Victor E. Teten

Age 81 of rural Nebraska City, NE passed away on Sunday; May 10 at Duff’s Friendship Villa in Nebraska City, NE.

Vic was born icon of November 17, 1927 at Talmage, NE; the son of Edward R. and Anna C. (Eiben) Teten. He was baptized on Dec. 18, 1927 and confirmed on April 6, 1941 at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Talmage, NE. He attended school and graduated from the Talmage High School at Talmage, NE with the class of 1944.

Vic served in the US Army during the Korean War. He entered service on January 19, 1951 and was honorably discharged on October 18, 1952 as Cpl.

Vic was united in marriage to Georgia Lechner on January 20, 1967 at the Bethel United Church of Christ in Nebraska City, NE. He was a life long farmer and member of the American Legion and the VFW. He formerly was member of the Eagles and Elks Clubs.

He is survived by his beloved wife Georgia Teten of Nebraska City; three sons: Michael Teten and wife Judy of Norfolk, NE, Allen Teten of Nebraska City, NE and Loyd Teten of Nebraska City, NE; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; daughters-in-law: Bobbi, Kristy and Sharon; a sister Viola Grotrian and husband Donald of Auburn, NE; one brother Roger Teten and wife Mary of Talmage, NE; other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Merlyn, a nephew Mark and his father and mother-in-law: George and Emma (Schomerus) Lechner.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. (May 12) at the Bethel United Church of Christ with Rev. Rodger Good officiating. Burial will be in the Wyuka Cemetery with the complete military services conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and the Talmage American Legion Post.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.

Memorials may be given to the Bethel United Church of Christ in Nebraska City.

Lydia L. Driskell

Lydia L. Driskell, age 89 of Shenandoah, IA; formerly Riverton, IA passed away on Friday; May 8, 2009 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, IA.

Lydia was born icon on September 22, 1919 at Trail, Missouri; the daughter of Fred and Belva Parsley. She was united in marriage to Ray Driskell and he preceded her in death.

Lydia worked for many years at Henry Fields Nursery in Shenandoah, IA where she was a Propagator. She also helped with the farming alongside her husband Ray near Utterback Cemetery where she will be laid to rest. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Riverton, IA.

She is survived by a grandson Damon Driskell and wife Mindy of rural Adams, NE; three great-granddaughters: Cassandra, Madeline and Caroline; a sister Zelma Boatwright of Zanoni, MO and a brother Doyle Parsley of Oregon; other family and friends.

In addition to her husband Ray, she was preceded in death by a son Larry Ray Driskell and his wife Alexa.

Funeral Services will be held Monday; May 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. graveside at the Mt. Zion (Utterback) Cemetery near Riverton, IA with Pastor Clarence Schaffner officiating. Burial will follow the services. The family will gather at the

Rash-Gude Funeral Home, Hamburg, IA at 1:15 p.m. Monday for the procession to the cemetery.

Visitation will be open from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday; May 10 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.

Memorials may be given to the Riverton Fire/Rescue Dept. in Riverton, IA.

Naoma C. Eloge

Naoma C. Eloge, age 83 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Tuesday; May 5, 2009 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.

She was born icon on March 23, 1926 at Wallace, NE; the daughter of Forest and Bessie May (Polston) Comstock. She was united in marriage to Alvin L. Eloge on May 23, 1947 at Hiawatha, KS.

Naoma worked at American Meter Company in Nebraska City and also at the Pendleton Sewing Factory. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children: Michael Bascom of Auburn, NE, Nikki Oberg and husband Rod of Marietta, GA, Ronda Wigington and husband John of Nebr. City and Deb Witte of Nebr. City, NE; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; special friends: Arnie Kreifels, Lorene Zimmerman and June Blevins all of Nebr. City; other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband on October 2, 1983, a brother Chet and a sister Valda.

Funeral Services will be held held Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. graveside at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Peru, NE; burial will follow the services. The family will gather at the Gude Mortuary at 1:00 p.m. Friday for the procession to the cemetery,.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City. The casket will remain closed.

Memorials may be given to the Arthritis Foundation in her memory.

