Mary Hauptman

Mary Hauptman, age 88 of rural Peru, NE passed away on Thursday; October 14, 2010 in Lincoln, NE.

Mary was born icon on November 23, 1921 in Belfast, Ireland; the daughter of William and Grace (Devine) Crossan. She came to the United States in 1946.

On July 31, 1946, she was united in marriage to Roland James Hauptman, Sr. at Hiawatha, KS.

He preceded her in death on June 15, 1983.

Mary was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a former member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She is survived by her three children: Bill Hauptman of Peru, NE; Maureen Carpenter and husband Dennis of Adams, NE and Kathleen Dawes and husband Dave of Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren: Sarah Lundy, Kevin Carpenter, Erin Beiriger, Nick Dawes and Liz Carpenter; four great-grandchildren: Grace Lundy, Liam Lundy, Lily Dawes and Evan Beiriger; a sister in law Peggy Crossan of London, England and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

In addition to her husband Roland, she was preceded in death by a son Roland Hauptman, Jr on Feb. 11, 1975.; two infant children Patrick and Theresa and siblings: Bill, Jim, Grace, Theresa, Patrick, Tommy, Kathleen, Mable and Ellen.

Funeral Services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. (October 18, 2010) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebr. City. Fr. Michael McCabe will officiate at the services and burial will follow in the Camp Creek Cemetery southeast of Nebr. City.

A rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary led by Fr. Matthew Rolling.

Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Bernard's Catholic Church or Camp Creek Cemetery Assn.

Robert G. Smallfoot

Robert G. Smallfoot, Age 83 of rural Nebraska City passed away on Monday evening; October 11, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, NE.

Robert Gene Smallfoot was born icon on March 22, 1927 in Otoe County, NE; the son of George Frederick and Carrie Myrtle (Haupt) Smallfoot. He attended school and graduated from the Dunbar High School with the class of 1944. He then attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for a short time before entering the US Navy on March 16, 1945. After his discharge from service on July 10, 1946, he continued his education at Peru State College.

He was united in marriage to Marjorie A. Kreifels at the Lutheran Church in Otoe, NE on March 28, 1948 and to this union three sons were born: Robert, Dan and Steve.

Bob farmed in Wyoming Precinct of Otoe County his entire life. He was a diligent steward of the farms God entrusted to him. He loved softball and bowling. He was quietly proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Dunbar Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Post #8 and the V.F.W.

Bob is survived by his sons: Bob Smallfoot and wife Phyllis of Seward, NE; Dan Smallfoot and wife Robin of Nebr. City, NE and Steven Smallfoot and wife Delena of Auburn, NE; eight grandchildren: Ryan Smallfoot, Michelle Schuetz, Robert Smallfoot, Kyle Smallfoot, Jill Collins, Elizabeth Hestermann, Aaron Smallfoot and Rebecca Smallfoot and twenty great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Smallfoot on February 21, 1998, his parents, a sister Bonnie Teel and brother-in-law Keith Kreifels.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Dunbar Presbyterian Church in Dunbar, NE with Pastor Penny Schulz officiating; burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City, NE with complete military services conducted by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Detail..

The family will greet friends Thursday evening (10/14) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gude Mortuary, Nebraska City, NE.

Memorials may be given to the Dunbar Presbyterian Church or the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, NE.

Mrs. Jeanette Bradley

Mrs. Jeanette Bradley, 76, of Maryville, MO., was called home to God and her beloved husband Arnold on October 7th, 2010.

Mrs. Bradley was born icon on October 17, 1933 in Red Oak, Iowa; she was the last surviving child of William Reilly and Gladys Rogers. She moved at a young age with her family to Hamburg IA where she spent many idyllic years as a child and young adult.

Mrs. Bradley graduated from Hamburg High School and the Capitol Beauty School in Omaha, NE . She worked for a short time as a beautician at Brandeis in Omaha, NE before realizing her dream as a homemaker when she married the love of her life Arnold L. Bradley in May of 1956. She was a devoted wife and loving stay-at-home mom to six children.

