Mary Lou Williams
Mary Lou Williams, 84, of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Regional West Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church with The Very Reverend Gary R. Young officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Memorials in Mary Lou’s name may be made to the church or CASA.
Condolences to the family may be e-mailed to sympathy@jolliffefuneralhome.com. Friends may call at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, Friday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Mary Lou was born Nov. 9, 1919, on the family homestead north of Ft. Laramie, Wyo. She was raised and educated at Ft. Laramie and graduated from the West Nebraska General Hospital School of Nursing with the Class of 1940 and had been employed at West Nebraska General Hospital as the operating room nursing supervisor.
Mary Lou was united in marriage to Clark N. Williams, May 10, 1947, in Morrill. Mary Lou was very active in the community and her church. She was one of the founders of the Scotts Bluff County Juvenile Committee working with troubled youth. Mary Lou was a member of the church, the church altar guild and general guild.
Survivors include her daughters, Jane Wisniewski and Sarah Williams, both of Scottsbluff; grandson, Clark Wisniewski and his wife Amy of Scottsbluff; and great-granddaughter, Catherine Wisniewski.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sept. 4, 1982; five sisters and five brothers.

Helen G. Hutchinson Davis
CLARENDON, Ark. – Helen G. Hutchinson Davis, 78, of Clarendon, Ark. died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at the Stuttgart Regional Medical Center and was laid to rest Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at the Shady Grove Cemetery in Clarendon.
She was the daughter of the late Alonzo D. Worley and the late Hope R. Worley (Lynch).
Helen was born in Brinkley, Ark. on Mar. 1, 1926. She received her education and lived in Clarendon through her childhood and early adult life.
She later met and married Robert Hutchinson of Mitchell. This marriage of 35 years blessed them with a son, Steve Hutchinson of Mitchell.
Helen worked many places in the Mitchell area. Anyone who knew her, found her to be a very sensitive and caring woman. She was very active in her church and loved the Lord.
Her time was spent doing many crafts, cooking and gardening, but one of her greatest joys was her family, including a husband of 25 years, Bill Davis, her son and daughter-in-law Steve and Bonnie Hutchinson of Mitchell, her grandchildren Toby and Erin Hutchinson of Phoenix, Ariz., Shane and Hollie Thompson of Denver, and two great grandsons Blake and Brye Thompson of Denver.
She was also very excited to learn of a third great grandchild, yet to be born to Toby and Erin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo Worley and Hope Worley Lynch and first husband Bob Hutchinson, and mother and father-in-law Elmer and Stella Hutchinson of Mitchell.
Helen leaves a legacy of wonderful memories to her family and friends.

Minnie Langhofer
Minnie Langhofer, 91, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004 at Beverly Healthcare in Scottsbluff. Her funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Bayard Cemetery.
Memorials in her name may be given to the church. Friends who wish may call at the Jolliffe Funeral Home Monday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Tuesday at the funeral service. Condolences to the family may be e-mailed to sympathy@jolliffefuneralhome.com.
Minnie was born May 31, 1913, at Elwell, in Weld County, Colorado, to Jacob and Katherine (Reifschneider) Abel. At a young age, she moved with her family to Bayard where she grew up and received her education. She married David Langhofer, Jr., on Jan. 24, 1932 at Bayard. She and her husband farmed for 42 years in the Bayard area and Gering Valley, before retiring in 1975 and moving to Scottsbluff. She moved to Beverly Healthcare in 1998 and has lived there since. Minnie loved to fish and had received numerous angling awards.
She was a member of the Salem Congregational Church.
She is survived by her son and his special friends Ralph Langhofer and Pat O’Brien of Imperial, Neb., her daughter in law Paulyne Langhofer of Scottsbluff, her brother Walter Abel of Gering, her sisters Emma Hass of Glendive, Mont., and Lydia Tripple and Kathryn Kugler, both of Gering, and her sisters in law Carolyn and her husband Carl Nuss of Minatare and Rose and her husband Dan Coakley of Lady Lake, Fla. She is also survived by her grandchildren Renee and her husband Sherm Burkey of Scottsbluff, Denis and his wife Helen Langhofer of Thornton, Colo., Heather Classen of Lincoln, and Wendi and her husband Nate Nordhausen of Wauneta, and her great grandchildren Geoff and Erik Langhofer, Aaron and Zachary Classen and Brooklyn, Hannah and Brody Nordhausen. She is also survived by three step grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren and one step great great grandson.
Her parents, her husband David, her son Bob Langhofer, one sister, three brothers, and one step great granddaughter preceded her in death.

