Clara M. Leibhart

LEXINGTON — Clara M. Leibhart, 83, of Lexington died Nov. 11, 1999, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood.

She was born icon Aug. 31, 1916, at Stanley, Ky., to Benjamin C. and Lula Meyers Smith. She moved to Nebraska from Kentucky as a young person. She was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, loved to dance and will be remembered for her laugh. She especially enjoyed being with her children and her grandchildren.

In 1936, she married Ramon Tuttle at Omaha. She later married Oral Westbrook and then Stan Leibhart. All her husbands preceded her in death.

Survivors include five daughters, Laura (Willard) Keiser of Gothenburg, Shirley (Dwight) Horn, Karen (Clif) Horn and Susan (Dave) Garcia, all of Lexington, and Rose Smith of Phillipsburg, Kan.; four sons, Clifford (Nina) Tuttle of Jacksonville, Fla., Larry Westbrook of Chino Valley, Ariz., Melvin “Rusty” (Deb) of Elwood and Roy (Jean) Westbrook of Cozad; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Oral; two sisters, Mary and Adell; two brothers, Jack and William; a great-granddaughter, Sara; and a son-in-law, Perry Smith.

A memorial has been established.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with the Rev. Don Buhrman officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery. Wake service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Troy Lynn Reil

LEXINGTON — Troy Lynn Reil of Grand Island, formerly of Lexington, died Nov. 11, 1999, at his home. He was 32.

He was born icon Oct. 13, 1967, at Lexington to Ervin L. and Joyce M. Lazar Reil. He grew up and attended school at Lexington, where he graduated in 1986. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lexington and the Lexington Bowling Association. He loved bowling and helped with the youth bowling program. He enjoyed being with kids, baby-sitting and music. He loved going to Sawyer Brown concerts. He also collected Precious Moments figurines.

Mr. Reil is survived by his mother of Lexington; grandmother, Fern James of Elwood; three brothers, Craig (Jill) of Papillion, Jason and fiancee, Kayla Marker of Missouri Valley, Iowa, and Bryan (Shelly) of Lincoln; a nephew, Parker Jacob Reil of Lincoln; and aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded by his father in 1995; an infant sister, Tracy in 1966; and his grandparents, Herman and Stella Reil and Clifford James.

Memorials are suggested to the Troy Reil Memorial Fund.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Lexington with the Rev. Todd Karges and Mr. Nick Tubbs officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Jeremiah D. Robinson

COZAD — Jeremiah Robinson, 15, of Cozad died Nov. 11, 1999, at the Cozad Hospital.

He was born icon Nov. 2, 1984, at Benkelman to Dan and Linda Bowman Robinson. He attended schools at Lexington, Kearney, Holdrege and North Platte. He moved to Cozad in 1996 and was in the eighth grade at the Cozad Middle School. He participated in football and enjoyed fishing and playing video games. He was baptized in the Catholic Church.

Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Joseph of Lexington and Tom of Cozad; his grandparents, Glen and Rita Robinson of Lexington; his great-grandmother, Louana Higgins of Fort Collins, Colo.; two aunts, Vicki (Jim) Miller of Lexington and Judy (Paul) Reyes of Sterling, Colo.; an uncle, Tom (Kathy) Robinson of Johnson Lake; special friend, Kim Applegarth of Cozad; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lowell and Gladys Bowman and an aunt, Julie Robinson.

Memorials are suggested to the Jeremiah Robinson Memorial.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad with the Rev. Don O’Brien as celebrant. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

Alvina 'George' Coleman

Alvina "George" Coleman, 86, of North Platte died April 18, 2000, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.

She was born icon Nov. 5, 1913, at Ruskin to Charles Ude and Margaret Eliza Doering Schmidt. On Nov. 23, 1913, she was baptized in the Ruskin Lutheran Church. She was confirmed May 11, 1928, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Stoddard.

On March 16, 1938, she married Lee Raymond Coleman at Lexington. They farmed and had a grade A dairy southeast of North Platte for 23 years. In 1949, she received the Good Neighbor Award from Leo's Flowers. She taught Sunday school when her children were small and was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, which later became a hobby. She was a big fan of the Denver Broncos and the Atlanta Braves.

