Lester K. Blankenship

Lester K. Blankenship, age 73 of Nebraska City went to join his son Mike in heaven on December 20, 2009. Les had been living at Duff's Friendship Villa in Nebraska City.

He was born icon on October 14, 1936 to Charley and Irma (Allgood) Blankenship in Auburn, NE. He grew up and attended school in Peru, NE. On Sept. 8, 1957 he was married to Betty L. Weible and to this union three children were born: Cindy, Cathy and Michael.

He is survived by Betty Blankenship of Nebr. City; daughters: Cindy Blankenship of Lincoln, NE and Cathy Blankenship of Nebraska City; grandchildren: Cody of Nebr. City, Sadie of Beaver Lake, Bailey of Nebr. City; daughter-in-law Darla Holliman of Beaver Lake; brothers: Carrol Blankenship of Newton, IA, Leland Blankenship and wife Mary of Auburn, NE, Charles Blankenship of Auburn, NE; sisters-in-law: Joan, Marilyn and Donetta Weible and Katie Chapin all of Nebr. City, Lois and Tony Rodriquez of California; nieces and nephews: Al and Sandy Blankenship, Gary and Marge Blankenship, Bruce and Tammy Blankenship, Deb and Brian Craig, Burt and Cindy Weible, Marvin and Robyn Weible, Bruce and Natalie Weible, Sandy and Scott Ruether, Allen Weible and Claire Esser, Ardell and Andy Simrell, DJ and Gale Chapin, Randy and Mel Chapin, Brenda and Danny Rayhel, Di and Marty Pfeiffer, Terry and Sue Weible, Debbie and Mike Licona, David and Barbara Casey, Dana and Bob Brand, Dee Dee and Ronnie Salgado, Roger and Wanda Blankenship, Butch and Elaine Blankenship, Linda Hury, Tom and Becky Bennett, Randy Bennett, Mary and Lee Lynch, Larry and Rena Blankenship, Geri Kay and Ermal Wilson, Julie and Gary Thompson. Special friends Barb and Don Andrastek of California; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Michael Lynn Blankenship, parents Charley and Irma Blankenship, siblings and spouses: Dela Blankenship, Dale and Virginia Blankenship, Neva and Jerry Weisbrook, Lena and Bill Bennett, Arlene Blankenship and Merril Blankenship. Brothers-in-law: Dean GJ (Bud), Paul and Eugene Weible and Don Chapin.

Lester worked 30 years in the garment manufacturing industry including Debby and Danny Dare, Pendleton's, Nebraska Outerwear and Holden Manufacturing. He worked eight years at Nebr. City Lourdes High School before becoming disabled from a fall in December of 1987.

Lester was a member of the Eagles, Dunbar Presbyterian Church and the Dunbar Vol. Fire Dept. for many years. As one of the original members of the Dunbar Recreation Club, he greatly enjoyed the Haunted Houses they created for many years. He loved horses all of his life. Horse shows were his passion resulting in many trophies and ribbons over the years. He bowled for many years on both men's and mixed leagues and enjoyed much success. He coached and played baseball and softball for 33 years, at one point coaching all three of his children's teams at one time. He was also a great Nebraska Sports Fan. His greatest passions were garage sales, auctions and antique shops-collecting depression glass and numerous other glass patterns. The greatest love in life was his three grandchildren!

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday morning (Dec. 23) at 10:00 a.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Terry Weible officiating. Burial will be in the Wyuka Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Dunbar Vol. Fire Dept. in his memory.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Gude Mortuary.

Maxine V. "Vicky" (Moore) Powers

Maxine V. "Vicky" (Moore) Powers, age 62 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Ambassador in Sidney, IA.

Vicky was born icon on August 4, 1947 in Hamburg, IA; the daughter of Max V. and Gladys (Reynolds) Moore. She attended school in Hamburg and graduated with the class of 1965 where she was named most popular and most beautiful and was the prom queen.

