Edith Leone Whitney
SCOTTSBLUFF - Edith Leone Whitney, 94, of Scottsbluff, formerly of Bayard, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 at the Residency Care Center at Scottsbluff. Her Memorial Service will be Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Community Church at Minatare with Tom Perkins and the Reverend Carolyn Dickinson officiating.
A Memorial Recital of good music, song and stories in the dining room at the Residency to honor Leone’s spirit by past students and friends will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 10 which the public is invited. A Memorial is established for the Whitney Memorial Scholarship Fund, for those wishing to contribute to furthering educational opportunities for young people in the North Platte Valley may mail to Dick Whitney, P. O. Box 246, Severance, Colo. 80546 or to the Jolliffe Funeral Home, 2104 Broadway, Scottsbluff, NE. 69361. Cremation was held at the Jolliffe Funeral Home Crematory at Scottsbluff. Leone was born April 3, 1910 at Lebanon, Neb. to William and Loella (Thompson) DeVoe. Her family lived south of Lisco, and at Sedgwick, Colo. before moving to Bartley, Neb. She attended grade school and high school at Bartley, where she graduated from Bartley High School with the Class of 1928. During her junior year of high school her father passed way.
She moved to Bayard in 1936 to teach school at the Bayard High School. On Christmas Eve of 1938 she was united in marriage to James A. Whitney at Bayard. She continued her teaching until 1941 when Jim was called to Las Vegas, Nev. to serve as head chemist at a Magnesium Manufacturing Plant during World War II.
They returned to Bayard in 1945 and farmed south of Bayard until moving into Bayard in February during the blizzard of 1949.During this time Leone had a large number of students taking both piano and voice lessons while also substitute teaching in the Bayard City Schools. She returned to the classroom full time in 1962 teaching in the Bayard City schools in both junior and senior high classes. In 1968 she received a Masters Degree in Social Studies from Chadron State College. She retired from teaching in 1975 at which time she was teaching the third generation of many families.
Leone was very active in the Presbyterian Church at Bayard where she was both the choir director and organist for 40 years. She was a member of the Chimney Rock Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star serving twice as the Worthy Matron. She and Jim were very active in local square dance clubs for years and had danced in every state of the U. S. and many countries in Europe.
Jim and Leone moved to the Residency at Scottsbluff in 1992 and enjoyed many friends and continued their Masonic activities. Leone served as organist at the Minatare Presbyterian Community Church for many years until her illness would no longer permit her to play, which was in January of this year.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; Bill and Cindy Whitney of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Dick and Jeanne Whitney of Severance, Colo., five grandchildren and a great grandchild. Her parents, husband Jim March 3, 2001, two brothers and a grandchild preceded her in death.

Lusiano S. Pina
WHEATLAND, Wyo. — Lusiano S. Pina, 61, of Wheatland, Wyo. died Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Mitchell and a rosary service Monday, March 7th at 7 p.m. with Father Stephen Deaver officiating. Interment will be held at Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday, March 7th. A memorial has been established to the family. Lusiano was born Nov. 3, 1943 to Lino and Mary (Hernandez) Pina in Gatesville, Texas, and received his early education at the Mitchell Elementary School, and graduated from Mitchell High School.
He is survived by his sons: Louie L. Pina and Lusiano L. Pina Jr., both of California; daughters: Denise and husband Todd Ewing of Mitchell, Lynna L. (Pina) Luna of California, and Lisa L. (Pina) Castillo of Wyoming; 1 sister; Tomasa Zamora, of Boise Idaho; three brothers; Felix Pina of Redding, Calif., twin brother Cipriano Pina of Union City Calif., and Raymond Pina of Scottsbluff; and 10 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters; Elsie, Alice and Janie: three brothers, Julius, Louie and Henry, and one grandson Augustine.

Edward H. Wegelin Sr.
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Funeral services for Edward H. Wegelin Sr., 79, will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Church of Christ with Pastor Matthew Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. He died on March 4, 2005 at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Visitation hours will be held on Monday from 1-6 pm and the casket will be open at the service. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions in his memory to the First United Church of Christ. Arrangements are by the Colyer Funeral Home.

