Don Michel

Age 74 of rural Northboro, IA passed away on Friday morning; September 9, 2011 at the Bellevue Medical Center in Bellevue, NE.

He was born icon Harry Donovan Michel on October 5, 1936 in Shenandoah, IA; the son of Harry Edwin and Nora Hazel (Griffin) Michel. He attended country school and later the Farragut High School, Farragut, IA where he graduated with the class of 1954.

Shortly after his graduation, he was united in marriage to Karen Kay Wells on July 3, 1954 at the United Methodist Church in Farragut.

Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a life-long farmer who never really retired! He was involved in various organizations during his younger years and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at rural Northboro where he took care of the church cemetery for many years.

He is survived by his wife Karen of Northboro; children: Diane Foster and husband Ed of Riverton, IA, Mike Michel and wife Deb and Sonia Athen and husband Bob all of Northboro; ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sisters: Yvonne Meskimen of Cave City, AR, Patricia Hall of Des Moines, IA, Sharon Gilbert and husband John of Northboro, Gwen Markut and husband Ray of Shenandoah, IA and Gayle Moody and husband Gary of Northboro; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.

He was preceded in death and welcomed home by his son Brent Michel, a granddaughter Brooke Michel and grandson Derek Athen.

The family will greet friends on Monday (Sept. 12) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Michel home; 3944 310th St., Northboro, IA.

A private family service will be held later in the week at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, rural Northboro with Rev. Steve Hetzel officiating.

A memorial fund is being established by the family in lieu of flowers.

Age 79 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Thursday at Duff's Friendship Villa in Nebraska City, NE.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday; November 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA with Rev. John Duling officiating. Burial will follow in the Hamburg Cemetery, Hamburg, IA.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday; November 21, 2011 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.

Mary Kathryn Zuck

Age 90, of Hamburg, IA passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Ambassador in Sidney, IA.

She was born icon on September 6, 1921 in Hamburg, IA; the daughter of Charles Franklin and Maude Anna (Gude) Henderson. She attended school and graduated from the Hamburg High School with the class of 1940. She was the first Homecoming Queen at Hamburg High School.

She was united in marriage to James Francis Zuck, Sr. on July 22, 1942 at St. Mary's Catholic Church rectory in Hamburg, IA and to this union four children were born.

She was a housewife and homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamburg.

She is survived by her husband of over 69 years James Francis Zuck, Sr.; children: Gloria J. Weber and significant other Karl Hobbie of Shenandoah, IA; James Francis Zuck, Jr. and wife Diane of Hamburg, IA; Judy C. Becker and husband Louie of Hamburg, IA and Dianna R. Hall and husband John of rural Rock Port, MO; 13 grandchildren: Jeffrey F. Dankof and wife Karen, Patrick D. Dankof and wife Sarah, Leslie Gillespie and husband Jason, Kimberly Brachtel and husband Matt, Mark Zuck and wife Amy, Julie O'Barsky and husband Chuck, Cindie Gaines and husband Seth, Gregg Bashaw and significant other Mindy, Mindy Hall, Shannon Snyder and wife Alise, Mike Becker and wife Mollie, Nikki Albert and husband Jack and Jodi Wiles and husband Corey; 27 great-grandchildren: Tara, Dillon Noah, and Mollie Dankof, Kaleb, Conner, and Colton Gillespie, Carson, Katelyn, Cameron and Courtney Brachtel, Jacob, Jaxon and Jude Zuck, Chase O'Barsky and Yenny, Paige O'Barsky, Ciara Armstrong, Shelbie and Kelcie Gaines, Heidi, Hallie and Zeb Hall, Meredith Albert, Zachary and Maya Wiles and Merric and McCain Becker; two great-great grandchildren: Alyssa and Jayla O‘Barsky; sisters: Josephine Zanker of Shenandoah, IA and Rosalie Holman and husband Richard of Lincoln, NE; other family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Patricia Neeley and brothers Lawrence and Charles Henderson.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamburg, IA. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Rural Hamburg.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to the Hamburg Rescue or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamburg, IA.

Ricarda V. "Ricki" Borrego

Age 90, of Hamburg, IA (formerly Nash, TX) passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Duff's Friendship Villa in Nebraska City, NE.

She was born icon on October 11, 1921 in Manor, TX; the daughter of Augustine and Dolores (Iruegas) Ramierez. She was united in marriage to Tomas Borrego on February 14, 1942 in Elgin, TX. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2009.