Beatta Rathke

Beatta Rathke, age 93 of Nebr. City, NE passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.

Beatta Rathke was born icon on December 6, 1915 to William and Bertha (Schultz) Ludwig of Beemer, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church southwest of Beemer, NE.

Beatta married Ruben Rathke on February 5, 1935 at St. John Lutheran Church, southwest of Beemer, NE. Following their marriage they worked on farms in Cuming County, until 1942, when they moved to a farm near Peru, NE. In 1948 they moved to a farm south of Nebraska City, in 1955 moved into Nebr. City, and in 1992 moved to the Ambassador. In 1996 they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

She worked in several factories in Nebr. City and later did domestic work until 1986 when she retired. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Nebr. City since 1953 . She sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for quite a few years, was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the International Lutheran Laymen’s League. She was a member of A.A.R.P. and was a volunteer of the Ambassador Care Center and volunteer member of the Red Cross.

Those left to cherish her memory include one son Lloyd Rathke and wife Carol of Iowa City, IA and two daughters Karen Johnson and husband Daryl of Daggett, MI and June Wadley and husband Jerry of Guymon, OK; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben; her parents, 4 sisters, 1 brother and 3 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City, NE with Rev. John Cotton officiating. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City, NE.

The family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Lutheran Hour, Bethesda Lutheran Homes or the donor’s favorite charity.

Frances R. Spidell

Frances R. Spidell, age 76 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Sunday morning; April 26, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Frances was born icon on May 1, 1932 at Dixon, NE; the daughter of Leo and Bertha (Messenger) O’Flaherty. She attended school and graduated from St. Bernard’s Academy (now Lourdes Central Catholic) in Nebraska City with the class of 1950.

She was united in marriage to Dean A. Spidell on July 16, 1950 at Topeka, KS and to this union eleven children were born: Patricia, John, Rick, Vincent, Mary Lou, Karen, David, Diana, James, Mark and Cathy. Frances was a devoted wife and mother always tending to the needs of her family. She loved -and stayed very busy-making quilts and scrapbooking.

She is survived by her eleven children: Patricia Stoner and husband Leland , Karen Mikkelsen, David Spidell and wife Teresa, Diana Reynolds and husband Jim, James Spidell and wife Sandra, Mark Spidell and Cathy Moore and husband Lonnie all of Nebraska City; John Spidell and wife Joyce of Weeping Water, NE, Rick Spidell and wife Lisa of Otoe, NE, Vincent Spidell and wife Jeannie of Killeen, TX and Mary Lou Clark and husband Barry of Canton, OH; 29 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Dennis O‘Flaherty and wife Midge and Jerry O‘Flaherty and wife Phyllis both of Nebr. City and Clem O‘Flaherty and wife Bonnie of Lincoln, NE; other family and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband Dean on Nov. 30, 1997, a sister Peggy Damme, three brothers: Patrick, Gary and Michael O’Flaherty as well as her parents.

Funeral Services for Frances Spidell will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary‘s Catholic Church in Nebraska City with Fr. Mark Cyza celebrating the Mass; burial will be in the Wyuka Cemetery at Nebr. City.

A rosary will be recited Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary followed by the family greeting friends.

Memorials may be given to Tabitha Hospice in her memory.

Leonard J. "Pete" Pfeiffer

Leonard J. "Pete" Pfeiffer, age 88 of Nebraska City passed away on Friday; April 24, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City.

Leonard was born icon on October 14, 1920 at rural Nebraska City, NE; the son of Andrew J. and Theresa (Meyer) Pfeiffer. He was united in marriage to Helen Lee Coslett on August 30, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City, NE; and to this union five children were born: Allan, Mary Kay, Mark, Julie and Daniel. Leonard was a longtime farmer southwest of Nebraska City and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #3152. He was very active in the church and with the Marriage Encounters and Cursillo.

