Hastings resident, Loraine Fox, 82, died Monday, May 7, 2001 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Peters, Missouri.

Rosary will be Friday, May 11, 2001; 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 12, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be Saturday, May 12, 2001; 3:00 P.M. at St. Michael's Cemetery, Spalding, Nebraska with Father Joseph Hannappel officiating.

The matron of the "Fox Clan" Loraine Fox was born icon August 3, 1918 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Jesse & Katherine (Harrahill) Scott. She grew up and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Greeley, Nebraska. She worked for her father, County Judge Jesse Scott, for two years before going to Lincoln, Nebraska to attend business school. She worked in the Lincoln office of Roberts Dairy Company until 1942. She married Robert J. Fox on July 18, 1942 in Boulder City, Nevada and he preceded her in death on February 4, 1987. In 1950, they moved to Spalding, Nebraska where her St. Patrick's Day celebrations including green mash potatoes, green gravy and hours of dancing became legendary. In 1972, they moved to Hastings, Nebraska. She loved to read and friends would stop by her home at all times, knowing she not only would listen with love, but would find the perfect book in her extensive library to inspire them as they traveled down their next path in life. In 1999, she moved to St. Peters, Missouri, to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Chris Mazour and their three children. Being a big part of her grandchildren's lives was life to Loraine. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska and a member of the OLA Writing & Dream group. Her passions were traveling to visit family and friends, reading, sandhill cranes, trees, Irish music and meaningful moments with people. She will be missed deeply by all.

Loraine Fox was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Robert Fox, MD; 6 infant sons; Nicholas, John, Paul, Thomas, Joseph and James; 1 infant daughter, Mary Ann; a sister, Catherine Scott Beran.

Survivors include,

Chris Mazour - St. Peters, MO
Kay Raheja - Laurens, SC
Sons: Patrick Fox - Los Altos, CA
Robert Fox - Seward, AK
Brother: Paul Scott - near Washington, D.C.
Grandchildren: 8

Kermit Gundersen

Kermit Gundersen, 88, of Haven Home, Kenesaw, Nebraska, died Friday, May 4, 2001at the Haven Home.

Graveside service and burial will be Tuesday, May 8, 2001; 11:00 A.M. at Hanover Presbyterian Churchyard Cemetery, southeast of Hastings, Nebraska, with Rev. Jay Snell officiating.

Kermit Gundersen was born icon October 17, 1912 in Adams County Nebraska to Carl & Lydia (Trier) Gundersen. He married Anna S. Rothfuss in Kearney, Nebraska on October 18, 1933. She preceded him in death in 1990. He was a life long area resident and a member of Hanover Presbyterian Church.

Kermit Gundersen was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Anna and a son, Dean Gundersen.

Survivors include,

Margaret Piel - Ft. Collins, CO
Glenda Bell - Harvard, NE

Doris M. Buss

Doris M. Buss, 77, of 1245 North Lexington, Hastings, Nebraska died Thursday, May 3, 2001 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, May 8, 2001; 2:00 P. M. at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Donald E. Boeschen officiating.

Doris M. Buss was born icon March 9, 1924 in Hastings, Nebraska to Chris & Katherine (Fox) Jensen. She grew up in Hastings attending school there and graduated from Hastings High School in 1941. She married Edgar (Eddie) Buss in 1943 and he preceded her in death on November 25, 1995. She worked for Lincoln Telephone Company, Hastings Regional Center and in the customer service department of J C Penney Company in Hastings.

Doris M. Buss was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eddie Buss and granddaughter Amy Kostal.

Survivors include,

Dwight Catlett

Dwight Catlett, 91, of Hastings, died Saturday, June 30, 2001 at Perkins Pavilion, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Thursday, July 5, 2001; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Griger officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Dwight Catlett was born icon September 19, 1909 at the Richard Burton homestead near Bartley, Nebraska to the Rev. Charles E. and Lillie Lois (Burton) Catlett. He graduated from Max High School and Nebraska Wesleyan University with a degree in Physics and Education. He married Dorothy E. Fetters of Crawford, Nebraska on May 27, 1936. He took additional graduate work in music education at Peru College, Peru, Nebraska and Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. He taught science, math, and music in the Holdrege, Stratton, Crawford, Shelton and Wymore school systems from 1931 to 1941. From 1941-1943, he was an instructor at the War Training Program of the Lincoln Aeronautical Institute and Flying School. He worked for Western Electric as an electrical engineer in Lincoln and Omaha from 1944 until his retirement in 1974. During this period, he and Dorothy raised their family in University Place in Lincoln and Papillion, Nebraska. In 1988, they moved to Hastings, Nebraska. Following Dorothy's death in 1989, he married Margaret Rutt of Hastings and she preceded him in death in 2000. He was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and served on many committees over the years. He worked for the Republican Party with Dorothy, eventually becoming Sarpy County Republican Chairman. He had a lifetime dedication to community service and to the enjoyment and creation of music. He directed and sang in many church choirs, participated in community bands and musical productions, and led the Western Electric employees' Weoma Band. He directed the Omaha Saint Paul United Methodist Community Orchestra. He helped organize and participated in "kitchen bands" at senior citizen facilities including the Paxton Pacers Rhythm Band that played at the 1981 White House Conference on Aging. He was a member of the Hastings First United Methodist Church Brass Choir and played with the Hastings Golden Age Entertainers.

Dwight Catlett was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Dorothy, second wife, Margaret and two brothers, Richard & Stewart.

Gwendolyn E. 'Gwen' Rose

Gwendolyn E. 'Gwen' Rose, 86, of 1235 N. Laird Avenue #106, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at her home.

Memorial service will be Saturday, June 30, 2001; 1:30 P.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Barry Rempp officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date.

Gwendolyn E. ‘Gwen' Rose was born icon April 5, 1915 in Beloit, Kansas to Allen & Ethel (Campbell) Evans. She graduated from Glen Elder High School, Glen Elder, Kansas in 1932. In 1935, she married Forrest W. Rose and he preceded her in death in 1994. They moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1957. She was a homemaker and a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Lochland Country Club and Elks.

Gwendolyn E. ‘Gwen' Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Forrest, son; Jon and a brother; Edwin Evans.

Terry R. Hohnstein

Former Hastings resident, Terry R. Hohnstein, 40, of Omaha, Nebraska died Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at Immanuel Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday, June 30, 2001; 10:30 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Matt Nieman officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Terry R. Hohnstein was born icon July 16, 1960 in Hastings, Nebraska to Ivan and Druella (Rose) Hohnstein. He graduated from Hastings High School and attended Central Community College. He was currently the owner of Cameralarm security systems in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a former employee of Hastings Utilities. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Terry R. Hohnstein was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Samuel LeRoy Borrell

Samuel LeRoy Borrell, 81, of 918 West 10th St died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Wednesday, June 27, 2001; 10:30 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Carl Rehwaldt officiating. Burial will be in Juniata Cemetery, Juniata, Nebraska.

Samuel LeRoy Borrell was born icon October 15, 1919 in LeRoy, Nebraska to Charles Samuel & Anna May (Koler) Borrell. He married Grethel Janssen in 1939 and they were later divorced. He served in the United States Army from May 20, 1944 to December 27, 1945. On February 11, 1950, he married Bonnie L. Hurd in Twin Falls, Idaho. He worked at Dutton Lainson Manufacturing for 15 years as a welder and a weld inspector, retiring in1982. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.

Samuel LeRoy Borrell was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara Janssen and 3 grandchildren.