Maxine was united in marriage to Barney Powers on April 3, 1982. He preceded her in death. In addition to being a dedicated wife and mother, Vicky was a cook at Kat's Corner and she sold family portraits for Olin Mills. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish Maxine's memory include her children: Charla Ferguson and significant other David Brown of Watson, MO; Donnie Douglas of Hamburg, IA and Daniel Douglas and wife Janna of Council Bluffs, IA; 10 grandchildren; her mother Gladys (Moore) Walter residing at the Ambassador in Sidney, IA; brothers: Don Moore and wife Marilyn of Winston, CO; Douglas Dale Moore and wife Susan of Maryville, MO; David Moore of Riverton, IA; Joe Moore and wife Susan of St. Joseph, MI; Mike Moore and wife Patty of Macedonia, IA and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney and her father, Max Moore.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA with Pastors Shane Keepes and Donna Woods officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Mt. Zion Cemetery northeast of Hamburg, IA.

The family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home.

Dale E. Seybert

Dale E. Seybert, age 83 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Dale was born icon on January 24, 1926 in Dunbar, NE; the son of Andrew "Andy" and Della (Wright) Seybert, Sr. He attended school and graduated from Otoe High School, Otoe, NE in 1945. Later that year in November, he joined the United States Army. He served his country from November of 1945 to May of 1947. Dale went through basic training at Ft. Hood, TX and later attended Paratrooper School at Ft. Benning, GA.

Dale was united in marriage to Mardell Marie Birkmann on August 25, 1949. She preceded him in death on July 7, 1990. He was later married to Evelyn Bruns on June 26, 1991 in Fayetteville, AR.

He worked as a plasterer for many years. He was a member of the Nebraska City American Legion Post #8; the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Nebraska State Horseshoe Pitchers Association. He was the Nebraska Horseshoe Champion for eight years and was inducted into the Horseshoe Hall of Fame in 1984.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Evelyn Seybert of Nebr. City; children Alan Seybert and wife Angela of Omaha, NE; Mary Boerner and husband Tim of Syracuse, NE; Julie Harding of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Ryan Seybert and wife Lora of Council Bluffs, IA; Emily Maloley and husband Tom of Omaha, NE; Mamie Boerner of Syracuse, NE; Spc. Michael Boerner of Ft. Bragg, NC; Jessica Harding and Jacob Harding both of Omaha, NE; 3 great-grandchildren Eva, Judah and Lilya; siblings Andy Seybert and wife Eula of Lincoln; Ralph Seybert and wife Lois of Willmar, MN; Lois Weibusch of Lincoln, NE and Janis Burbee and husband Dennis of Queen City, AZ and other family and friends.

In addition to his first wife, Dale was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Rev. Roger Bruns officiating. Military services will be conducted at the mortuary conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail. A lunch will be served at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebraska City following all services at the mortuary. Inurnment of cremated remains will be held at a later time at the Grant Cemetery near Talmage, NE.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

The family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening (12/18) at the mortuary.

Kathleen "Kay" Marie (Wenzlaff) Brockhaus

Kathleen "Kay" Marie (Wenzlaff) Brockhaus was born icon March 28, 1935 at Crawford, Nebraska and passed into eternity peacefully to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 14, 2009 at her home in Nebraska City, Nebraska.

She is survived by her husband Jim of Nebr. City, NE; daughter, Julie Valentine and husband Doug; son Ron Brockhaus and wife Shelly all of Bellevue; sister Marianne Zinnecker and husband Bud of Lincoln; brother Bill Wenzlaff and wife Sondra of Wichita, KS; sister-in-law, Cheryl Lenhart and husband Jack of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren Aimee Valentine, Andrew Valentine, Trevor Brockhaus, Connor Brockhaus, and Chloe Brockhaus; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband's parents, and one nephew.

