Eileen Eleanor Synovec

Eileen Eleanor Synovec, 76, of North Platte died Nov. 29, 2000, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.

She was born icon Aug. 6, 1924, to Louis C. and Anna Marie Bramer Hermanni at Pleasanton, where she graduated from high school in 1940. In 1941, she moved to Kearney and was a secretary at the Kearney Air Base.

In 1947, she married George Joseph Anderson. Her husband died in 1975. She moved to North Platte in 1951 and was a secretary for the Chamber of Commerce for several years. Later she was manager of the North Platte Travel Agency until she retired in 1989.

On Jan. 13, 1983, she married Lloyd Vernon Synovec at North Platte. She was devoted to her family and she enjoyed her grandchildren. She enjoyed music and was an excellent dancer. She also enjoyed the outdoors and outdoor sports.

Mrs. Synovec was a volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Senior Center. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior and sang in the adult choir. She was also a member of Altrusa, RSVP, American Association of Retired Persons and Diamond K Kiwanis.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd; three sons by marriage, Robert (Muffie) Gregg of Stapleton, Mark (Susan) Synovec of Topeka, Kan., and Scott (Shellia) Synovec of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, June Jackson of Berkeley, Calif.; a niece, Robin Jackson; and six grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the church, the Salvation Army or the donor's choice.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in North Platte with the Rev. John Schaefer officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be in the columbarium of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior.

There will be no visitation. Those wishing to sign the memorial register may do so from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte and prior to services Saturday at the church.¤

Lawrence E. Dilley

Lawrence Elwood Dilley, 83, of North Platte, formerly of Grand Island, died Oct. 26, 2000, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born icon on Oct. 3, 1917, in Kearney to Robert W. and Iva A. Vick Dilley. He was raised in North Platte and graduated from high school in 1935. After high school, he worked for the Dixon Eye Clinic. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force July 9, 1942.

On Sept. 18, 1943, he married Lucille Anderson in Goldsboro, N.C. They moved to North Platte after he was discharged Feb. 9, 1946. They moved to Grand Island in 1974, where he managed an optical company. In 1999, they moved back to North Platte.

Mr. Dilley belonged to the First Presbyterian Church in North Platte, Platte Valley Lodge 32 A.F. & A.M., and the Signet Chapter 5 Order of the Eastern Star. He was an avid walker and also enjoyed refinishing and upholstering furniture, photography, music and poetry.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, DeeAnn Dilley of Lincoln; two sons, Tim (Pat) Dilley of North Platte and Gary (Anne) Dilley of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Russell.

Memorials may be directed to the church, the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church at 1901 West Leota in North Platte. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery south of Maxwell, with military honors.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Robert R. Hinde Jr.

Robert Reginald Hinde Jr., 75, of North Platte died October 25, 2000, at his home.

He was born icon Oct. 30, 1924, to Robert Sr. and M. Marie Groff Hinde at Hays, Kan. He grew up in Salina, Kan. He graduated with a degree in architectural design from the University of Nebraska in 1950. He played centerfield for the University of Nebraska in 1948 and 1949 and they won the Big Seven Championship both years.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corp 3rd Division, 5th Amphibious Corps during World War II. He saw action on the island of Iwo Jima and Tinnean and served for six months after the war, during the occupation in Japan.

On Aug. 21, 1950, he married Barbara Ann Drost in Ogallala. They moved to North Platte in 1957, where he and his brother, Gene, established their own private architectural practice. He maintained a successful practice in North Platte for more than 40 years.

Mr. Hinde was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the American Legion Post 163 and the Elks Club. He served on numerous boards and committees throughout his life. He was a past state president of the American Institute of Architects and Western Chapter, North Platte Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the North Platte Planning Commission, the Ambassadors, Clean City Committee, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, the North Platte Board of Adjustments, past chairman of the Board of Directors of the Opportunity Center and the Region II Board of Mental Retardation. He was appointed by former Governor Exon to serve on the task force to the Nebraska State Fire Marshall. He was one of the originators for the 20th Century Veterans Memorial Association and actively participated in the fund raising campaigns for the Salvation Army and the St. Patrick's Parish Center.

He coached his sons and daughters in softball and baseball when they were young. In his later years, he never missed a grandson or granddaughter's ball game. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed coaching the St. Patrick's boys golf team and the North Platte High School girl's golf team.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary (Shawn) Harrison and Diane (Scott) Ferguson, both of North Platte; four sons, Dave (Deb) of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Michael (Jean), Timothy (Marcia) and Pat (Bunny), all of North Platte; three brothers, Gene of Salina, William (Delores) of Hot Springs, Ark., and John of Phoenix; 18 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives including a special nephew, Stephen Bradley.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the church or the Alzheimer's Association.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. R.L. Piontkowski as celebrant. Burial will be in Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, with military honors graveside.