Ricki worked for many years at the former Interstate Nurseries in Hamburg, IA. She was a loving housewife and homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children: Tom Borrego, Jr. and wife Nelda of Shubert, NE, Raul Borrego and wife Sandra of Nebr. City, NE, Augustine Borrego of Hamburg, IA, Richard Borrego and wife Karen of Nebr. City, NE, Gloria Howell of Cook, NE, Mary Hansen and husband Keith of Hamburg, IA and Alicia Howard and husband John of Ventura, CA; 19 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren; Sisters: Rebecca Alderte of Holland, TX and Rosenda Garcia of Victoria, TX; brothers: Raymond Ramierez of Sedalia, MO and Roy Ramierez of Oklahoma City, OK; life-long friend Elsie Foster of Hamburg, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Roy Borrego, brothers Ramiero, Rosendo, Rudy and Adam, a sister Rachel and a half-sister Mary.

Funeral Services will be held graveside on Thursday (Nov. 10) at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Hamburg, IA. Burial will follow the services. The family will gather at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday prior to the procession to the cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.

Paul A. Bashaw

Age 66, of Hamburg, IA passed away on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 at his home in Hamburg.

Paul was born icon on January 23, 1945 in Clarinda, IA; the son of Edward and Dorothy (Wilson) Bashaw.

He worked most of his life as a truck driver; most recently for Conagra Foods. He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees. Mickey Mantle and Derek Jeter were two of his favorite players. He liked Nascar and going to races at the Eagle Raceway. He was fond of Pepsi, tomato joice, popcorn, pepperoni pizza and tootsie rolls. He was always up for a game of cribbage or shuffle board, or a trip to the casinos.

Paul is survived by his children Julie O'Barsky and husband Chuck of Hamburg, IA; Cindie Gaines and husband Seth of Watson, MO and Greg Bashaw and significant other Mindy Ptacek of Kent, OH; five grandchildren: Chase O'Barsky and girlfriend Yenny Andrade, Paige O'Barsky, Ciara Armstrong, Shelbie Gaines, Kelcie Gaines and Aiden Ray; two great-grandchildren: Alyssa O'Barsky and Jayla O'Barsky; three sisters: Gloria Mattice and husband Chester of Hamburg, IA; Janet Sue Carlock of Lakeview, FL and Eileen Thompson and husband Hank of Hamburg, IA and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 7, 2011 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in rural Hamburg.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Hamburg Rescue.

Darrell D. Perry

Age 76, of Hamburg, IA passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg.

Darrell was born icon on June 2, 1935 in Watson, MO; the son of Wayne and Sara (Oslin) Perry. He married Mary Lourisa Snyder on January 9, 1998 in Kansas City, MO. He served his country in the United States Army. He entered service on October 29, 1954 and was honorably discharged on October 28, 1957.

Darrell worked on heavy construction for various companies for 47 years. He was a member of the Hamburg American Legion and the Eagles Aerie #968.

Darrell is survived by his wife Mary Lou Perry of Hamburg, IA: daughter Becky Perry of Louisville, KY; step-sons: Brian "Barney" Snyder of Hamburg, IA and Timothy Lee Snyder of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren: Summer Perry, Roxanna Snyder, Brian Snyder, Ethan Snyder and Brennan Snyder; brother Jimmy Dean Perry of Tucson, AZ and mother-in-law Ruby W. Snyder of Hamburg, IA; other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Ricky Perry in 2010 and two brothers: Carroll Perry and Donald Perry.

Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Rural Hamburg, IA with complete Military Services conducted by the Hamburg American Legion Post #156.

Memorials may be given to the Hamburg Fire and Rescue or Grape Community Hospital Foundation.

Robert L. Reed

Age 90, of Hamburg, IA passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA.

Robert was born icon in Custer County on a farm near Arnold, NE to Francis Oscar and Julia Lavetta (Huff) Reed on July 20, 1921. He attended elementary school at Oxford District 13 and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1939. He worked as a farm hand and in 1941 enrolled in a school of aeronautics at Wichita, KS. In July 1942, he was inducted into the United States Army Air Force. A heart condition disqualified him for flight training. He became an aircraft and engine mechanic. He received his basic and aircraft maintenance training at Sheppard Field, TX and continued with advanced training at Wright Patterson in New Jersey and at Mobile, Alabama.

Robert served overseas with The Seventh Air Depot Group at various locations in England and France and later in Germany attached to Patton's Third Army. At war's end while awaiting separation and transportation back to the States, by correspondence he studied radio and carpentry. He received his Army discharge in December at Leavenworth, KS and just made it home for Christmas.