Kay was baptized and confirmed in the Hope Reformed Church in Sutton, NE and was a long time member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebraska City. Kay was married to Jim Brockhaus on September 21, 1957 at Hanau, Germany when Jim was stationed there with the US Army. Together they raised two children. She taught 4th grade, worked as a substitute teacher, and was a library assistant at the Junior High and Hayward Elementary in Nebraska City until her retirement in 1996. She was a longtime member of Opti-Mrs. and the Nebraska City Ladies Golf Association. She also served as coordinator for Christian Women's Friendship Bible Coffees and was a member of the Mary/Martha Circle at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and a Respite board member. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and church quilting. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, friends, Bible studies, card playing, and traveling.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebr. City, NE with Revs. Marsha Anderson and Marty Barnhart officiating; burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening (12/16) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City, NE.

A memorial fund is being established in Kay's Memory.

Beverly A. Robinson

Beverly A. Robinson, age 72 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA.

Beverly Ann Robinson was born icon on March 29, 1937 in Watson, MO; the daughter of George D. and Elsie (Turner) Ellison. She graduated from Watson High School with the class of 1955. Beverly was united in marriage to Buddy Leland Robinson on March 6, 1964 in Nebraska City, NE.

Beverly did clerical work at the ASCS Office in Rock Port, MO for several years until her retirement in 1996. After her retirement, she worked at various job including at Dovel's Locker in Hamburg - a job she truly enjoyed. She was a member of the Watson Methodist Church. She enjoyed mushroom hunting and playing cards, but her greatest love was her family.

Beverly is survived by her four children Savannah Robinson of Lincoln, NE; Marla Robinson, Dean Robinson and wife Lori and Tom Robinson all of Hamburg, IA; six grandchildren: Jacob Watton, Bradley Christiansen, Kristina Christiansen, Marissa Robinson, Danielle Thompson and Rebecca Robinson; five great-grandchildren: Tyler Levy, Soraya Valencia, Mia Valencia, Parker Christiansen and George Neberman III; special friend Shelly Robinson of Tekamah, NE; siblings Iva Case and husband Bob of Hamburg, IA; Ernie Ellison and wife Shirley of Watson, MO and sister-in-law Lois Jean Ellison of Braddyville, IA; other family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Buddy on June 19, 1986; her sister Laura Harmon and husband Bill Jack and brother Bill Ellison.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Rash-Gude Funeral from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Graveside Memorial Services will be held at High Creek Cemetery in Watson, MO at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Elmer N. Voyles

Elmer N. Voyles, age 72 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebr. City, NE.

Elmer was born icon on September 3, 1937 in Avoca, NE on the family farm; the son of Ora O. and Nina B. (Walker) Voyles. He attended school in Avoca and graduated from Avoca High School with the class of 1955. He was united in marriage to Joyce James on January 30, 1960 in Nebraska City, NE.

Elmer worked at American Meter Co. in Nebr. City for 26 ½ years. He then drove trucks for Snodgrass Trucking, he worked at Nebraska City Public Schools and then at the Nebraska City Utilities for 10 years before retiring. He was a member of the Nebraska City Eagles, an Associate Member of the American Legion and a member of Western Star Masonic Lodge #2 of Nebr. City.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Joyce Voyles of Nebr. City, NE; his children Mitch Voyles and special friend Patty Sedoris of Lincoln, NE and Brian Voyles and wife Flora of Nebr. City, NE; one grandchild Rachel Lynn; three brothers Omer Voyles and wife Sharon of Avoca, NE; Dean Voyles and wife Sharon of Omaha, NE and Gean Voyles of Denton, TX and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City, NE; burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City, NE.

There will be open visitation on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 at the mortuary from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.

Memorials may be given to the Church of Christ in Nebr. City, NE.

Donna LaVonne Donnelly

Donna LaVonne Donnelly was born icon on May 18, 1924 in Nebraska City, NE and passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 2, 2009 at Melbourne, FL. Donna was the daughter of Marie (Horstman) and Otto "Pete" Feeken of Crete, NE.

Donna attended elementary schools and Crete High School in Crete, NE, graduating from Crete High School in 1942.