Christian wake services will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte and prior to services at the church Monday

John 'Jack' Hanson

John "Jack" Hanson of Ocala, Fla., a longtime resident of North Platte, died Dec. 7, 2000, at the Ocala Regional Medical Center. He was 65.
He was born icon Sept. 17, 1935, to John Peter and Ruby Virginia Hanson in North Platte, where he graduated from high school in 1954. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 to 1958. He also served in the Marine Corps Honor Guard.
He lived in North Platte for most of his life. He was president and co-owner of Sixth Street Food Stores for more than 25 years. He was a longtime sponsor and supporter of many community organizations, including Nebraskaland Days and North Platte Girls Softball. He was inducted into the Nebraska Softball Hall of Fame. He retired in 1992. He and his wife, Pat, moved to Ocala, where they lived for the past seven years. They bred and raced thoroughbred horses.
Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife; five daughters, Sharon Lynn (Mark) Frey of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary Elise Aust of Omaha, Amy (Rick) Gerlach of DeWitt, Jill (Jim) Siemers of North Platte and Jackie (Ty) Lucas of Boise, Idaho; a son, John (Lynette) of Omaha; a brother, Jerry (Alice) of North Platte; an aunt, Helen Hanson of North Platte; 15 grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles, including an uncle, Ray Hanson.
Memorials are suggested to the Platte Valley Girls Softball Association.
Memorial Mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in North Platte with the Rev. Richard Piontkowski as celebrant.
The will be no visitation.
Carpenter Memorial Chapel of North Platte is in charge.

Milton M. Johnston

LEXINGTON — Milton Maynard Johnston of McPherson, Kan., formerly of Lexington, died Dec. 9, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in McPherson. He was 96.
He was born icon Nov. 9, 1904, to Roscoe C. and Mary L. Wilder Johnston at Lexington, where he graduated from high school in 1928.
On Sept. 10, 1927, he married Mildred E. Decker at Lexington. His wife died March 21, 2000. They were married for 72 years and spent most of their life on the farm three miles north of Lexington. They moved to Lexington and then to Park Avenue Estates. In October 1998, they moved to The Cedars nursing home complex in McPherson.
Mr. Johnston was a member of the Evangelical Free Church at Lexington. He was an 18-year member of the Board of Education, a 15-year member of the co-op board and was a charter member of the first 4-H Club in Dawson County. He was a past member of the Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his daughter, Naomi Van Cleave of Prairie Village, Kan.; his son, Joe of McPherson; a sister, Jane Lossi of Crawford; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and a brother.
Memorials are suggested to the Alliance Boys Ranch at Alliance or the Evangelical Free Church in Lexington.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Lexington with the Rev. Duane Russell officiating. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

LeRoy G. 'Lee" Kettering

LeRoy Garland "Lee" Kettering, 30, of North Platte died Dec. 10, 2000, at BryanLGH Hospital in Lincoln as the result of a car-pedestrian accident.
He was born icon March 1, 1970, to LeRoy W. and Dyette E. Tillman Kettering at North Platte. He was raised and attended school in Hershey, where he graduated from high school in 1988. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad Road as a switchman/conductor at the time of his death.
He enjoyed working with his co-workers at the railroad. He also enjoyed working with cars, engines and heavy machinery. He had worked for Fehrs Tractor in North Platte prior to his employment on the railroad. He was a real handyman. He appreciated his many special friends and would enjoyed doing things for them. His grandfather Garland "Tillie" Tillman was a special person in his life.
Mr. Kettering is survived by his parents; two sisters, DeAnna (Mark) Lafferty and ReNae (Travis) Ogden, both of North Platte; his grandmothers, Florence Hazel Tillman of North Platte and Dora Kettering of Denver; nieces and nephews, Justin, Matthew and Kelsey Lafferty and Tyler Ogden; and aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends, including special friends, Bill and Marli Kuhl.
He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Garland "Tillie" Tillman and Cecil E. Kettering.
Memorials are suggested to Make-A-Wish, Shriners Children's Hospital or the donor's choice.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Adams & Swanson Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. Curtis Holzworth of the Evangelical Free Church of Grand Island officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Sutherland.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