She was given her nickname "George" when she worked in the obstetric department at St. Mary's Hospital. She worked at Great Plains Regional Medical Center for 16 years and received the Employee of the Month Award in September 1979. She had also worked at Memorial Hospital. She was proud of her German heritage. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Sunshine Extension Club.

Mrs. Coleman is survived by a daughter, Marilyn R. Hastings of North Platte; two sons, Errol R. "Skip" of Lincoln and Carroll L. "Shorty" (Elizabeth) of Fort Collins, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Lee (Kendra) Coleman, R.J. (Trin) Coleman, Shawna Raber, Necco Coleman, Joshua Coleman, Fawn Coleman, Sheila (John) Hogan, Shane (Karen) Hastings and Scott (JoDee) Hastings; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Hastings and Issac Raber; four sisters-in-law, Mabel Highberger of North Platte, Florence Schmidt of Dalton, Elda Schmidt of Loveland, Colo., and Irma Moen of Blair; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Anna Wiedel, Alma Houssman and Lydia Klinge; and five brothers, Walter, a twin, Alvin, Carl, John and an infant.

Memorials are suggested to the First Evangelical Church or to the donor's choice.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte with the Rev. Dr. Nathan R. Wadewitz officiating. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Thursday and Friday at Odean Colonial Chapel and before services at the church.

Martin C. Hasenauer

LOVELAND, Colo. — Martin C. Hasenauer of Loveland, Colo., formerly of the Wallace and North Platte area, died April 11, 2000, at his home.

He was born icon Oct. 24, 1909, at Seward to Max and Emma Hasenauer. He was in the land development business.

On Sept. 7, 1934, he married Claudina VanAuken. They had three children, Ivan, Corrinne and Janet.

On Jan. 29, 1950, he married Leila Wurl and they had three children, Martin, C. Bruce and Tony Lee.

Mr. Hasenauer is survived by two daughters, Janet Heinzle of North Platte and Corrinne Pedersen of Lincoln; three sons, Martin Julius of Canon City, Colo., and Tony Lee and C. Bruce, both of Denver; two sisters, Emma Darnell of North Platte and JoAnn Vadeen of Arvada, Colo.; a brother, Herbert of Wallace; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Ivan; his parents; a sister; and six brothers.

Services were April 15, 2000, at the First Seventh Day Adventist Church in Denver.

Buckley Mortuary Services of Denver was in charge.

Alvah R. Johnson

Alvah R. Johnson, 80, of North Platte died April 16, 2000, at Linden Court in North Platte.

He was born icon July 22, 1919, to Jacob and Ellen Christine Jorgensen Johnson at Maxwell. He grew up on a farm north of Curtis. He attended country school and Curtis High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the Medical Corps in India from 1942 to 1945. He worked for the State of Nebraska, was a janitor at the Curtis Grade School and worked at the Ford Garage.

On July 21, 1984, he married Edna Waterman. After he retired, he owned and operated Platte Valley Small Engine Repair. In 1998, he moved to Linden Court.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and Mid-Plainsmen Barber Shop Chorus and he was honored as the Barbershopper of the Year in 1998. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, American Legion and was a Boy Scout leader. He was also active in the North Platte Senior Center.

Survivors include his sister, Vera Hively of Hartington; a niece, Bonnie (Ed) Kimball of Bronson, Iowa; three nephews, Walt (Lee) Hively of Norfolk, Dareld (Kim) Hively of Hartington and Ed (Lisa) Hively of Lincoln; five great-nieces; seven great-nephews; and two great-great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sisters; a niece; and a great-great nephew.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte with the Rev. Nathan Wadewitz officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military honors.

Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Dennis L. Olson

JOHNSON LAKE — Dennis LeRoy Olson of Johnson Lake, formerly of Broken Bow, died April 17, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was 55.

He was born icon Aug. 24, 1944, at Broken Bow to LeRoy E. and Birdie Mae Kruse Olson. He attended school at Gates through the eighth grade and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1962. He also attended Kearney State College.