Jamie M. Bunner
SIDNEY — Jamie M. Bunner, 21, of Sidney, and a senior at Chadron State College, died Tuesday morning, March 8, 2005, as the result of an automobile accident east of Chadron.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m., Saturday, March 12, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Fr. Edward Cortney and Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. Interment will follow with Graveside services at 4 p.m., (CST) at the Gates Cemetery, west of Sargent, Neb.
Friends may call Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a Vigil service to be held at 7 p.m., at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
A memorial has been established in care of the family.
Jamie Marie Bunner was born May 2, 1983, in Kimball, the daughter of Charles and Nancy (Slagle) Bunner. She received her elementary education in the Potter Schools through the 3rd grade before moving to Sidney where she graduated from Sidney High School in 2001. She was attending college at Chadron State College, working towards a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education. She spent the last two years working for the Office of Human Development in Chadron. At the time of her accident, she was on her way to Omaha to be with her fiancé.
Jamie was active in volleyball, the speech team for four years of which she qualified for state two years and received a medal at state her junior year. She was active with Jobs Daughters in Sidney and Kimball where she served as a past Honored Queen and as Miss Congeniality in 2000. While in Chadron as a freshman, she served as an Adopted Angel for grandparents in nursing homes. Jamie loved working with crafts and enjoyed giving of her time to help other people. She especially enjoyed working with children.
Survivors include her parents, Chuck and Nancy Bunner of Sidney; her fiancé, Cody Bequin of Rushville; three brothers, Jim Bunner of Kearney, Tyler Bunner of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Tad Bunner of Bakersfield, Calif.; one sister, Stacy Ban and her husband, Mike of Elbert, Colo. and their children, Ashley, Andrew and Austin; grandparents, John and Ella Mae Bunner of Lincoln, Ill.; foster sister, Pam Luby and her husband, Tim of Kansas City, Kan. and their children, Scott, Craig and Megan; special friends, Deb Walker of Ainsworth, Jerry and Julie Wamsley of Sidney and their children, Garrett, Alex and Beau; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Her maternal grandparents, Floyd and Mildred Slagle preceded her in death.

Jennifer Gurney Jarvis
LOVELAND, Colo. — Jennifer Gurney Jarvis, 30, of Loveland, died on March 8, 2005. She was born October 6, 1974, in Scottsbluff, Neb. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Creative Ministries Church, 600 E. Carlson, Suite 501, Cheyenne, Wyo. Cremation will be completed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jennifer Gurney Jarvis Memorial Fund in care of Allnutt Hunter Chapel, 2100 North Lincoln Avenue, Loveland, CO 80538.
Jennifer had been a waitress in Scottsbluff, and Cheyenne, Wyo., and was presently a waitress at Piccabeans Grill in Berthoud, Colo., and a student at Aims Community College. Jennifer’s pride and joy was her 5-year-old daughter, Brittany and her success in college.
She is survived by her daughter, Brittany of Loveland; ex husband, Ken Jarvis of Cheyenne; father, John Gurney of Scottsbluff; mother Paula Feeler and husband, Christopher of Loveland; sister, Danielle and husband, John Larsh of Rapid City, S.D.; step-brother and step-sister, Zachariah and Heather Feeler of Cheyenne; grandmother, Martha Arnold of Cheyenne; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her grandfather, Paul Arnold and grandparents, Van and Marie Gurney; great-grandparents, Earl and Ruth Arnold; and Aunt Claudia Waldock preceded her in death.

Llera A. Nott
DIX — Llera A. Nott, 87, a resident of Dix, died at United Medical Center in Cheyenne on Thursday, March 10, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 12, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball, with Pastor Ted Bourrett officiating. Burial will be at the Dix Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to either St. John’s Lutheran Church or Prairie Haven Hospice. Cantrell Funeral Home is in Charge of the arrangements.

Betty Leah Prime
MITCHELL — Betty Leah Prime, 92, of Mitchell, went to rest Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at her home. At her request, she will be cremated and a private family service will be held. Memorials in her name may be made to the Mitchell Care Center or to Wel-Life in Scottsbluff. Jones Mortuary assisted the family with the arrangements.
Betty was born August 20, 1912, in Gibbon, Neb., to Adam and Katherine (Bernherd) Adler. She married Sam Bryson in 1934, and to this union a daughter was born. She married Victor Prime in 1939 and to this union a son was born. Her life was hard work but she always had a smile and helping hand for others. She loved to sew, cook, garden and do word puzzles. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary in Gering.
She leaves behind a daughter, Martha (Marty) Kroh, with whom she lived in Mitchell; a son and daughter–in-law, Walter and Nancy Prime of Gering; grandchildren, Gene Leon and his wife, Cheri Kroh of Desoto, Texas, Monte Kroh of Enfield, Conn., and Terry Prime and his fiancée, Jenny Stinton, both serving in the United States Air Force at Travis AFB in Calif., great-grandchildren, Melissa and Tricia Kroh of Desoto, Texas, Kyle and Brett Kroh of Enfield, Conn. and special friends, Donna, Chelsea, LeeAnn, Paul and Gene. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Waiting for her to join them are her husband of 59 years, Victor Prime, her parents, Adam Adler and Katherine Adler Hoffman, step-father Conrad Hoffman, brothers, Adam. Jake, Dave, John, Henery, Clarence and Woodrow Adler, sisters, Mary Kennedy, Lydia Neisse, Hanna Fergerson, Dollie Schanaman and Louise Graumon
To all her friends and family, she will keep a place waiting for you.

William Ritchie
William Ritchie, 71, of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Regional West Medical Center. Arrangements are pending at The Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff.