Mrs. Bradley loved cheering and hand wringing at wrestling matches, attending band performances, celebrating birthdays, playing card games and any other activity involving her children or grandchildren. She spent much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold L Bradley, her parents, her brother David Rogers, and sisters Gloria Harrell and Cleo Sue Martin.

Mrs. Bradley's family was her pride, her joy and her life. She is survived by her children Michael (Becky) Bradley of Des Moines, IA, Linda Metty of Aylett, VA, Jeffrey (Holly)Bradley of Waterloo, IA, Deborah (David) DiNenna of Ft. Meade, MD, James (Heddy) Bradley of Kansas City MO and John (Cindy Poindexter) Bradley of Kansas City MO and eight grandchildren, Steven, KayeLani, and Jennifer Bradley, from Des Moines, IA, Katelin Hemmingsen of Ft. Meade, MD, Caleb Bradley of Kansas City, MO, Jacob and Morgan Bradley of Waterloo, IA and Ian Bradley of Kansas City MO.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Kansas City for their kindness, patience and care to Mrs. Bradley. The family also wishes to thank the Gagne family of Kansas City for their generosity and kindness during this difficult time and Charles and Mary Breedlove for the care they took as Jeanette's neighbors in Maryville all of these years.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. at Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, Iowa on Sunday evening (10/10/2010).

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Baptist Church in Hamburg, IA with Pastor Tom Beutler officiating; burial will follow the services in the Hamburg Cemetery.

Lula Virginia Gray

Lula Virginia Gray, age 94 of Tabor, IA; formerly of Hamburg, IA passed away on Thursday morning October 7, 2010 at the Tabor Manor in Tabor, IA.

Lula was born icon on February 19, 1916 in Hamburg, IA; one of seven children born icon to John Kemper and Effie (Byrd) Cleek.

She was united in marriage to George F. Gray in 1932 at Nebraska City, NE. He preceded her in death in May of 1947.

Lula was a housewife and homemaker. She also cleaned homes for various people in the Hamburg area.

She is survived by her two daughters: Lois White of Waco, TX and Pat Simpson and husband Tator of Riverton, IA; eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her late husband George, she was preceded in death by daughters Joann Harill in 1989, Marjorie Perry in 2003, sons-in-law Gary White in 2002 and Donald Perry in 1995; a great-grandson Clint Spidell and four brothers and two sisters including Janie, Mabel, Henry, Howard, Cecil and Dick.

Graveside services will be held Saturday (Oct. 9) at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Olive Cemetery southeast of Hamburg, IA. Pastor Tom Beutler will officiate at the services and burial will follow.

Memorials may be given to the Tabor Manor in Lula's memory.

Visitation is open from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Shane Robert Smith

Shane Robert Smith, age 33, of Omaha, NE; formerly of Nebraska City passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2010 in Omaha, NE.

Shane was born icon on March 2, 1977 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Charles Robert and Patricia Mae (Bedford) Smith.

He attended school in Nebraska City and worked in various occupations including roofing. He also traveled with the carnival and worked for them at the many places that they provided entertainment.

Shane is survived by his parents Charles and Patty Smith of Nebraska City, NE; a son Bryce Draeger of Dunbar, NE; siblings: Bradley S. Smith of Omaha, NE; Patrick J. Smith of Mt. Pleasant, IA; Charla L. Housh of Madison, KS; maternal grandmother Nell Bedford of Indianapolis, IN; five nieces and nephews: Rebecca Housh, Wyatt Hysom, Brandon Smith, Alexis Smith and Samantha Smith; numerous aunts and uncles and other family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday; Oct. 7, 2010 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City, NE.

Memorials are suggested to the D.A.R.E. program.

Judy E. Marion

Judy E. Marion, age 66 of Nebraska City passed away at her home on Friday; October 1, 2010 very suddenly.

She was born icon on July 31, 1944 in Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of Lester Leon and Ruth Lenore (Bird) Eloge. She attended school in Nebraska City.

Judy was united in marriage to James Phillip Marion on November 30, 1960 in Lincoln, NE and they shared nearly 50 years of their lives together.

