Dorothy B. Sieloff, 90, of Perkins Pavilion, died Sunday, December 17, 2000 at Perkins Pavilion.

Services will be Wednesday, December 20, 2000; 10:30 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Dorothy B. Sieloff was born icon June 21, 1910 in New Ulm, Minnesota to Frank & Lois (Henderson) Arndt. She grew up and graduated in Minnesota. On January 4, 1936, she married George Sieloff and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1985. In 1945, she moved from Illinois to Hastings, Nebraska. She worked at Davidson's Flower Shop and Salas Flower Shop for many years before retiring. She babysat and also started her own catering business in Hastings until her health failed. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska.

Dorothy B. Sieloff was preceded in death by her parents, husband; George, son; Robert, great granddaughter; Stephanie Nicole, brothers; Robert, Richard & Milo Arndt.

Survivors include,
Granddaughter: Arlene Karr - Hastings, NE
Grandson: Tom Karr - Hastings, NE
Great Grandchildren: Heather Karr - Hastings, NE
Kaitlyn Karr - Hastings, NE

Marjorie Howland

Marjorie Howland, 85, of Perkins Pavilion, died December 18, 2000 at Perkins Pavilion.

Services will be Thursday, December 21, 2000; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Tom Howland officiating. Burial will be in Juniata Cemetery, Juniata, Nebraska.

Marjorie Howland was born icon June16, 1915 in Hastings, Nebraska to John & LuLu Cunningham. She married Frank Howland on December 25, 1937 and he preceded her in death in 1980. She was a loving mother to her children, worked as a secretary, was a member of the DAR and had a passion for researching the genealogies of the Howland and Cunningham families. Over a 20 year period, she traced her husband's lineage to Pilgrim John Howland. She was a member of the First church of God.

Marjorie Howland was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Frank, and a half brother; Earl Wilson.

Irvin E. 'Irv' Harper

Irvin E. Harper, 89, a former resident of Seattle, Washington and a present resident of Hastings since April 15, 1999, died at The Kensington, Friday, December 15, 2000.

Prayer service will be Friday, December 22, 2000; 1:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Joy officiating. Graveside service will be Friday, December 22, 2000; 2:30 P.M. Minden Cemetery, Minden, Nebraska.

Irvin E. ‘Irv' Harper was born icon in Campbell, Nebraska May 27, 1911 to Rolland W. & Anna (Jensen) Harper. He was baptized in the Congregation Church in Campbell. He moved with his family to a farm near Holyoke, Colorado in 1917. He attended school there until the family returned to Campbell in 1925. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1929. He was employed as a bookkeeper for a Campbell firm, returning to the farm following the death of his father on December 15, 1929. He, with his mother, continued on the farm until the tornado, May 8, 1930 destroyed most of the buildings. He enlisted in the Navy, serving on the repair ship, the U.S. Medusa from 1932-1936. He moved to Los Angeles, California to further his education and join the business world, until he enlisted in the U.S. Army, Infantry division in Fort Benning, Georgia. He graduated from their Officers Training Department, receiving the rank of First Lieutenant. He moved on to Ft. Ord, California for further assignments. He was assigned to Ft. Lewis Washington where he remained from 1942-1946. Returning to civilian status in Seattle, where he called home and began his banking career. On July 15, 1946, he married Betty Hamilton and she preceded him in death. Pre & post retirement, he encountered many serious illnesses. He moved to Hastings, April 15, 1999 to the home of his sisters, moving to Good Samaritan Village on June 15, 1999 and to The Kensington, June 28, 2000.

Irvin E. 'Irv' Harper was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty; an infant brother, Robert Harper and a brother, Kenneth Harper.

Survivors include,

Mary D. McCall

Mary D. McCall, 101, of Perkins Pavilion, died Saturday, December 23, 2000 at Perkins Pavilion.

Burial will be Wednesday, December 27, 2000; 11:00 A.M. at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska, prior to funeral service. Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 27, 2000; 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Carl W. Utley and Dr. Donald D. McCall officiating. No public viewing or visitation.

Mary D. McCall was born icon November 16, 1899 in Providence, Rhode Island. After college, Mary became a social worker in Brooklyn, New York and later in New Bedford, Connecticut. In 1923, she married Dr. William A. McCall and he preceded her in death. They served as missionaries of the Presbyterian Church in Syrian and Lebanon for 13 years. They returned to the United States in 1941 at the outbreak of WWII and moved to Hastings, Nebraska where Dr. McCall joined the Hastings College faculty, where he was a professor. In 1947, Mary began working with the Hastings Public School System as a visiting teacher and social worker serving as liaison with local organizations and agencies in helping children meet their varied educational and individual needs. She served on numerous civic boards and agencies including the YWCA, Salvation Army and The Nebraska Committee for Children and Youth. In 1965, she received an Appreciation Award from the Kiwanis Club for her "Unselfish devotion to the boys and girls of Hastings, Nebraska. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served for many years on the Board of Deacons. She was also a member of the Fortnightly Club and PEO sisterhood.

Mary D. McCall was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dr. William A. McCall and a son, Dr. William A. McCall Jr.

Loretta J. Petr, 83, of Wichita, Kansas, died Friday, December 22, 2000 at Via Christi/St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kansas.

Rosary will be Wednesday, December 27, 7:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 28, 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Monsignor Ivan Vap, Father Christopher Kubat and Father Gerald Vap officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Loretta J. Petr was born icon March 10, 1917 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Henry A. & Julia K. (Solko) Schreiter. She worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City, Nebraska. She married George Petr on October 19, 1949 in Nebraska City, Nebraska and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1999. They lived in Deweese, Nebraska until moving to Hastings, Nebraska in 1966. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Altar Society, Catholic Workman, Crosier Apostolate, quilting club, South Central Nebraska Czech Society and a card club. She enjoyed gardening and was a volunteer at the Regional Center, Retired Seniors and Meals-On-Wheels.

Loretta J. Petr was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George and a brother, Robert Schreiter.

Mario Garcia, 63, of 140 E. 6th, died Tuesday, December 26, 2000 at Bryan LGH Medical Center East, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Friday, December 29, 2000; 9:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow immediately with Father Bernard Lorenz officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Mario Garcia was born icon January 19, 1937 in Torreon Coahuila, Mexico to Gabino & Altagracia (Alvarez Alfaro) Garcia Sr. He was a general laborer in agriculture. He moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1998 from Mexico. He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.

Elmer P. Baker, 76, of 131 West 9th , Holdrege, Nebraska died Sunday, December 24, 2000 at Bryan LGH Medical Center East, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Services will be Friday, December 29, 2000; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Melva Tranmer officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Elmer P. Baker was born icon November 9, 1924 in Hastings, Nebraska to Peter E. & Natalia D. (Engel) Baker. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army Rangers from June 1943 to December 1945. On November 24, 1946 he married Beverly D. Pederson. He was the purchasing agent for Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District from March 1947 to November 1992. He moved from Hastings, Nebraska to Holdrege, Nebraska in 1963. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Holdrege Country Club, both in Holdrege, Nebraska. He was a member of Mid-West Lodge #317 A.F & A.M., Hastings Scottish Rite Bodies and Tehama Shrine Temple, all of Hastings, Nebraska. He was also a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Elks and a former member of D.A.V.

Elmer P. Baker was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Helen Taylor, Ruth Bierman and Irene Lissman, 3 brothers, Kenneth Baker, Raymond Baker and Reuben Baker and 1 grandson, Michael Baker.