As a child she acquired a love for dancing and performed tap dancing in the Crete local area at many events. Her mother made all of her costumes, which Donna loved. During her Crete High School days she was chosen as the Drum Major to lead the Band. Later in life she also acquired a love for painting and art, making many stain-glass treasures for her family.

In 1942, after graduating, she boarded a train and traveled to Washington D.C. to take a Government secretarial job during World War II. She spent many years in her career at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. Her final position before retirement, was Secretary for the Under Secretary of the Army.

In November 1947, Donna married Frances J. Donnelly of Washington D.C. and they had on son, Patrick. Donna's husband, Frances, was a Senior State Department official and they were afforded many opportunities to travel throughout the world. Donna and her husband attended many patriotic events over the years, including the inaugurations of numerous Presidents and cheering them on at parades down Pennsylvania Avenue.

She is survived by one brother and three sisters: Robert Feeken and wife Joy of Cambridge, NE; Doris Carmen and husband Richard of Lompoc, CA; Jacqueline J. Shuemaker of Melbourne, FL and Marilyn Reiss of Crete, NE and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Francis J. Donnelly and a son Patrick Donnelly in April of 2002.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City, NE with Rev. Rodger Good officiating; burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.

Zella Virginia Edwards

Zella Virginia Edwards, age 94 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Wednesday morning, December 2, 2009 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.

Virginia was born icon on June 2, 1915 in Iberia, MO; the daughter of Charles Melvin and Ella May (Wall) Long. She was united in marriage to William Franklin Edwards on November 23, 1931 in Nebr. City, NE. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1983. Virginia was a housewife and homemaker and she also owned and operated several restaurants including at Sedalia, MO.

Virginia is survived by nieces and nephews including Carol Greene and husband Paul of Nebraska City; Barbara Brown of Nebr. City, NE and Frank Thomas and wife Lois of Elkhorn, NE and other family and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; three brothers: Cecil, Ralph and Harry and two sisters: Geneva and Cleo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City, NE with Rev. Jeff Kelley of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.

Marjorie R. Aistrope

Marjorie R. Aistrope, age 88 of Lamoni, IA (formerly Hamburg, IA) passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Marjorie was born icon on November 18, 1921 in Hamburg, IA; the daughter of Clarence A. and Essie (Bennett) Reed. Her paternal grandparents were Knoble K. and Sarah Mae "Penny" Reed of Sidney, IA and her maternal grandparents were Charles and Cora (Spittler) Bennett of Sidney, IA.

Marjorie attended school in Hamburg and graduated from Hamburg High School with the class of 1939. She was united in marriage to Stanley Aistrope on July 20, 1942 in Tarkio, MO.

Marjorie worked and retired from Interstate Nurseries where she was employed for some 30 years. She also worked at the Hamburg Schools Lunch Program and at Freda's Fabrics. She was a long-time member of the Church of Christ and was very active in the church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking - especially bread that she often shared with others! Her and Stanley were very proud that they had traveled to the 48 states and Canada.

Marjorie is survived by her husband Stanley Aistrope of Lamoni, IA; children: Laurel Chambers and husband Tony of Eagleville, MO; Linda Bianchi and husband Ed of Springtown, TX; seven grandchildren: Jeff Chambers, Joe Chambers, John Chambers, Theresa Brobst, Brian Rippy and wife Leann, Steve Rippy and Jim Rippy; four great-grandchildren: Brandon Brobst, Matthew Rippy, Madison Rippy and Teegan Rippy; a sister Ruth Harrell and husband Bob of Creston, IA; brother-in-law Paul McMullen of Riverton, IA and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Leighton B. Reed of Hamburg; C. Max Reed of Hamburg, IA; Lyall (Shorty) Reed of Hamburg, IA; Keith Reed of Springfield, OR and a sister L. Jean McMullen of Riverton, IA.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA with Steve Sheldon officiating; burial will follow at the Hamburg Cemetery.

The family will greet friends on Sunday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
