Linnea V. Norris
Linnea V. Norris, age 89 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Saturday night; December 4, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Nebraska City, NE. Linnea formerly resided in Springfield, IL before moving to Nebraska City.
She was born
on April 5, 1921 in Crooks, SD; the daughter of Albin and Olga (Nordstrom) Erickson.
She was one of five children in the family.
Linnea was a housewife and homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter Glory L. Holmes of Nebraska City, NE; five grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Norris; two sisters Bertha and Pearl and two brothers Buddy and Alf.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 28, 2010 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City; irnment will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.

Helen I. Jennings
Helen I. Jennings, lovingly known as "Grandma J" age 91 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA.
She was born
on December 22, 1918 at Westboro, MO; the daughter of William W. and Elizabeth M. (Tieman) Hurst.
In April of 1938 she was united in marriage to Dale White at Rock Port, MO. He preceded her in death in 1945. She later married Richard Jennings on October 11, 1948 in Sidney, IA and he also preceded her in death in 1993.
Helen worked at Interstate Nurseries and the Chalet Restaurant both in Hamburg, IA. She loved to make pies and everyone loved to eat them!
She is survived by her children: Nancy Ann Owen and husband Charles of Hamburg, IA; Judy Lea Jennings who resides at the Ambassador in Sidney, IA and Terry Jo Jennings of Hamburg, IA; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister Iva Belle Vaught and husband Charles of Rock Port, MO and other family and friends.
In addition to her husband's, she was preceded in death by an infant sister Wilma; one brother Carl Hurst and two sisters Dessie and Margaret.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 at Mt. Olive Cemetery in rural Hamburg, IA with Rev. Richard Pearson officiating; inurnment will follow the services.
Memorials are suggested to the Hamburg Rescue.

Lavern H. Berg
Lavern H. Berg, age 92 of Nebraska City, formerly Talmage, NE) passed away late Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.
Lavern was born
on March 14, 1918 on a farm in Johnson County, NE (4 ½ miles north of Graf); the daughter of Alye and Anna (Bischoff) Berg. She was one of four children born
to Alye and Anna.
In 1925 when she was seven years old, Lavern moved with her family to a farm south of Talmage. She attended Spring Valley Rural School and graduated from Talmage High School with the class of 1936.
She continued to live on the family farm with her parents, brother and sister during her adult life.
In December of 2003, she entered the Ambassador in Nebraska City where she continued to reside until her death.
She is survived by her sister Leva Berg currently residing at the Ambassdor in Nebraska City and by many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and her brother Lourin in 1988.
Funeral Services will be held at Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Rev. Glatha Rathjen officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Johnson, NE.
Visitation is open from 2:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.
Memorials are suggested to the Talmage Rescue or to the donors favorite charity.

Sadona P. Shefferd
Sadona P. Shefferd, age 76 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on November 17, 2010 at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.
Sadona was born
on October 25, 1934 in Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of Frank and Elsie (Kleinweber) Bassinger. She was united in marriage to Richard M. "Dick" Shefferd on February 25, 1955 in Sidney, IA and to this union three children were born: Richard, Debbie and Bruce.
She worked as a Nurses Aide for many years, including at Duff's Friendship Villa for 18 years, the Nebraska City Manor for 2 years and other nursing homes. She also helped at her husband's store Dick's TV and Appliance in Nebraska City. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She is survived by her husband of over 55 years Dick Shefferd of Nebr. City, NE; her three children: Richard A. Shefferd; Debbie Perry and husband "Bubber" and Bruce W. Shefferd and wife Christine all of Nebr. City, NE; one grandchild Jessica Shefferd; siblings Jim Bassinger and wife Lois of Nebr. City; Lucille Teagarden of Johnson, NE and Irene Williams of Nebr. City, NE and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Arwilda Bennett and Ruby Conrad.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 20) at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City, NE; burial will follow at Camp Creek Cemetery in Rural Nebr. City.
The family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday (11/19) at the mortuary.

