Alan L. 'Pee Wee' Warren
LEXINGTON — Alan L. "Pee Wee" Warren, 74, of Lexington died Aug. 16, 2000, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
He was born
June 3, 1926, to Vernon and Gladys Hoback Warren at Overton, where he graduated from high school in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 2, 1944. He served two years in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge, he attended Kearney State College for a year.
On Oct. 4, 1947, he married Eloise Prasch at Lexington. He had worked for Martin Electric, the Farm Bureau and the Grand Island Diocese of Education. He was instrumental in helping build the Overton Golf Club. He enjoyed playing golf and pool. He was involved in pool tournaments around the area. He enjoyed being a part of the Leprechaun "Coffee Club" in Lexington. He also enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes.
Mr. Warren was a member of the First Christian Church in Overton and a charter member of the American Legion in Overton and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Eagles Club in Lexington and a member of the Oddfellow Lodge for more than 50 years.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Tana (Ron) Seymour of Hastings; a son, Brent Warren of Lincoln; and a granddaughter, Melanie Kuehl of New Orleans, La.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Rescue Unit, the Heartland Military Museum or the World War II Veteran's Memorial Project.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Overton with the Rev. Dan Cleveland officiating. The casket will be closed at the church. Burial with military honors will be in the Overton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Bessie Evelyn Hendricks
Bessie Evelyn Hendricks of Kearney, formerly of North Platte, died Aug. 14, 2000, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney. She was 87.
She was born
Jan. 27, 1913, to Royal Jacob and Elizabeth Ellen Eiler Montel in Wabash, Ind., where she grew up. She graduated from Lagro High School. She attended Wheaton College and graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago with a degree in children's education in 1947. She worked for Scripture Press and cared for the elderly while she was in college.
On Sept. 6, 1947, she married Clarence William Hendricks near Milford, Ind. They lived on a ranch near Wellfleet. In 1955, they moved to a farm southwest of North Platte where they farmed until 1986, when they moved into North Platte. They were members of the Farm Bureau and she was active with children's work in the Berean Fundamental Church and later Grace Community Bible Church, where she was a founding member. She enjoyed children and missions around the world. She was known as a wonderful hostess to missionaries and friends. She had been active in 4-H as a leader when her daughters were young. Her hobbies were sewing, quilting and gardening. She had been a resident of St. John's since January 1998.
Mrs. Hendricks is survived by two daughters, Priscilla (Dennis) Millsap of Kearney and Sharon (James) Jost of LaVista; a sister-in-law, Marcella Montel of Oak Grove, Mo.; five grandchildren, Michelle (Donn) Glynn, Dustin (Melanie) Millsap, Melainie (Lonnie) Teeter, Jason Jost and Sonja Jost; and six great-grandchildren, Jerome, Jessica, Matthew, Jason, Jordan and Tabor.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Vera Esther Cooper and Grace Ray; and two brothers, John Calvin and Donald Jacob Montel.
Memorials are suggested to Grace Community Bible Church or Maranatha Bible Camp.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Grace Community Bible Church with the Revs. Michael Wing and James Jost of the Berean Fundamental Church at Bellevue officiating. Burial will be in the Wellfleet Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel and before services at the church.
Frank John Klapal
BROKEN BOW — Frank John Klapal, 80, of Broken Bow died Aug. 15, 2000, at BryanLGH West in Lincoln.
He was born
May 6, 1920, near Sargent to Fred and Bessie Scheinost Klapal. He attended rural school near Sargent.
On April 22, 1942, he married Mildred Stefka at Broken Bow. He joined the fire department as a volunteer in 1948. In February 1972, he became the city's first paid fire chief and ambulance driver. He was fire chief for 14 years. He retired in April 1986 after 45 years of service. He was active in the Civil Air Patrol, Cosmopolitan Club, Civil Defense Director and the JayCees. He received the "Boss of the Year" award from the JayCees in 1963. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge 1688, Western Bohemian Fraternal Association and the Western Fraternal Life Association.
