Gordon J. Howell

Age 79, of Hamburg, IA passed away on Monday morning, Feb. 7, 2011 at BryanLGH West Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

Gordon was born icon on March 22, 1931 in Lincoln, NE; the son of Herbert and Helen Della (Mattice) Howell. He joined the United States Army in 1952 and served in the 7th Heavy Tank Division during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He was united in marriage to Dana Arlene Knackstedt on April 5, 1954 in Rock Port, MO.

He worked 38 years for Abel Enterprises, including Concrete Industries. He was a life member of the V.F.W.

He is survived by his six children: Curtis A. Howell and wife Sue; Dana C. Cleary and husband Jerry; Twila G. Schwalbe; Timothy J. Howell and wife JoAnna and Tracy R. Daniel all of Lincoln, NE and Stanley R. Howell and wife Lavern of San Diego, CA; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; siblings: Betty Spidell of Nebr. City, NE; Sandra Kay Peters and husband R.C. of Cloverdale, IN; Glenda Kempkes and husband William of Crete, NE and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Arlene Howell on May 12, 2008; a son Patrick B. Howell on Feb. 3, 2000 and two brothers: Roy Howell and Herbert Howell, Jr.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg. Burial will follow at Linden Cemetery near Rock Port, MO with complete Military Honors.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday (2/10) evening at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Viola C. Peterson

Age 89 of Nebraska City passed away on Thursday (Feb. 3, 2011) at Duff's Friendship Villa in Nebraska City.

Viola was born icon on January 15, 1922 in the family farm home southeast of Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of John and Julia Katherine (Gress) Schnitzer. She was united in marriage to Robert Paul Peterson on February 20, 1957 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Nebr. City.

Viola worked at various stores in Nebraska City over the years, including Woolworths, Rowe Clothing and John Brown's Gift Shop. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.

She is survived by sisters-in-law: Pauline Peterson and Ruth Peterson both of Nebr. City; brother-in-law Melvin Peterson and wife Marjorie of Nebr. City; 8 nieces, 2 nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers Alvin, Carl and John Schnitzer; nephew Allen Schnitzer and brothers-in-law Kenneth and Dwight Peterson.

Funeral Services for Viola Peterson will be held Monday (Feb. 7) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebraska City with Fr. Michael McCabe celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the Wyuka Cemetery at Nebraska City, NE.

A rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary followed by the family greeting friends.

Daniel David Teten

Daniel David Teten, ‘Uncle Dently', 44, died February 2, 2011 at his home on the family farm near Otoe.

He was born icon March 13, 1966, in Nebraska City, NE, to David and Maryanne (Stier) Teten.

He attended Nebraska City High School graduating with the class of 1984. He continued his education at Southeast Community College, Milford Campus, where he graduated in 1986 with a degree in Auto Collision Technology, A.A.S.

He worked in the Auto Body field for over 25 years. His career took him to Auto Body shops in Craig and Longmont, CO; as well as Bellevue and Omaha, NE. Once he mastered the Auto Body field, he was determined to continue his education and learned the skill of Paintless Dent Removal (PDR). He started his own Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) business in 1999, first known as "Bring It On" and most recently known as "All Tapped Out". He was sought after by many dealerships across the Midwest for his skill. He was considered in the industry as "one of the best".

He was a "free spirited" person who enjoyed his family, loved the simple life and living on the farm. His world revolved around his love for animals: Motley, Rollin, Shooter and 50 Cents. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and riding his ‘Harley'. His gentle smile, generosity and humble personality will be deeply missed. He lived his life the way he wanted - with no regrets.

He is survived by his parents David and Maryanne Teten of Nebraska City; Sisters Michelle Richardson and husband Scott of Tabor, IA and Melissa Bertelsen and husband Mark of Papillion, NE; brother Derek Teten of Lincoln, NE; several nephews including Tyler, Blake and Noah Richardson; Matthew and Christian Bertelsen; and niece Chloe Bertelsen. He is also survived by Sandra (Fifi) Weideman of Lincoln, NE.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Henry and Marian Stier and paternal grandparents, Arnold ‘Friday' and Esther Teten.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2011 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebr. City with Rev. Lynn Parsons officiating.

