Norma A. Zade

Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001

Franklin resident Norma A. (Stratton) Zade, 80, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Hutchins Funeral Home chapel in Franklin with the Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial will be at Thornberg Cemetery at Thornberg, Kan. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Sunday and 8 a.m. until services Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Zade was born icon Aug. 16, 1921, to Robert and Jessie (Rutledge) Stratton in Inavale. She graduated from Red Cloud High School in Red Cloud. On Nov. 29, 1941, she married Wilbert Zade in Smith Center, Kan. They lived in Red Cloud until 1955. They then moved to Franklin.

She was a member of the Franklin Missionary Church.

Survivors are her husband; three sons, Charles and Nick, both of Franklin, and Jerold "Bud" of Juniata; two daughters, Louanna Cantor of Wichita, Kan., and Wilberta Johnson of Doniphan; two brothers, Donald and Ward, both of Santa Maria, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Lillie M. Krick

Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001

Minden resident Lillie Mae Krick, 97, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001 at the Kearney County Health Services Long Term Care in Minden.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Minden with the Rev. Kathy Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Minden Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

Miss Krick was born icon Aug. 18, 1904, to Lewis E. and Camilla (Hansen) Krick at the Krick farm home west of Lowell. She moved with her family to Liberty Township in 1908. She attended country schools and Minden High School. She taught in country schools from 1924-28. From 1928-32, she attended Cotner College. She helped a Minden Christian Church minister with his two daughters after his wife died. She taught fourth grade at Minden East Elementary School. She taught French at Lowell Consolidated School and English at Minden High School and Kearney High School. She taught for more than 40 years. She attended the University of Colorado and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during the summers. She also helped Warp Publishing Co. in Minden with the publication of review books.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Minden.

Survivors are three sisters, Rose Krick of Minden, Vera Anderson of Denver and Eula Marquis of Fredericksburg, Texas; and one brother, Donald of Kearney.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Jean R. Swanson

Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001

Geneva resident Jean R. (Rolland) Swanson, 93, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Heritage of Geneva.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Sutton with the Rev. Elizabeth Hanley officiating. Burial will be in Saron Lutheran Cemetery near Saronville. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9-11:30 a.m. Monday at McLaughlin Funeral Home in Clay Center.

Mrs. Swanson was born icon Oct. 13, 1908, to James and Katherine (McFarland) Rolland on a farm in Harlan County near Republican City. She attended country school and graduated from Republican City High School in 1926. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in teaching. She taught school in Republican City and Alma. She also taught in Clay County for 20 years, including the schools of District 43 in Verona, District 67 in Eldorado, District 70 in Clay Center and District 78 in Saronville. In May 1948, she married Leo Swanson in Republican City. They lived on a farm between Clay Center and Saronville. She retired in the mid-1960s. Her husband died March 9, 1972. She moved to The Kensington in Hastings in 1995 and to the Heritage of Geneva in 1997.

She was a member of the PEO Chapter T of Clay Center and the Order of Eastern Star.

She also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or donor's choice.

Raymond R. Mohlman

Friday, Oct. 19, 2001

Former Glenvil resident Raymond R. Mohlman, 81, of South Bend, Ind., died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at his home.

Memorial services will be at a later date. There will be no burial. The remains were cremated. The American Cremation Society of South Bend is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mohlman was born icon Oct. 16, 1920, to John Johnson and Elsie Marie Christina (Nelson) Mohlman. He married Doris Garbet.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Bernice McCorquodale of St. Charles, La.; two sons, Donald of Leavenworth, Kan., and Harold of South Bend; and one brother, James of Pinellas Park, Fla.

Margaret H. Utecht

Margaret H. Utecht, 95, of Perkins Pavilion, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Perkins Pavilion.

Services will be Saturday, April 7, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard A. Kothe officiating. Burial will be in Glenvil Cemetery, Glenvil, Nebraska.

Margaret H. Utecht was born icon May 4, 1905 in Clay County, Nebraska near Glenvil to Herman & Matie (Alberts) Eigenberg. She married Martin Utecht on March 26, 1924 and he preceded her in death on April 12, 1983. They moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1970. She was a homemaker and also worked for Midland's Lodge, Villa Grace and Hope Training School. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Margaret H. Utecht was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Martin, 2 sons, Eldon & Vernon Utecht, 1 sister, Joan Rouse and 1 brother, Gus Eigenberg.

J. Vern Bassett

Hastings resident, J. Vern Bassett, 82, of 1069 So. Hastings, died Monday, April 2, 2001 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Rosary service will be Wednesday, April 4, 2001; 8:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, April 5, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father James Meysenburg officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

J. Vern Bassett was born icon September 1, 1918 in Adams County, Nebraska to Arthur & Gladys (Rynearson) Bassett. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1936. He married Phyllis M. Brouillette on May 28, 1940 and she preceded him in death in 2000. He worked at Rutt's Pharmacy before serving in the United States Army from February 1943 to November 1945. He attended Neon Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio and became owner/operator of Hastings Neon Sign Company. He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. #1346, American Legion and Eagles. He had his private pilots license and enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting.

J. Vern Bassett was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Phyllis, brothers, Roger, John and Robert.

Harold J. Uhrich

Harold J. Uhrich, 83, of 2513 W. 5th Street, died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2001; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Kathleen Kasper officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Harold J. Uhrich was born icon September 21, 1917 in Hastings, Nebraska to John & Anna Uhrich. He served in the United States Army from February 13, 1941 to December 3, 1945. On September 3, 1945, he married Irma St. Martin. He retired from the United States Government Naval Ammunition Depot where he was in maintenance. He was a life long Hastings resident and a member of the Eagles, American Legion and D.A.V.

Harold J. Uhrich was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Alice C. Schutte, 82, of 7570 N. Highland Rd., Hastings, Nebraska, died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at her home.

Services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Juniata, Nebraska with Rev. Greg Volzke officiating. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery, Christ Lutheran churchyard, rural Juniata, Nebraska.

Alice C. Schutte was born icon March 21, 1919 in Clarinda, Iowa to Louis & Josephine (Sunderman) Henneman. She married Lawrence Schutte at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clarinda, Iowa on February 14, 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1972. They moved to Hastings, Nebraska after their marriage. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Lutheran Womens Missionary League, Ladies guild all at Christ Lutheran, rural Juniata and volunteered 2,182 hours, as a Pink Lady at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Alice C. Schutte was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lawrence and 2 brothers, Harry & Lee Henneman.

Robert W. Campbell, 74, of 510 W. 10th, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Memorial service will be Saturday, January 6th, 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Burial will be at a later date. No viewing or visitation.

Robert W. Campbell was born icon February 12, 1926 in Republic, Kansas to Lee Ira & Matie (Reber) Campbell. He attended York High School, York, Nebraska. He served in the United States Army during WWII. On December 7, 1949, he married Ruby Schnell. He was a retired commercial custodial supply salesman for Kelso of Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #50, V.F.W. and a life member of Nebraska Custodial Association

Robert W. Campbell was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wilma Shafer.