Charles Cape
Charles Cape, 79, of Dalton, died Thursday, March 10, 2005 at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2005 in the Dalton Presbyterian Church with Bud Gillespie, C.L.P. and the Rev. H. Eldin Wells officiating. Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in care of the family.
Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney is in charge of arrangements.
Charles W. Cape was born Dec. 22, 1925 at the family home north of Dalton, the son of Robert and Mina (Mauer) Cape. His early years were spent on the family farm assisting his parents with the farming and livestock. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandfather, Martin Cape, and he still had in his possession a small rubber ball which his grandfather had given him. He spent many hours walking in the hills northwest of Dalton and became keenly aware of the habits of wildlife. He entered the U.S. Army on March 20, 1945 and was discharged on Nov. 28, 1946.
On June 15, 1952 he was united in marriage to Betty Dudgeon at Trumbull, Neb. They were blessed with a family of five boys and one girl. In 1961 they moved to Mud Springs Ranch northwest of Dalton and have lived there since that time.
He enjoyed farming, ranching and especially loved his Arabian horses; his greatest joy was in riding one of his Arabians. He was a 10-year member of the National Pony Express Association, each year he looked forward to participating in the ride or just following behind. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; sons, Bruce of Hanna, Wyo., Doug and wife Mindy of Dalton, Brian and wife Cyndi of Palmer, Ark., Mark of Dalton and Scott of Dalton, and his special friend Judy Abrams of Sidney; daughter, Terri Hoskins of Bridgeport; brothers: John of Grass Valley, Calif., Earl of Bartlesville, Okla., Jerry of Parrish, Fla. and Kayo of Dalton; sisters, Gladys Runge of Sidney, Roberta Pierce of Bellevue, Wash., Sharon Cape of Estes Park, Colo. and Connie Ankeny of Dalton; 10 grandchildren, six step grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Martin and Howard; one sister, Norma Jean Hall; and one son-in-law, Rich Hoskins.

Dorothy M. Jacobs
Dorothy M. Jacobs, 81, died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at the Beverly Healthcare in Scottsbluff under the care of Prairie Haven Hospice. Arrangements are pending at the Jones Mortuary in Mitchell.

William ‘Bill’ Howard Ritchie
William ‘Bill’ Howard Ritchie, 71, of Scottsbluff died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with family by his side. His Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2005 at the Jolliffe Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ed Hunzeker officiating including Military Rites performed by the Nebraska National Guard. Abiding by Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place at the Jolliffe Funeral Home Crematory in Scottsbluff. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Online condolences can be offered at sympathy@jolliffefuneralhome.com. Memorials may be offered to the family.
Bill was born on Jan. 2, 1934 in Ririe, Idaho to Robert and Kate (Cleverly) Ritchie. Following his high school career, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy on Feb. 6, 1952. He was stationed in numerous ports around the world, and received Medals of Honor in Korea and in China. Bill was honorably discharged on Jan. 31, 1956. He married Milla Robey on Nov. 4, 1957 in Pocatello, Idaho. Bill continued his schooling, receiving his degree in auto body repair. He worked for the Gibson Department Stores in Idaho, and moved to Western Nebraska due to a transfer within the Gibson organization. Bill joined the crew at the Montgomery Wards store in Scottsbluff for a short while, before becoming a distributor for Jewel T. After moving to Chadron, Bill started with Burlington Northern Rail Road as a clerk, where he remained until his retirement in 1998. Bill delivered for Heilbruns, Inc. during his retirement, and enjoyed his employment until mid 2004 when illness forced his resignation. Bill enjoyed fishing and nearly all sports. He was an avid pinochle player, and could often be found bowling in his earlier years. Bill was a past Commander of V.F.W. 7680 in Scottsbluff. He was a loving husband and father, and will be dearly missed by his family.
Bill is survived by his wife, Milla of Scottsbluff; sons, Cory Ritchie and Kurt Ritchie, both of Scottsbluff, Steve Ritchie and his wife Dianna of Scottsbluff and Kyle Ritchie of Sidney; brothers, Harold Ritchie and his wife Joann of Washington, and Oliver Ritchie and his wife Elaine of Idaho; sister, Ivy Fadness of Arizona; four grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
His parents; son, Scott; and daughter, Barbara preceded Bill in death.

Jacqualine R. Rupp
Jacqualine R. Rupp, 74, of Gering died Friday, March 11, 2005 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Gering surrounded by her loving family. Arrangements are pending at the Jones Mortuary in Mitchell.

Carmen Lovato Torres
TORRINGTON, WYO. — Funeral Mass of Christian burial for Carmen Lovato Torres, 79, will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at St. Rose Catholic Church with The Rev. Father Kevin Koch officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Visitation hours will be held at the Colyer Funeral Home on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A Wake/Rosary service will be on Monday evening at 6pm at the Church. Mrs. Torres died on March 11, 2005 at the Shepherd of the Valley care facility in Casper, Wyo. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home.

Cathy Kincaid, 55, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, March 11, 2005, at Regional West Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are pending at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff.