The family will greet friends on Sunday (Feb. 6) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler, Blake and Noah Richardson and Matthew, Chloe and Christian Bertelsen.

A memorial fund is being established in Dan's memory.

Alvin F. Roos

Age 95, of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Nebr. City.

Alvin was born icon on November 18, 1915 on the family farm south of Dunbar, NE; the son of John F. and Caroline (Latter) Roos. He was baptized and confirmed in McWilliams Church near Lorton, NE. He was united in marriage to Rita Heuser on February 25, 1940 at the Heuser home Southwest of Nebr. City.

Alvin was a truck driver for many years with Nelson Brothers and also worked for Consolidated Blenders for 20 years. He was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ in Nebraska City and a lifetime member of both the Eagles and the Elks.

He is survived by his wife Rita Roos of Nebr. City, NE; 2 children: Larry A. Roos and wife Sheri of Loveland, CO and Barbara K. Roos of Lawrence, KS; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ernest, Herman, Elmer and Vernon and sister Vera Stubbendick.

Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2011 at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City, NE with Rev. Rodger Good of the Bethel United Church of Christ officiating. Inurnment will be at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.

Memorials are suggested to the Bethel United Church of Christ in Nebraska City.

Stephen J. Hinze

Stephen J. Hinze, age 58, of Hamburg, IA passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at his home.

Stephen was born icon on June 3, 1952 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Gene M. and Doloris E. (Paben) Hinze. He attended school in Hamburg and graduated from Hamburg High School with the Class of 1970.

Gene farmed with his father, Gene, for many years.

He is survived by his mother, Doloris Hinze of Hamburg, IA; two sisters: Sandra Christensen and dear friend William Himebaugh of Panama; Elizabeth Siegling and husband Robert of Mesa, AZ; nephews, nieces, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gene on October 27, 2008.

Memorial Graveside Services will be held in March at Hamburg Cemetery.

Norma Jean Aufenkamp

Age 87, of Anaheim, CA passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at her home.

Norma Jean was born icon on September 9, 1923 at rural Julian, NE; the daughter of Steven A. and Veva P. (Campbell) Douglas. She attended school in Julian and graduated from Julian High School with the Class of 1940.

Norma Jean was united in marriage to Lloyd J. Aufenkamp on April 7, 1941 in Rock Port, MO. They lived in Julian and Nebraska City before moving to California in 1961. She worked as a Supervisor in the Accounts Payable Dept. in California for various businesses including California Wholesale Electric Co. She was a member of the United Brethren Methodist Church.

The main focus of her life was her family. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She was a warm, caring and sensitive person, who always put the needs and happiness of others first.

She is survived by her daughters: Roberta Rae Klein and husband Joe of Placentia, CA and Verna Kay Aufenkamp of Anaheim, CA ; 2 grandchildren: Troy Aufenkamp and Joe Klein, Jr.; 2 great-grandchildren: Brooke Jean Aufenkamp and Mackenzie Skye Aufenkamp; sisters-in-law: Maxine Remmers of Auburn, NE; Dorothy Aufenkamp of Julian, NE and LaVonda Abernathy and husband Bill of Nebraska City, NE; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Aufenkamp on January 4, 1988; a son Lloyd John Aufenkamp, Jr. on August 22, 2007 and a brother John "Jack" Douglas.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Rev. Jeff Kelley officiating. Burial will follow the services at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.

The casket will remain closed.

Florence J. Miller

Florence J. Miller, age 85 of Lincoln, NE passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

She was born icon Florence Josephine Kreifels on July 4, 1925 at rural Nebraska City in the family farm home; the oldest daughter of Vincent John and Marie V. (Christen) Kreifels. She attended country school and then high school in Nebraska City. She graduated from the Nebraska City High School with the class of 1942.