John “Dean” Pfeifer
Funeral services for John “Dean” Pfeifer, 87, of Scottsbluff, who passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 at his home, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Michael Stein officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Friends who wish may call at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
He was born June 11, 1917 at Scottsbluff to John Harvey and Anna Matilda (Hiersche) Pfeifer. One of seven children, he was raised on a farm north of Scottsbluff and received his education at Victory Hill School. He married Virginia B. Peterson on Sept. 14, 1947 at Scottsbluff. They resided in Scottsbluff where they raised their three daughters. He owned and managed J.D. Pfeifer Insurance Agency for over 30 years.
He was a long time member of Scottsbluff Elks Lodge #1367, B.P.O.E.; lifetime member of the First Christian Church; and was an active member of Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever for many years.
Dean had a great love for the outdoors. Hunting and fishing time was a must for Dean and Virginia. Hunting was a great past time for Dean, and many times it was to feed his young family. Fishing was a simple contest between Dean and his wife, but the end result was always that she “caught the big one!” He and numerous fishing buddies also had contests of who could catch the biggest fish and/or tell the biggest lies. Daddy was never one to offer advice but always had an opinion if asked, especially by his children. He was there to pat us on our backs when accomplishments were made and was always there to pick up the pieces when things went wrong. Daddy always had a firm but gentle hand and a never-ending heart.
He is survived by his daughter Rhonda and son-in-law Jerry Lewis of Austin, Texas, daughter Marlene Butcher and fiancé Ronnie Rogers of Minatare, and daughter Roxie and son-in-law Scott Adams of Scottsbluff. Nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren; sister Irma LaBat of Denver, sister Doris Steele of Potter, and brother Wayne Pfeifer of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia, infant son Ronald, his parents, and three brothers Leonard, Clyde and Ray.

Betty Roberts
LAKE CITY, Mich. – Betty A. Roberts, 81, of Lake City, Mich. passed away Oct. 7, 2004 at her home.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Lake City Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Rev. Donald VanDyke officiating. Visitation will be today from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at the Young Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Lake City Cemetery.
She was born Mar. 22, 1923 in McConnellsville, Ohio, to Richard and Alberta (Betts) Gaines. She married William E. Roberts Jr. April 27, 1957.
She was employed at General Motors Plant during WWII in Ohio. After moving to Michigan she was employed at Dow Corning in Midland. She was secretary for Circuit Court Judge William Peterson. Mrs. Roberts was a charter member of the Lake City Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible studies. She was chairperson of the Missions committee and was actively involved in Ladies Outreach. She was very dedicated also to the Cadillac area Christian Women’s Club.
Survivors include her husband Bill, six children Jake (Sharry) Roberts of Scottsbluff, Bill (Ann) Roberts of Lake City, Mich., Rick Roberts and close friend Patti of Gaylord, Mich., Ann (Tim) Bradley of Rudyard, Mich., Dan (Sharon) Roberts of Nagano, Japan, Cris Roberts of Lake City, Mich.; two sisters Bobbi (Vernon) Hunt of Lake City, Mich., and Pat (Don) Fenton of Roscommon, Mich., and brother-in-law Larry Cadman of Auburn, Mich.; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her parents, a brother Richard Gaines and a sister Mary Cadman, preceded her in death.

Marie Frakes
Marie A. Frakes, 76, of Bayard died Friday, Dec. 3, at Regional West Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at First Assembly Church in Scottsbluff. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park, and inurnment will be at Bayard Cemetery. A complete obituary will appear in Tuesday’s Star-Herald.

Dorothee Hunt
YAKIMA, Wash.— Dorothee L. Hunt, 89, of Yakima, Wash. passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 surrounded by family. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 in Yakima. Interment will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 in Creighton Valley Cemetery in Melbeta.
The family suggests memorials to West Valley Missionary Church, Oregon 4-H Foundation or to the Safford-Dickinson Family Reunion in care of Keith and Keith Funeral Home, 902 Yakima Ave, Yakima, WA 98902.
Gering Memorial Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.
She was born Aug. 6, 1915 at her family’s home near Henry to John Elkanah French and Anna Lowa (Dickinson) French.
Dorothee started teaching school in 1933, the same year she graduated from high school. She attended thee University of Nebraska and summer school at Eastern Washington State College completing her Bachelor’s degree in Education and teaching certificate. She married R. Milton Hunt in Cheney, Wash. on June 19, 1943. They made their home in Cheney until 1954 when they moved their family of Yakima.
Dorothee has always made a difference in the lives of children. She taught kindergarten and elementary grades in Las Vegas, Nev.; Kennewick, Wash.; and Spokane, Wash. before teaching for 20 years in the Yakima Public Schools. She was also a 4-H club leader for over 10 years. Milton and Dorothee celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in 1995. She belonged to Repleh Club, the Ag Museum, Grange, and especially enjoyed attending the Old Time Fiddlers. She was active in the West Valley Missionary Church and had a strong faith in God that was very apparent in her daily life. One of her many gifts was caring for others. Today she is happy in heaven as she is reunited with her family and spending eternity with Jesus, her Savior.
Surviving family include her son Roger Hunt and his wife Jeannie of Paso Robles, Calif., her daughter Elaine Schrumpf and her husband Barry of Corvallis, Ore., and her daughter Carol Toney and her husband Stan of Yakima; grandchildren: Jennifer Schrumpf, Brian Tney, Matt Schrumpf, Alex Bruner, and Rusty Bruner and her great-grandson, Wyatt Denue.
Dorothee was preceded in death, by, her husband Milton, her sister Doris, and her brother Warren.

