Ivan E. Hohnstein, 81, of 1005 Hewett, died Thursday, April 4, 2002 at his home.

Services will be Monday, April 8, 2002; 10:30 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Matt Nieman & Dr. Carl W. Utley officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Ivan E. Hohnstein was born icon December 5, 1920 in Harvard, Nebraska to George L. & Viola (Carriker) Hohnstein. He graduated from Harvard High School and served in the United States Army during WWII from September 2, 1942 to October 12, 1945. On March 13, 1946, he married Druella Rose. He was a salesman for Gambles and Tempo. He was a life long area resident and a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Ivan E. Hohnstein was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Terry.

Lee Blocker, 79, of 602 Shoreside Cove, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Thursday, June 6, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Reverend Neil Vik officiating. Burial will be Thursday, June 6, 2002; 2:00 P.M. at Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Lee Blocker was born icon May 20, 1923 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Roy & Ida (Patterson) Blocker. He graduated from Havelock High School and University of Nebraska both in Lincoln, Nebraska. He married Darlene ‘Dee’ Carlson on April 23, 1950 and she preceded him in death in 1978. He served in the United States Army during WWII from 1943-1945. He was the manager of Public Utilities in Beatrice, Nebraska and Lincoln, Nebraska before coming to Hastings, Nebraska as Public Utilities manager in1975, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Beatrice Lodge #26, A.F & A.M., York Rite, Shrine Sesostris Temple in Lincoln, American Legion, IEEE and AWA.

Lee Blocker was preceded in death by parents and wife, Darlene.

Betty Alice Anderson, 69, of 20 Village Drive, Hastings, Nebraska, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at her home.

Services will be Wednesday, June 5, 2002; 10:30 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Betty Alice Anderson was born icon October 16, 1932 in Hastings, Nebraska to Harry D.& Iva L. Kazebeer. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1950 and married Lafe Anderson on August 20, 1950. She was member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and P.E.O. Chapter G. She was a life long Hastings resident.

Betty Alice Anderson was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Robert Kazebeer, 2 grandchildren, Kasey Christopher Behrmann & David Austin Behrmann.

Survivors include,

Ruby E. Herrington

Hastings resident, Ruby E. Herrington, 69, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at her home. That same day, she and her husband, Monty celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Memorial service will be Tuesday, June 4, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska with Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating. Additional services will be Friday, June 7, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at Sutton & Son Funeral Home, Paris, Illinois with Pastor David Laborde officiating. Burial will be in Embarrass Cemetery in Redmon, Illinois.

Ruby E. Herrington was born icon November 5, 1932 in Marion, Kentucky to Courtney & Pauline (Rutherford) Garriott. She grew up in Edgar County, Illinois and graduated from Redmon High School, Redmon, Illinois. She married her high school sweetheart, Monty Herrington on June 1, 1952. She was employed at U.O. Colson Company in Paris, Illinois. Ruby was an extremely devoted wife, mother and grandmother, encouraging her family through many relocation transitions, due to her husband’s career growth and success. Ruby’s skills in organization and attention to detail made otherwise difficult situations very manageable. She was a homemaker and a member of Berean Bible Church where she was an active prayer chain participant. Throughout her life, Ruby was involved in numerous church and youth activities.

Ruby E. Herrington was preceded in death by her parents.

Eleanor J. Nejezchleb Sapp

Eleanor J. Nejezchleb Sapp, 75, of 1706 W. 8th, Hastings, Nebraska, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 4, 2002; 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. No visitation or viewing.

Eleanor J. Sapp was born icon May 24, 1927 in Lawrence, Nebraska to Frank & Mary (Kvasnica) Svoboda. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1945 and married Norbert Nejezchleb on July 17, 1945. They farmed in the Glenvil area until his death on March 14, 1986. She married Keith L. Sapp on July 26, 1991 and moved from Glenvil, Nebraska to Hastings, Nebraska. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and South Central Nebraska Czech Society. She had been active in the Glenvil Legion Auxiliary, bowling and enjoyed going to garage sales. During her retirement years, she had many fun part-time jobs.

Eleanor J. Sapp was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband, Norbert Nejezchleb, and infant son, Wayne and a sister Erma Judy.

Norma R. Franklin, 74, of Village Terrace, Good Samaritan Village, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Wednesday, June 5, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at Second Presbyterian Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Jay Snell officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Norma R. Franklin was born icon July 29, 1927, in Hastings, Nebraska to Orlie & Maude (Armstrong) Dykeman. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1947 and married Elvin E. Franklin on June 15, 1956. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1979. She was a nurses aide at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Mary Lanning Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary and volunteered at Good Samaritan Village.

Norma R. Franklin was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elvin, 2 sisters, 1 grandson and a step son.

Donald 'Don' W. Adams, Sr.

Donald ‘Don’ W. Adams, 66, of 1809 W. 4th Street, Hastings, Nebraska, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at his home.

Services will be Wednesday, June 5, 2002; 2:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Father Val Bartek officiating. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Trumbull, Nebraska at a later date.

Donald ‘Don’ W. Adams was born icon October 12, 1935 in Bazine, Kansas to Fred & Esther (Steiben) Adams. He moved with his family to Great Bend, Kansas in 1940 and attended Great Bend public schools from 1940-1949. He then moved to Hastings, Nebraska and attended Hastings High School from 1949-1951. He married Loretta Campbell on November 29, 1952 and they later divorced. He served in the United States Army from February 1954 until March 1957. He was in Korea from September 1954 until January 1, 1956. He married Barbara Parsons on January 25, 1956 and moved to Leavenworth, Kansas and returned to Hastings, Nebraska in March 1957. He worked at Duttons Warehouse and Navy Ammunition Depot. In 1962, he moved to McPherson, Kansas and returned to Hastings, Nebraska in 1964. He worked for Trumbull Coop from 1964-1972. He moved to rural Giltner, Nebraska in 1972 and returned to Hastings in 1988. On December 22, 1988, he married Loretta (Campbell) Burnham. He was a truck driver for Johnson’s Concrete form 1988 until his retirement in 2000. He was a life member of the V.F.W.

Hastings resident, Arthur G. Schroer, 93, of 3309 W. 7th St., died June 3, 2002 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Rosary service will be Wednesday, June 5, 2002; 8:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be Thursday, June 6, 2002; 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be Thursday, June 6, 2002; 2:00 P.M. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lawrence, Nebraska.

Arthur G. Schroer was born icon February 5, 1909 in Nuckolls County, Nebraska near Mt. Clare, Nebraska to Herman & Anne (Gilsdorf) Schroer. On June 1, 1936, he married Lillian Kotinek at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence, Nebraska. They farmed in the Spring Ranch area until moving to Hastings, Nebraska in 1966. He was then employed at the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center near Hastings until his retirement. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the Men’s Club and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Arthur G. Schroer was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson 2 great granddaughters, 2 brothers and a sister.

Russell G. Patten, 48, of 419 S. Boston, died Thursday, June 6, 2002 at his home.

Services will be Saturday, June 8, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with Pastor John L. Ross officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Russell G. Patten was born icon January 25, 1954 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Ralph & Monica (Schmaedecke) Patten. He graduated from St. Albert The Great High School, Council Bluffs, Iowa and married Donna Andersen in Council Bluffs, Iowa on May 8, 1977. He worked for 17 years at Uniservice before his current employment with Hatten Electric, both in Hastings, Nebraska. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, NRCA Car Club, the Setters & Pointers bowling league and was active with Boy Scout Troop #35 as a former Scout Master and assistant Scout Master.