She worked at the Norwest Financial Loan Company for many years in Joplin, MO processing loan applications. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband Phil Marion of Nebr. City, NE; her daughter Kim Johnson of Nebraska City; three grandchildren: Aaron and Alex Johnson and Courtney Marion; four sisters: Jackie Tanner of Talmage, NE, Jill Christiansen of Percival, IA, Jayne Swearengin of Nebr. City, and Julie West of Talmage, NE; a brother Rick Eloge of Hot Springs, AR; other family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her son Lance Marion on Feb. 11, 2005, son-in-law Mark Johnson on May 2, 1998 and her parents.

Graveside memorial services will be held Wednesday (Oct. 6) at 10:30 a.m. at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City; inurnment will follow the services. Honorary pallbearers will be her three grandchildren: Aaron and Alex Johnson and Courtney Marion.

No visitation or viewing is scheduled but those unable to attend the services may stop at the mortuary any time to sign the memorial book.

Betty Whitehead

Betty Whitehead, age 62, of Riverton, IA passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA.

Betty was born icon on January 26, 1948 in Hamburg, IA; the daughter of Glenn E. and Margaret L. (Young) Randolph. She graduated from Farragut High School with the class of 1966 and then attended Business College in Omaha, NE.

Betty was united in marriage to Glenn R. Whitehead on April 23, 1967 at the United Methodist Church in Riverton, IA and they shared over 43 years of their lives together.

Betty had worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebr. City, NE; Farmers Bank in Nebr. City and the bank in Riverton, IA. Most recently, she worked in the Fremont County Auditor's Office at Sidney, IA. She worked there for 22 years before retiring in December of 2008 as Deputy Auditor.

Betty was a loving wife and mother. She had a deep love for her grandchildren and enjoyed being with them and attending their many activities and events. She was a member of the Riverton United Methodist Church and the Women's Guild; the American Legion Auxiliary, Gold Wing Road Riders Assn. (GWRRA), Boot Scooters Dance Group and the Sidney Monday Club. She loved to shop with her friends and was an avid cook.

She is survived by her husband Glenn Whitehead of Riverton, IA; children Troy Whitehead and wife Monica and Terry Whitehead and wife Terri all of Riverton, IA; five grandchildren: Daniel Whitehead, Jed Whitehead, Triston Miller, Cameron Whitehead and Grant Whitehead; brother Wayne "Stormy" Randolph and wife Kay of Harlan, IA and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father on August 17, 1994 and her mother on April 26, 2004.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Riverton, IA with Rev. Jaye Johnson officiating; burial will follow at the Riverton Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday (10/3) at the Shull-Gude Funeral Home in Riverton, IA.

Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church of Riverton or the Riverton Fire/Rescue Dept.

Albert H. Sievers

Albert H. Sievers, age 81 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.

Albert was born icon on August 21, 1929 in Grand Island, NE; the son of Julius and Bertha (Wagnor) Sievers. He graduated from Grand Island High School and then took classes at Milford Tech in Milford, NE.

Albert joined the United States Air Force on November 12, 1948 and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on September 11, 1952 after 3 years, 9 months and 29 days of service.

Albert had previously lived in Compton, CA where he worked as a machinist in a manufacturing company. He moved to Nebraska City some ten years ago from California.

He is survived by his siblings Dorothy Gamble of Seattle, WA; Esther Skinner of Grand Island, NE; Alice O'Neill and husband Dan of Nebr. City, NE and Elsie Roush of Nebr. City, NE and other family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at St. Benedict's Cemetery in Nebr. City, NE with Fr. Matthew Rolling officiating. Complete military services will be conducted by the United States Air Force Funeral Honors Detail. Inurnment will follow the services.

Susan D. Lee

Susan D. Lee, age 47 of Nebraska City, NE; formerly of Crawford, NE passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Duff's Friendship Villa in Nebr. City.

Susan was born icon on May 7, 1963 in Omaha, NE; the daughter of Deleon Richard Lee and Joyce Saldavar. She attended school in Nebraska City and graduated from the Nebraska City High School with the class of 1981.

She is survived by her father and step-mother Deleon and Carolyn Lee of Goodman, MO; siblings Mindy Lee of Goodman, MO; Brenda James of Grove, OK and Monty Lee of Lee's Summit, MO and other family and friends.

No services are planned at this time.