On July 31, 1963, he married Connie Fariss. They lived and farmed in the Gates community and also operated Olson Gravel. He later sold the farm and gravel operation. In 1993, he moved to Lexington. He was currently employed with Overton Sand and Gravel.

On June 1, 1999, he married Willa Keller Dowse at Johnson Lake.

Mr. Olson was baptized in the Lillian Church of Christ. He was a past member of the Broken Bow Elks Lodge 1688 and was active in the One Box Pheasant Hunt in Broken Bow for more than 20 years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cynthia (Larry) Jones and Cally Lowe, both of Joshua, Texas; a son, Levi (Kathy) Olson of Sargent; two stepsons, Bill (Vicki) Dowse of Pocatello, Idaho, and Matt (Amanda) Dowse of Lincoln; his father of Yuma, Ariz.; his mother, Birdie Teutsch of North Platte; two brothers, Rod (Berta) of Broken Bow and Jerry (Rose) of Long Beach, Miss.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christina Lynn Olson and a brother, Danny Lee.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Broken Bow Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. Jeff Nielsen officiating. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

William Riley Pittman Jr.

William Riley Pittman Jr., 87, of North Platte died April 18, 2000, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born icon Nov. 20, 1912, at North Platte to William Riley Sr. and Mary Adaline Chambers Pittman. He grew up north of North Platte and attended Hall School and North Platte High School. He was a carman for the Union Pacific Railroad until he retired in 1978.

In 1933, he married Leatha Mary Halligan. His wife died in 1962.

In 1965, he married LaFern Agnes Wright Haskins at Grand Island. They made their home in North Platte. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He had been a member of the Athletic Club, Moose Lodge and charter member, Eagle's Aeries 2839 and the Benevolent and Patriotic Order of Elks 985.

Mr. Pittman is survived by his wife, LaFern; a daughter, Linda Renee (Thomas) Gabel of Omaha; a stepdaughter, Rogene Norton of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren, Tracy (Brett) Irwin, Jennifer, William and Wade Osborn; three stepgrandchildren, Tim (Julie) Rickett, Mike Rickett and Debbie (Johnnie) Smith; four great-grandchildren, Kyle Harrison Osborn, Jacob Dennis Osborn, Riley Dennis Osborn and Shaylynn Channing Osborn; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Jacquieline Rickett and Kaleena and Kyle Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Norma Jean Rickett; his parents; a sister, Hazel Eberly; and two brothers, Ai Earl and James Richard "Dick".

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the North Platte Cemetery with the Rev. Nathan R. Wadewitz officiating.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to Noon Friday at Odean Colonial Chapel.¤

Kenneth Lee Anderson

Kenneth Lee Anderson, 59, of North Platte died April 16, 2000, at his home.

He was born icon June 1, 1940, to Alvin Floyd and Katie Elisabeth Christiansen Anderson at Ogallala. He grew up in Ord and his family moved to Sidney when he was 13. He served in the U.S. Army before joining the U.S. Air Force. He was discharged in January 1962.

On Oct. 13, 1962, he married Donna Jean Kealy at Sidney. They lived in Sterling, Colo., Sidney, Harvard and Hot Springs, S.D., before moving to North Platte in 1973. He graduated from Mid-Plains Community College in 1975 with a degree in drafting and design. He was employed by the North Platte Police Department as an Animal Control Officer for more than 24 years. He retired due to illness. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and painting. He was a member of the Lutheran faith, the Fraternal Brotherhood of Police Officers and the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife; three daughters, Sheryl (Martin) Marquez of Big Springs, Charlene (Bryan) Lemmer of Wrightsville, Pa., and Tara (David) Cobb of North Platte; a son, Gerald (Brenda) of Hershey; his mother of Sidney; a sister, Joyce (Jerry) Heckel of Bayard; two brothers, Ronald (Linda) of Taylorville, Utah, and Alan (Sherri) of Sidney; four sisters-in-law, Patricia (Gene) Chafin of Julesburg, Colo., Kathleen (John) Garcia of Johnson Lake, Colleen (Dave) Seifried of Sterling, Colo., and Sharon (Danny) Hernadez of Ogallala; three brothers-in-law, Harold (Mary Lou) Kealy of St. Helens, Ore., George (Gloria) Kealy of Spokane, Wash., and Bill (Marcia) Kealy of Brule; 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; a nephew, Greg Heckel; and his father- and mother-in-law, Lawrence of Florentine Kealy.