William Edward Pedersen

STONEHAM, Colo. — William Edward Pedersen, 80, of Stoneham, Colo., formerly of Bushnell, died Dec. 8, 2000, at Stoneham.
He was born icon March 9, 1920, to William and Anna Trimbley Pedersen at Bushnell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Sept. 27, 1950, he married Alma C. Howe in Montesano, Wash. They lived in the Stoneham area. His wife died in 1988. He enjoyed working on his farm.
Mr. Pedersen is survived by his daughter, Melody (Cruz) Contreraz of Snyder, Colo., and his grandchildren, Misty and Carlos Contreraz, both of Snyder.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters and three daughters.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling, Colo., with the Rev. Gary Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jerry Walker

KENESAW — Jerry L. Walker of Kenesaw, formerly of Broken Bow, died Dec. 10, 2000, at Haven Home in Kenesaw. He was 69.
He was born icon Aug. 21, 1931, at Lander, Wyo., to Ray and Jean Lucerne Walker. He grew up in Wyoming, where he attended school. He worked as a farm laborer.
On Nov. 17, 1978, he married June Miller at Denver. In 1980, they moved to Broken Bow. His wife died May 26, 1988. He lived at Custer Heights in Broken Bow for 10 years and later moved to Regency Apartments. In May 2000, he moved into Haven Home. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow.
Mr. Walker is survived by three stepdaughters, Joyce Shaw and Judy Emigh, both of Lincoln and Virginia Morris of Albion.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials are suggested to Custer Care Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Philipsen officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Guadalupe Duarte

LEXINGTON — Guadalupe Duarte, 25, of Lexington died Dec. 6, 2000, at Lexington.

She was born icon Dec. 3, 1975, at Penjamillo, Michoacan, Mexico, to Luis and Adelina Duarte.

Miss Duarte is survived by her son, Jesus Antonio Munoz Duarte of Lexington; her parents of Lexington; three sisters, Trinidad Duarte of Mexico and M. de la Luz Duarte and Concepcion Duarte, both of Lexington; and seven brothers, Jesus, Silvino, Jorge, Enrique and Alberto, all of Lexington, Luis of California and Martin of Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington with the Rev. Don Buhrman officiating. Burial will be in Panjamillo, Michoacan, Mexico, at a later date.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at the chapel.

Daniel Prado

LEXINGTON — Daniel Prado, 20, of Lexington died Dec. 6, 2000, at Lexington.

He was born icon Dec. 1, 1980, at Colonia Granjas, Mexico, to Jose Ramon Prado and Maria Cervantes Perez. In 1991, the family moved to Lexington where he graduated from high school in 1999. He enjoyed playing soccer. At the time of his death, he worked for Orthman Manufacturing in Lexington.

Mr. Prado is survived by his parents of Lexington; his sister, Maria Elana Prado of Lexington; his brother, Ramon of Lexington; his grandparents of Mexico; and aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington with the Rev. Don Buhrman officiating. Burial will be in San Miguel, Mexico, at a later date.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Ed Siedschlag

CURTIS — Ed Siedschlag, 67, of Curtis died Dec.7, 2000, at Curtis.

He was born icon July 10, 1933, at Atlanta, Neb., to William Herman and Clara Mae Castor Siedschlag. He grew up in Douglas, Neb., where he graduated from high school in 1952. He served during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1957. He spent three years in Japan and two years in Hawaii, where he used to surf off of Wakaii Beach.

On July 31, 1960, he married Norma Jean Price at McCook. They lived in Anaheim, Calif., for more than 30 years. He was a truck driver and delivered chemicals. He enjoyed going to Sea World in San Diego. They moved to North Platte and he drove a gravel truck for Western Materials, where he was employed for the last nine years. In 1999, they moved to Curtis.

Mr. Siedschlag was a member of the American Legion Post in North Platte. He enjoyed working on cars and was great at fixing things around the house.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Charlotte (Robert) Massey of Anaheim; two sons, Douglas of Curtis and Hody (Barbara) of Cypress, Calif.; a sister, Mary Ann (Dick) Guthrie of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a brother, Henry (Charmaine) of Venice, Neb., and their family, Gary (Connie) Siedschlag, Cindy Mayhew and Les Siedschlag; six grandchildren, Crystal, Justin, Jason, Kristi, Brian and Jennifer; and an aunt, Stella Miner and her son Richard (Kelly) Miner of Palisade.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Curtis with the Rev. Shirley Carpenter officiating. Burial with military honors by the Curtis American Legion Post 95 will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the Blase-Wetzel Funeral Home in Curtis.