Eugene D. "Homer" Tiemeyer
Eugene D. "Homer" Tiemeyer, age 82 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010 at his home
He was born
on November 12, 1928 at rural Hamburg, IA; the only child of Willy Casper and Ada Frances (Jones) Tiemeyer. He attended school and graduated from the Hamburg High School with the class of 1945 at the age of 16.
Homer was a long-time farmer and continued his passion until his health declined. He was a member of the Elks, Percival Community Church and a 25 year member of the Hamburg Volunteer Fire Dept. He served on the Hamburg City Council and the Hamburg School Board.
He was united in marriage to Joan Combe on August 27, 1949 in Des Moines, IA and they shared over 61 years of their lives together.
He is survived by his wife Joan Tiemeyer of Hamburg, IA; children: Michael Paul Tiemeyer of Hamburg, Terry Lee Tiemeyer and wife Elizabeth of Omaha, NE, Sandra Lynn Torgerson and husband Brian of Jackson, MN and Jon Allen Tiemeyer and wife Nancy of Hamburg; 14 grandchildren: Patric, Dusten, Brandon, Timothy, Thomas and Ellen Tiemeyer; Justin and Caleb Driever, Andrew and Zachary Torgerson; Aaron Tiemeyer, Lexie Case, Bob Ladd and Sheila Moore; five great-grandchildren: Brianna, Aby, Chase and Devillian Tiemeyer and Jakob Stoner; brother-in-law Bill Combe and wife Carmen of Costa Mesa, CA and cousin Dorothy Jean Briggs of Hamburg, IA; other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter Janet Marie Tiemeyer and his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 at the Percival Community Church in Percival, IA with the Rev. Blaine Pritchett officiating.
Private family inurnment will be held at the Hamburg Cemetery in Hamburg, IA.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA. There will be no viewing held.

William J. Gangel
William J. Gangel, age 82 of Nebraska City passed away on Friday; November 12, 2010 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.
William (Bill) Joseph Gangel was born
in Omaha, NE to Joseph W. and Jane L. (Wilson) Gangel on leap day, February 29, 1928. The family moved to Nebraska City, NE shortly after his birth where his father operated Gangel Oil & Tire Co. Inc. Bill graduated from St. Bernard‘s Academy in 1946 and soon after enlisted in the US Navy. He spent two years in the Aleutian Islands as an airman. After his discharge, he remained in the naval reserve for nine years. In 1952, Bill earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska Lincoln, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. On May 10, 1952, he married Charlene Rajewich at St. Mary‘s Cathedral in Grand Island, NE. They spent four years in Norfolk, NE where Bill was a salesman for Burroughs Corp. In 1956, they moved to Nebraska City to enter business with Bill‘s father.
Bill was very active in civic affairs. He was Vice-President Junior Chamber of Commerce, President Nebr. City Chamber of Commerce, President of Rotary (Paul Harris fellowship), Board of Directors of Nebr. City Federal Savings & Loan, Knights of Columbus, St. Mary‘s Catholic Church where he was a lector for many years, American Legion Post #8, Elks Lodge #1049 as Exalted Ruler, State President of National Tire Dealers and Retread Dealers Association, Vice President Nebraska Petroleum Jobbers Association. He received many awards from Goodyear Tire Company.
After his retirement in 1993, Bill and Char spent winters in Sun Lakes, AZ and were active in St. Stevens Catholic Church.
Bill enjoyed playing golf in Nebraska City and Sun Lakes. He also loved spending time with his family, especially at their cabin on Lake Wa-Con-Da near Union, NE in the 1980‘s. He was a lifelong Cornhusker fan, attending many games at Memorial Stadium, rain or shine, for many years. He was a sentimental man who loved his country and was always grateful to the men and women who fought for his freedom. Bill will be remembered as a great and truly dedicated friend. His business associates will remember his mentoring and career assistance.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, and brother in law Glen Rajewich. He is survived by his wife Char Gangel of Nebr. City; sons: Michael Gangel and wife Gina of Omaha, NE, Thomas Gangel and wife Rosemary of Wichita, KS; daughters: Jane Slezak and husband Robert of Omaha, NE and Ann Spalti of Omaha, NE; eight grandchildren: Carolyn and Kate Gangel of Wichita, KS and Scott, Anna and Brett Slezak, and Duncan, Ryan and Julianne Spalti all of Omaha; a brother Robert Gangel and wife Marilyn of Columbus, NE; brother-in-law Jerry Rajewich and wife Pam of Lincoln, NE and many other family and dear friends.
Funeral Services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebraska City; burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors conducted by the US Navy Funeral Honors Detail.
Visitation will begin after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and a prayer service will be held Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.
Memorials may be given to Lourdes Endowment Fund or Tabitha Hospice.
Caroline M. "Carol" Fox
Caroline M. "Carol" Fox, Age 72 of Nebraska City passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at her home.
Carol was born
on September 26, 1938 in Omaha, NE; the daughter of William and Ethel Marie (Baker) Ahrens. She was united in marriage to David Elton Fox on December 31, 1961 in Papillion, NE. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1996.
Carol owned and operated the Trading Post and Citizen Printing in Nebr. City along with her late husband David. Prior to moving to Nebr. City in 1969, they owned and operated Citizen Printing in Omaha, NE.
She is survived by her children: Pamela Fox and significant other Gene Wondercheck of Kennard, NE; Teri Fox-McCloskey and husband Rick of Nebr. City, NE; Mark Fox of Nebr. City, NE and Deborah Fox of Nebr. City, NE; two grandchildren Crystal Bennett and husband Lance of Nebr. City, NE and David Hotsenpillar of New York, NY; two great-grandchildren Samuel and Eliza Bennett; one sister Bonnie Keever and husband Bill of Omaha, NE and other family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son David and her grandson Jeremy Hotsenpillar.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City, NE; burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City, NE.
The family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening (11/5) at the mortuary.