Memorials are suggested to Great Plains Hospice, Paws-itive Partners Humane Society or to the donor's choice.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church with Chaplain Perry Edwards of Great Plains Regional Medical Center officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military and police department honors.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte and prior to services at the church.

Eleanor Diehl

BRADY — Eleanor Diehl, 86, a lifelong resident of the Brady area, died April 15, 2000, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

She was born icon Feb. 27, 1914, to Christian and Olive Ritenour Peterson at Brady, where she attended school.

On Dec. 22, 1930, she married Willard H. Diehl Sr. at Brady. Her husband died Aug. 4, 1991. In 1996, she was baptized by her grandson.

Mrs. Diehl is survived by a daughter, Lorraine Lawrence of Brady; two sons, Bill Jr. (DeDe) of Brady and Kenny (Karen) of Topeka, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many friends.

She was also preceded in death by a son, James; her parents; four sisters; three brothers; a granddaughter, Kathy Bockus; a great-granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Memorials are suggested to the Brady Rescue Unit.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg with the Rev. Jim Henry officiating. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Visitation will from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday at the chapel.

Janice Lundvall Rawlings

WALLACE — Janice Lundvall Rawlings, 46, of St. Paul died April 16, 2000, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

She was born icon Nov. 22, 1953, at Sutherland to Don and Donna Trusty Lundvall. She attended school in Wallace until the seventh grade when the family moved to Grand Island, where she graduated from high school.

In 1972, she married Roy Dent at Albuquerque, N.M. They lived in several different locations before she returned to Grand Island.

On July 24, 1993, she married Leslie Rawlings at Grand Island. They lived in St. Paul and she commuted to the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where she graduated in 1998 with a degree in social services. She moved to her parents home in Grant in August, where they helped her while she battled cancer.

Mrs. Rawlings is survived by her husband, Les; two daughters, Jennifer (Eric) Adler of Basalt, Colo., and Kimberly Dent of St. Paul; her parents of Grant; two sisters, Karen (Dean) Franklin of Wallace and Kelli (Scott) Holechek of Lincoln; a brother, Tim (Cindy) Lundvall of Wallace; and a grandson.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 1 p.m. CDT Wednesday at the Wallace Methodist Church with Perry Edwards of Great Plains Regional Medical Center officiating. A private burial will be prior to services in the Wallace Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge.

Elma Shimmin

PARADISE VALLEY, Mont. — Elma Shimmin of Paradise Valley, Mont., formerly of the Stapleton and Tryon area, died April 8, 2000, at her home. She was 84.

She was born icon April 13, 1916, to Henry and Edith Berkey Zickefoose at Rossville, Kan. When she was young, her family moved to the Stapleton area, where she received her education.

On June 7, 1937, she married Bruce Shimmin. They ranched in the Tryon area, where they

raised their three sons.

In 1967, she and her husband moved to their ranch at Paradise Valley that they had purchased two years before, where they have made their home since.

Mrs. Shimmin is survived by her husband; a son, Riley (Carolyn) of Paradise Valley; a daughter-in-law, Rita Shimmin of Ogallala; three sisters, Lola (Clifford) Boyer of Denver, Marjory McCamley of Lincoln and Henrietta Pfeifer of North Platte; a granddaughter, Kristy (Jack) Fish of Livingston, Mont.; a grandson, Kory (Rachelle) Shimmin of Park City, Mont.; three great-grandchildren, Brayden Shimmin and Jacob and Emma Fish; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by two sons, David in 1966 and Dennis in 1998; two sisters, including her twin, Thelma McAuliff; and three brothers.

Services were April 11, 2000, at the Livingston Congregational Church at Livingston.