He found employment as a carpenter and mason, which he worked at until he had collected enough experience and college hours to qualify him as an instructor at Mid Plains Community College Vo. Tech Division at North Platte in 1973. He held this position until retiring in 1986, but continued to teach night classes and other assignments until 1993.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter Deborah; a sister Dorothy and her husband Frank; older brother Walter (a casualty of war) and a younger brother Rodney of Eugene, OR; brothers-in-law: Weldon Swick and Virgil Woodward.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Reed of Hamburg, IA; daughter Dr. Elizabeth Reed and husband Ellis Makos and their daughter Olivia of Omaha, NE; daughter Janet Lechner and husband James and their twin sons Jeffrey and Reed of Hamburg, IA; three sisters: Betty Swick of Salem, OR; Marian Woodward of Jefferson City, MO and Gweneth Den Dooven of Denver, CO and other family and friends.

Robert was a sixty year member of the American Legion. He served 17 years as a Broken Bow volunteer fireman and eleven years on the governing board of a Presbyterian Church.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening, November 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE with the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Detail conducting military honors.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2011 at the United Trinity Church in Hamburg, IA with Pastor Daniel Voigt officiating.

Michael R. Reed

Age 64 of Nebraska City passed away on Friday; October 28, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

He was born icon on December 15, 1946 in New York City; the son of Carl and Katherine (Catranides) Reed.

His parents preceded him in death.

He married Jackie L. Barnes and they had two children who survive him: Robert Reed and wife Kim of Sidney, IA and Jennifer McAllister and husband Jeremy of Farragut, IA. On April 19, 1976 he married Dorothy Moyer who survives him. This marriage gave him three additional surviving children: Diane Maguire and husband Jake of Mart, TX, Matthew Reed and wife Alissa of Nebr. City and Nicholas Reed and wife Allison of Nebr. City. Michael is also survived by 11 grandchildren and sisters and brother: Barbara Bond of Sidney, IA, John Reed of Ralston, NE, Mary Gillespie and husband Larry of Sidney, IA and Carol Jones of Omaha, NE; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Timothy Michael Reed on July 18, 1974.

Michael was a life long trucker and diesel mechanic. Most recently, he worked for Kreifels Conservation in Nebr. City. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie #968 in Nebr. City. His favorite past-times were antique tractors and NASCAR.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday (Nov. 2) at 1:30 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City; burial will follow in the Sidney Cemetery at Sidney, IA.

The family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.

Memorials may be given to the family in Michael's memory.

Ella Mae "Ellie" Cooksey

Age 83 of Nebraska City passed away on Wednesday; October 19, 2011 at Duff's Friendship Villa in Nebraska City.

She is survived by her "adopted" children: Deani L. Scroggins and husband David of Nebr. City; Diana L. Davis and husband Kelly of Rock Port, MO, Duane W. Radke and wife Lori of Nebr. City and David E. Radke and wife Katie of Nebr. City; best friend Betty Hurst and husband Glen of Talmage, NE; numerous siblings, other family and friends.

Funeral Services for Ellie Cooksey will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City; burial will be in the Benton Cemetery near Mound City, MO.

Visitation is open after 2:00 p.m. Friday at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.

Louise M. Ullsperger

Age 84, of Nebraska City, NE passed away Tuesday evening, October 18, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, NE.

Louise was born icon on October 24, 1926 in the family home in rural Otoe County, NE; the daughter of Andrew and Hedwig (Schnell) Henner. She attended school and graduated from St. Bernard's Academy in Nebraska City with the Class of 1943. She was united in marriage to Francis J. Ullsperger on May 27, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebraska City.

She worked as a legal secretary and abstracter in her younger years. Following her marriage, she became an "agri-business woman" helping her husband Francis in the farming operation. Later in life after the children were all raised, she served as the accounts payable receptionist at the Nebraska City Manor. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was very active in various organizations within the church. She was the church organist for over 60 years, was a member of the Christian Mothers-where she held various offices, Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. She was a reporter for the Southern Nebraska Register for 30 years, a past 4H Leader and was President of the Lourdes Band. She was also a member of the Extension Club and served on the Board. She loved playing cards and was a member of the Card Club.

She is survived by her children Catherine Sawyer and husband Tom and David Ullsperger and wife Rhonda all of Nebraska City, NE; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and other family and friends.

She was preceded by her husband, Francis Ullsperger in 1987; a son Jerome in 1996, her parents and one sister Catherine Ann and one great-grandson.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebraska City with Fr. Michael McCabe officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Nebr. City.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday (10/21) followed by a Parish and Christian Mothers Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.