She also attended Peru State College, Peru, NE.

She was united in marriage to Howard H. Miller on June 17, 1947 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at rural Nebraska City.

Florence taught school for several years at the Maple Grove Country School and at the Dunbar, NE school. She also taught music lessons to numerous children. The family moved to Lincoln, NE from Dunbar, NE in 1968 and Florence started working at K-Mart. She worked there several years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Denton, NE.

She is survived by her children James Miller of Lincoln, NE; Donna Miller of York, NE and John Miller of Lincoln, NE; siblings: David Kreifels, Anna Marie White and husband Paul, Esther Wyant and Bernard Kreifels all of rural Nebr. City, NE.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard in April of 1986.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Rural Nebr. City with Monsignor Mark Huber and Fr. Thomas Bush officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church prior to the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m.

Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Denton, NE.

Norma J. Aufenkamp

Norma J. Aufenkamp of Anaheim, CA, passed away on March 20, 2011 at her home in Anaheim, CA.

Services are pending.

Jack Carl Ziolkowski

Age 70, of rural Rock Port, MO passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Univ. of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Jack was born icon on April 10, 1940 in St. Joseph, MO; the son of Casmir F. and Helen M. (White) Ziolkowski. He attended school in St. Joseph, MO at Benton High School and then attended carpenter trade school.

He joined the United States Army in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1960. He was united in marriage to Brenda Kathern Garst on July 3, 1960 in Albany, MO. They moved to Hamburg, IA in 1966 and were blessed with five children.

Jack worked at MBP until it closed and then had his own construction and carpentry business. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union and the Hamburg Fire and Rescue. He helped in the construction of Cooper Nuclear Plant in Brownville, NE. In 1993 they moved to the country where he enjoyed raising cattle and pigs. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. His greatest enjoyment came from getting together for family times with his children and grandchildren. He also loved trap shooting with the family, going on family trips and rocking the great grandkids.

Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda Ziolkowski of rural Rock Port, MO; daughter Kathy Esser and husband Dick of Watson, MO and their children Chance and Shae and her daughter Cory; daughter Lynette Holmes and husband Willie of Watson, MO and their children Travis and his son Brock, Tyler and Tanner; son Jack Ziolkowski of Hamburg, IA and his children Levi and wife Tori, Heather and her sons Kegen and Ely, Jake and Jerry; daughter Melissa Smith of Thurman, IA and her children Kyla, Kristin, Kyle and Kody; daughter Amanda Driever and husband Alan of Sidney, IA and their children Seth & wife Tasia and their son Zaine, Jarrod, Shelbie, Justin and Caleb; sister Donna Rich of Rosendale, MO and brother Gary Lee Ziolkowski and wife Kathy of St. Joseph, MO; numerous nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jerry and a granddaughter Ashley.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA with Rev. Tom Beutler officiating. Burial will follow at High Creek Cemetery in Watson, MO.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening (3/23) at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Hamburg Fire/Rescue Dept. or Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA.

Marvin A. Reick

Age 70, of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Duff's Friendship Villa in Nebraska City, NE.

Marvin was born icon on June 27, 1940 in Omaha, NE; the son of Arthur R. and Irma (Bleick) Reick. He attended school in Union, NE.

He was a member and served in the Nebraska National Guard.

Marvin worked for the Otoe County Roads Department as a maintainer operator for 30 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially viewing the wildlife around the lake on his acreage.

He is survived by his mother Irma Reick of Nebraska City and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Reick, in 1994.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2011 at Cowles Cemetery in Rural Nebr. City, NE. Words of comfort will be offered by Benjamin Rice - a friend of the family. Military Honors will be conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.

There will be visitation on Sunday, March 20, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.

Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society or Duff's Friendship Villa in Nebr. City.
