Maxine M. Bordihn, 83, of 1700 Highland Dr., died Sunday, January 14, 2001 at Perkins Pavilion, Hastings, Nebraska.

Wake service will be Wednesday, January 17, 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 18, 2001; 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, Illinois.

Maxine M. Bordihn was born icon March 25, 1917 in Hastings, Nebraska to Raymond Lee & Margaret A. (Harr) Johnston. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1934 and attended Hastings College then graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1938 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She was a dietitian at VA hospitals. She married Edward Wanuka and he preceded her in death in 1975. She then married Irv Bordihn and he also preceded her in death in1991. She moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1998 from Gurnee, Illinois. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and P.E.O. Chapter G.

Maxine M. Bordihn was preceded in death by her parents, and husbands, Edward Wanuka and Irv Bordihn.

Benjamin L. 'Ben' Porter

Benjamin L. ‘Ben' Porter, 63, of 1318 Crane Ave., died Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at Mary Lanning Hospital.

Services will be Friday, January 26, 2001; 11:00 A.M. at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with Pastor John L. Ross officiating. Burial will be Friday, January 26, 2001; 2:30 P.M. in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Kensington, Kansas.

Benjamin L. ‘Ben' Porter was born icon May 26, 1937 in Lincoln County, Kansas to Charles Walter & Treva Irene (Baker) Porter. At the age of 3, he moved with his family to Smith Center, Kansas and then to David City, Nebraska at the age of 12. He graduated from David City High School, David City, Nebraska in 1955. He attended Kearney State College until 1959 and then began working in the appliance department for Sears in Kearney, Nebraska. In 1965, he moved to Hastings, Nebraska and worked for Big G Appliance & Home Entertainment. He later worked for Hoover Vacuum and then became manager of the Eagles Club for many years. On May 2, 1971 he married Priscilla Seemann at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kensington, Kansas. He was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

Thecla Langford

Thecla Langford, 91, of Perkins Pavilion, died Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Perkins Pavilion, Hastings, Nebraska.

The body was cremated.

Memorial Mass will be Friday, February 9, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Private family interment at a later date.

Thecla Langford was born icon August 1, 1909 in Ellis County, Kansas to Frank & Anna (Gross) Rohr. She married William L. Langford on September 29, 1936 in Whittier, California and he preceded her in death on October 21, 1997. She moved from Simi, California to Hastings, Nebraska in 1997.

Thecla Langford was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Nora Carlson, 98, or Perkins Pavilion, died Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Perkins Pavilion.

Graveside services and burial will be Wednesday, January 31, 2001; 11:30 A.M. at Westlawn Memorial Park, Grand Island, Nebraska with Dr. Joe Scahill officiating.

Nora Carlson was born icon April 20, 1902 in Eustis, Nebraska to William & Louise (Weber) Hueftle. She graduated from Eustis High School and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Nebraska. She married Harold Carlson in 1944 in Seattle, Washington and lived in Bremerton, Washington, Rochester, Minnesota and various other places. She taught school for 22 years, 9 years at Alcott Elementary School, Hastings, Nebraska. She was a past President of the V.F.W Auxiliary and Hastings Retired Teachers Association. She moved to The Kensington in Hastings, Nebraska in 1989 and later to Good Samaritan Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Nora Carlson was preceded in death by her parents and husband Harold Carlson and a step daughter, Audrey Quinlan.

Raymond J. 'Ray' Schmidt

Raymond J. ‘Ray' Schmidt, 78, of 2235 W. Assumption Rd, Hastings, Nebraska, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Saturday, February 3, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathleen Kasper officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Raymond J. ‘Ray' Schmidt was born icon July 12, 1922 in Adams County, Nebraska in the home on the family farm of Jacob & Lena (Eihusen) Schmidt. He married Mary C. Rader on February 21, 1950 at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska. He was a retired farmer, living his entire life on the homestead. He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Raymond J. ‘Ray' Schmidt was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harry, Carl and Ernest Schmidt and a sister, Helen Sickles.

Della Mann, 93, of Perkins Pavilion, died Friday, December 1, 2000 at Perkins Pavilion.

Private graveside services and burial will be Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at Blue Springs Cemetery, Blue Springs, Nebraska.

Della Mann was born icon July 9, 1907 in Brooklyn, New York to George & Elizabeth (VanZanten) Cowden. She came to Nebraska on the Orphan Train and settled with a family in Blue Springs. On March 26, 1927, she married Charles E. Mann in Marysville, Kansas and he preceded her in death in 1985. She was a homemaker and a 50 year member of First Christian Church and also a member of Eastern Star Vesper Chapter #9, both in Beatrice, Nebraska. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile and Shrine Auxiliary in Hastings, Nebraska.

Della Mann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; 2 brothers, 1 sister, and 2 foster sisters.

Survivors include, Daughter & Son-in-law, Yvonne & Ted Ziemba - Hastings, NE; Grandchildren, Michael Ziemba - Hastings, NE,Mary Conner - Kansas City, KS; 5 Great Grandchildren

Memorial may be given to Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children

Elsie Stark, 87, of Harvard Rest Haven, Harvard, Nebraska, died Sunday, December 3, 2000 at Harvard Rest Haven.

Services will be Thursday, December 7, 2000; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Dean Joy officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Elsie Stark was born icon February 11, 1913 in Campbell, Nebraska to Frank & Mabel (Adler) Rutt. She moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1929. On October 27, 1930, she married James D. Stark and he preceded her in death on January 21, 1975. She was a homemaker and worked at Mode O'Day. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and National Campers & Hikers.

Elsie Stark was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James; infant daughter, Janice Rae, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
