Carmen Fay Lewis, 79, of Goldbeck Towers, Good Samaritan Village, died March 31, 2001 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at All Saints Chapel, Good Samaritan Village with Pastor Bill Liddell officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska, Wednesday, April 4, 2001; 3:00 P.M.

Carmen Fay Lewis was born icon August 12, 1921 in Fillmore County Township of West Blue (Grafton) Nebraska to Cleveland & Clara Belle (Swartz) King. She graduated from Grafton High School in 1939. On October 13, 1941, she married Vernie F. Lewis in Fairbury, Nebraska and he preceded her in death in 1995. They farmed in Chandler, Oklahoma, Loveland, Colorado and Giltner, Nebraska. In 1973 they retired to Loveland, Colorado before moving to Hastings, Nebraska in 1994. Carmen worked as a cook at the Giltner Public Schools and Monroe Elementary School in Loveland, Colorado. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hastings, Life Member of V.F. W. Auxiliary Post #1346 in Hastings, and past Auxiliary President Post # 41, Loveland, Colorado. Past Noble Grand Rebekah Lodge Chapter in Loveland, Colorado and Hastings, Nebraska. Member of American Legion Auxiliary and Past President American War Mothers both in Loveland, Colorado. She spent many hours volunteering her baking talents with the Veterans and Good Samaritan Village Organizations.

Carmen Fay Lewis was preceded in death by husband, Vernie, 3 brothers; twins, Floyd and Lloyd King & Lyle King and 2 grandchildren.

Eric Miles Richardson

Eric Miles Richardson, 39, of 3355 So. Valley Rd, Hastings, Nebraska, died Friday, March 30, 2001 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, April 3, 2001; 11:00 A.M. at Berean Bible Church with Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating. Private family burial was in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska prior to memorial services.

Eric Miles Richardson was born icon August 27, 1961 in Portland, Oregon to Dr. Charles & LaVonne (Smith) Richardson. He graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School, Lincoln, Nebraska in 1982. He moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1994. He worked for Mama Rosey's and was a member of Berean Bible Church, Assistant Sunday School teacher and the church photographer. He was a member and an instructor for AWANA, Approved Workers Are Not Ashamed.

Eric Miles Richardson was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Melvin Burdette Swanson

Hastings resident, Melvin Burdette Swanson, 93, of The Kensington, 233 N. Hastings, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Friday, March 30, 2001; 2:00 P.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathleen Kasper officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Melvin B. Swanson was born icon March 25, 1908 in Ong, Nebraska to Henry G. & Mary (Nelson) Swanson. He was baptized in the Stockham Lutheran Church at Shickley, Nebraska on May 10, 1908 and was confirmed April 29, 1923 at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Ong, Nebraska. He graduated from Ong High School in 1926 and farmed until 1942 in the Ong-Edgar vicinity for twelve years. On September 17, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy and attended Store Keeper School in Toledo, Ohio, where he was rated third class Store Keeper, and assigned to the USS Windsor, spending a year in the Pacific. He was a member of the Navy Glee Club in Toledo, Ohio. He received the following awards: Asiatic Pacific Area, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American ARE, Point System and Victory Medal WWII. He was honorably discharged February 4, 1946 as Store Keeper First Class. On May 26, 1946, he married Seatta (Hornbacher) Wenz in Sutton, Nebraska and lived in Davenport, Nebraska where he was employed at Davenport Implement Company for nine and a half years. In 1955, they moved to Hastings, Nebraska for his employment with Fred Spady Motors for seven years, later he worked at the Big G General Supply for twelve years, retiring in 1974. In 1996, his health required him to live at The Kensington. In July of 2000, he moved to Perkins Pavilion where he lived until his death. He enjoyed his family and their annual gatherings in September, music, cards, visiting and life at The Kensington. He was an active member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, past member of Chorus of the Plains, sixteen year member of The Golden Age Entertainers Band of the Good Samaritan Village, playing drums, U.C.T, AARP, and American Legion as marker for the deceased Veterans Office.

Melvin B. Swanson was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 4 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law.

Jean W. Kelsey, 86, of The Kensington, Hastings, Nebraska died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Perkins Pavilion, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Tuesday, March 27, 2001; 1:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Additional services will be Friday, March 30, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at Dilday - Mottell's Mortuary, Long Beach, California with Rev. Roger Beard officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Long Beach, California.

Jean W. Kelsey was born icon October 8, 1914 in San Francisco, California to Henry & Edna (Merrill) Worthington. She married Howard Kelsey on December 25, 1936 at Long Beach, California and he preceded her in death on March 21, 1988. Jean was a school crossing guard for the Long Beach Police from 1958 through 1978. She was also a homemaker and a member of the Parkcrest Christian Church in Long Beach, California. She moved to Hastings in October 2000 from Seal Beach, California.

Jean W. Kelsey was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard Kelsey Sr., granddaughter Cheri Kelsey and brother Merrill Worthington.

Former Hastings resident, Lloyd Edwin Lenz, 87, of De Soto, Missouri, died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Crystal City, Missouri.

Services will be Monday, March 26, 2001; 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Nazarene with Rev. David Speicher officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Lloyd Edwin Lenz was born icon May 18, 1913 in Hastings, Nebraska to John H. & Ollie A. (Kennedy) Lenz. He married Viola J. Grandy, September 10, 1934 and she preceded him in death in 1939. On December 4, 1940, he married Mildred I. Plum in Hastings, Nebraska. She preceded him in death in 1988. He farmed in Adams County, Nebraska and retired in 1969. They moved into Hastings where they lived at 2318 West 7th. He also lived at Village Terrace until moving to Festus, Missouri to live with his son, John in 1999. He was a member of the Church of Nazarene.

Lloyd Edwin Lenz was preceded in death by his parents, 2 wives; Viola J. (Grandy) Lenz & Mildred I. (Plum) Lenz, an infant daughter, daughter, Phyllis, grandson, Stephan Lenz and a sister, Esther (Lenz) Snow.

Julie Ann Dack, 38, of 1303 Araphoe Ave., died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at her home.

Services will be Saturday, March 24, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathleen Kasper officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Blue Hill, Nebraska.

Julie Ann Dack was born icon May 10, 1962 at Red Cloud, Nebraska to Alan & Nancy (Hesman) Krueger. She graduated from Hastings High School and received her Degree and License in Cosmetology from McCook Beauty School, McCook, Nebraska and a Degree in Office Technology from Central Community College, Hastings, Nebraska. She married Dana Dack on February 2, 1985 in Hastings Nebraska and they later divorced. She was a homemaker and a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church and also attended the Salvation Army.

Julie Ann Dack was preceded in death by her grandfather, George Hesman and grandparents, Elizabeth & Paul Krueger, Sr.