Mr. Klapal is survived by his wife; two sons, F. Marvin (Gwen) of Denver and Bryon S. (Eula) of Castle Rock, Colo.; a brother, Eldon (Pat) of Dothan, Ala.; two brothers-in-law, Leonard (Donna) Stefka of Fort Scott, Kan., and Frank Chalupa of Grand Island; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gordon John; his parents; and an infant brother.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, the Broken Bow Fire Department or the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Dr. Charles Spence officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery in Valley County.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Veronica 'Vera' Mary Moroney
BROKEN BOW — Veronica "Vera" Mary Moroney, 93, of Broken Bow died Aug. 13, 2000, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
She was born
June 30, 1907, south of New Helena to Walter B. and Anna Knoell Williams. She graduated from Anselmo High School in 1926. She then began teacher training at St. Ursula's Academy in York. She received her teacher's certificate in 1927 and began teaching in Upper Dale Valley District 58 south of Alselmo. She taught there for three years.
On April 22, 1931, she married Thomas J. Moroney at St. Anselm's Catholic Church. Her husband died Aug. 26, 1965. In March 1996, she moved to Sandhills Manor. She enjoyed helping other people. Her family was always important to her. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and extended family in Utah. She actively participated in her Catholic faith, whether at home on in the nursing home.
Mrs. Moroney is survived by three sons, Thomas E. (Earleen) of Grand Island, William (Sandra) of Merna and Roger (Shirley) of Lake Dallas, Texas; a sister, Marjory Ford of Provo, Utah; three grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a stepgreat-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends and nursing staff.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers; and a step-granddaughter.
Memorials are suggested to the Merna Fire and Rescue Unit.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo with the Rev. Mark Maresh officiating. Burial will be in the Dale Catholic Cemetery near Merna.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a Christian wake at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow.
Leonard E. 'Jiggs' Reynolds
PHOENIX — Leonard E. "Jiggs Reynolds, of Phoenix, brother-in-law of Maxine Reynolds of North Platte, died July 22, 2000, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was 81.
He was born
Jan. 4, 1919, to Orval and Maisie Reynolds in Grand Island, where he graduated from high school in 1938. He was a star athlete and lettered in both basketball and football. He was a member of the 1936 Nebraska state championship football team, which was undefeated, untied and unscored upon.
He joined the Nebraska National Guard in June 1940 and trained in Camp Robinson, Ark. He later went to Officer Candidate School and was commissioned in 1942. He was assigned to the 9th Infantry Division and served in North Africa, Sicily, England, France and Germany. He was wounded in action in Africa and received the Purple Heart, plus many other medals.
On Dec. 24, 1945, he married Celeste "Sis" Walters of Hastings. After World War II, he served in Korea for 18 months and again in Germany. He was later stationed in Colorado and Nebraska. He retired as a major in 1962. He lived in Phoenix since 1964. He was active in Masons, Scottish Rite and El Zariba Shrine. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed playing golf and had scored six holes-in-one.
Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife; his daughter, Peggy Mitchell of Phoenix and his son, Robert of Colorado Springs.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Orval and Gene and two grandsons.

Services were July 25, 2000, at Greenwood Memory Lawn Serenity Mausoleum in Phoenix.
Rhoda Judith Johnson Seay
FARNAM — Rhoda Judith Johnson Seay of Greeley, Colo., formerly of Farnam, died Aug. 7, 2000, at Kenton Manor in Greeley. She was 90.
She was born
June 13, 1910, to Emil and Judith Isaacson Johnson at Bertrand, where she lived until she was 9. In 1919, her family moved to the Farnam area where she attended public school.
In September 1928, she married Marion Johnson of Farnam. They farmed in the Farnam area for 40 years. They also did custodial work for the Farnam Public School. In 1959, they moved to Greeley. Her husband died Jan. 19, 1961.
In January 1970, she married Thomas Donald Seay of Estes, Colo., where they lived until they moved to Ault, Colo. She then moved to Kenton Manor at Greeley. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When her health permitted, she spent many hours doing embroidery work. She enjoyed fishing, flowers and making lap robes for the veterans hospitals and nursing homes. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Ault Senior Center.
Mrs. Seay is survived by her husband; two sons, Gordon (Elen) of LaGrand, Ore., and Raymond (Agnes) of Wallowa, Ore.; three sisters, Aliene (Harlan) Stewart of LaCanada, Calif., Dorothy (Dean) Milner of Imperial and Adelay (Harry) Bassler of Tehachapi, Calif.; three brothers, Ardell (Jean) of Ogallala, Donald (Karen) of Chadron and Forrest (Jewel) of Gothenburg; eight grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene: her parents; four sisters; and three brothers.
Memorial services were Aug. 11, 2000, at Adamson Memorial Chapel in Greeley. Burial was in the Ault Cemetery.
Walter Tressler
OGALLALA — Walter Sherman Tressler, 98, lifelong resident of Ogallala, died Aug. 13, 2000, at his home.
