Irene M. Enfield

Irene M. Enfield, 89, of Ogallala, formerly of Arthur, died Sept. 29, 2000, at the Lewellen Nursing Home.

Survivors include a son, David (Barb) of Brule and a granddaughter, Candi Enfield of North Platte.

The body was cremated at the Central Nebraska Crematory in Paxton. Inurnment of cremains will be at a later date.

Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge.

William Lars Hansen Sr.

William Lars Hansen Sr., 69, of North Platte died Sept. 29, 2000, at his home.

He was born icon Aug. 15, 1931, at Elm Creek to Arthur William Lars and Rosella Margaret Palmer Hansen. The family moved to Haigler to farm. They then moved north of Brady and then to North Platte in 1941. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1950. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Japan, Korea, France, Vietnam, Germany and retired from Fort Riley, Kan., in January 1975.

On Jan. 4, 1956, he married Yoshiko "Mary" Kawamoto in Tokyo, Japan. His wife died in France in 1962.

In March 1963, he married Barbara Windsor in Omaha. They were divorced in 1974.

In June 1980, he married Meri McFadden at Paxton and they were divorced in 1985.

Mr. Hansen was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Platte Valley Masonic Lodge 32 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Memphis Orient of Tennessee, Al Kaly Temple of the Shrine in Pueblo, Colo., P.R. Halligan Post 163 American Legion, Moose Lodge 551 and the Federated Order of Eagles Aerie 2839. He was a life member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1504 and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include three daughters, Michael Lynne Hansen, Dianna Lynne Hansen and Catherine Meri Hansen, all of North Platte; a son, William Lars Jr. of North Platte; a stepson, William John Mann of Las Vegas, Nev.; three brothers, Robert Vincent (Violet) of Commerce City, Colo., Carl Leon of Dennison, Texas, and Raymond Charles (Darlene) of North Platte; a half sister, Theresa "Pat" Flickenger of Lodi, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Kacie, Tayler, Sydnie, Ashley, Jacque, Bryon and Austin James; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Phyllis Delores Fruit; and a brother, Jack Roger.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in North Platte with the Rev. Thomas Dillon as celebrant. Burial with Masonic rites and military honors will be in North Platte Cemetery.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte and before the rosary and services.

Thomas Lee Comeau

DIX — Thomas Lee, brother of Rita Jean Hankins of North Platte, died Dec. 3, 2000, at his home. He was 61.

He was born icon June 16, 1939, in Wakefield to Vincent D. and Charlette Barto Comeau. He left home to become a cowboy when he was 13. He joined the U.S. Army in September 1954 and was discharged in June 1955. He also was a ship fitter and welder in Houston, a truck driver on the Alaska Alcan Highway and worked on ocean going tugs transporting barges to South America. He lived in various places including North Platte and Pine Bluffs, Wyo.

He lived in Dix for more than 16 years. He was the owner and operator of a trucking business. He was a longtime member of the Teamsters. He enjoyed being a trucker.

Mr. Lee is survived by his mother, Charlette Alma (Clerphe "Frenchman") Harrington of Goodrich, Texas; two daughters, Ruth Elaine Norton of Denver and Charlotte Irene Comeau of Shepherd, Texas; three sons, Levi Lee Comeau of Pine Bluffs, Arthur Lee Comeau of Elba and Charles Allen Comeau of Grand Island; his sister; a brother, Kenneth Martin Petry of Goodrich; his close friend, Carole Holland of Dix; several grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Lee Comeau and his father.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert Maurice Donnelly

Robert Maurice Donnelly, 87, of North Platte died Dec. 4, 2000, at Premier Estates in North Platte.

He was born icon June 21, 1913, at Fullerton to Charles Franklin and Hattie Caswell Donnelly.

On July 7, 1944, he married Henrietta Brand at Smith Center, Kan. He owned and operated Donnelly's Battery Shop. He also worked for the City of North Platte Sanitation Department for many years. He operated his own auto salvage yard before he retired. He lived in or around North Platte for the remainder of his life.

Mr. Donnelly is survived by his wife; a daughter, Jean (Herb) Anderson of North Platte; two sons, Marvin (Bridget) Donnelly of San Antonio and Larry (Dorothy) Brand of Hickory Ridge, Ark.; grandchildren, Kari Donnelly of Colorado Springs, Colo., Maurice Donnelly of Poteet, Texas, Paul Anderson of Fremont and Travis Anderson of North Platte; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Kaitlynn Anderson of Fremont and Zachary Donnelly of Poteet; eight stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Maurice in 1971; his parents; two sisters, Elsie Snyder and Gladys Clark; and five brothers, Oscar, Harold, William, Frederick and Everett.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army Church in North Platte with Captain Kris Wood officiating. Burial will be in North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.

Thelma C. Gaffney

ST. PAUL — Thelma C. Gaffney of St. Paul, formerly of North Platte, died Dec. 4, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. She was 76.

She was born icon Oct. 15, 1924, at Logan, Kan., to Thomas and Mabel Septer Fix. The family moved to Holdrege and she attended Holdrege Public Schools. She graduated from Speed (Kansas) High School. She received her bachelor's degree in education from Kearney State College and special education training from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.