Donna M. Swanson
BRIDGEPORT – Donna M. Swanson, 72, of Bridgeport joined with the host of angels on Friday, Dec. 3, 2004 at the Morrill County Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Mon., Dec. 6, 2004 at Grace Lutheran Church in Lewellen with Ann Bairn, P.M.A., and Dallas Walker, P.M.A., co-officiating. Interment will be in Ash Hollow Cemetery near Lewellen. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh. A memorial has been established.
Donna was born on Aug. 19, 1932 in Briggsdale, Colo. to Hiram and Mable (Armstrong) Dilley. She grew up with nine brothers and sisters in the Panhandle area and graduated from Lewellen High School in 1950. She worked for Bowmans Clothing and Goodalls Manufacturing both in Ogallala to earn the extra money to add to her scholarships to pay for college. She then attended Kearney State College in 1951 and received her teaching certificate. Donna taught first through eighth grade in a one-room country school on the South Table between Lewellen and Oshkosh.
Donna was united in marriage to Dale Scripter on May 30, 1954 and to this union, a daughter was born, Deanne. They farmed east of Lewellen and Dale lost his life shortly there after.
On Oct. 6, 1960, Donna then married Marion “Bob” Swanson in North Platte and joined the family that God planned all along. Donna became a mother to Bob, Toni, Deanne and Dan.
She worked for 21 years as the secretary for the Morrill County Superintendent of school, retiring in 1996. Donna and Bob enjoyed 44 years of marriage and during that time she enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also enjoyed camping, gardening vegetables and flowers, sewing and spending time on their place on Blue Creek.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lewellen and served as secretary there for many years.
Survivors included, husband Bob of Bridgeport; children Bob (Eve) Swanson of Napa, Calif., Deanne (Don) Didier of Bridgeport, Dan (Heidi) Swanson of Seward, Toni (Steve) Darr of Sidney; grandchildren, Jake Swanson, Rachel Swanson, Camilla (Jason) Schmunk, Mark Didier, Amanda Didier, Stephanie (Cory) Loecker, Chris (Andrea) Darr, Rachel, John, Quade, and Jase Swanson; great-grandchildren, Nicole and Paige Schmunk; brothers, Merlin (Penny) Dilley of Alliance; sisters, Shirley Saunders of Phoenix, Ariz., Joyce (Merle) Mick of Chappell, Nadine (Kenneth) Peterson of Mexico, Mo., and Sharon (Darrel) Hood of Ogallala.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale; her parents; brothers, Jerry, Dale and Jim; and a sister, Faye.

Lawrence ‘Larry’ F. Acker
Lawrence “Larry” F. Acker died Jan. 18, 2005, at Homestead Health Care Center in Lincoln.
Services were held Friday, Jan. 21 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association of Great Plains in Lincoln.
He was born Nov. 21, 1932, to George and Helen (Beeson) Acker on a cattle/wheat ranch near Bayard.
He attended a country school near his home. He also attended schools in Bayard, St. Agnes Academy in Alliance, and graduated from Assumption Academy in Chadron in May 1951.
Larry joined the Air Force in December 1951. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for his basic training. He received his schooling for airplane radio repair at an air force base in St. Louis, Mo. He transferred to Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas until his discharge in 1955. He remained on inactive duty with the Air Force for the next four years.
Larry married Dorothy Prester Jan. 4, 1953, in Scottsbluff. The couple lived in Austin, Texas until his discharge from the Air Force. They moved to Kimball and Larry worked for Lee’s Appliance and TV Repair Service repairing televisions and radios.
In 1957, they moved to Scottsbluff where Larry opened and operated his own business, Acker’s TV Service for many years. While operating Acker’s TV Service he also worked as a contractor for Xerox Corporation repairing copiers. Shortly after that started working full-time for Xerox. He worked for Xerox until he retired at age 55.
After retirement he worked for Connecting Point in Scottsbluff repairing copiers. Larry and Dorothy moved in Lincoln in 1995, where he worked for Modern Methods and Bishops Business Equipment for a few years repairing copiers until he retired for good.
His hobbies included playing the piano and working in his big yard. He enjoyed golfing. He was talented and stayed busy with his many projects he endeavored.
Survivors are his wife, Dorothy, of 52 years; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Gary LaMay of Urbandale, Iowa and Virginia; son-in-law, Gary Carter of Lincoln; grandchildren, Tara (LaMay) and Joe Hall of Golden, Colo.; Thomas LaMay of Urbandale, Iowa and Allison Carter of Lincoln; brothers, James Acker of Gering and George Acker of Simola, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Helen Acker; brother, Joseph Acker and sister, Theresa Helen Acker.