Bobby R. "Bob" O'Dell
Bobby R. "Bob" O'Dell, age 69, of Hamburg, IA passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at his home very suddenly and unexpectedly.
Bobby was born
on October 27, 1941 in Neosho, MO; the son of Olen Ray and Edna Marie (Rue) O'Dell. After his high school graduation, he joined the United States Army. He served from June 10, 1959 to June 6, 1960.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Alyce Mount on September 17, 1961 at the Mount home in rural Hamburg, IA and they shared over 49 years of marriage together.
Bobby was a long-time farmer and a member of the Hamburg American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Pat O'Dell of Hamburg, IA; two sisters Wanda Bauer of Lincoln, NE and Delila Bonta of Apache Junction, AZ; sister-in-law Peggy Mount of Hamburg, IA, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Jim O'Dell during the Korean War and Jack O'Dell and a sister Peggy Johnson.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2010 at Mt. Olive Cemetery southeast of Hamburg, IA. Military services will be conducted by the Hamburg American Legion Post and inurnment will follow the services.
Memorials may be given to the Hamburg Rescue in his memory.

Eldon Algood
Eldon Algood, Age 73 of Nebraska City passed away on Saturday; October 23, 2010 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.
Clyde Eldon Allgood was born
on June 10, 1937 in Auburn, NE; the son of Clyde Orville and Ellen Pearl (Applegate) Allgood. He attended school in Peru, NE and graduated from the Peru Prep High School with the class of 1956. He then attended Peru State College.
He was united in marriage to Marilyn Jane "Mary" Tynon on July 23, 1960 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Auburn, NE. He opened Eldon's Cafe in 1961 and owned and operated the café for some eleven years. He later was the manager at the American Legion Post #8 for five years and at the Elks Club for 11 years. Eldon worked at Larson Motors in Nebraska City for 18 years from 1987 until his retirement in 2005.
He is survived by his wife Mary Allgood of Nebr. City; four children: Steven Allgood and wife Imelda of Chicago, IL; Teri Beth Vann and husband Kevin of Omaha, NE; Mark Allgood and wife Nancy of Gretna, NE and Bret Allgood and wife Kathy of Nebr. City; nine grandchildren: Erik, Ethan, Steven, and Ashley Allgood, Sydney Vann, Abigail, Alexa, Luke and Kylie Allgood; siblings: Darrell Allgood and wife Jan, Marty Allgood, Laquita Rubenking and husband Roy, Ron Allgood and wife Candy and Deb Sammons and husband John all of Nebr. City; Pearl Rainforth and husband Dave of Lincoln, NE and Arnie Allgood and wife Kathy of Nacogdoches‘, TX; brothers and sisters in law: Mike and Kathy Tynon and Tim and Helen Pugh all of Peru, NE; Neil and Carol Hayhurst of Arlington, VA, Pat and Deb Tynon of Moran, KS and Rich and Lisa Tynon of Vermillion, KS; special niece Nancy Bartek and her children Will and Cate; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father on May 9, 1969, his mother on May 26, 2007, an infant brother Orville, father and mother-in-law Andrew and Margaret Tynon and brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Bill Tynon and his wife Jeanne.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Michael McCabe celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Peru, NE followed by lunch and fellowship at the VFW Club in Peru.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church followed by a rosary/prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the church.
