Robert Dean Nelson

Robert Dean Nelson, 74, of 206 Clay Ave., Inland, Nebraska, died Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Memorial service will be Saturday, December 9, 2000; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Jeff Hale officiating. Interment will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska at a later date.

Robert Dean Nelson was born icon August 19, 1926 in Elyria, Nebraska to John & Anna (Anderson) Nelson. He served in the United States Coast Guard - Merchant Marines from June 15, 1943 to August 15, 1945. After his discharge, he moved to Hastings, Nebraska and then lived in Inland, Nebraska for the last 40 years. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad from 1948 until his retirement in 1988. On October 14, 1960, he married Shirley (Rosenau) Nass in Ord, Nebraska.

Robert Dean Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

Survivors include,Wife, Shirley Nelson - Inland, NE; Sons, Robert D. Nelson, Jr. - Apache Junction, AZ, Ray L. Nelson - Greenwood, SC,Stephen L. Nass - Fort Collins, CO; Daughters, Loretta J. Nisson - Show Low, AZ, Liz Pishna - Santa Ynez, CA; Brother,Myron Nelson - Kingsburg, CA; Sister: Shirley Anderson - Lakeland, FL; 14 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren

Dorothy M. Arnold

Dorothy M. Arnold, 92, of The Kensington, 233 N. Hastings, died Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at the Kensington.

Inurnment will be in LeGrand, Iowa at a later date. There will be no services.

Dorothy M. Arnold was born icon October 31, 1908 in LeGrand, Iowa to Earl & Frances (Hill) Arnold. She graduated from high school in Sac City, Iowa in 1927. She received her B. A degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1931 and her M.A degree from the University of Iowa in education in 1935. She served her country as a W.A.C. from 1943-1945 and was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. Her career was as a secondary educator, starting in Albany, New York and then in Las Vegas, Nevada. For many years during summer breaks, she worked as a counselor at camps in Northern New York and in Maine. She was a member of the American Association of University of Women, National Education Association and Kelta Kappa.

Dorothy M. Arnold was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Russell of Florida and sister Evelyn M. Wallace of Hastings, Nebraska.

Survivors include,

Clara E. Lutkemier

Former Hastings resident, Clara E. Lutkemeier, 97, of Wilmot, South Dakota, died Saturday, December 9, 2000 the Community Home, Wilmot, South Dakota.

Services will be Thursday, December 14, 2000; 2:30 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Matt Nieman officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Clara E. Lutkemeier was born icon September 18, 1903 in Campbell, Nebraska to John Peter & Alice (Reiber) Adler. On October 2, 1924, she married Herman Lutkemeier in Campbell, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on October 7, 1993. They farmed south of Holstein, Nebraska for 43 years. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Campbell, Nebraska and was the organist for 43 years. She was active in the Church's Women's Organization, serving as an officer. On their retirement in 1967, they moved from the farm to Hastings, Nebraska where she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as a Circle Chairman of the Women's Organization and as an officer in the Church's Retirees Fellowship Group. For many years, she was a member of Harmony Club, Hastings Women's Club, Y.W.C.A. and served on the Board of Sunnyside Home. She served as a substitute and interim organist in several Hastings Churches.

Clara E. Lutkemeier was preceded in death by parents, husband, Herman, son, Robert of Wilmot, South Dakota, sister, Pauline Koch of Hastings, Nebraska, and 1 brother, Alex of Clinton, Iowa.

Survivors include,

Lottie M. Short, 85, of Haven Home of Kenesaw, Nebraska, died December 9, 2000 at Haven Home.

Chapel service will be Wednesday, December 13, 2000; 1:00 P.M. at Price Funeral Home Maryville, Missouri with Dr. Franklin Marlin officiating. Burial will be in Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville, Missouri.

Lottie M. Short was born icon February 22, 1915 in Barnard, Missouri to John & Mertie O. (Mathers) Furlong. She graduated from Barnard High School, Bernard, Missouri. She married A. Allen short of Maryville, Missouri on September 30, 1933 and he preceded her in death in 1999. Lottie was a LPN at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri and also a private duty nurse. She was a member of the Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge, both in Maryville, Missouri. She and her husband moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1994.

Lottie M. Short was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Allen and a brother, Cleo A. Furlong.

Survivors include,

Services will be Friday, December 15, 2000; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska, with Rev. Earl Higgins & Dr. Carl W. Utley officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

William H. ‘Bill' Frei was born icon July 9, 1950 in Yankton, South Dakota to Robert H. & Betty (Laird) Frei. He graduated from Wagner Community High School, Wagner, South Dakota in 1968 and from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, South Dakota with a B.S. in Business and Economics in 1972. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He moved from Vermillion, South Dakota to Hastings, Nebraska in 1972 and began his career with Laird Motors. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lochland Country Club, Mid-West Lodge #317 A.F. & A.M., Hastings Scottish Rite Bodies, Tehama Shrine Temple, Sunrise Rotary Club where he served as a past President and Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce, where he was a past Ambassador. He was a past member of the Regional Ford Dealer Advertising Board. On November 28, 1992, he married Barbara D. Bramblett.

Mary A. Hanson

Mary A. Hanson, 63, of 9315 W. Assumption Rd., Juniata, Nebraska, died Thursday, December 14, 2000 at St. Francis Medical Center Skilled Care Unit, Grand Island, Nebraska.

Services will be Tuesday, December 19, 2000; 11:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathleen Kasper & Rev. Paul Konig officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Mary A. Hanson was born icon May 8, 1937 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Marvin E. & Norma M. (Denker) Beekman. She graduated from Axtell High School, Axtell, Nebraska in 1954. She received her AA in Elementary Education from Luther Junior College, Wahoo, Nebraska; her BA in Education from Kearney State College, Kearney, Nebraska; and her MS in Guidance & Counseling from the University of Nebraska, Kearney, Nebraska. She taught school in Shickley, Nebraska and then moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1961. She taught PE at Hastings Junior High School. On August 18, 1963, she married W. Dean Hanson at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska. She was a part-time instructor in psychology at Hastings College, and worked at Crosier Counseling Services. She was a partner at CM Counseling Services and also worked as a Mental Health Professional at Hastings College. She was an active member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, a 4-H Leader for seventeen years, a member of the Human Services Coalition, Farm Bureau Women's Chair, an officer in Adams County Rural Youth and a participant in the International Foreign Youth Exchange with a tour to Europe. Her professional organizations included: American Association for Counseling and Development, Nebraska Association for Counseling and Development and Nebraska State-Wide Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) Team. She received the Outstanding Nebraska State CISD Award in 1995, Farm Bureau Woman of the Year Award and numerous 4-H Leader awards.

Mary A. Hanson was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marlene Samuelson.

Artie F. Childers was born icon January 3, 1930 in Hastings, Nebraska to Alfred & Laura (Bernt) Dieken. She married Thomas R. Childers on January 21, 1951 and he preceded her in death on February 1, 1998. She worked for Debus/Metz Bakery. She was a life long Hastings resident and a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.

Artie F. Childers was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Thomas and a sister; Dorothy Raver.
