomore year at North Platte High School.

He was a Catholic.

Mr. Perez was a cook for Sonic Drive-In.

Also surviving him is his mother and stepfather, Victoria and Juan Escalona of Longview; his father of Holdrege; a sister, Rae Lynne Perez, and a brother, Edilberto Gonzales Jr., both of Longview; two nieces and a nephew; an aunt and three uncles; and numerous cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles.

Services were Oct. 2, 1999, at Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Longview, with burial in the Tatum (Texas) Cemetery.

Linda M. Sandlin

Linda Mae Sandlin, 60, of North Platte died Oct. 8, 1999, at North Platte Care Centre.

She was born icon June 23, 1939, to Weston and Margaret Meadows Negley at Nelson. She attended schools in North Platte. She lived in Florida, Georgia and Maine before returning to North Platte. She enjoyed country music, dancing, crocheting, shuffleboard and she had a rambunctious personality.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Rasmussen and Teri (Steve) Manthei, both of North Platte and Bobbi (Les) Hazen of Sioux City, Iowa; a son, Todd Warren of North Platte; four sisters; three brothers; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlys Holbein; her parents; her stepmother, Eloris Negley; and a granddaughter, Willa Manthei.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Salvation Army Citadel with Lieutenant Mary Stevens officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Lillian Zeigler

BROKEN BOW — Lillian Zeigler, 87, of Broken Bow died Oct. 8, 1999, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.

She was born icon May 1, 1912, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ferguson in Blaine County. She attended country school in Loup County and graduated from Taylor High School.

In 1939, she married Keith Zeigler. She worked at the post office in Brewster for awhile and was a bookkeeper for her husband and son’s business in Broken Bow.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dennis Zeigler of Broken Bow and Earl Zeigler of Omaha; a sister, Florence Marshall of Kingsland, Texas; two brothers, Don and Kenneth Ferguson, both of Brewster; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Zeigler was cremated.