He is survived by his wife Helen Pfeiffer of Nebr. City; children: Allan Pfeiffer and wife Marilyn of Waverly, NE; Mary Kay Guhde and husband Larry of Crete, NE; Fr. Mark Pfeiffer of Wallace, NE; and Julie McShannon and husband Scott of Lincoln, NE; six grandchildren: Sally Weiss and husband John of Beatrice, NE, Valerie Cooper and husband David of Waverly, NE, Sandy Egger and husband Nick of Peru, NE, Bradley Pfeiffer and wife Jenny of Wavery, NE, Eric McShannon and wife Casey of Pensacola, FL and Allison Cullinane and husband Michael of Lincoln, NE; 10 great-grandchildren: Hunter, Victoria, Oktober, Brennan, Daniel, Austin, George, Maxine, Esmeralda and Jade; siblings: Robert Pfeiffer and wife Ruth of Nebr. City; Rita Wenzl and husband Walter of Nebr. City; Glen Pfeiffer and wife Shirley of Talmage, NE; Delores Ryan and husband Bob of Bellevue, NE; Esther Barton and husband Edward of Sacremento, CA; Andrew Pfeiffer and wife Alice of Bellevue, NE and Irene Peterson and husband Bob of Davenport, IA; sister in law Rosemarie Pfeiffer of Nebr. City; other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son Daniel Pfeiffer in October of 1977, a sister Frances Pfeiffer and brothers Martin and Leo Pfeiffer.

Funeral Services for Pete Pfeiffer will be held Monday morning (Apr. 27) at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City, NE. Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz will celebrate and Mass and Fr. Mark Pfeiffer will concelebrate along with numerous other priests of the Diocese of Lincoln. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

A rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church followed by the family greeting friends.

Visitation at the mortuary will be on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Lourdes Central Catholic Schools.

Patsy L. Ingrim

Patsy L. Ingrim, age 81 passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City, NE.

Patsy was born icon on October 25, 1927 in Shenandoah, IA; the daughter of Paul L. and Dorothea G. (Visser) Bonwell. She attended school in Shenandoah and graduated with the class of 1945 from the Shenandoah High School.

Patsy worked for the St. Joseph Newspaper in Missouri for 33 years as a printer, retiring in 1988.

She is survived by her children: Mark Ingrim and wife Kathy and Susan Clemens all of St. Joseph, MO; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Charles “Chick” Connell of Nebr. City, NE and sister-in-law Carol Bonwell of Omaha, NE and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by 2 sons: Benny and James; twin sister Lou Connell and brothers Bill and Jim Bonwell.

There will be graveside services held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Rosehill Cemetery in Shenandoah, IA with burial to follow the services. The family will gather at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City, NE at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday for the procession to the cemetery.

Suzanne “Suzie” Hagen

Suzanne “Suzie” Hagen, age 72 of Nebraska City passed away on April 22, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Nebraska City, NE.
Suzie was born icon on November 3, 1936 in Nebr. City, NE; the daughter of David and Myrtle (Moody) Kendall.

She is survived by a son Kevin Hagen of Iowa; dear friends Mike and Karen DeHart of Nebr. City; sister-in-law Esther Kendall of Union, NE; aunt Dorothy Van Dyke of Cedar Falls, IA and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by long-time friend Melvin Hershey and brothers Robert and Roger Kendall.

Funeral Services will be held Monday; April 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City; burial will be in the East Union Cemetery northeast of Union, NE.

The family will greet friends Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.

Janice E. Beckman

Janice E. Beckman, age 68 of Nebraska City passed away on Wednesday evening, April 22, 2009 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City, NE.

Janice was born icon on November 6, 1940 in Marion, IN; the daughter of Clarence and Ruth Counterman. She moved to Nebraska City on June 1, 2006 from Clearwater, FL where she had resided for many years. While living in Florida, Janice was a house cleaner for various families.

She is survived by four children: Debbie Kridler of Nebr. City, NE; Cindy Spencer and husband David of South Haven, MI; Jack Kridler and wife Angie of Nebr. City, NE; Ted Kridler of St. Joseph, MO; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Karen Bell; brothers Don and David and a sister Joann.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City, NE . Burial will be on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City, NE.

The family will greet friends from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the Gude Mortuary

Memorials may be given to Diabetes Fund or the American Cancer Society.