On Feb. 5, 1944, she married Cloyd G. Gaffney at Alma. They farmed near Long Island, Kan., and she taught in rural schools near Orleans. In 1956, they moved to Alma and she taught at Republican City. In 1964, they moved to North Platte and she taught in various North Platte schools. She also taught the GED and reading programs at the North Platte Community College. She retired in 1988 and they returned to Alma in 1989. They moved to St. Paul in 1994 to be closer their daughter.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was a former member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North Platte, the Nebraska Education Association and North Platte Education Association. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their activities.

Mrs. Gaffney is survived by her daughter, Colleen (Monte) Brouillette of St. Paul; a brother, Dean Fix of Phillipsburg, Kan.; two grandchildren, Suzy (Rick) Peters of St. Paul and Travis (Angie) Brouillette of Eustis; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband March 9, 1998; her parents; and a brother, Russell Fix.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Emergency Medical Technicians or the donor's choice.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul with the Rev. Michael McDermott officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge.

Alverta G. Harvey Hargis

DOGWOOD, Mo. — Alverta G. Harvey Hargis of Dogwood, Mo., mother of Violet Towne of North Platte, died Dec. 3, 2000. She was 92.

She was born icon Aug. 14, 1908, to Albert George and Matilda Jane Streeter Underhill Harvey in a covered wagon in Chase County. She grew up in a sod house until the family moved to a frame house in 1916. She attended Sunnyside School Primary and Plainview School in Wauneta through the eighth grade.

On Oct. 17, 1925, she married Thomas J. Nichols. They had six children.

On Oct. 4, 1954, she married Philip R. Hargis at Holyoke, Colo. She attended Dogwood Nazarene Church for 53 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed quilting and baking apple pies.

Mrs. Hargis is survived by her husband, Philip; three daughters, Veva Berry of Albany, Ga., Violet (Lyle) Towne of North Platte and Joyce (Junior) Inman of Fordland, Mo.; a son, John (Diane) Nichols of Goodland, Kan.; a sister, May Heye of Troy, Idaho; 21 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pansy Nichols; a son, Nathan Nichols; her parents; six sisters; two brothers; and a son-in-law, Jack Berry.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Clinkingbeard Chapel in Ava, Mo. Burial will be in Union Chapel near Fordland.

Clinkingbeard Chapel of Ava is in charge.

Roger 'Jake' U. Jacobson

Roger "Jake" U. Jacobson, 58, of Arnold died Dec. 3, 2000, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born icon Jan. 3, 1942, at home on the Tallin Table near Arnold to Clarence and Iloe Schmitz Jacobson. He graduated from Arnold High School in 1961.

On March 24, 1962, he married Karen L. Haskell at Halsey. In 1973, he started the family business, Jake's Trucking. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arnold. He served as the church deacon.

Mr. Jacobson is survived by his wife; two sons, Jerry and Jim (Stephanie), both of Arnold; a brother, Chuck of Lincoln; two aunts, Ruth Strasburg and Lucille Schmitz; two uncles, Eldridge Jacobson and Udell (Garnet) Schmitz; and three grandchildren, Jamie, Cole and Haley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Miles and Marlin.

Memorials are suggested to the Roger Jacobson Memorial Fund.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Arnold with the Revs. Jim Ferguson and Victor Karg officiating. Burial will be in the Tallin Cemetery south of Arnold.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Arnold Funeral Home.

Marty Don Martin

OMAHA — Marty Don Martin, son of Joyce Martin of North Platte, died Dec. 1, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha. He was 37.

He was born icon Feb. 7, 1963, in Moline, Ill., to Donald and Joyce Martin. He graduated from Hershey High School in 1981. He attended Peru State College and Garden City Community College. He played on the baseball teams at both colleges.

On Dec. 22, 1988, he married Mary F. Galvin in North Platte. He worked for Nebraska Public Power District at Sutherland. He was employed at Paston Verling Steel Company in Omaha.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife; his children, Madelyn Francis and Matthew John, both of Omaha; his mother; a sister, Cathy (Bill) Cumming of Hershey; a brother, Rory (Paula) of Chicago; his grandmother, Ora Behrends of Gold Crust Retirement Center in Adams; and nieces and nephews, Dustin, Shane and Tessa Cumming and Amanda Martin.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials are suggested to his children and may be sent to Mary Galvin, 2931 Dupont Street, Omaha, NE 68105.

Services and burial will be at Crab Orchard.

Lee M. Plank Sr.

Lee M. Plank Sr., 69, of North Platte died Dec. 4, 2000, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born icon July 3, 1931, to Emil and Margaret Block Plank at Gothenburg, where he graduated from high school. He joined the U.S. Navy. He was a machinist for Sperry-New Holland. He was a 50-year member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1504 and had served as All State Post Commander at Casper, Wyo. He was also a member of Eagles Aerie 2839 and the Moose Lodge.

Mr. Plank is survived by three sons, Lee Max Jr. (Almeda J.) of Hollister, Calif., and Dan E (Susan L.) and Adam James, both of Fremont; a sister, Orvene Sturgeon of Denver; a brother, Robert L. (Marjorie) of Gothenburg; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Almeda, James and Kathryn Plank; and a special companion, Bobby Harrop of North Platte.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara J. Plank; an infant son, Robert J.; and a granddaughter, Amanda Plank.

A memorial has been established.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church north of Gothenburg with the Rev. Jeffrey Ruetten officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery at Gothenburg.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