He was born
Feb. 28, 1902, at Ogallala to Wesley and Margaret E. Lute Tressler. He attended Ogallala Public Schools. He lived on the family farm and operated the farming business with his brother, Harry Tressler.
On Jan. 26, 1941, he married Genevieve Dierks in Ewing. They lived on the family farm south of Ogallala until they moved into town in 1981. He was a member of First Congregational, United Church of Christ.
Mr. Tressler is survived by two daughters, Ann (Ray) Herbel and Wilda Kay Tressler, both of Ogallala; a sister, Ruth Bourne of Dover, N.H.; three sisters-in-law, Edith Tressler of Ogallala, Virginia Tressler of Conroe, Texas, and Melva Tressler of Pasco, Wash.; three stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his son, Walter S.; his parents; a sister, Esther Tressler and four brothers, Dwight, Harry, Lloyd and Wesley.
Memorials are suggested to the Keith County Historical Society and First Congregational, United Church of Christ.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Congregational, United Church of Christ in Ogallala with the Rev. Phil Ewert officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala.¤
Steven LeRoy Campbell Sr.
Steven LeRoy Campbell Sr., 38, of North Platte died Aug. 12, 2000, at his home.
He was born
Aug. 11, 1962, at Haxtun, Colo., to Robert Lee and B. Thelma Mitchell Campbell. He grew up in North Platte, where he attended school. He worked at various jobs.
He married Elaine "Sue" Benedict at Curtis. They lived in Maywood.
On Aug. 27, 1997, he married Pamela Jo Stoner in North Platte. They lived in North Platte. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife, Pamela; a daughter, Desa Rae Campbell at home; two sons, Steven LeRoy Jr., and Frank Lynn, both at home; his mother, B. Thelma (Jim) Ripka of Fort Lupton, Colo.; his father, Robert Lee (Mary) of North Platte; three sisters, Debra (Rick) McEntire of North Platte, Rhonda (Tom) Broker of Denver and Tammy (Ron) Nixon of Broomfield, Colo.; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Stoner; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey.
Memorials are suggested to Alcoholics Anonymous or to the family.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. Duane Johnson of the Riverside Baptist Church officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be in the North Platte Cemetery.
Maxine Hammond
VALENTINE — Maxine Hammond of North Platte, formerly of Valentine, died Aug. 11, 2000, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. She was 84.
Mrs. Hammond is survived her husband, Joe; two sons, Rich of North Platte and Bill of Ogallala; a sister, Pauline Ballard of Valentine; and two brothers, L.C. Beel Jr., and Jerry Beel, both of Valentine.
Memorials are suggested to St. John's Episcopal Church in Valentine.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church in Valentine. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine.

Luella M. 'Marie' Hickenbottom
CALLAWAY — Luella M. "Marie" Hickenbottom, 68, of Callaway died Aug. 13, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
She was born
Oct. 8, 1931, at Lincoln to Milford E. and Velda M. Phillips Cadwallader. The family moved to Salt Lake City when she was young. She attended school at Baker City, Ore., and graduated from high school in Moscow, Idaho, in 1949. She attended Idaho State University at Pocatello, Idaho. After college, she moved to Denver where she was a nurse in a hospital.
On Sept. 1, 1956, she married Leslie "Bud" Hickenbottom in Denver. They moved to Callaway, where they raised their children. She was a housewife and her husband farmed. In 1969, she went to work at Becton-Dickinson in Broken Bow. She also worked at Jerry's Steakhouse, the Callaway Hospital and Right Drug until 1986, when they opened Bud and Marie's Steakhouse in Callaway. They operated the steakhouse until they retired in April 1994.
Mrs. Hickenbottom enjoyed camping, crafts, gardening, cooking and being with her friends and family. Although she had never been on a farm during her childhood, she enjoyed helping her husband on the farm, driving the tractor, hauling grain to the elevators and helping out with other chores. She also enjoyed her dog, Kooter.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Micki (Rene) Twohig of Gothenburg, Teresa (Joe) Schierbeek of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Cheryl (Lee) Nielsen of Wood River; two sons, Dean (Karen) of Hermiston, Ore., and Mike (Stacy) of Cozad; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Cadwallader of Twisp, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and an infant granddaughter.
Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Foundation or to Down Syndrome Research.
The body was cremated.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Callaway with the Rev. Al Seadore officiating. Inurnment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway.
